How it All Began

Octavia was backstage, preparing for our first show. We were both fillies and had volunteered to play in our favorite band The Hoover's place when their tour carriage broke down in Manehattan. She was polishing her cello and went to the closet to get more polishing liquid, when she bumped into me. I blew the grey and pink bangs out of my face, and smiled. My rosy coat made me easy to tell apart from my sister, even if we didn't have our marks yet. A tall, buff pony trotted backstage. He was light blue, had a green flat mane, and green eyes. His cutie mark was a camera.

"You two foals are on in five minutes. You sure you know their hit song?" His voice was raspy.

"Yes, Sir. Don't worry, the concert will be great. My sister has the best singing voice in town!" My sister grinned.

"Oh, really? We'll see then. Get ready to play." He walked off, smirking. The curtains opened and we started the show. Octavia had started attempting to play an upbeat jazzy tune with a touch of pop with her cello. I began to sing.

"Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah

I tried and tried again, I fell timeless times

I know I'll never fail

I'll never give up, I'll never give up

I will quit when I reach the end (repeat after "yeah!")

I can win in the end, if it could it'd make time bend

I can win in the end, if it could it'd make time bend (times 2)

Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah

I won't quit until it's over, I won't quit until it's over

You can't make me quit, YEAH!

Song ends

And that's when it happened. Right there on stage, in the middle of the song, we got our cutie marks. Every pony stomped with their hooves and cheered for us, and we smiled as we continued the lyrics again, and finished. Later after the show, we ran backstage to look at each other's marks. Mine was a bunch of musical notes, where the bottoms were hearts. Octavia's was a simple purple note that looked similar to one of mine. We squealed with glee and clapped our hooves together. Ponies would smile at us and make requests. We always refused them, but thanked them. I even got an offer to be sponsored by Photo Finish! We were so close back then. But years after, we would see each other less and less, and slowly drift apart.
