Chapter 1
Into The Sky
The way the day began was like any typical monday morning that most people in the world would usually hate. Slept in late, had to drink from a reheated pot of old coffee and try to rush out the door half awake. That was almost completely the case, except for the last part for one particular girl who was now on her summer vacation.
“Woo Hoo!!! Freedom at last!” She cried out in her small apartment as she laid down on the couch. “Man, I’m so glad that I am finally on vacation…” That’s when reality hit her ten seconds later. “Wait… what the hell am I going to do during vacation anyways?”
“You could always get a summer job?” Her roommate suggested as she turned to face her.
“Ugh, why do you have to mention work? Work and Summer are two things that are scientifically proven not to work together.” The girl then mumbled to herself on the couch as her roommate sighed a little.
“Katie, you can’t just expect to sit on your ass all day and think that will pay the rent. Plus the check I get for my disability isn’t going to help that much with paying the rent this time.”
Katie herself groaned a little, looking back at her friend. “Then how do you think we are going to be able to make some decent money without having to go to the dark side if you know what I mean.”
“I said get a job… but then again getting a job is hard as hell seeing how you’re still in school for two more years. And I’m pretty much a veteran with little to no… social skills to some degree.” Katie personally agreed with that statement, but it was when she noticed an advertisement on TV that it caught her attention. It was for a convention being held in downtown, but most importantly was the costume contest being held there. Grand prize winner was to receive ten thousand dollars along with a bunch of stuff that were on her personal wish list, but never got the chance to buy since most of the money she had needed to go to rent first.
“Hey, you think I can do something like that?” She asked. “I mean, I might not exactly win the grand prize, but they still have some decent cash for the runner ups.”
“That depends, how much money does the runner up get?” Paula asked.
“Five thousand I believe.” Katie replied, taking a moment to go to her closet and open it up. “Hey, do you think my Kat Shafter Halloween Costume could work here? I mean, I would need a new hairband, but it still is in perfect condition.”
“With that money we can pay rent for the next two to three years at best. Alright, let’s do it!” The next week was spent preparing for the competition as Katie had to order a new hairband for her outfit through Amazon and her friend Paula had to find a decent costume to match Katie’s. Even though they weren’t exactly in a team based competition, it felt like they had to work together in order to pull something like this off. All for the chance of being rent free for the next three years. Talk about pressure.
“Man this outfit is really uncomfortable.” Katie said as she stretched the seam of her outfit. “How can anyone in a video game or in real life wear something like this?”
“You asking me?” Paula said as she folded her arms, handing the new hairband her friend needed to her before chewing on an apple. “I think that it takes time to adjust. Besides, look at what I’m wearing. It took me a hell of a lot of time in order to get the sleeves for this thing right.”
“Well, whatever it is, let’s go kick some ass out there… figuratively of course.” Katie chuckled, watching her friend roll her eyes.
“Yeah we don’t want a repeat of what happened two months ago.” Her friend replied as the two of them then walked into the huge hallway that was in the hotel the event was being held at. “Besides, who do you think saw us walk in?”
“Probably Security, the bellhop, the ladies at the front desk, hotel staff… oh and the EIB.”
“EIB?”
“Everyone in the building.” Katie clarified as she walked on ahead before a swarm of attendees began to take pictures. “See what I mean?”
“Let’s just get this over with so we can change out of these clothes.” Paula told her with a groan as the two of them made their way across the hotel lobby. Along the way, the two of them came across some interesting figures from all kinds of shows, games and comic books. Some that even got them thinking that they would be up against some serious competition. Later though, during the actual event, everyone went up at different times as they took turns. This lasted about an hour and when the judges first prepared to call out names, the two of them soon heard a little bit of commotion coming from the lobby.
“Paula? What the hell is all the commotion about?” Katie asked as they waited for the results from the judges.
“Something about two people missing during the convention. After we win this, we better get out of here before something bad happens. I do not want your mom to lecture me about something bad happening to you.”
“Yeah yeah, I get it,” Katie groaned. What they heard next though, surprised both of them.
“First place goes to… Kat and Raven from Gravity Rush! Congratulations!!” Katie looked at Paula in disbelief, before the both of them soon came out and were met with the praise of thousands of attendees.
“Holy shit, we won!?”
“How the hell is that even possible!?”
“Congratulations, Ladies,” One of the judges that looked like the secret shop Merchant in DOTA 2 congratulated them. “Here are your rewards. Use them wisely.” He smiled, giving them gift bags with the prizes inside and each of them a check for ten thousand dollars. With it, he soon walked off the stage and disappeared into the crowd below.
“Let’s get out of here before we’re slammed by reporters and fanboys.” Katie motioned towards the door, waiting on Paula. Only for her friend to bust the door open, close it, and block it with a chair.
“This is why I don’t go to stuff like this. Guys think just because you’re wearing a kinky outfit, that you’ll have sex or go out with them.”
“You make a great point…” Katie said, moving for a moment before slowing down. “Hey… is it just me or does it feel like you’re getting a migraine?”
“A little bit yeah. Might be because we haven’t eaten anything in the past few hours or so.” Her friend replied. However, both of them didn’t get the chance to move as they felt weak at the knees and soon passed out, face first onto the floor.
Some time Later
Ever had that moment when you felt like you were somehow falling while you were trying to get some sleep? Well, that scenario was Katie in a nutshell as the air wooshed past her head and she felt her body crash through some clouds. All while she was just barely waking up from her headache.
“YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME!!!” Katie yelled as she fully awoken from her slumber, and began to flail around in the air and try to fly. It was only when she was bare inches away from a floating rock in the sky that she felt herself slow down and stop. How she did it though… was beyond her understanding. “What the. Where the hell am I? Hello! Is anyone here!?”
No response… at least, not yet anyways. All she say around her was a chain of floating islands with an endless sea of clouds.
“Okay, I’m in the middle of nowhere with little to no knowledge of where Paula is. And I’m stuck on a cloud in the sky filled with floating islands...well fuck.” It was then though that she overheard the sound of a few voices talking amongst themselves before looking to see who or what it was.
It was a few ponies. Wearing some armor as a bunch of male guards were talking to a female that had a night sky like mane and a similar dress to boot. “The reports said that the loud disturbance was from this island. You think maybe we messed up on the search?”
“Just spread out and continue looking. Whoever it is, it’s somepony that needs some much needed help and not all species could easily fly like Pegasi or Unicorns with a cloudwalking spell.” One of the other guards said. “Just look out for those strange creatures and try to stay clear of any you find.”
“And this place is inhabited by talking bipedal ponies… I am hoping this is just a dream or something because of the lack of food I haven’t eaten.” It was then that she felt her stomach rumble as the shifter noticed that the sound had caught their attention.
“What was that?”
“Ah crapbaskets!” Katie mumbled as she hid behind a pillar of clouds. She was trying to do her best to not cause any trouble, but that was unlikely given the next thing that she heard.
“Captain! It’s one of those monsters from the last island! They’re attacking some of the squad!!” One of the guards roared as Katie then spot what was attacking them and silently cursed to herself.
“And now we have navi in this place? What kind of world is this?”
“Stop that thing from advancing further!! For Equestria!!!” One of the guards yelled, unsheathing a sword as he tried to fight against the navi that had already defeated a few of the other members of his batallion. “Protect Princess Luna at all costs!!”
“Yes sir!!” Another guard yelled, preparing a spear to throw at the navi.
“I need to get the hell out of her before I get myself killed.” Katie said as she tried to think of a escape plan. “But how the hell am I supposed to fly out of here? Didn’t the main character in the game had that cat to help her?”
That was when she felt a low shiver up one of her legs as she looked down. “You called, my dear?”
“Holy crap!” Katie yelled as she fell on her bottom from the sudden touch. “Wait, you’re Dusty aren’t you?”
“That I am… and those ponies are in need of your help,” He said, Hopping up to Katie’s shoulder. “And to help them, you need to know your powers.”
“What can I do? I’m just a normal girl with little fighting skills.”
“That is where you are wrong… You are a shifter. You can bend gravity to your own will. You just need guidance… Which is why I am here.” The cat meowed to her.
“Oh sure I can, and I’m the pope's daughter. If I can control gravity, then show me proof of that?”
“How do you think you slowed your descent earlier?” Dusty replied. “You just need to focus your powers and control them. Don’t worry, I’ll be here to help.” He said as he enters inside of the gravity shifter. “I’ll give you a little demo of what you can do to those Navis.” Katie felt a surge of power flowing through her as her body began to glow red along with cosmic cat ears and tail appearing as well.
“W-What the? What is this power I’m feeling?”
“The power to fight.” Dusty said as he took control of Katie’s body. “Now let me show you your true strength.”
“Why do I get the feeling this won’t end well for me.”
“That only depends on you. I’ll be guiding you. All you need to do is attack.” She heard him say as Katie felt her body begin to float off of the ground.
“So all I need to do is just punch them?”
“Punch, kick. Give them hell. We’re starting… now.” With it, Katie felt her body charge forth at the navi, moving upward to dodge an incoming attack and allowing her to attack it’s exposed head.
“Huh, and here I thought their orb thing were made of glass.”
“Don’t get cocky. It’ll take a lot more than a few strikes to stop this one.” Dusty warned as the navi lashed out at her. If it weren’t for the Astral cat moving her at the last second, Katie’s head would’ve been cut clean off. But now, she was on the opposite side of the monster as the ponies nearby just stared at her in awe, wonder and also confusion.
“Question, can you make me have a claw or something?”
“You mean spiraling claws?”
“Well it’s not a skill, more like something that a cat has seeing how I got the ears and tail. ”
“I understand, but as of now, you are still getting used to your abilities. If you strain yourself too much, you will pass out from doing so.” Dusty advised her.
“Fair point.” Katie said as she kicked a Nevi into another Nevi, causing the orb on it’s body to shatter and disappear.
“You got two more behind you.” The cat told her, allowing Katie to react just in time as she turned around to roundhouse kick the first one that came too close.
“It just like playing god hand...only with navi, less gay men, and sexual innuendo jokes.”
“Ha ha… Good work on the Nevi… you might want to be prepared though. The locals really want to thank you for your help.”
“You sure they’re not gonna attack me or something?” Katie asked as she notice the ponies pointing spears at her. “Called it.”
“Stand down men… We must thank this one for saving our lives,” The pony with the starry mane addressed her as the guards obeyed. “I am Princess Luna. Diarch of the night. What is your name, young one?” She then asked.
“Katie….Graviton.”
“Seriously? That last name isn’t even real.”
“Ms. Katie. We would like to thank you for bravely risking your life against those vile creatures. You seem… new to the area, so I would like to offer you a meal and the chance for you to answer some questions that might be on your mind.” Luna offered for her.
“Well seeing how you’re offering me free food. Alright I’ll come with you, maybe this place might have some meat or something similar to that.”
“I believe we can… accommodate such tastes.” She replied, having Katie follow her to a nearby chariot as the remaining guards that were alive began to regroup.
“Sweet! Free food for once in my life and I don’t have to pay for it!” Luna herself chuckled a little as she saw the young girl's enthusiasm while the chariot took off. “So what was up with you and your soldiers fighting the Nevi’s?”
“Is that what they are called?” Luna asked. “We don’t know much of them. But we know that they have been attacking ponykind for a while.”
“Pretty much that’s what they’re called, how long have they been attacking you guys?”
“Around six months. We’ve been taking extra precautions when it comes to trade amongst ponykind on the islands, but we know that the Nevi have been the causing all the destruction underneath the clouds.”
“Wait, underneath the clouds?”
“We used to live on the continent of Equestria below the clouds. But because of those creatures, sections of land have now become floating islands and the once beautiful land that we called home has become nothing but a wasteland.” The Lunar Alicorn replied to Katie’s question. “If it weren’t for my sister and I, ponykind would’ve suffered great losses.”
“Geez, talk about hell on earth. Have you ever tried to figure out a way to get rid of the Nevis?”
“We’ve tried many methods, but they always seem to return in greater force. But now with you… we might now have some hope on how to fight back against them.”
“Okay…..wait what?”
“It was the first time that we’ve seen a Nevi completely destroyed without it regenerating.” The Princess sighed. “All other times were… unsuccessful.”
Flashback
“Okay, everyone! Almost all the citizens have made it through the gate!” The commander that was with the soldiers firing cannons at the enemy. “Keep laying a suppressing barrage until everyone is through! Then we’ll be home free-.”
Around then, a giant Nevi crashed onto the battlefield, it’s eyes glaring towards them.
“Wha-? No seriously guys, what the actual hell is that!?!” The Commander shouted as it began to charge at them. “Whatever it is, SHOOT IT!!! SHOOT IT, SHOOT IT, SHOOT IT!!!” However, despite all attempts to slow or stop the colossal Nevi, all cannonfire was unsuccessful as it was charging closer towards them.
“Oh SHIT!!!!!” They all screamed, just as it bashed through the gate and let out a plume of smoke. The only thing that most ponies remember is hearing a smart aleck shout at the monster as they we’re escaping.
“Hey, FUCK THAT GUY!!”
Back to the Present
“.....I get the feeling I’m gonna be doing most of the work when it comes to the Nevis huh?”
“Right now, we should focus on getting somewhere safe. We can worry about the Nevi once we’re out of danger.” The Princess replied to her.
“So where do the ponies live now seeing how the ground is not safe for them to live on. I know they live in the clouds but where in the cloud?”
“Some massive islands have towns and structures on them since they used to be either mountains down below or sections of land. Ponyville, a town on one of these islands, is not far from Cloudsdale, home of the Pegasi. We should be there in ten minutes or so, give or take. Most of these floating islands are here because of the massive shift in gravity that came with the Nevi.”
“Well that answers two of my questions.” The shifter replied as she tried her best to make herself comfortable while the chariot was going through a darker section of clouds. Everything seemed to shake a little before hearing some loud booms. It was only during this instance that she saw Pegasi actually working in the clouds.
“So pegasi can move clouds around at will? Never thought I see something like that.”
“Pegasi are in control of the weather and also the clouds. Some known Pegasi can even control the storms. It’s different though for Unicorns and Earth Ponies,” Luna explained as they flew over another island where there were earth ponies tending to some crops. “Earth ponies are known for their strength and talents with the harvest while Unicorns are known for magic.”
“And what are you suppose to be? Not to sound rude or anything, just asking.”
Luna chuckled a little as she looked back at Katie. “I’m an Alicorn. Those in Royalty who have ascended to represent all three of the pony races. There are only a rare number of them. Specifically, five. However, one of them is just a foal and another one is younger than my sister and niece. We bear a lot of responsibilities to help with everyday life as a whole.”
“And those are?”
“My sister raises the Sun and I raise the moon. My niece Cadence is the Princess of Love and Emotion while my sister’s student Twilight is the Princess of Friendship. It may sound strange, but they’re just as important as any one of us.”
“Forgive me if I sound specific, but I find it hard to believe you and your sister can move the sun and moon.” The Alicorn smirked a little as she checked her pocket watch before seeing the time and turning her attention to the sky.
“Sit back and watch. It is about time for Night to fall.” With it, Luna closed her eyes as her horn lit up. With an outstretched hand, the Sun had fully set and the moon had now risen in the sky, glowing brightly as the light of the moon shined upon the small caravan. “Now, do you believe?”
“I stand corrected. Now I believe you about the whole sun and moon thing.” The Alicorn smiled as the small group soon touched down upon the biggest island that there was and soon departed from the station.
“Well now… Welcome to Canterlot. My home and the home for tens of thousands of other survivors here. I shall take you to my sister… if you are ready of course.”
“Y-Yeah let’s go.” She said, looking around her and just trying to get an understanding of where she was. “God, this is going to take some time to getting used too. ”

Start of a Hero
(Canterlot Castle)
“If you don’t mind me asking Katie, but what are you?” Luna asked as she and the shifter made their way down the hallway of the castle. “Not to sound rude or anything, but I’ve never seen a creature like you before.”
“I’m a human.”
“Hooman? We have never heard of your kind before.”
“It’s pronounced human not hooman.” Katie said as she giggled at the way Luna pronounced the name.
“Are all ho, I mean humans like you have cat like ears and tails?”
“I’m a special case then most humans. So how long before we meet your sister?”
“Not long, she should be finishing up with today’s meeting involving the creatures you call the Nevis.”
As the two made their way down the hall, Katie notice some of the ponies she was passing were staring at her in curiosity, because of the ears and tail she has on, or in disgust. “Great, as if high school wasn’t bad enough.”
“Well you can’t blame them for reacting the way they are towards you,” Dusty said. “You are something that never been seen in this world before. Not to mention that you kinda save some of them from the Nevis and made it look easy.”
“Gee, that makes me feel so much better.”
“Give them time and I’m sure they’ll warm up to you...well if their pride would let them.”
“I’ll worry about that later. Right now let’s just see if this Princess Celestia chick can help us look for Paula and a way home.”
“You’re not gonna help them with the Nevi problem?”
“I will, but first I need to figure out where my roommate is before something bad happens.”
“We’ll you’ll have to put that on hold, because we’re here.” Katie’s mental conversation was cut short as she doors leading to the throne room open up. The shifter’s eyes widen as she gazed upon the marvel of how majestic and clean the throne room was. “Man talk about royalty to the max. This place would put any other throne room to shame back home.”
“Well take that as compliment Ms. Katie.” Luna giggle as she lead the shifter to the sun princess.
“And that is why we should capture on of those creatures and create a weapon out of them.” Said a bald earth pony wearing a white suit with a red tie. “We been fighting these things for the past six months, and we’ve lost to many ponies to them.”
“As much as I want to study them to see how we can defeat them Iron Clad, but we can’t make a weapon out of them to defeat them. Using something that we have little to no knowledge of, would be like flying into a storm without figuring out how powerful the storm is.” Celestia said. “I’m sorry but your request is denied.”
“But how are we supposed to defend of what remains of Canterlot? We already lost Ponyville, Manehatten, Appaloosa, and Fillydelphia. How many more homes are you will to let those monsters take before you come to reason?”
“Unless you can think of a way that doesn’t involve the use of those creatures, then your request is still denied until-”
“Sister,” Luna said interrupting the conversation Celestia was having with Iron Clad. “We believe we might have someone that can help us with the Nevi situation.” She said pointing a finger at the gravity shifter, who waved awkwardly at the crowd of ponies in the throne room.”
“Sister, who or what is this creature you’re standing next to?”
“Her name is Katie Graviton, and she’s our secret weapons against the Nevis.”
Celestia raised a brow as she looked at Katie suspiciously. “Forgive me if I’m a bit suspicious Luna, but what makes you think this...um.”
“Human.”
“Okay, how can this human help us in dealing with these….Nevis?”
“We have seen her take down one of them without it regenerating.” Luna answered which caused the ponies in the room to either gasp in amazement or whisper to each other.
“You can’t be serious? With all due respect Princess Luna, but do you expect us to believe this creature is able to defeat those monster that took over Equestria?” IronClad said as he walked over to Katie. “I mean look at it. It looked like a hairless ape had sex with a cat to produce this.”
“I resent that remark you jackass.” Katie said glaring at the ocean colored pony.
“What did you call me?”
“I called you a jackass, or did you have your head far up your ass to hear me?”
“Why you little-.”
“Enough, both of you.” Celestia said as she glanced at Katie. “Ms. Katie, is it true that you can defeat these creatures that you call the Nevis?”
“I don’t like to brag, but I did save your sister and a few of her soldiers from them. Heck, you can even asked her soldiers themselves and they’ll tell you the truth…I hope.”
“Hm…I would like to have a word with my sister please. Every pony besides Katie is excuse from the throne room until the next meeting.” Celestia said as the group of ponies including Iron Clad, who bumped pass Katie on the way out of the room.
“Jackass.”
“Be nice Katie.”
“But he started it. Not to mention that he insulted us. You can’t tell me that you wanted to punch him on the face for that.”
“Be that as it may, right now you’re in no position to even try something like that. Build your reputation up with the citizens and Princess Celestia first, then you might be able to get away with doing something like to him.”
“.....Fine, but if he goes too far in his insults or something, I will punch him in the face regardless of the outcome.” Katie was brought out her mental conversation as she notice Celestia walking up to her, and began to walk around and examine the shifter. “Um…is something wrong?”
“My sister says that you might know what these Nevis are. Pray tell how is it that you happen to be there at the same time my sister and her soldiers were being attacked?”
“I just happen to be there at the right time I guess?”
“How do I know you’re not in league with the Navis? You being able to beat them like they were nothing to you, but hard for a normal guard to beat.”
“Look if I was in league with the Nevi, then I would’ve have them appear out of nowhere. Not to mention they were attacking me as well, or did you ignore that part from what your sister told you?”
“Be that as it may I still find it hard to believe you’re telling the truth. But seeing how I trust my sister more than you, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.” Celestia said as she appeared in front of Katie. “If you can prove to me that you can be trusted in helping us save Equestria, then I’ll be willing to trust you. But should you cause trouble in Canterlot while you stay here, then you will be place in the dungeon or will be kicked out of Canterlot for good. Do I make myself clear Ms. Graviton?”
“Crystal clear.” Katie said swallowing the lump she had in her throat.
“Good, now if you’ll excuse me I must take care of some important matters involve Canterlot.” With a glow from her horn, Celestia teleported out of the throne room. Leaving a confused Shifter and the princess of the night.
“Well that could’ve gone better.”
“We’re sorry for how our sister is acting. With everything that’s been going and Equestria’s surviving cities disappearing on us in the past six months. You have to understand the situation she’s dealing with.”
“What do you mean by cities disappearing?”
“A while back before you came here. Ponyville, Manehatten, Appaloosa, and Fillydelphia. The four surviving cities from the war with the Nevis slowly disappeared in thin air. We don’t know what happen or how it happen, but they’ve been missing along with the ponies in the cities.”
“Maybe I can do something about it?”
“As much as I admire your willing to help us, but I doubt you can bring them back. For now let’s just focus on helping out Canterlot for the time being.”
“Fair point….what do I do to help out?”
“Why don’t you have a look around Canterlot? I’m sure you can help somepony out with delivering something, or just have a look around. Feel free to look for a place to make your home.” Luna said as she moved passed Katie. “If you’ll excuse me, I have to prepare myself for night court.”
(Streets of Canterlot)
“Well that could’ve gone better.” said Katie as she walked down the street of Canterlot.
“I don’t know I think that went quite well actually. Added bonus, Luna gave us some bits to buy food with.” said Dusty as Katie looked over the gold coin.
“Hard to believe that the currency is gold coins. If I was back home with these, I would be semi rich until I run out.”
“Let’s not go crazy and spend your money on pointless things. We need to find a place to live in until we can get started.”
“Fine, let’s just look for-.” Before the duo could say or do anything, there was a loud siren sound echoing throughout the city of Canterlot. “What the hell is that?”
[All ponies evacuate the area. A Gravity Storm has appeared in Canterlot. Please evacuate the area to the safe zone located near the hospital.]
“Well that answer my question.” Katie said as she notice the debri around her starting to fly up into a weird looking gravitational hole in the air above her.
“We better find a safe place to hide until the storm is over.”
“Katie above you!” Dusty ordered as the shifter looked up. Her eyes widen in shock as she saw an orange pegasus with magenta color mane. To what she could tell the pegasus was wear in black long sleeve shirt, blue cargo pants, and had a bendable scooter strapped around her back.
“What the hell is that kid doing up there!?”
“We’ll figure it out later.” Katie’s body turn red as she felt herself flying into the air. “Get to the kid before she gets sucked into the gravity storm.”
“Right.” Without a second thought, the gravity shifter flew up into the air as she headed towards the orange pegasus while dodging oncoming debri. “Dammit there’s too much debri in the air. Isn’t there a way to get to her easier?”
“Bottom right. Head over there then fly up. You might be able to get to here quicker that way.” Dusty suggested as Katie did just that. Seconds later of dodging and moving past a few buildings, Katie appeared next to the pegasus as she grabbed her before the pipe she was hanging on snapped and flew off.
“Don’t worry kid, I got yeah.” Katie said as the pegasus opened her eyes to see the shifter holding her.
“W-Who are you?”
“Katie Graviton, Gravity Shifter to the rescue. What’s your name?”
“S-Scootaloo.” She said, only for her to notice a giant nevi like hand appearing behind Katie. “LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!” In a split second, Katie ducked out of the way of the giant hand as she flew down to try to avoid it from grabbing them.
“Dear god that was close.” Katie said as she landed on the side of a nearby building and ran down it while avoiding the hand again. “A little help would be nice Dusty.”
“Can’t do much if I can’t see the orb on the Nevi. You have to keep dodging until you can find a safe place to hide, or the storm is over.”
“Dammit this is such a pain in the ass.” Katie turned around to see if the hand was still following her. At first she thought they were in the clear, that is until the hand busted through a build head towards them. Katie jumped out of the way as she began to gravity slide on to the hand. Halfway through she notice an open manhole cover and came up with an idea. “Hope you don’t mind smelling like a sewer rat?”
“You can’t be serious about this idea-” Before he could finish, Katie jumped off the arm of the nevi as she flew down into the sewer as the manhole cover closed behind them. “Smart but disgusting idea.”
“I don’t see you coming up with quick getaway.” Katie said mentally as she turned her attention at the pegasus. “You okay?”
“That….was….AWESOME!!!” Scootaloo yelled as she jumped out of Katie’s grip. “The way you were dodging that giant hand, flying around falling debri, bouncing & running off the side of the building like it was something off of a movie! You’re so cool!”
“Looks like you got yourself a fan.” Dusty said as the shifter rolled her eyes.
“Glad I could help you Scootaloo. Hey, you wouldn’t happen to know a safe place to lay low until the storm is over do you?”
“You can head over to my place.” Scootaloo said as she motion Katie to follow her. “Come on, it’s this way.”
“Guess we’ll be staying the night here then.”
“Damn, and I was so hoping to get something to eat.” Katie stomach growled as she followed Scootaloo down into the sewer. Moments later after making a few turns and helping Scootaloo over a few holes. The gravity shifter and dusty arrived at what would appear to be Scootaloo’s home.
“Welcome to my home! Mind the mess. If I had know I would be inviting a guest here, then I would’ve cleaned up a bit.”
“Lovely place you have here.” Katie said as she took a seat next to the fireplace. “Remind me of my tree house when I was a little kid. Only with the fireplace and bed. Hey you wouldn’t happen to have anything to eat would you?”
“There’s mini refrigerator next to my bed. Hope you don’t mind eating meat? I mean I do have some fruit in the basket above it, but the frig is where I put either cooked or raw meat.” Katie quickly hopped off the bed as she quickly made her way to the frig. As she open the door, her eyes widen at the sight of cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and raw meat nicely packed and in ordered.
“Dear god I wish I had something like this.” Katie said as she took two cheeseburger out of the frig and hand one to Scootaloo. “I’m a bit surprise Scootaloo. I figure seeing how you’re a pony, your kind would be eating plant based diet.” She said as she took bit out of the burger.
“Some do but I’m the exception to that rule really. It took me a while to get used to it without having to throw up, but after a while I’ve gotten used to it. Thought it is frown upon in the pony community.” Scootaloo said looking off at the window.
“Aren’t there other beings that eat meat?”
“Well there are the griffons, but that’s pretty much understandable seeing how they’re griffons.”
“Are they the ones that you got the meat from?”
“Yeah, I got a sweet deal with the chef in Canterlot Castle. He give me some meat, and in return I get to taste test his food.”
“Sound like a sweet deal in my book. So do you have anyone looking after you?” Katie asked as she notice Scootaloo’s facial expression change. “Crap, I hit a touchy subject didn’t I?”
“N-No it find.” Scootaloo took another bit from her burger as she placed it next to her. “I’m pretty much an orphan. Never knew who or what my parents were or was, so I was pretty much in a orphange. It wasn’t so bad...for the most parts.”
“I get the feeling the orphanage you were in wasn’t a good one.”
“Once they discovered that I was secretly eating meat, trying to fly out without permission, and fighting with the kids in the orphanage….yeah it turned south real quick. So I decided to pack up my stuff, gather whatever money I could get from the orphanage and the kids while they were asleep, and live on my own.”
“Bold and risky move. How much did you take from them?”
“1,500 bits. I still have about 500 left, but most of it went to the stuff you see in this room.”
“You do know that stealing is wrong and I don’t allow it.” Katie said as she Scootaloo’s ears flatten. “But then again seeing how you said the orphanage was a crappy place in that short description, I guess I can let it slide as long as you don’t do anything bad. Agreed?”
“Agreed.” Scootaloo said as she tossed a paper ball into the fireplace.
“Question, what the hell were you doing outside hanging from that metal pipe from earlier?”
“I was…..trying to fly.”
“From such a high place? Not to sound harsh on you or anything, but that very stupid and dangerous. You could’ve gotten yourself killed or worst.”
“I know it’s not one of my best moments, but I’m just sick and tired of being made fun of because I can’t fly like most little fillies and colts. I even had some clouds under me just incase I was about to fall.”
“Still it was pretty dangerous to do something like that on your own. Look if you promise me that you won’t do something like that again, I’ll teach you how to fly okay?”
“You will?”
“You will?”
“Sure, it can’t be that hard to do. It’ll be like riding a bicycle...only with wings.” Katie said as Scootaloo lunged herself at the shifter and gave her a hug.
“Oh thank you so much. How can I ever repay you?”
“Y-You could let me go please…..I...can’t...breath.” Katie said as Scootaloo released her hug on the human and walked back to where she was sitting before.
“Sorry about that.” Scootaloo said as she looked at Katie’s ears and tail. “So do all you...um.”
“Human.”
“Never heard of your species before.”
“I can tell seeing how a pony named Iron Clad called me a hairless ape. So what was your question?”
“Oh right. So do all humans have cat ears and tails like you have?”
“No, but I’m the exception to that.” Katie said as she finished eating and let out a yawn. “Welp it’s getting late and I’m pretty much tired after save you from that Nevi.”
“Feel free to sleep on the beanbag. Sorry if it’s not much, but that’s the only spare bed I can offer until the storm is over. Tomorrow I’ll look for an extra bed around town. If anyone is willing to offer one up.” Scootaloo grabbed the bucket of water hanging from outside, and tossed the water into the fireplace to put it out. “See you in the morning Katie.” The teen pegasus said as she handed Katie a cover before going to be.
“Yeah, see you in the morning.” Katie said as she hopped laid on the beanbag and fell to sleep.

Saving a Captain
(Scootaloo’s Home, Morning)
“Looks like the gravity storm died off finally.” Katie said as she walked back in through the pipe hole in front of Scootaloo’s home. “Do storms like that happen a lot here in Canterlot?”
“On occasion. It just varies on how strong it is. Most of them are weak though.”
“So a giant arm appearing out of a storm is normal?”
“A giant arm? No.” The filly shook her head. “Honestly, that was the first time I’ve seen that.”
“Hm, I’ll have to ask Luna about what happen later. Right now it time to have a look around Canterlot. Seeing how I’m gonna be living here, might as well get to know where to find stuff I need.”
“Good idea… though you may want to proceed with caution. Not many ponies might take a liking to you since you’re… well… not a pony.” Scootaloo advised.
“Yeah, I kinda notice after what I experienced in Canterlot Castle yesterday.” Katie said as levitated Scootaloo close to herself. “Come on, you might as well give me a tour around this place. We might even be able to fit in some flying training if we do this quick.”
“That would be awesome!”
“Sounds like a plan. Okay, let’s go.”
“Do you even know how to teach a pegasus how to fly?”
“It can’t be as hard as riding a bike. I mean come on, how hard can it be?”
(Canterlot, Main Street)
“Man, this place is a wreck.” Katie said as the she and Scootaloo landed while eyeing the destroyed street and wrecked buildings.
“What would you honestly expect after a storm like that?”
“Well I know what happens after a storm. I just expected you had some way to repair the damage done to this place.”
“Unicorns can use magic and cast spells to repair the damage. Just one of the things that’s hard to find are doctors for those who are hurt in the storms. We always lose a couple after each attack by those creatures you call Nevi and medical supplies is very hard to come by.”
“Is there a way to get more medical supplies? Or at least find help outside the country or something?”
“Equestria wasn’t the only country affected by this, Katie.” Scootaloo told her. “From what I’ve heard, this is a tragedy on a global scale. Some nations, like the land dwellers in Yakistan, are no more because they were able to adapt to the changes in their surroundings. Unlike Griffons, dragons and so on. There are those that know healing spells, but spells can’t fix everything.” With it, Scootaloo turned her head to see a mother and daughter at a gravestone, setting a bouquet of flowers before they moved on. “Poor Dinky… She lost her sister Amethyst in the last attack three weeks ago… I know what it’s like to feel that way… Somehow… we all lost something because of what’s been happening.”
“Guess I’ll have to add that to list of things to do afterwards.” Katie said as she began to walk down the street with Scootaloo. “Did you lose someone as well besides your parents?”
It took Scootaloo a few moments, but soon, she was able to speak. “My best friend, Rumble. It was when the first wave of Nevi hit. I was going to ask if he wanted to be my coltfriend, but when the ground below our feet began to break and the buildings around us came crashing down, he sacrificed his own life to save mine… Since then, I’ve gotten to know his older brother, Thunderlane… But somehow… I think he blames me for his little brother’s death.”
“What happened wasn’t your fault.”
“I know that… But… If only I was able to fly then… then he wouldn’t have to go back for me… we would both be alive… Now? I can’t even soar a few inches off of the ground before coming back down and it just makes me think of how useless I am.”
“Listen to me kid.” Katie said as she kneeled down and place a hand on her shoulder. “No matter what anyone says, you are not useless. Shit like this happens that we can’t control. The more you keep thinking like it’s your fault, the more you’ll be depress. I mean what would your friend Rumble say if he saw you like this? I’m pretty sure he’ll say something to cheer you up and say it wasn’t your fault, right?”
“R-right?” She said, looking back at Katie.
“How about after we get some stuff for the house, I’ll buy you whatever treat you want.” Katie said as she ruffled Scootaloo’s mane playfully. “My treat.” That was followed by a tight hug from the pegasus, almost knocking her over.
“Oh Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You’re the best, Katie!!”
“Hehe. Yeah I am aren’t I?” Katie said as she ruffled up Scootaloo’s head. “So, where’s the nearest store that sells household items?”
“There’s one down the street next to Sugarcube Corner.”
“Perfect.” The Shifter said as her body started to glow, causing Scootaloo to float around her. “Once we get what we need, we’ll swing but Sugarcube Corner and get some sweets for our place.”
“Sounds like a plan-.” Before the pegasus could say anything else, she and the shifter heard a loud scream coming from the corner of the building. “Did you hear that?”
“Not that hard not to hear it.” Katie said as she and Scootaloo rushed over around the corner. As they made it around the corner, the duo saw a group of thuggish ponies surrounding an injured pegasus wearing a light blue jump suit.
“Hehehe. Looks like we got ourselves a new toy boys.”
“I always wanted to ride a Wonderbolt.” The unicorn said as he levitated the mare close to him. “I wonder what she taste like?”
“Even here you have thuggish ponies that would take advantage of a girl.”
“Well when the world is like this, it comes to no surprise.”
“Mind helping me out on this one Dusty?”
“I’m pretty sure you can handle them alone, but I’ll only help when you’re out matched or out numbered.”
“Scootaloo, stay here for a second or two.” Katie ordered as she walked over to the group of ponies while cracking her knuckles. “It’s time to kick some ass.”
“Oh this going to be so cool.” Scootaloo said as she hid behind a trashcan while popping her from around it.
“Hey! Assholes!” Katie yelled, drawing the attention of the three colt. “Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?”
“Who the hell is that?” asked the gray colored earth pony.
“Don’t know.” said the unicorn as he let go of the mare. “But she looks middy good looking for whatever she is.” He said as he looked at Katie up and down like eye candy. “Change of plans boys, we’re getting ourselves a new pet.”
“I always wanted a pet kitty. I wonder if she’s a screamer?”
“Let’s find out.” said another earth pony as he began to charge at the shifter.
“I hope those sparring lessons with Paula will pay off in this fight.” Katie thought as she looked around for a weapon of some kind. Just as the earth pony was about to punch Katie in the face with a left hook, the shifter ducked under the fist and countered with a back flip causing the earth pony to fall on his flank.
“You’re gonna pay for that bitch!” The earth pony said as he quickly got up and tried to punch Katie again. Only for Katie to grab his fist, and Judo flip him into a dumpster. As the pony was about popped his head from out of the trash, Scootaloo appeared from behind and slammed the lid onto his head.
“Katie! Take this!” Scootaloo grabbed a metal pipe and tossed it over to the shifter, who grabbed it and took up a fighting stance as she prepared herself for the other two ponies.
“Don’t just stand there like a slack jawed idiot! Get her!” The unicorn ordered as the second earth pony charged at the shifter. As the the pony came into striking distance of Katie, the shifter simple ducked and countered with a jab to the stomach by the metal pipe. The earth pony fell to his knees as he grabbed his stomach in pain. When he was about to look up to curse at Katie, the shifter quick knocked him out by swinging the metal pipe at his head.
“Two down, one to-.” As katie looked back at the unicorn, she quickly dodge a beam of magic heading towards her face. “Whoa!”
“Hold still bitch so I can hit you!” The Unicorn said as he fired another beam of magic at Katie, only for her to dodge again and take cover behind where Scootaloo was hiding.
“Any ideas on how to take care of that unicorn?” Katie asked.
“Hit him on the horn on his head. That’s a unicorn’s weak spot.” Scootaloo answered as she pulled out a slingshot from her pocket. “You got about five to six second before he recovers from the rock I’m gonna hit him with.”
“Right.” Katie nodded as Scootaloo dashed to the side and fired a rock at the unicorn’s horn. This caused the stallion to stagger back in pain as Katie launched herself at the unicorn, and knocked the unicorn out by hitting hitting him on the head.
“Not bad for your first fight against a group of ponies.”
“Never thought those training lessons in self defense would be useful.” Katie thought as she walked over the pegasus. “You okay ma’am?” She asked as she extended a hand towards the mare.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” The mare said as she took her hand to help herself up. “Thanks for helping out back there….um….who or what are you?”
“Katie Graviton, Canterlot’s first and possibly only gravity shifter. Who might you be lady?”
“I’m Spitfire.”
“Wait you’re Spitfire!?” Scootaloo asked as she eyed the pegasus up and down. “As in Spitfire of the Wonderbolts?”
“Well it’s glad to see somepony know who I am.” Spitfire giggled. “Yep that’s me kid.”
“Um...who are the wonderbolts?” Katie asked only for Scootaloo to gasp in shock.
“You don’t know who the wonderbolts are?”
“I only been here for a day Scoot’s. I don’t know that much about this place, remember?”
“Oh, right. Anyway the mare you just saved is Spitfire, Captain of the Wonderbolt that was created by Celestia herself.”
“So they’re like a military air force?”
“Pretty much yeah.” Spitfire answered. “And I pretty much owe you one for saving my flank.”
“What happen anyway? If you’re the Captain of the wonderbolts, then how did you get jumped by three ponies like that?”
“Yeah not one of finest moments.” She said while scratching the back of her head. “I was actually chasing one of them because they stole something from a store. When I finally caught up with him, I got shot from behind by the unicorn.”
“So they’re much sucker punch you from behind.”
“Yeah, like I said not one of my finest moment.” Spitfire said as she pulled out a communicator. “I’ll have the royal guards take these guys to the dungeon. If you need anything from me, give me a call and I’ll help out in whatever you need.”
“Hm….well there is something that you could help us with.”
(Home Sweet Home)
“Welcome to Home Sweet Home, the store where you can buy whatever you need to make your home as comfortable as possible. How can I help-.” The store clerk said as he turned around and stopped midway after looking at Katie’s appearance. “Y-You.”
“Relax Silver Liner, she’s with me.” Spitfire said as she walked from behind Katie.
“Oh! Ms. Spitfire. I’m sorry, I didn’t know she was a friend of yours…not to be rude or anything, but what is she?”
“I’m a human let’s put it at that.” Katie said as she walked over to the counter and handed him a list. “I want you to get me the stuff on this list please.” She said as the clerk looked over the list.
“Hm….I think I might have some of the stuff on the list. How will you be paying for this ma’am?” Silver asked only for Katie to put a bag of bits on the counter.
“Will this cover it?”
“I-It would appear so ma’am. Please give me a second while I get the stuff you need.” With a glow from his horn, Silver Liner quickly teleported off.
“You know you could’ve let me pay for it.” Spitfire said. “It’s the least I can do for bailing me out of that mess.”
“I think you helping me carry the stuff back to our home will make us even.” Katie said as she looked at her watch. “But if you want, you can pay me back when we get to SugarCube Corner once we’re done here.”
“Fair enough.”
“Okay, I’ve return with the items you needed for your home ma’am.” Silver Liner said as he teleported back the stuff on the list. “Would you like for me to get somepony to assist you in carrying this to your home?”
“No thanks.” Katie said as her body turned red, making the bed, lamp, and TV levitated. “I’ll carry the heavy stuff. Spitfire could you carry Scootaloo while making sure none of the stuff I’m carrying fall?”
“You got it.” Spitfire said as she motion Scootaloo onto her back and begun to fly out the store.
“Thank you for the service Silver Liner.” Katie said as she flew out the store.
“Come by anytime you need something for your home ma’am!”

Mistaken Raven
“Thanks for helping me drop that stuff off at Scoot’s place Spitfire.” Katie said as she, Scootaloo, and Spitfire landed near Sugarcube corner.
“It’s least I can do for saving my flank earlier.” Spitfire said as she open the door to the pastry store for them to enter. As Katie entered in, her eyes widen at the display the store was portrayed as.
“Wow, talk about living in a fairy tale.”
“This place may look like something you would make out of candy, but the food here is so good you would make this place the only place to by pastry goods.” She said as she walked to the counter where a pink colored earth pony wearing a chef’s hat and cooking apron was busy stocking inventory. “Hey Pinkie Pie.”
“Oh hey Spitfire!” Pinkie Pie said said as she turned around and gave the flaming maned pegasus a hug. “What brings you here?”
“Just here to buy these two a snack or two for saving my flank from a bunch of thugs.” Spitfire said pointing at the orange pegasus and the human with the cat like appearance. Before she could order something up for them, Pinkie Pie quickly shot past Spitfire and appeared in front of Katie.
“Oh! I’ve never seen you around here before.” Pinkie Pie said as she zoomed around the shifter. “Are you new in town? If so then we have to throw you a “Welcome to Canterlot” party if that’s the case. What’s your name?”
“Um, Katie Graviton. Could you back up a bit? You’re kinda invading my personal space.”
“Oh, sorry.” She said as she backed up a bit. “So you saved Spitfire from a bunch of meanies huh? Well it looks like I have to host a “Welcome to Canterlot and Thanks for saving Spitfire from a bunch of meanies” party.”
“R-Really, you don’t have to do that for me. I’m sure anyone else would’ve done the same if they were where I was when it happened.”
“Nonsense. Once you save a pony from danger, you get a party as a thank you gift.” Pinkie Pie said as she walked over behind that counter, and pulled out four slices of freshly baked apple pie. “Also as a reward, you get to have these free slice of pie.”
“Sweet!” Scootaloo said as she zoomed over and grabbed a slice. “Free food is the best kind of food.” She said as she took a bite out of the pie.
“Well if you’re offering it.” Katie said as she and Spitfire took their slices. “What about the fourth one?”
“Silly filly, that one is for our new guest coming here.” Pinkie Pie said as she pointed to her tail twitching. “Twitchy tail means somepony new is coming here.” She said as she walked into the kitchen.
“Twitchy tail?” Katie asked, turning her attention at Spitfire.
“It’s something called Pinkie senses that Pinkie Pie has. For example, whenever her tail is twitching, that means somepony new is about to appear.”
“Huh, that’s actually a neat trick when you think about. So who’s the new person coming here?”
“Beats me.” Spitfire shrugged as she took another bite from her piece of pie. “It could be anypony that hasn’t been in canterlot before. So what about you? What brings you here to Canterlot?”
“Well after what Scootaloo told about how things are around here, and saving Princess Luna and her soldiers from a pack of nevis. I decided to help out around here and see if I can figure out a way to help bring back the missing towns and cities of Equestria.”
“You saved Princess Luna from those weird looking things!?”
“Yeah, she even gave me a bag of bits as a way of thank me for saving her. Celestia on the other hand is….well….she doesn’t trust me….at all.”
“You can’t really blame her for acting like that. With four of the Elements of Harmony’s wielders missing, she’s kinda on edge with how things are now.”
“Which is I’m here to help solve the disappearance of them.”
“Wait, you found a way to bring them back?”
“Not yet, but I think I might have a few ideas as to where to start.”
“Hm….alright, then it’s settled. I’m gonna help you out, hero.”
“Wait what?”
“I said I’m going to help you out. If you an idea as to where to start looking for a way to bring back a lost section of Canterlot, and if they are area’s that won’t allow you access to. Then you’ll need my help to get into. With me vouching for you, then you’ll be okay.”
“....You still owe me don’t you?”
“That and we’re pretty much friends now seeing that you saved me.”
“Fair enough.” Katie said as she notice Pinkie Pie popping her head around the corner.
“Could I ask you two for assistance please?”
“Um, sure, what is it you need help with?” Katie asked as she and Spitfire followed the party pony into the kitchen.
“I need you help putting this white diamond on top of this cake I’m making for your party.” The mare said pointing to a giant black and gold color cake with cat ears and tail sticking out of it.
“Whoa, talk about going overboard.” Dusty said.
“No kidding. This is something that a kid would kill to have.” Katie thought as she picked up the white diamond. “Why do you need this on top? It would be a waste of something that you can get bits with.”
“It for the cake silly. Plus it would look good on it.”
“Eh, I guess.” Katie said as her body glowed red and flew up to the top of the cake. As she was about to place the diamond on the top, the diamond bounce off and fell a few inches next to that cake. “Woops, my bad.”
“Don’t worry, I got it.” Spitfire said as she reached for it. As she did, the diamond began to glow as a portal appeared in front of the refrigerator that it landed in front of. “Oh pony feathers! It’s a gravity storm!”
“Take cover!” Pinkie Pie yelled as she hid behind a table.
From the portal came not nevi monstrosities, but a human woman. She possessed long black hair that fell down to her back, with nearly half of it transitioning to a deep red color. Her clothes contrasted that, consisting of a white bomber jacket and simply grey jeans that fit tight enough to show her figure, but not too tight as to restrict her movements. Her gaze had a fire that seemed to have raged for eons, looking down upon Katie as such.
“Well now, this is a surprise,” the woman said cooly, displaying no real emotion as she began to look around. “Seems I’ve found myself in a bakery of all things. Can’t say that happens too often.”
“Holy crap, is that Paula?”
“She is not.” Dusty said as he hissed mentally at look alike of Paula. “This woman is dangerous, be careful when approaching her Katie.”
“You worry too much Dusty.” Katie said as she levitated in front of the woman. “For a second there I thought you were my friend Paula, but due to that fact that you don’t have a scar on your chest, left cheek, and blast mark on your left hand and possible near your stomach. I’m gonna guess you’re from someplace else correct?” Katie asked as her tail began to flicker back and forth. “Knock it off Dusty.”
The woman raised a brow at Katie, noting the levitation. “I am not this Paula person you speak of, nor do I possess those scars. I do have scars, but not those particular ones. Based on your appearance, though, I would have to say you are an imitation of Kat. Am I wrong?”
“Don’t know who this Kat girl is, but I’m no imitation of her. Plus I’m sure she doesn’t have a cosmic cat that lives inside her.” Katie said as she mentally ordered Dusty to pop his head from out of her chest. “See.”
“That’s… odd,” the woman commented. “And no, she doesn’t. Hers died many years ago.”
“Ouch, sorry to hear that.” She said as she notice Pinkie Pie and Spitfire looking at the women in suspicion. “Relax ladies. If she wanted to hurt us, she would’ve done so by now.”
“Okay…” Spitfire said as she moved from behind the counter, while Pinkie Pie darted in front of the woman with a smile on her face.
“So you’re the pony that my tail’s been twitching to.” Pinkie Pie said as she pulled out the piece of pie from before out of her mane. “Here’s your piece of pie mysterious lady.”
She looked down at the pie, taking it in one hand. “There better not be any hair on this,” she said before taking a bite. “Mm, not bad. What flavor is it?”
“Silly filly, hair can’t go into pie.” The mare said as she moved over to the cake she was working on. “Oh, the flavor is raspberry mix with apple-.”
“Not to sound rude or anything,” Spitfire said as she interrupted the pastry pony. “But care to explain who you are and why I shouldn’t consider you a threat or not?” She asked as had a hand placed on her handgun.
“One,” she started, finishing her bite of pie before taking another, “because az yo fwend said, Ah could ki’ you if Ah wanned too.” She swallowed the bite before continuing. “Two, I have no reason to kill you; I just got here. Three, I am Raven Masters, former general of the C.E.M.F..”
“....Okay.” Spitfire said as she removed her hand from her side. “Sorry about that. With the nevis invading Canterlot a lot during the past few years, we been on edge whenever something new pops up.”
“Nevis? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an enemy nevi. The only ones I’ve met are the ones I’ve had fight for me.”
“Believe me, they’ve been popping around here more than usual. Not to mention the gravity storms that keep sucking up stuff. Canterlot is the only City that’s still standing.”
“Wait, you have them fight for you?” Scootaloo said as she appeared next to Katie. “How is that even possible?”
Raven smirked, snapping her fingers as two minion nevis appeared from small portal next to her. “This, is what I mean.”
“Are you crazy or something!?” Spitfire said in a panic. “Put those away before you get yourself and Katie in trouble!”
With a roll of her eyes, Raven snapped her fingers again. In that instant, the two nevi self destructed, leaving no trace that they were ever there. “Don’t have a heart attack. They were fully under my control.”
“Look I’m sorry if I’m a bit on edge here, but if somepony other than me see this... I know you can hold your own ground, but Katie on the other hand can’t.” Spitfire said as she pointed the girl and Scootaloo helping Pinkie Pie with the cake. “I know she can handle herself with common thugs and all, but with Celestia and the Royal Guards. She wouldn’t last long.”
“And why would the great princess of the land be so willing to target ‘Katie’ for wrongdoings she has no part in?” Raven asked. “That sounds less like a ruler and more like a tyrant.”
“With half of the pony population disappearing or getting killed by the nevi? You would be a little bit cautious about things like this.”
“There’s a fine line between caution and totalitarianism. A very fine line.”
“Look, that’s how things are now. I mean it’s not like she kills them like she did after Princess Luna got involved. Look, I’m sorry if I’m acting this way, but after seeing a few of my friends going missing or dead, I prefer not to lose someone else.” She said looking over at the trio finishing the cake.
Raven looked over Spitfire for a moment before nodding. “I understand. I have lost many to an invading force. This sounds almost similar to what I experienced most of my life. As such, I offer my assistance to you,” she said with a small bow.
“Um….T-Thanks?” Spitfire said taken surprise at the situation.
“Okay,” Katie said as she appeared back in the kitchen. “While Pinkie Pie get stuff ready for tonight, we’re gonna have a look around town to figure out a way to bring some of the cites back.”
“I shall assist,” Raven said, stepping forward. “I refuse to see another world fall like mine did. I will help you to the best that I can offer.”
“Perfect!” Katie smiled. “This is going to make things much easier.”
“I’ll do my best, but don’t think of me as a crutch. I have been warned that interfering in other worlds too much can lead to horrible events.”
“I’m sure it can’t be that bad.” Just as she said that, a loud scream was heard from outside of Sugarcube Corner. “.....Never mind.”
“That’s not good,” Raven commented, rushing out the door in the next moment. “What’s going on out here?”
“Dusty?”
“You might want to get out there quickly. There’s someone causing chaos around Canterlot, and he’s summoning nevis like crazy.”
“Dusty said that there’s someone outside summoning nevis like a portable factory making candy.” Katie said as she rushed out the door.
“Like candy? Oh please don’t tell me it’s him of all people,” Raven practically cursed. “What’s the plan, Katie?”
“See if we can get whoever it is that’s causing trouble to stop. If we can’t do it without brute force, then we’ll have to use it to stop said pony.”
“Alright, your world, your lead,” she said, gently lifting into the air with a smirk. “Let’s see if you can match the true Shifter.”
“Hey wait up!” Katie said as followed after Raven. Only to stop once they reached the location of the chaos. Standing there on top of the clocktower was a man wearing some kind of helmet along with a striped business suit he was wearing.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the up and coming hero of Canterlot. I must say in less in a day you saved not only that orange pegasus from that nevi I let loose during the storm, but the captain of the wonderbolt.” The man said as he clapped his hands. “You simply are impressive.”
“Who’s this weirdo?” Raven asked. “I was expecting it to be Discord, not a Slender rip off.”
“Atlus is my name ladies.” He said bowing to the two shifters. “I’m just a man who love to see how this world’s hero does in situations like this.”
“Well aren’t you just a dick then,” the elder shifter commented. “I don’t think you’ll need me for this, Katie. Show him what the shifters can do.”
“Yeah this shouldn’t be a problem.” Katie said as she pulled out her metal pipe from off her back.
“Sorry my little kitten, but our time to fight is too soon.” Atlus said as a portal appeared behind himself. “But I’ll leave you with a special nevi that I’ve been tinkering with.” With a snap of his fingers, the businessman disappeared into the red colored void. Appearing out of the void was a bulky slim nevi, taking the shape of a adult male pony.
“Well that’s new. Never seen a nevi that looks like this before.”
“Maybe not, but it doesn’t look happy to see you.”
“Yeah, I have the habit of pissing people off from time to-.”
“MOVE!” In a split second without thinking, Katie moved to her left to avoid whatever it is that was about to hit. Unfortunately for the young shifter, the nevi damaged her left side, causing a mild amount of damage to her internal organs.
“The hell!?” Katie said as she saw the nevi appear where she was, only to turn it’s attention to Katie as it follow her as she was free falling. “Dammit not good, Dusty I could use some help here!”
“Working on it, but your body is in shock from that punch from that nevi. Brace yourself, it’s coming this way.”
“Oh this is going to hurt.” Katie said as she prepared herself for the next attack from the nevi. But it never came; the sound of a powerful strike, however, did. “Whoa, didn’t see that coming.” She said as she felt Spitfire stopping her fall. “What just happen? Everything just went so face for me to process everything at the moment.”
“Take a look,” Spitfire said, nodding down, prompting Katie to see.
Raven was where Katie had been standing, the nevi stopped by her hand alone. “I don’t think you wanna do this, bub,” she said cooly.
“..........”
“You okay Katie?” The mare asked, only for the shifter jolt out of her grip and charges at the nevi with gravity charged kick. In a split second, the nevi that took her by surprise was now being sent flying into an abandoned building.
“Take that you bastard!” Katie yelled as she staggered a bit while holding her side. “Sucker punch me like that, thinking that would kill me. Ha!.....god this hurts.”
Raven floated down to where Katie and Spitfire were, looking her fellow shifter over. “Are you alright?”
“I feel like I go hit by a potato gun at close range. Give me a second to catch my breath and I’ll be ready to fight.” Katie said as she coughed a bit.
“Are you going to be okay?” Scootaloo asked as the young shifter patted her head.
“Hey, I’ll be fine. It’ll take more than just that to keep me down.”
“Good,” Raven noted, watching the abandoned building. “Because we’re not done quite yet.” She said as she saw the nevi float out of the building and looked down at where they were standing.
“I think he sees us.” Scootaloo said as she moved in front of Katie. “You’ll have to get past me if want my sis creep!”
“Dusty I could really use something to change the tides of things.”
“I can’t do much due to healing your internal organs. The best I can do is fuel your weapon with gravity.”
“Good enough, do it.” Katie said as she felt a surge of gravitational energy flow into the metal pipe she had in her hand. “Got an idea on how to deal with it Raven?”
“We find the eye, or eyes, and we smash them. That’s the only known way of destroying nevis outside of total obliteration.”
“Might be hard seeing how I can’t see one on him at the moment.” Katie said as she pulled herself up from the ground. “I’ll distract it. While I’m flying around it, if you see it’s eye or eyes then hit them.” She said as she jolted up towards the nevi and hit it upside its head. “Over here ugly!” She yelled as the darted around it like a fly.
As Katie weaved and bobbed through the air, Raven kept her eyes diligent, looking for that elusive weak point.
“See anything yet?” Spitfire asked, watching as well to see the eyes of the nevi.
Raven was about to say something, until she spotted the glowing red orb on his hand. She was about to head for it, but something caught her eye. A red glow reflected off one foot of the creature, being hidden by its stature. “Clever boy,” Raven whispered with a grin. “Time to show them why I’m the master!” She reached at her side, a portal summoning a broad sword to her grasp, unsheathing the mighty blade as it radiated a light, pale blue aura. “Spitfire, with me! We’re taking this thing down!”
“Yes ma’am!” Spitfire said as pulled out her handgun. Scootaloo in turn hopped on the pegasus’s back as she pulled out a slingshot and a hand full of sharp pointy rocks.
“Where do we need to hit?” Scootaloo asked, only for Spitfire to pull her off her back. “Hey!?”
“Sorry kid, but this is a bit dangerous for some like you to help out at the moment.”
“But I can help too.”
“We don’t have time to bicker, soldier!” Raven called out. “We gotta hit the two eyes! Targets’ on the left hand and right foot! Mark ‘em and take ‘em out as fast as you can!”
“Ma’am, Yes Ma’am!” Spitfire said as she took aim at the assigned targets carefully without aiming at Katie.
Katie continued performing a hit and run tactic around that nevi, that is until the navi finally got a hold of Katie’s throat. “C-Crap.” She said as she stared at the nevi. “N-Now I know you might pissed off at the fact that kept hitting while dodging you. But if you look inside deep down inside...whatever it is that nevi have as a heart, you can simply forgive-” Katie was cut short as the nevi began to choke the shifter. “Regret....regret.” was all she could manage to say as she notice the nevi raise a fist, and was about to punch her in the face. That is until he felt a sharp pain surging through his leg as he let the young shifter go.
“Eye on foot is taken out. The other eye is hard to hit due to it being covered by Katie’s throat.” Spitfire said still amining at the nevi.
“Leave that one to me!” Raven called, rocketing into the nevi’s chest. The nevi yelled in discomfort as it tried to pull away from Raven by punching her repeatedly in the face. “You think that can do anything to a professional?!” she called out at the monster, grabbing its chest hard and lifting it up like it was nothing more than a dumbbell. She twisted her wrist to the side, angling the monster’s left arm near her. “Now get out!” Raven shouted, shoving her sword right into the eye. With a loud glass shattering scream, the nevi burst into pieces as it’s limbs began to dis appeared into nothingness. As the nevi vanished two orb appeared in it’s place. The pink orb appeared on top of Raven’s head, while the blue shot towards Katie as it entered into her body.
“Is it over?” Katie asked as she floated next to Raven while rubbing her throat.
Raven looked no worse for wear, sheathing her sword away in another dimension. “Yeah, it’s over. For now, anyway.” She looked up, noting the odd orb. “What is that?”
“Dusty said place your hand on it and you will receive a reward for defeating the nevi.”
“A reward?” Raven glanced at the strange thing again before shrugging and tapping the strange item. “This better be good.” As she touched the orb, the surrounding area was engulfed in a warm soothing light before disappearing. When the light faded the orb that she was hold vanish as she was now hold a cosmic looking bunny, similar to that of Dusty.
“Dusty said that her name is Cottonball, and she’s all yours.”
Raven blinked a few times, looking at the new creature. “I… I… wh-what?! B-but how?! This doesn’t make any sense at all!”
“It’s best not to make sense of things.” Dusty said as he took control of Katie’s body. “Certain nevis have certain gift to whoever defeat them. Seeing how you defeated it, it gave you something that you lost a long time ago.”
“Greetings, I am Cottonball. It’s nice to meet the one that saved me from that small cramped place inside that nevi.” Cottonball said as hopped onto Raven’s head.
“H-hey! I didn’t say you could be up there!” Raven said, resorting to a sterner voice.
“Well it’s the least you could offer seeing how you almost ran your sword into me. Not that it would do anything, but whatever.” The bunny said as she got comfortable on the older shifter’s head. In a mere second, the cosmic bunny ended up phasing through her head and into her body. “Oh this place is much better than inside that nevi I was forced into. It’s so roomy and more open.”
Raven found a small vein pulsing just above her brow, getting slightly frustrated with her new… addition. “Cotton, must you really sleep there? It’s most disconcerting and I would rather us not start off with hostilities if I’m stuck with you.”
“Lady, I’ll be asleep for the next couple of hours trying to getting some decent sleep without the constant screaming of hearing ponies dying in the void. This is the only place that found that can help me forget my time there.”
“Wait, what void?” Katie asked, getting full control of her body.
“The place where all those ponies that get sucked into the gravity storm get sent too.”
“Do you know how to get there?” Katie said as she appeared in front of Raven.
“Give me twenty-four hours of sleep and I’ll tell you how to get there. Now if you don’t mind, I’ll be sleeping until tomorrow.” Cottenball said as she went silent.
“Looks like we have our first lead into figuring out where to find the missing cities of Equestria.”
“Oh boy,” Raven sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “This one is going to be trouble… I just know it.”
“I’m sure she can’t be that bad. I mean at least you get a little buddy now.” Katie said as she notice a pair of cosmic bunny ears and tail appearing on Raven’s body. “Um…..”
Raven’s eye gained a new twitch, already feeling the new additions. “Say one word, utter a single sound, and I will show you a whooole new world of pain.”
“L-Let’s head back to Spitfire and Scootaloo. Don’t want them to make them worry about us.” Katie said as she tried to fly down to where the pegasi were, only to wince in pain from the injury she received moments ago.
“Just hurry it up. I’m gonna so need a drink after all this.” Raven took the lead, taking the two shifters back to the ponies.
(A few hours later)
“So you’re telling me that this cosmic bunny thing know where the missing ponies are?” Spitfire asked as she took a seat next to Raven.
“From the sound of it, it seems to be there. But it passed out after climbing on my head. Don’t even know if it’s a guy or a girl, it’s so restrictive with information.”
“Dusty said that Cottenball is a girl, so I wouldn’t worry about her.” Katie said as she felt Pinkie Pie finishing patching her injuries.
“You’re lucky you moved out of the way in time. If you haven’t, then you would’ve been in a worse condition than how you are now.”
“Hey, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?”
“Just next time be more careful, silly. I prefer not to host a ‘Get better soon’ party unless it was needed.” The party pony said as he put away the first aid kit. “Sorry I could throw you that party I mention. Maybe next time when things have quite down I can throw it.”
“I would love that, thanks.” Katie said as Pinkie Pie started to head upstairs.
“Closing shop once you girls leave. Feel free to have whatever you like in the fridge before you leave.”
“Thank you, Pinkie,” Raven sighed.
“Injured in less than twenty-four hours. Man, Paula’s gonna chew my head off is she knew what happen to me.” Katie chuckled as she leaned back on her seat.
“You’re with me, kid. Fugget about it,” Raven waved off. “There was no chance of you getting killed today. Besides, scars build character. Make ya tough.”
“Welp I better head off to Canterlot and report about that happen. I’ll be sure to leave out a few details and have you take the credit of killing that nevi thing Katie:” Spitfire said as she gave off a salute to her and Raven. “It was an honor and pleasure fighting alongside a veteran like yourself for a brief moment Ms. Masters.” She said as she flew off towards Canterlot.
“By the way, I never got the chance to ask you this. But how did you appear from out of that white diamond that Pinkie Pie mistaken as something for the cake she made for me?”
“You summoned me,” Raven answered simply, watching Spitfire speed off.
“That not being specific. I mean how did you even appear like that? Can anyone do that?”
“If you know what you’re doing,” she said with a smile, now being purposefully cryptic.
“You gonna be cryptic with me for a while huh?”
“Of course. I have to get my kicks somehow.”
“.....I actually know how that feels sometimes.” Katie said as she levitated Scootaloo onto her back. “Anyway, let’s head back to Scootaloo’s place. It’s getting late, and I prefer not to get in trouble with the night watch that Scootaloo mentioned to me yesterday.”
“Probably for the best, we have a lot of planning to do once this fuzz ball wakes up,” she agreed, referring to the rabbit on her head. Together, the two made their way up, up and away for Scootaloo’s home… making sure to grab a couple pies for the road.

(The Void)
“Well that could’ve gone better.” Katie said as she pulled herself up from the ground. “Glad I landed on something soft, otherwise it would’ve hurt my ass a lot...Hey, where’s Raven?”
“Ahem?” coughed a familiar voice from underneath Katie’s feet.
“Hm?” Upon looking down, Katie notice that she was standing on top of Raven’s back. In a fit of panic and fear, she quickly moved herself from off of the older shifter. “Um….sorry.”
Raven grumbled as she pushed herself up and off of the ground. She brushed off her jacket and pants before readjusting them to better sit on her body. “Forget about it,” she said curtly before looking at Katie with a slight glare, “Literally. Forget it ever happened.”
“I’ll do that…anyway to the matter at hand. It looks like I was right about the hole in Sugarcube Corner.” Raven didn’t answer, simply taking the chance to observe their surroundings. “So where do we go from here? Because I don’t really know where to start looking.”
“Well, if I know Kat, and I do, then we go where the most destruction is.”
“And where might that be?” Katie asked as a gust of wind blew past her and Raven. Looking to her left, the young shifter could see a mushroom cloud standing off into the distance from where they are. “Scratch that, never mind.”
“Kat’s never been one for subtlety.” Raven jumped into the air and started for the mushroom cloud. “Come on, before there’s nothing left.”
“I hope she didn’t cause any damage to the place we’re looking for.” Katie said as she followed after Raven to where the mushroom cloud came from. As the duo made their way to where the explosion was coming from, Katie notice Paula yelling at Kat while carrying what she could tell were four ponies. Two under her arms, while the other two were hold onto her back. “I get the feeling something just happen that got Paula pissed.”
“Kat probably got too eager, again. She’s quick with the punch, but doesn’t always think beforehand. Let’s get down there and see what’s up.”
“Heh, kinda reminds of how I am sometimes.” The young shifter said as she lands a few inches next to Kat and Paula, who were still arguing with each other. Mainly, Paula.
“Seriously, do you even think before doing something crazy like that?” Paula asked, glaring at Kat.
The elder shifter simply shrugged. “Hey it got the job done and no one was hurt. I made sure you had everyone out of the blast range.”
“Yet the blast range was bigger then you told me it was! Do you just shoot first and ask questions later when doing crap like that!? What would happen if I didn’t get Twilight and her friends out of your range of fire!?”
“Don’t worry. I have a backup for everything.,” Kat waved off.
“Yet rarely does it work, sis,” Raven interrupted, getting both of their attentions.
“....Wow, talk about looking in a mirror.” Paula said as she placed the knocked Twilight and her friends down. She soon noticed Katie next to her and quickly walked over and hugged her. “Katie, thank god you’re alright!”
“Nice to see you too Paula. Did you get a new pair of clothes while I was away?” Katie asked as she looked at Paula up and down.
“You can thank Kat for that one.” She said, pointing a thumb at the older version of friend. Katie pulled herself away from Paula’s hug as she walked over to Kat with a questionable expression on her face.
“So...you’re another displaced dress up as Kat from Gravity Rush 1 & 2 huh?”
“They made a sequel?!“ Kat and Raven both shouted, roughly mirroring each other. “When did that happen?!“
“Hm, what year on earth did you two got displaced?” Katie asked as she tries to crunch in the numbers in her head.
“Twenty-thirteen,” they simultaneously spoke again.
“Let’s see...about three years later after Gravity Rush 1 came out for the ps vita. I pretty much got twenty-seventeen as a birthday present from Paula. I will say this...The game is so amazing, especially seeing how they have it on the PS4. Too bad they don’t have it for the PS Vita, but meh.”
“Besides that. We’re kinda the new versions of you two in a way.” Paula said as she scratched the back of her head. “Well, Katie is in more ways then some.”
“Look at that, sis, they’re already trying to replace us,” Kat said, softly patting Raven on the chest with the back of her hand.
“The nerve,” Raven said with a shake of her head.
“Games wise, not in real life. I mean after seeing what your sister can do...I’m pretty sure we can’t top that.” Paula said with a worried expression on her face as she looked back at Katie. “Katie, help me out here-.”
“Hey, does anyone feel a bit lighter for some reason?” Katie asked, as she notice Paula looking at her in shock. “What? Do I have something on me or something?”
“Take a good look at yourself.” She suggested as Katie did so, only to be surprised by the blue glowing bracelets on her arms, wrists, and legs. Only with the gold part of her clothing turned blue.
“Well...that explains it.”
“Um, Raven? What am I looking at here?”
“I wish I knew, sis,” she replied, staring at Katie in shock.
“That would be her new power that she unlocked the other day in Canterlot.” Dusty said as he appeared next to Katie while she was float in mid air. “Or in certain terms, the character that she’s dressed up as has a new power.”
Kat did a sharp inhale at seeing Dust, putting a fist to her heart for a moment before letting out a ragged breath. She felt Raven’s hand on her shoulder, but didn’t need to look to know the face Raven was making. “I’m fine. I’m fine. So, what does this power do, exactly?”
“Lunar, allows the user to be agile, light as a feather sorta speak.” The cosmic cat said as he walked over to Kat. “Think of it as being fired out of a gun only much faster. It quite helpful when dodging attack or traveling from place to place. That and allow her to wrap around her enemies.”
“I see,” Kat stammered, taking a few steps back from Dusty.
“Um, could someone get me down from here?” Katie asked as she tries to maintain her balance. “Not used to the whole gravity control without some assistance.”
“Right, of course. Excuse me.” Dusty hopped into the air as he returned back inside Katie. Causing her cosmic ear and tail to return back onto herself as she lands back on the ground.
“Much better. I was starting to get a little dizzy from spinning around in the air like that.” Katie said as she looks over at Kat. “If I can figure out how to get jupiter, then that would be very useful.”
Kat blinked at Katie a few times before turning to Raven with a finger pointed at the other girl. “Am I seeing things or does she have cat ears and a tail?”
Raven sighed. “It seems to be a new function of their familiars. It’s rather… annoying.”
“Says the woman who has one herself~.” Katie said in a singsong tone as she point to the pair of bunny ears and tail on Raven’s body. “See, she has one as well.”
She looked up, seeing the ears again. “Oh dammit, this again!”
Kat began to snicker, covering her mouth to hide her mirth. “You always said you wanted to be a playboy.”
“I will end you,” Raven said with an icy glare.
“Not to ruin the little party that we’re having, but let’s get back to the task at hand please?” Paula asked as she looked around at her surroundings. “We need to figure out how to get….parts of Ponyville back to Canterlot.”
“What do you mean parts of Ponyville?” Katie asked as Paula pointed at the somewhat remains of Ponyville. “Oh...Celestia is not gonna be happy about this.”
“You can thank Kat for that one.”
“Hey it was either blow it up or let everyone get eaten. At least we haven’t had any casualties since I showed up,” Kat said in indignation.
“Little warning would be nice next time you gonna as you quoted “Nuke the fucker” to dust.”
“I actually said ‘Nuke the enfoiré’,” Kat offhandedly corrected.
“That’s Kat. You can see where people get the confusion on which of us the eldest. I’m supposed to be, but little miss time skipper here cheats.”
“Hush, Raven. Now’s not the time for your pettiness.”
“Petty?!“
“Focus ladies, we have a what remains of a town to bring back.” Paula said as she placed a hand on her chin. “Any idea’s on how to do that? Because as of right now, I got nothing.”
Kat and Raven looked at each other for a moment before nodding to one another… and then they both shrugged. “Not a clue!” they said in perfect harmony.
“B-But aren’t you both Shifters? Shouldn’t you have an idea seeing how you’re more experienced in this sort of thing then we are?”
With a shake of her head, Kat said, “We’re experienced in fighting gravity monsters.”
“But we’ve never dealt with a gravity storm before,” Raven finished.
“I do have a few ideas, but as of right now the best I can give any of them working is a forty-percent success rate. The other sixty percent resulting in death and destruction of the whole town.”
“.....You two make Katie look like a saint at this point.”
“I don’t know if I should find that as a complement or an insult.” Katie said as she picked up a piece of rock and threw it into the air and bounced off a floating rock. Just as the stone was about to hit another floating rock, the stone suddenly phased through it and landed a few feet away from the group.
“That’s worrying,” Kat slowly said, looking at the rock that had fallen to the ground.
“What makes you say that? It’s not like this place will disappear or something….will it?”
“Um… if I say ‘yes’ will you start to panic?”
“....Well shit.”
“What do you mean this place will disappear!?” Paula yelled, causing Katie to cover her ears.
Kat instantly moved and clapped her hand over Paula’s mouth, shushing her. “Quiet!” she harshly whispered. “If anypony hears that, there’s gonna be a full riot on our hands.”
“Man, talk about being pressed for time. Hey Dusty, any ideas on how to get out of this place before we fade into nothingness?” Katie asked as she felt Dusty pop his head from out of her chest.
“Try finding something that you would not normally see in a place like this. Something that would be common where you four come from, but not something that the ponies here would know.” The cat said as he goes back inside Katie. “When you find it. It’ll lead you to where you need to go.”
“Thank you Dusty.” The young shifter said as she looked over at Kat and the others. “New Shifters one, Old shifters zero.” Giggles as she starts looking around for something out of the ordinary.
Kat took her hand off of Paula’s mouth before glancing at Raven who nodded in return. Raven started looking around as well. “Now the question is, what is it that would be out of the ordinary?”
“Well it could anything that the ponies haven’t seen. So I’m gonna guess it has to be something from the human world, or from the game.” Paula said, looking around to see said object or item.
“Based on my travels, that could very well be anything. If it’s a police box, though, I’m going to scream.”
Raven rolled her eyes. “Let’s just look for this oddity. For whatever reason, these familiars know more about the gravity storm than we do. Maybe even too much, but that’s a talk for another time.”
As Katie continued her search for the oddity, she then notice a sacred gem floating in the middle of nowhere. “Well what do we have here.” She said as she reached for the gem. Just as she touched it, a trail of sacred gems appeared as it lead toward someplace else. “I think I might have found what we’re looking for ladies!”
“Okay, that’s new,” Kat blinked, looking down the trail of gems.
“New shifters two, old shifter zero.” Paula said as she started following the trail of gems along with Katie. “Better step up your A game ladies~.”
Raven stepped up to Kat as the new shifters walked after along. “Should we tell them?”
Kat just smiled. “You know the rules, Rita. We’d better keep up.” Kat floated into the air, with Raven following after her towards Paula and Katie.
“So...mind telling me why you seem a bit uneasy around Dusty?” Katie asked as she floated over to Kat as they continue following the tail of gems.
There was silence among the group, Kat just crossing her arms as if giving herself a hug. “Just… memories.”
“Oh…” Thinks for a moment before an idea pops into her head. “Want to hold Dusty? I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if it’ll make you feel better?”
“No,” she quickly responded, shaking her head. “I… I can’t do that. It will just hurt.”
“Um..okay...well the offer still stands if you want to hold Dusty anytime you want.” Katie said as she flew up ahead of the group. Moments later after following the trail of gems, they appeared in front of what was the remains of town hall. “Guess this is the place?” The young shifter said as she landed in front of the door along with Paula.
“Town hall?” Raven asked, looking at the decrepit building. “Just what could be in there that could help us?”
“Don’t know.” The young shifter said as she pulled out her metal pole from off her back, knocked the doors down with a mighty swing. “But standing here like a bunch of idiots not going to help us, so let’s go in.”
Kat hummed a little as they ventured inside. “Yes, let’s definitely go into the broken down building in the middle of a storm. Pray for the souls of any side characters venturing within.”
“Side character?” Paula asked as she walked over the broken doors and began to look around inside the building. “What does that suppose to mean?”
“Spend time with her brother, and you’ll figure it out,” Raven said. She lifted her hand and fueled it with energy, providing light for all.
“She has a brother?” The thought of her thinking that Kat’s brother was a shifter that she a sumed he’s like her caused Paula to shiver. “I hope he’s not like Kat.”
“Not really. He’s much worse.”
“....Yeah I was right. Katie is a saint compared to you two.”
The older shifter just smirked. “As you progress through your years, you’ll discover a few things.”
“Like I haven’t heard that one before.” Paula said as she turned her attention at Kat and Katie. “See anything that might be weird or odd?”
“Nope, can’t say that I see anything odd or weird.” Katie answered as she lean against the wooden wall of the building.
“Maybe we’re looking in the wrong place,” Kat said, her chin resting on her fist. “Is there a basement here?”
“How should I know? It’s not like I’ve been here long enough to know if this building does have a-.” Just as Paula was about to finish, the floor underneath her gave way as she fell through the floor and into the basement. “....found the basement...ow.”
“You okay, Paula?” Kat called down, looking into the darkness below.
“Oh I’m just fine. Nothing but gumdrops and penny whistles down here in this dark basement.” Paula said in a sarcastic tone.
“Can you see anything at all down there?” Raven asked.
“Can’t see shit if I don’t have a light! Toss me something like a lighter or something!?”
“Oh, I think I have something!” Kat exclaimed. Immediately she went rifling through her jacket, searching for something. A moment later she made a declarative shout and pulled out a small glow torch. “Incoming!” she shouted, tossing the glowing cylinder down.
“Incoming wha-!” Just as Paula looked up, the glowing cylinder hit her right in the forehead. “OW! Motherfucker!”
“Language,” Kat chastised.
“You threw a glowing stick at me! What did you expect!?” She said, rubbing her forehead as she picked up the glowing cylinder. Just as the room was starting to lite up the basement a little, a certain item caught her attention. “Hey! I think I might have found what Dusty said!”
“Alright, we’re coming down!” Raven called, dropping into the hole while using her powers to keep her descent smooth yet quick. Kat quickly followed without a word.
“What do you guys see down there!?” Katie yelled as she popped her head over the hole in the floor.
“....You gotta be fucking kidding!” Paula yelled. “You mean this is the thing we’re looking for!?”
“What? What is it?” Katie asked as she saw something heading towards her. Pulling a hand in front of her, she immediately grabbed the item that was about to hit her. Looking carefully at it, the young shifter was a bit surprise at what she had in her hand. “An apple? That’s it?”
“That’s not very out of the ordinary. Apples are one of Ponyville’s biggest exports,” Kat pointed out. “Could it be we’re missing something?”
“Well the trail leads here and this was the only thing that you were able to find down there right?” Katie said as she bit into the apple, only for her to pull away from it due to it feeling hard as a rock. “Ow!”
“What’s wrong?” Raven called out.
“I think the apple you guys found might be the oddity we been looking for.”
“What makes you say that?” Kat asked.
“Because the apple is pretty much glowing.” Katie said as she showed them what she means by displaying it through the hole.
“Now things are just getting weird.”
“You can say that again,” Raven said with a nod.
“Well at least we found what we are looking for.” Paula said as she turned her attention at Katie. “So what do we do now?”
“Give me a second.” Katie soon backed away from the hole as she called out to Dusty. “So what now Dusty?”
“Have Kat pour a huge amount of energy into the apple and it will teleport the town of Ponyville back to Canterlot.”
“Alrighty then.” Katie nodded as she walk over to the hole in the floor as she tossed the glowing apple at Kat. “Dusty said to pour a lot of energy into the apple, and it will teleport Ponyville back to Canterlot.”
Kat’s brow rose just a bit. “And just how does that work? What isn’t he telling us? What is this thing?”
“Look I don’t know. That’s what the talking cosmic cat said. If that’s what he’s saying, then I trust him seeing how he has more knowledge about stuff like this then we do.”
“Actually, why don’t you and Paula do it?” suggested Raven.
“Because Katie can’t do that due to the fact that she can’t stay in control of her powers without the assistance of me.” Dusty said as he appeared next to Katie. “You should know that after what happen back in Canterlot with that Navi.”
“Well you’re right there. So your logic doesn’t make much sense,” Kat pointed out.
“Would you rather stay here and disappear along with possibly 10,000 ponies, or would you want to leave with 10,000 ponies?”
Kat groaned, flying up to Katie and Dusty. “Fine. But if this happens again, you’re gonna have to figure out how to do this on your own.” She put her palm over the “apple” and ignited it with power, flooding into the supposed fruit.
“Understandable, now then toss the apple outside into the air above Ponyville and it will teleport us along with the town back to Canterlot.” The cosmic cat said as he disappear back into Katie.
“And I thought my Dusty was cryptic,” she muttered. She grabbed the apple out of Katie’s grasp with a twist of her wrist. Kat tossed the apple up just a bit to judge the weight before grabbing the fruit and tossing into the air with her best baseball throw, sending it flying high above the surface.
“You might want to brace yourselves.” Katie said as she felt herself body change from normal to red from Dusty being in control. “Dusty said things might get a bit….bumpy on the way home.”
“What does her mean by that?” Paula asked as she floated out of the basement as she to felt herself beginning to feel heavy. “Oh, I see.”
“Well something is starting to happen,” Raven said, following Paula up.
(Canterlot)
“I wonder how Katie is doing.” Scootaloo said as she threw a rock off the broken bridge. “She’s been gone for about an hour...Wish there was a way for me to help her out.” Just as Scootaloo was about to throw another rock, a pillar of gravitational energy spewed up from blow causing the orange filly to fall onto her back. “W-What the hay was that!?” She asked pulling herself up as she saw the pillar beginning to disappear. Once it was gone, her eyes widen in surprise at what she saw floating above her. “Ponyville! But how!? It got sucked up in a gravity storm!”
“Ugh...I think I guess got whiplash.” said a familiar voice, causing Scootaloo to turn around to see Katie stuck in a tree.
“Katie! You’re back!” Scootaloo said as she ran over to the young shifter as she fell out of the tree she was in.
“Hey, Scootaloo. Brought back Ponyville just like I said I would.” Katie said as she tried to pull herself up from the ground. “Had a little help from...huh. Where did Kat, Raven, and Paula fly off to?” The young shifter asked as she looked around for them. “Crap, don’t tell me I lost them during the ride here?”
“I’m here,” Raven groaned. Katie and Scootaloo looked up to see that initially Raven had tried to land on a cloud, but it obviously didn’t work as there was a woman shaped hole in the cloud leading to the actual woman in the ground.
“Well we found one. Now where did Paula and Kat fly off to?”
“I think I might know where she is,” Scootaloo said as she pointed over at Paula who was hanging from a flagpole by the back of her pants.
“Hang in there Paula! I’ll get you down as soon as I can get feelings in my body!” Katie said as she started to stagger to her feet, only to fall face first onto the ground. “Geez, I feel like my body is made of lead or something.”
“You really need some training. It took all of my strength to keep you from flying off during the travel from the void back to Canterlot.”
“So you’re saying I’m pretty much have no more strength left in me?”
“Pretty much yeah, not to mention you still haven’t recovered from that Navi attack from yesterday.”
“Great as if this day couldn’t get any worse...wait a minute, where’s Kat?”
Just as asked, Kat suddenly appeared, literally out of nowhere, staggering and spinning in her steps. “Okay… for once! I should have listened to him; that was a bad idea!” With that said, she spun on one heel with the other leg in the air, only to fall on her back. “I have fallen! And I choose not to get up!”
“What the hay happen to you guys?” Scootaloo asked as she leans Katie up.
“Ugh...I’ll explain everything later...once my head stop spinning. But right now we need to head back home before Celestia gets here.” Looks over at her fellow shifters. “Can anyone move and carry us out of here? All you have to do is follow Scoots over here, and she’ll lead you to our home.”
“I can walk,” Raven said, prying herself free. She stretched her back, causing it to loudly crack before she relaxed. Walking over to Kat, she noticed that her sister was in no condition to walk, let alone even fly. With a sigh, she bent down and picked Kat up, heaving her over her shoulder. “Ready to move.”
“I am never doing that again.” Paula said as she walked over to Katie after pulling herself off the flagpole. “Thank god I join the military at a young age.” She said, picking up the young shifter as she carried her bridle style. “Okay….Scootaloo was it? Mind leading use to your home? Because odds are none of us are in any condition to be dealing with this world’s police force.”
“R-Right, follow me. I know of a quicker way to get to my hideout.” Scootaloo said as she walked over to a manhole cover and pry it open. “Down here.” She said as she jumped into the sewers.
Raven followed quickly, keeping Kat secure on her shoulder the whole time. “Shouldn’t Celestia be glad that Ponyville is back now? Why should we run?”
“Because after getting thrown off into a tree and possibly open up my wound from yesterday. I am not in the mood to deal with Celestia’s shit as of today.” Katie answered as she felt Paula jump into the sewers. “I’ll deal with her lecture when I go meet her later on during the day, or possibly if she sends Spitfire to get me.”
“Do I even want to know what you been doing while I was off in the void?” Paula asked. “You know what, never mind. I’ll ask you about this later once we get to some place safe.”
“On the bright side, we were able to get Ponyville back so that a win in my book.” Looks over at Raven. “Thanks for the help Raven. Is your sister going to be okay?”
“Yeah, she’ll be fine. Just stretched herself too far by manipulating time.”
“....Wait, she can control time as well as gravity?” Paula asked as she looked over at Kat. “I don’t know if I should be worry about her more then ever now.”
“Actually I’ve been able to do it too, but not like she can. Kat’s got a… special relation to time. But gravity as a power itself can alter both time and space. As Kat one told me, gravity is a force of creation; it can do many things no one would ever think of.”
“Huh, I’ll have to look into that later.” Katie said as she yawned. “So what will you do now seeing how Ponyville is back in Canterlot?”
“Well, unless you two need any help with the royalty around here, we might as well scram out of here. We’ve done our part in giving you two the leg up you needed.”
“Fair enough, we’ll give you a call if things begin to turn south on our end. So the gem I got will let me contact you correct?”
Raven nodded. “Yup. The white one is mine, and the black one is Kat’s. It’s actually been pretty nice seeing you two. Even if we did have to step back to let you two figure things out on your own.”
“Feel free to stop by if you want to have a chat with us.” Paula said. “It’s nice to find out there are other people like us in the multiverse. So how do you get back home to wherever you came from?”
“For any others like us, just say, ‘Our contract is complete’. Though, for some of the more powerful Displaced like us, we do this.” Raven snapped her fingers, ripping a hole in reality behind her. “We make our own exits.”
“Wow...very impressive. I’ll have to ask my partner to teach me how to do that. But it was nice meeting you Raven. When Kat wakes up, tell her I said thank you for the assistance...even though she went overboard.”
“Hope to see you again Raven.” Katie said as she chuckled weakly. “Hope you and your bunny friend enjoy each others company.”
As if on cue, Raven’s bunny ears return at full length, causing her eye to start twitching. “We’ll work on it,” she said with a forced smile. “Try not to need us in the future you two; you’re far more powerful than you think. Trust me on that.” With a small salute, Raven stepped through the portal, taking Kat with her, said portal vanishing into nothing only a moment later.
“Well that was an interesting turn of events. Now then Katie, mind telling what you been do-.” Just as Paula turned her attention at Katie, she notice that the young shifter was passed out already. “Guess I’ll have to ask her when she wakes up.” She said as she looked over at Scootaloo. “So this hideout of yours….does it have any food that I can eat?”
“I actually restocked on some food supplies the other day.”
“Perfect, because I haven’t eaten anything in the past three days and I am hungry to the point that I’ll eat anything. Lead the way Scootaloo.”
“Yes ma’am.” The filly said as she lead Paula through the sewers.

Gravity of the Odd Situation
Chapter 8
(Next Day, Scootaloo’s home)
Resting on the bed of the pegasus named Scootaloo. Katie moaned as the rays of the sun hit her eyes causing her to toss and turn before finally waking up. Pulling herself up from the bed, the shifter winced in pain due to her body being sore after what happen yesterday.
“Ugh, I feel like I’d been thrown into a washing machine during a spin cycle.” Katie said as she rubbed her eyes trying to wake up. “What the hell happened yesterday?”
“We were able to get a part of Equestria back from the void.” said a familiar voice as Katie looked to her left to see Paula entering the room. “Though the way it was done could’ve been done better.”
“Nice to see you’re up about. You weren’t hurt during the crash landing?”
“This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been in a situation like what we were in yesterday...only this time it wasn’t in a plane.” Paula said as she made her way over to Katie. “So how are you feeling Katie?”
“My entire body feels like I’ve been thrown into a washing machine. I can barely move my body.”
“Light weight. You’ll get use to it once we get you into training and all.”
“Training?”
“Dusty informed me on what you've been doing while I was stuck in the void. I will say that I’m impressed that you made it this far on your own. But after hearing what’s happen with you and that nevis two days ago, you need more training. Running on dumb luck will not save you forever.”
“I...can see what you mean by that. But can we do that in a couple of days or so? My body is still trying to recover after getting thrown around like a rag doll.”
“I guess you can have a few days off. But afterwards it’ll be training until you can get the hang of your gravity powers.”
“Swell. And here I was hoping I would take it easy for a while.” Katie said as she started to pull herself up from the bed. Standing up she notice that she was wearing a different set of clothes then the one she was wearing yesterday.
“Hey Paula, what happen to my clothes?”
“I took them off and washed them while you were asleep.They’re drying outside so you’ll be wearing that for the time being. Honestly girl, when was the last time you cleaned your clothes or took a shower?”
“I….crap it has been a while since I’ve taken a shower. Guess with all the weird stuff that’s been going on, I kinda forgot about it.”
“Well then, it’s a good thing this place has a shower. Because you really need one seeing how you really smell.” Paula said as it caused Katie’s face to blush in embarrassment.
“Hey! I don’t see you taking a shower.”
“I took one the moment you passed out yesterday. Being stuck in that place for lord knows how long while fighting Nevis and protecting ponies, and no place to wash up after fighting can make a person a bit angry. Now go get your ass in the shower or else I’ll make you get in.” Paula said as she tossed a towel at Katie’s face. Only for the young shifter to catch it.
“I’m old enough to take a shower whenever I want to you know?”
“Just because you’re seventeen, doesn’t mean you’re old enough to live on your own. Plus seeing how I’m still your guardian for the time being, you’ll have to do what I tell you...well cleaning wise and stuff….just get in the damn shower.”
“Fine, mom...” Katie said as she floated off towards the pipe that leads to the shower.
“Honestly, she’s just as bad as her mother.”
(Canterlot, Throne Room)
“Ponyville returns to Canterlot.” Celestia said as she reads the newspaper article given to her by one of the guards. “The once lost homes that have been lost for who know how long have returned to Equestria. Local residents and eyewitnesses have seen a blonde maned hairless pony with a black cat along with a mare with red & black mane with a black crow fleeing the scene of the flying town returning. Whoever these mares are, are they the ones that brought Ponyville back along with the Princess of Friendship?”
“See sister, I told you she could be trusted.” Luna said as a smirk appeared on her face. “Less than a couple of hours, Katie was able to bring Ponyville back and Twilight along with her friends.”
“Just because she did one thing that was a huge benefit for us, doesn’t mean she can be trusted yet.” Celestia said as she levitated the newspaper to the side.”We still have other matters to attend to besides bringing back the towns as well.”
“You mean with the creatures called the nevis?”
“Yes, they have been appearing in the clouds more than usually….this seems to have happened when that creature that you introduced to me came to Equestria.”
“I doubt she has anything to do with them sister. If she did, then why would she be helping us instead of causing trouble or hurting anypony.”
“Only because she knows she can’t take us both on, and she knows she can’t ruin her reputation with the citizens.”
“....You really don’t trust her do you?”
“Not in the slightest. From what Spitfire said in her report, she has the ability to hurt those creatures, control gravity like it was magic, and after what I read in the newspaper. You can’t expect me not to fully trust her just because she brought back Ponyville along with Twilight and her friends.” The white alicorn said as Luna sighed in disappointment.
“And if the time comes when things are out of our control? What will we do if there is an invasion of those monsters. You know that our soldiers can’t last long against them. Even our magic can’t hold them off for long.”
“Plans are already being made incase something were to happen.” Celestia said as she pulled herself from off of her throne and begins to make her way pass Luna and towards the door.
“And if that plan of yours fails?”
“Have faith in me Luna. We don’t need the help of somepony like Katie to interfere with how things are now.” Reaching towards the door as she was about to open it, Luna appeared next to her as she places a hand on her shoulder.
“Don’t let your pride and stubbornness blind you from what is really going on sister.”
“I won’t, but thanks for the word of advice.” Celestia said as she opens the door and begins to walk off down the halls of the castle, leaving Luna to sigh in a mix of disappointment and annoyance.
“Let’s just hope you actually listen for once.” Luna said as she in turn teleports off into the castle.

Soldier in the Void
“Keep moving my sexy little Raven~” Crow said as Paula dodge out of the way of the bulky nevi’s fist.
“Do you mind? I’m trying to fight while staying alive in this stupid place,” Paula said as she grabs the nevi’s fist, and tossed it over her shoulder. “And you talking to me is distracting.”
“Fine, I’ll be quiet for you my love.” Crow said as Raven pulled out a shotgun from under her cloak shot the orb delivered the killing blow to the nevi. With the last orb destroyed, the bulky looking nevi disappeared into nothingness. “Impressive for a woman who only got her powers for less than a day.”
“It’s not that hard once you get the hang of it.” Paula said as she clapped the dust from off her hands. “Any idea on where we are?”
“My guess is that we’re in some kind of town.”
“No shit captain state the obvious.” Paula said as she looked around the wrecked town. “Man, and here I thought fighting in the vietnam war was bad. This place looked like it was nuked by something big.”
“Pretty much the result of what happens when the nevis attack for so long.”
“Might as well have a look around then.” Paula said as she begun to make her way down the street of the wrecked town.
“Really? You’re gonna go and check out the creepy ass town filled with nevis?”
“I don’t see you coming up with any ideas. Plus this is the only place that I could see while flying through this endless void of nothingness. For a minute there I thought I was in hell.”
“If you were in hell, then I wouldn’t be here now would I?”
“I’m pretty sure you would be there with me as a demon bird that torments me for all eternity.”
“.....Good point.” Crow said as he took in the scenery of the town. “Of all the places for us to find, it had to be a creepy ass one.”
“Wuss.”
“You don’t find this creepy or scary?”
“When you been in a war for the past 40 years or so, you tend to get used to this…..though I am a bit surprise that I have the body of a eighteen to twenty year old women.”
“A women with a sexy body~”
“Can it bird brain.” Paula said as she heard something moving around through the abandoned buildings. “You hear that?”
“Yeah, unfortunately.”
“Can you tell who it is?”
“Hard to say really. The gravity field around here is messing with my ability to sense things inside buildings. I would advise you to proceed with caution.”
“That’s what I’ve been doing for the past few hours….or days…..how long have we been in here?”
“What am I your calendar?”
“No, I just figure you would know what time it is seeing how-”
“Get down!” Crow yelled as Paula ducked out of the way of whatever is was that was coming at her. As she moved back to get a good look at her assailant, she felt someone bursting out from the building behind her trying to attack her blind spot. Paula jumped out of the way as she came down onto the being with a gravity powered foot. Looking up at the one that charged at her earlier, her eyes widen at to what she saw. Standing there was a cyan colored pegasus with rainbow colored hair. She was also wearing a torn up tank-top, scratched up jeans, and covered in scratch marks and bruises.
“What the hell?”
“Huh, never expect to see a mutant pegasus before.” Crow said as Paula looked down to the other being under her foot. From what she can tell it was a light orange pony with blonde color hair. She was wearing a cowboy hat, a checkered color shirt, and blue jeans.
“You better let Applejack go you freak.” Rainbow Dash said as she was prepare to charge at Paula.
“I would recommend you don’t do that kid.” Paula said, only for the cyan pegasus to charge at the shifter without hesitation. Paula sighed as she moved off of Applejack and dodge the pegasus’s right hook. As she moved a step away from the pegasus, Paula countered with a roundhouse kick the face, sending the mare flying into a support beam of a building. “Told yeah.” Paula then turned her attention at Applejack as she levitated her close to herself. “Start talking pony. Why did you attack me?” She asked as she started to strangle the farm pony. “Talk! Now!’
“WAIT!!!” Yelled a voice as a lavender color wall appeared in between Applejack and Paula. The shifter turned as she turned around to see a lavender colored alicorn with a dark lavender colored mane with a purple and violet streak line in it. She Alicorn was also wearing a white lab coat with a light lavender long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
“I take it you must be the leader of these two?” Paula asked
“Well I wouldn’t say leader persay. I’m like their best friend.” The Alicorn said as the shifter released Rainbow Dash from her gravitational grip.
“Mind telling who you three are and why’d you attack me?”
“My name is Princess Twilight Sparkle, but you can call me Twilight.” Twilight said as she walked over to Paula. “The ones that you fought are named Rainbow Dash and Applejack.” She said helping her friends up from off the ground. “Mind if I ask who or what you are ms..?”
“Paula Cosmos, veteran.” Paula said as she placed her shotgun on her back.
“Lame cover up name.”
“Shut it birdbrain.”
“I’m terribly sorry for what my friends tried to do to you. I guess due to your….um….appearance that they might have mistooken you as some kind of monster.”
“I guess I can let it slide this time. Far warning though. If anyone attacks me, I will fight back.”
“N-Noted. Um...could you take your foot off my friend please?” Twilight asked as Paula quickly removed her foot off of Applejack’s back. “Thanks.”
“Geez, talk about getting the wind knocked out of yeah.” Rainbow Dash said as she helped Applejack up from the ground. “Where the hay did you learn those moves from?”
“Vietnam War, but I prefer not to talk about it. Mind if we leave and find someplace safe to hit out in?” Paula asked as she point towards the sky. “I don’t feel comfortable being in the lion’s den out in the open.”
“Normally I would agree with you, but we’re trying to find another one of our friends.” Applejack said as she picked her hat up from the ground. “One of those weird blob creatures took her while attacking Ponyville.”
“Oh? A damsel in distress? This might be interesting. We should help them.”
“You’re only saying that because you’re interested to see what this friend of theirs look like.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Idiot.” Paula said as turned her attention at Twilight. “What does your friend look like?” She asked as Twilight gave the shifter a picture of her friend.
“Her name is Fluttershy. She’s Ponyville’s animal caretaker.”
“Any idea on where she was taken to?”
“Near Sweet Apple Acres.” Rainbow Dash said, pointing the the farm that was not floating in the air surrounded by nevis. “We were planning on rescuing her from that place, but for some reason I can’t fly that high and Twilight can’t use her magic in this place.”
“Maybe I can help?”
“You, help? No offense or anything, but what can you do against an entire swarm of those things flying around Sweet Apple Acres?”
“I’ll improvise.” Paula said as she begun to fly up into the air. “I should be back in a few hours or so. For the time being, try to find someplace safe to hide.” She said before flying off.
“You think you can save their friend?” Crow asked.
“Well it’s not like I can just leave an innocent bystander alone, plus it would make me feel guilty not to help.”
“For a woman who said she has a heart of stone, you really have a soft spot.”
“Shut up and just get me to this Sweet Apple Acres place.”
“Do you even have a plan for this.”
“As a matter of fact, I do.”
(Sweet Apple Acres)
“So what’s the plan?”
“How good are you when it comes to distracting someone?”
“......No.”
“Oh come on!”
“I’m not going to be bait to a bunch of monsters that can possibly kill me.”
“Oh you’ll be fine.” Paula said as she hands him a black colored Diamond. “Use this to get their attention.”
“Where the hell did you get this from?”
“Found it when I was trying to find something to cover myself up with. Fighting naked is something I do not want to relive again.”
“Well you can forget about me being your personal bait. And there is no way I’m going to do this.”
“......I’ll let look at my breasts for an hour.”
“Okay deal.” Crow said as he appeared in front of Paula. “But I won’t be able to carry that diamond you have so you gonna have to-.” Before he could finish his sentence, Paula chuck the black diamond at one of the flying nevis. The nevi turned its attention at crow along with the other nevis. “I hate being the good guy.”
“Just fly far enough so where I have enough time to get Fluttershy.” Paula said as she quickly hid behind the corner while watching Crow fly off with a swarm of nevis chasing him. “That should work, I hope-” As she was about leave and head into the barn, the diamond that she threw at the nevi’s head bounced off her head and onto the ground. Upon hitting the ground, the diamond began to glow as a portal appeared a few inches away from her.
From the swirling vortex stepped a young woman, roughly around the same age Raven herself appeared to be. Her long blonde hair was draped over a worn black jacket with golden highlights over a white t-shirt, and clad in dark grey jeans that ran down to scarred black boots. Her red eyes focused on Raven, showing a light hearted nature, but something else lay deeper that she couldn’t tell.
“Well well well,” the woman said, looking Raven over once before smirking. “Now this is something new. Yet so very old, as well.”
“Hey I resent that remark.” Paula said as she looked at herself for a moment. “Though it does feel nice to be in my 20’s again…..I take it you’re not Katie?”
“Can’t say I’ve ever known anyone like that,” the woman said, the portal closing behind her. “Call me ‘Kat’. Everyone does.”
“I’m Paula Cosmos. Nice to meet you Kat.” Paula said before going over to the barn door. “Mind helping me out seeing how you’re here?”
“I figured that’s why you brought me here. Give me the intel,” Kat seemingly ordered as she fell into step behind Paula.
“Long story short, a pony named Fluttershy is being held inside this abandoned farm on Sweet Apple Acres.” Paula answered as she slowly opens the door. “We don’t have that much time though. Crow is keeping the nevis busy, but I don’t know how long it will take for him to keep them distracted.”
“Fluttershy?” Kat asked with a quirked eyebrow. “Say no more. Let’s grab her and go.”
“Only one problem, I have no idea where she’s hiding out in.” Paula said as she readies her shotgun. “They didn’t really give me a map of this place.”
Kat smirked, cracking her knuckles. “I don’t see any issue with that. Just means we tear this place to shreds until we find her. Personally, I prefer that for them taking such a sweet pony.”
“We can’t do that. This is Applejack’s home after all. And I prefer not to have someone yelling at me for screwing up the job.”
Kat simply shrugged. “Alright. You’re the CO here.”
“Don’t call me that. I don’t like being in command of anything that much.” Paula said as she notice something moving underneath a tarp. “I think I found her.” The shifter said as she removed the tarp revealing a shivering cream colored with pink hair, she was also wearing a green long sleeve shirt and a long pink dress. “Yep found her.”
Kat looked down on the mare, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. “Good. Grab her and let’s get out of here. I won’t put her in jeopardy.”
“Right.” As Paula was about to lift the scared pegasus up onto her shoulder, she heard a familiar voice ring into her head.
“We have a problem.” Crow said.
“What problem?”
“You know the swarm of nevis that you have me distract?”
“Yes, what about them?”
“Well let’s just say that you might want to get out of there….like, NOW!”
“That can’t be a good sign.” Paula said as she lifted Fluttershy with her gravity power. “Time to haul ass.”
“Oh great. And the bad luck begins,” Kat commented, beginning to backtrack their way in.
“It could be worse.” Paula said as she ran outside the barn with Kat. “We could be fighting something bigger than us.”
“Now you jinxed it.”
“What do you mean?” Paula asked as she notice Crow flying towards her along with a giant nevi in the shape of a great white shark. “Oh.”
“Don’t worry, I got this!” Kat said, jumping into the air and started flying at the shark.
“Are you crazy!? That thing could take out an entire army in less then a second! How can you possibly take care of that thing!?”
“Easy!” she called out. “By punching it,” Kat pulled back her fist. “In the face!” She let her fist fly, slamming right into the snout of the nevi. The impact caused a crater to form in its snout and rocketing it back with a large amount of force.
Paula and Crow’s eyes widened upon seeing Kat punch the shark and sending it flying backwards. There a moment of silence for a brief moment until Crow said something to break it. “Damn, that’s was pretty badass.”
“I-Indeed, and very impressive.”
“Don’t be impressed yet!” Kat called out. “These things rarely come alone, and that one ain’t done yet!”
“Then we need to leave before more come.” Paula said as Crow flew into the shifter causing her fly as a pair of bird like wings and tail appear on her body. “Follow me, I know where the others are.” She said as she flew off to lead Kat to Ponyville.
“Hmm,” Kat mused, falling in behind Raven. “Haven’t seen that in a long time. I’m not sure it’s a good thing to see it again,” she whispered to herself.
“Well hello there cutie~” Crow said as he appeared next to Kat. “I have to say. If I was a human then I wouldn’t mind dating someone like you.”
“Sorry, bub. I’m taken,” she replied in a deadpan tone, not even bothering to look at him.
“*Sigh* A bird can dream can’t he?” Crow said as he flew back into Paula.
“Sorry about him. Crow can be a bit of a….well lovebird at times.”
“I’ve dealt with far worse. Believe you me. You see a lot of merde in the multiverse.”
“Multiverse? You mean what those scientist said about different worlds was true?”
“You have no idea. There are extensions and explorations beyond human understanding. Nor is it anything any being should try to. I’ve seen what that pursuit can do to someone.”
“You mean lead them into madness, pursuit of power or knowledge that can endanger innocents, or in the most unlikely cases screw around with the world?”
Kat nodded. “And much, much more.”
“Great, it’s the vietnam war all over again. Only this time there’s a bunch of idiots that with weird powers. As if finding Katie was gonna be hard, now I have to deal with power hungry crazy people….again.”
“You were in Vietnam on your Earth?”
“Hard to believe huh.” Paula said as she move her cloak a bit to show her some of the scars she has. “It’s weird really. I have the scars and all, but the transplants and permanent injuries I had during the war are gone. Not to mention I feel like I’m twenty again.”
“Huh, guess we have something in common after all. My father was a Nam vet.”
“Really? What rank was he?”
“Corporal during the war, but was given a low rank general command once he returned stateside. Stayed there until he was killed.”
“Sorry to hear that.” Paula said as she notice they were coming up on Ponyville. “Let’s talk later after we meet the other. I actually want to know more about you, Kat.”
Kat smiled toothily at her. “I look forward to it, Paula.”
(Ponyville, Twilight’s Castle)
“Thank you saving Fluttershy, Paula. If you hadn’t come sooner, we wouldn’t know what could’ve happen to her.” Twilight said as she shook Paula and Kat’s hands.
“It’s nothing really, just doing what I do best.”
“Ditto. Being a hero is just part of the job. Plus, it’s always nice to work alongside a fellow shifter.”
“Now if only we can figure out how to get Ponyville back to Canterlot.”
“You mean this place wasn’t always like this?” Paula asked.
“When the gravity storm came it pretty much sucked up not only the ponies, but Ponyville as well. So far the only two that were able to escape were Pinkie Pie and Rarity.” Twilight said as she looked outside the window. “So far we been stuck in this awful place for the past six to eight years or so.”
“Eight years? Wow. Guess this really must be out of your depth, Twilight.” Kat looked out at the “outside world” as well, taking it all in. “I’ve never really questioned what happened within gravity storms. Maybe I should have, then I could help better with getting you out of here.”
“So far we were able to figure out that sound seems to keep them at bay. But most of the times we have to hide so that those creature don’t find us.”
“And when they do find us, it’s hard to fight them when you can’t even damage them.” Rainbow Dash added.
“That’s because nevi are indestructible. Unless, you know what you’re doing,” Kat said, taking a lecturing tone to her voice. “Those big red eyes of theirs? Those are their only weak points. Shatter those and the nevi dissolves into nothingness. The only other way is an enormous amount of power or will to destroy them, but so far I’ve only seen shifters be able to do such things.”
“Then this is going to be a problem then. If we don’t figure out a way out of here, then I don’t know how long we’ll be able to last.” Applejack said pointing to the refugee ponies. “Most of the ponies can’t fight and those who can are injured from the last time those nevis attacked the castle.”
“Then I guess it’s up to us to keep them safe until a way out has been discovered,” Kat declared.
“Y-You’re willing to help us?”
“Well it’s not like we can just leave you in this situation like this.” Paula said. “Plus it’s not like we have much of a choice in the matter seeing how we’re stuck here together.”
“And it’s not like I have anything better to do at the moment. Just leaving you all here to rot like that would be a pretty salope move.”
“Thank you. You have no idea how much of a relief that is to know that we can rely on you for help.” Twilight said as she began to walk off. “I have to tend to wounded, make yourselves at home for the time being.”
“Can do!” the blonde called after the princess. Kat sighed as she look at the refugees and the sky above. “Merde, it’s like being there all over again.”
“Being where?” Paula asked as she walked over to Kat.
Kat looked at Paula for a moment before looking back at the blood red sky. “It’s been almost ten full years since I was last on war front. This… this might as well be one too. On another world, another Equestria, I got involved in a war that had raged for over a millennium. The changelings had turned on the rest of the world to make it theirs. By the time I joined, ponies were the only other species left. All the others had either been wiped out or only had refugees remaining. The world had become so corrupted, that the planet itself began to change and grow darker. This sky? It’s almost the exact same one I stood under for nearly fifteen years.”
“Guess we’ve both been through a lot huh?” Paula said as she pulled out a locket with her holding a seven year old version of Katie. “Looking at you really reminds me of Katie, if she was older and not a greenhorn at times.”
A soft chuckle escaped through Kat’s lips. “Just do me a favor. When you find your friend, Katie? Don’t let her become like me.”
“From looking into your eyes you done stuff that you’re not proud of.” The shifter asked as she puts the locket back underneath her cloak. “Then again I’m not here to judge seeing how I’ve done things even I’m not proud of that still give me nightmares.” Paula said as she shivers at the thought of a old memory. “All I can do it protect her, her becoming you will be a rare thing seeing how she a bit…..well….naive and trustworthy.”
“Hmm, that’s not much better, but so long as she doesn’t follow in either of our footsteps, I think she’ll end up being a good kid.”
“If by good you mean always pissing off the the local thug gang and beating crap out of bullies, then yeah I’m sure she’ll be okay.” Paula said chuckling a bit. “Hey, you wouldn’t happen to have any spare change of clothes on you do you?” She asked pointing at the worn out makeshift cloak she was wearing. “This is kinda a bit too revealing if you ask me.”
“No, nothing that would fit you anyway. But, I might be able to make a bit alteration to your attire. At least make it properly wearable.”
“It better not be the outfit I came in as. Lord knows I prefer not to wear that again.”
“You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit.”
“......Dammit, fine. Ugh, why do women outfits have to be so damn revealing in most places.”
“I blame anime. Now hold still.” Kat’s hand began to glow as Paula’s cloak morphed into a new piece of clothing. The cloak conformed to her body, taking on a deep purplish color as it became a one piece suit, leaving skin along the hip and upper thigh, as well as plenty of cleavage.
“Well, it’s better than my old outfit.” Paula said as she looked herself over. “Guess this will have to do….This suit doesn’t make me look fat does it?”
“Huh, guess I’m better at that than I thought. Looks nice, and no, it doesn’t make you look fat. If anything, your bird will want you more.”
“Indeed~” Crow said only for Paula to send him flying into a room.
“Stupid perverted bird. You think I could have a moment to myself without him butting in.”
Kat couldn’t help, but chuckle. “He’s certainly more entertaining than King was.”
“King?”
“My Raven’s bird. He was a connard. Good riddance to him.”
“Whoever this King was, he must have been a real jerk if you didn’t like him.”
“I don’t wanna go into it,” Kat waved off. “It’s been ages since then and Raven’s better off. Trust me, we could be here for hours of me going off on everything that’s happened, but this isn’t time for me. It’s time for the ponies of this world.”
“You’re right. Any ideas on how we can get Ponyville out of this hell hole?”
“At the moment? No clue. Not without putting everypony in danger, anyway.”
“Hm, if we could find a way to contact with someone on the outside, then we might be able to get someone to help us out.”
Kat let out a soft chuckle. “If only my Raven was on the other side. Then we’d have a direct link.”
“Hey Crow.” Paula said as Crow’s head appeared from her chest. “Ugh, is there a way to contact Katie some how.”
“Hm….well she should have cosmic partner with her just like us. If we can find a crack in space and time here, then I might be able to send a message to them to where this place is.” Crow said as he goes back inside the shifter.
“Easier said than done. Where are we gonna find a crack in this place?”
“Aha!” Kat suddenly exclaimed, pulling out a strange looking device with weird prongs surroinding a little green bulb. “Leave that to me.”
“What is that? It looks like something that you would see on Doctor Who back in 1963.”
She smirked. “It should. I got it on my travels with the infamous Doctor after all,” Kat said, juggling the device between her hands. “A sonic screwdriver can always be depended on.”
“Wait, you met Doctor Who? As in “The” Doctor Who!?”
“It’s just ‘The Doctor’. Or Doctor Whooves, since he was a pony. Or Time Turner for his pony name.”
“......Is it too late to ask for you be my wife.”
Kat blinked at that, staring at Paula with an expression of disbelief. “What?” she asked, taking on an actual British accent.
“I said can you be my-” Paula was cut short as her own fist rose up, and punched herself in the face. Causing Crow to fall out for a moment. “Killjoy, you can’t just let me have some fun can’t you?”
“Next time I’m gonna roast you over a roaring fire if you do that again.” Paula said as she rubbed her left face. “Damn that hurts.”
Kat blinked a couple more times before shaking her head. “You two have quite the, um, dynamic.”
“Tell me about. S-So your sonic screwdriver, can it find that crack in space and time?”
“More than likely.” Kat flicked the screwdriver, extending out the prongs. “Just have to tune it right…” She put the device close to ear and listened closely as she scanned the air. “Aaaand, aha! It’s got a signal!”
“Perfect, so where is it?”
Kat started waving the device slightly, the signal getting stronger in one direction. “Looks like it’s that way. Towards the center of town.”
“Then we’ll make our way to town hall tomorrow than.” Paula said as she yawned. “Been fighting those stupid nevi non-stop for past few hours, and it’s start to catch up on me.”
“You get some rest then. I’ll see if I can help our dear princess out in some way,” Kat said, pointing her thumb in the direction Twilight went down earlier.
“Okay, just don’t try to run yourself to the floor.” Paula said as pair of wings wrapped around the shifter as she laid on a bed in the room they were in. “Seeya in the morning, Kat.”
“Sleep well, Paula.” As Kat walked away, she muttered under her breath, “I have a feeling you’ll be needing it.”
