Big News
Pinkie Pie worked happily behind the counter of Sugarcube Corner.
'There isn't a better job in all of Equestria!' she thought to herself.
Suddenly there was a chime, and Pinkie diverted her eyes to the door. In the doorway stood her friend Rainbow Dash.
"Hiya Dash!" Pinkie happily chirped, "What can I get you?"
Rainbow Dash gently glided to the counter and landed softly. "Hey Pinkie. Do you still have any of those Rainboom Cupcakes?" she asked with a smile.
"Yep, yep, yep! They're in the back so just give me one second." Pinkie said as she turned and walked through the door that led to the kitchen.
Rainbow stood and began to let her eyes wonder about. She saw newspaper clippings about Sugarcube Corner, the Cakes' wedding day, pictures of past customers, and even some photos of celebrities that have eaten here. She saw shelves upon shelves of candies and other sweet treats. She even saw a picture of the gang on the wall.
'Man am I going to miss this place.' Dash thought to herself.
Pinkie Pie entered the dining area once more with the cupcake Dash had ordered.
"Here you go! On the house!" she said with a large smile.
"Thanks Pinkie." Rainbow replied as she picked up the cupcake, "Oh, by the way," she took a bite of the cupcake, and it was just as awesoe as she remembered it, "can you get the other girls to meet with me in the park after I get off of weather duty? I have an announcement to make."
"Sure thing Dashie." Pinkie said with a hop.
Rainbow Dash walked out of the bakery and took to the sky. She flew over to her office and opened the door. First thing she noticed was that the room was dark. She took a step inside and heard a sneeze.
"Who's there?" she asked as she took up a defensive stance.
The lights came on and blinded her momentarily but she could still hear a few voices say, "Surprise!"
"Oh my Celestia!" Dash shouted as she clutched her chest with a hoof, but a smile crept across her face, "What's this all about?" she asked with a smile.
Clear Skies and Sunshower walked over to Dash and hooved her a slice of cake on a paper plate.
"We heard about your promotion Rainbow Dash!" Sunshower said excitedly.
"Yeah so all of us decided to throw you a party!" Clear Skies said.
"Well thanks guys." Dash said as she took a bite of the cake.
Back in Ponyville
"Hey Twilight!" Pinkie warmly greeted from behind the register.
"Hey Pinkie! So," she said as she got closer, "what's today's special?"
Pinkie disappeared behind the counter for a moment. When she reappeared she had a plate balanced on her back. She slid it onto the counter so Twilight could look at it.
"Ooooo..." Twilight said as her eyes got wider, "what's that?"
"That my dear Twilight is the Triple Threat Fudge Brownie with a caramel drizzle." Pinkie said with a Trottingham accent.
Twilight giggled, "Well I'll take two."
"Ok, that'll be 4 bits please." Pinkie said with a giggle snort.
Twilight levitated the coins onto the counter and began walking out the door.
"Oh wait! Rainbow wants all of us to meet her in the park today after she gets off work. She says it's important!" Pinkie hollered after Twilight.
"Okay Pinkie, I'll be sure to tell the others." Twilight said as she walked out.
Twilight stood in the street for a moment eating her brownie before she started off towards the castle. When she did finally make it home she went straight to the one place she knew her number one assistant would be. She stopped in front of a door that had a sign posted on it that read 'Spike Zone' and knocked.
"Come in!" Spike said from inside while sounding like he was straining.
Twilight opened the door and saw that Spike was carrying a rather large rock for some reason. She picked it up with her magic for him.
"What do you need this for?" Twilight asked him.
"I'm going to sculpt something for Rarity." Spike said with enthusiasm as he held up a hammer and chisel.
Twilight chuckled, "Ok, so where do you need this?"
Spike pointed to an empty corner of his room. Twilight placed the rock down carefully, and levitated the other brownie she bought ealier to Spike.
"Thanks Twilight!"
"No problem. Just don't make to big of a mess or hurt yourself, ok?" she said with concern.
"Of course."
"I' going to go visit with the other girls for awhile Spike." Twilight said.
Spike was standing in front of the rock and had made somewhat of a box with his claws. He was turning it every which way and taking mental notes.
"Ok Twilight. Have fun." he said distractedly.
Twilight picked up the book Fluttershy had asked about borrowing fro the castle's library and walked out the door again into Ponyville.
While trotting towards the Ponyville Market, Twilight bumped into Rarity, who was getting a few groceries.
"Rarity, it's good to see you."
"Oh hello Twilight the same to you. It certainly is a wonderful day we're having." Rarity said as she scanned the sky and smiled warmly.
"It sure is."
"I guess we simply must thank Rainbow Dash for her team's efforts." Rarity said as she began eying a bunch of grapes.
"Speaking of Rainbow Dash, she wants all of us to meet with her later." Twilight said.
"Oh?" Rarity said with a raised eyebrow, "When and where darling?"
"After she gets off work and in the park." Twilight answered.
"I'll be sure to be there then. Ta ta." Rarity said as walked away.
Twilight smiled and began walking towards Fluttershy's cottage while humming a tune to herself. The walk through the forest was simply breathtaking. Twilight enjoyed a good walk every now and then to clear her head, or to just think about something that was bothering her. Twilight was so caught up in taking the sights and thinking that she practically walked to Fluttershy's while on autopilot. When she realized that she was about to knock on her door, Twilight decided that she needed to have another walk like that again soon.
The door opened a crack and a single blue eye looked outwards. Then it opened the rest of the way revealing Fluttershy. The shy mare lightly kicked at the floor, "Hello Twilight, what brings you out here today?"
"I brought the book you wanted to borrow." Twilight said as she pulled the book from her saddlebag.
Fluttershy gasped, "Thank you Twilight, but you didn't have to bring it all the way out here. I would've came and got it from you." Fluttershy whispered.
"I also came to tell you that Rainbow Dash wants to see us after she gets off work today in the park." Twilight said with a smile.
"Okay. I'll be there as soon as I finish feeding my friends." Fluttershy said with a smile.
Twilight mouthed the book over to Fluttershy and waved goodbye before turning and walking away.
'Now I need to go to Sweet Apple Acres and tell AJ.' she thought to herself.
Twilight looked up into the sky and began judging what time it might be by the sun's position and realized that she had enough time to tell AJ before she had to get to the park. She trotted on over to the farm and found her friend in the eastern field.
"Hey AJ." she said as she approached.
"Howdy Twilight, what brings you out here?" the farmer asked.
"Rainbow Dash wants to meet us in the park after she gets off work." Twilight said.
"Well, Ah guess Ah could call it fer ta'day. We better get a move on cause she's gettin' off right about now."
Twilight and AJ started walking towards town together after Applejack told her family where she was going. The pair entered the park a short time later and went to the hill where they all usually have their picnics. The others arrived shortly after with Rainbow Dash being the last to show up.
"Hey girls." Rainbow Dash said with a smile. "I have some big news to share with all of you." she said as she scanned the faces of each of her friends. "I'm moving to Manehatten."
"What?" asked everyone in unison.
Rainbow Dash cleared her throat and restated, "I'm moving to Manehatten."
Pinkie Pie burst out with uproarious laughter making everypony turn and look at her.
"What's so funny Sugarcube?" Applejack asked.
"This has to have been one of Dashie's best pranks in a while!" Pinkie exclaimed as she rolled around on her back.
"It's not a prank Pinkie." Dash said as she stepped forward and hugged her.
"But Dash..." Pinkie started, "you can't go."
Dash just hugged Pinkie harder, and soon the other girl's were hugging Dash as well.
"I have to." Dash said quietly.
"But why Darling?" Rarity asked.
"I got a promotion. I'm no longer a weather team captain. Now I'm a regional overseer." Dash said with a sad smile.
"And the regional office you're assigned to is in..." Twilight began.
"Manehatten." Dash finished.
"That's so far away." Fluttershy pointed out.
"I know, but I'll still come and visit whenever I can." Dash said.
The group broke their hug and Dash flew up into the air.
"Stay here girls. I'll be right back." Rainbow said as she took off.
She came back moments later with a couple baskets in her hooves. Rarity grabbed them with her magic as Rainbow Dash landed. She trotted over to her friends and began to unpack them.
"What's this?" Twilight asked.
"I figured that if this was going to be one of the last times we hang out for awhile, it had better be at least somewhat cool." Dash said as she continued to pull out food and games.
"Is there any way we could make you stay?" Pinkie asked with tears in her eyes.
"I'm... I'm sorry Pinkie. I have to go. The pay is good, the insurance is great, and plus my house is owned by the Weather Bureau. If I don't go with the job I'll lose everything." Dash said sadly.
"We could support you!" Pinkie said out loud.
"If we all worked together we definitely could, darling." Rarity agreed.
Rainbow Dash sat and thought for a moment, "Where would I live?"
"I have plenty of extra rooms in the castle." Twilight said.
"And how would I make money?"
"You could work with me." Rarity offered.
"No. Just no." was all Rainbow said. "No offence Rarity, but dresses?" she made a face, "Not my thing."
"You could find a job somewhere else in Ponyville. I'm sure there's something here for you." Fluttershy stated.
"Now for the big one, the insurance?"
The other's just looked back and forth at one another. Each hoping that the other would have an answer.
"Do you know just how much damage I cause with my stunts?" Rainbow asked.
"6,572 bits on average." Twilight said almost immediately.
Rainbow Dash looked over to her with a shocked face, "Really that much?"
Twilight just slowly nodded her head.
"I can't afford to lose my insurance, and I'm definitely not gonna stop training." Rainbow Dash said.
Pinkie Pie just got up and started walking away.
"Where are you going Pinkie?" Fluttershy asked.
"I've got to go plan Dashie's Going Away Party." Pinkie said with a few sobs at the end. Soon she just broke out into tears and galloped away.
"So, I guess this is really happening huh?" Twilight asked with a sad smile.
"Yeah." Dash answered quietly. "But like I said I will come visit whenever I get a chance."
Rarity placed a hoof on Dashes shoulder, "We know you will dear." She wrapped Dash in another hug before saying, "I'm terribly sorry, but I must be going. I have a rather large order to fill." Rarity stood and began walking away.
Rainbow Dash looked over at her two remaining friends and sighed. Twilight got up and walked over to her, as did Fluttershy. The three just sat in blissful silence and watched as the sun began to set in the west. The sky began to turn into a menagerie of reds and purples as the sun sank lower.
"Are you guys mad at me?" Rainbow asked breaking the silence.
"Not at all." Fluttershy said comfortingly.
"You're doing what's best for you. We can't be mad about that," Twilight said with a smile, "but we can be sad about it."
The silence returned and the three mares sat and watched the stars appear in the night sky one at a time.
