Nurse Redheart yawned. Slowly, she began to slump like a rag doll, thrown down on a child's bedroom floor. She then immediately erected her spine and opened her light blue eyes as wide as she could. She couldn't afford to fall asleep on the job. She was a nurse, after all, and there was no way she'd let a patient die because she wasn't awake to help them. She forced a grin and barely choked out a "hello" to Rarity, who was visiting her sick grandmother every Sunday. Redheart had barely gotten any sleep last night. She attended a party with her boyfriend, which lasted until around 1 o'clock in the morning. Even more so, he broke up with her afterwards, and she stayed awake crying the whole night.
She knew she couldn't let this eat her up, though. She told herself he wasn't worth it and continued on with her life. This didn't make her any less tired, however.
Suddenly, somepony burst through the door. Tears were carving into her cheeks, and screams were shooting out of her wide-open mouth. "NURSE! HELP ME! YOU MUST HELP ME! PLEASE!" the pony wailed in between sobs.
This immediately woke Redheart up. Not only because it sounded like a serious emergency, but because the pony was beautiful. She was an earth pony. She had a cream-colored coat and a rose for a cutie mark. Her mane looked so luscious, Redheart had to use all her will power to fight the urge to reach her hoof out and stroke it. It was blood-red with streaks of pastel red. This pony had the most stunning green eyes Redheart had ever seen. Redheart knew well it was rude to stare, but she couldn't help herself. She was almost entranced by the beauty of this pony.
"NURSE!!!!!!!!!!!" the pony wailed again.
Redheart blinked. "I'm sorry, dear. What's the problem?" she said weakly.
The pony slammed her hoof down on Redheart's desk. It was completely caked in blood. Green thorns were stabbed into it all around. Redheart sucked in a breath of disgust. "What happened?"
"I was picking flowers in my garden..." the pony started, still crying.
"And?"
"Then Rainbow Dash came flying over my head..."
"Uh-huh?"
"And she knocked me over and I fell and my hoof landed in a bed of roses!"
"Oh, that's awful! Let me take care of it." Redheart led her into the room in which minor operations were held. Slowly, she removed each thorn from the pony's hoof. The pony winced as each one was pulled out. Redheart then blotted the bloodstained hoof with a towel soaked in rubbing alcohol, causing the pony to whimper. Redheart shushed the pony, gently placing her hoof over the pony's mouth. Their eyes met for a moment. Redheart felt like she was flying. She then caught herself and quickly returned to work, embarrassed. She wrapped a bandage around the pony's hoof. "It's alright. Your hoof is fine now." Redheart smiled.
"Thank you so much," the pony exclaimed, tossing her arms around Redheart's neck and planting a kiss on Redheart's cheek. Redheart pulled the pony away and held her by the shoulders, gazing once more into those amazing green eyes. She felt heat rising in her cheeks and prayed to Celestia she wasn't blushing. She then saw a pink color bloom on the pony's formerly cream-colored face, and no longer cared if she was blushing or not.
"Sorry," this angel-of-a-pony whispered sheepishly, her gaze darting to the floor.
"It's fine," Redheart whispered back.
They separated, much to Redheart's dismay. The pony coughed and stuck out her hoof. "Where are my manners? I'm Rose."
"Nurse Redheart." Redheart shook it. "You can just call me Redheart though."
Rose giggled. "How can I repay you for your help?"
Redheart blushed again. "You don't need to! I've dealt with MUCH more serious things than this, trust me."
"NO." Rose threw her arm around Redheart and pulled her in closer. "I want to."
"Oh... okay." Redheart had no control over the grin that smeared over her face.
"Let me take you somewhere!" Rose lifted her arm from Redheart's back, but left it twisted around Redheart's front leg. "Do you like tea?"
Redheart was officially in love. "I love tea!"
"I'll take you to this great tea shop, then. When does your shift end?"
"Twelve o'clock in the afternoon."
"Alright, see you then." Rose began to walk away, but abruptly stopped. "Redheart."
"Rose."
Rose continued out the hospital. All Redheart did was smile like crazy and, in her mind, pray to Celestia that Rose was bisexual as well.
