Pinkie Pie tapped her hoof at the hardwood floor with great impatience, leaning upon the counter in the front room of Sugarcube Corner. She had Pinkie promised to close up shop, a massive mistake on her part. Normally, she loved no place more than the bakery. However, as of late, Pinkie had other, better places she wanted to be. Places she should be right at that moment, if it weren't thanks to that stupid Pinkie promise she'd made. She stared out the window to find that the sky had already turned a light shade of pink. It was getting late now, and she didn't want to miss this.
She turned her glare to the clock that hung upon the wall, which seemed to be ticking unbearably slow. There were still 30 seconds left until closing time. Pinkie Pie resisted the urge to leave right then and there. She'd never in all her life break a promise, no matter how difficult it may prove to be, and this was surely proving to be the hardest promise she'd ever had to keep. As soon as the dreaded 30 seconds was up, Pinkie split immediately, not even bothering to wash off the cake batter that dotted different parts of her body. All she cared about was reaching the place she'd been thinking about all day, and thanks to her uncanny quickness, she was there in barely any time at all.
Once she reached her destination, Pinkie planted her rump onto the ground, searching the skies carefully. She squinted as she scanned over the clouds, finally spotting what she'd been looking for; a familiar rainbow-hued tail, which was currently draped over a white, puffy cloud. Pinkie rotated her tail as quickly as she possibly could, taking to the sky as if she were a helicopter. She made her way up, pulling on Rainbow Dash's tail with her mouth when she finally reached it, awaking Rainbow Dash from her nap with a start.
"Hiya, Dashie! Sorry I'm so late, I totally forgot that I promised the Cakes that I would close up Sugarcube Corner tonight! I came as fast as I could, though! Can I still watch you practice your super cool air stuff?" Pinkie asked hopefully.
Rainbow rubbed her eye with a hoof, glaring annoyedly at the pink pony in front of her. "Pinkie, I told you not to wake me up anymore. Not cool."
"I know, I know. Sorry. Please, Dashie?" Pinkie begged, clinging onto Rainbow Dash. "Please please please please please?"
The pegasus pushed Pinkie Pie off with a roll of her eyes, wiping cake batter off of her coat. "Alright, fine, whatever. Just calm down, okay? I don't see why you're all broken up about this. I mean, I know I'm great, but this is ridiculous."
Pinkie clapped her hooves together, ignoring her friend's sarcastic comment. She leapt off the cloud, sending Rainbow Dash into a panic, but somehow slowed her fall, landing safely in the grass meadow below. Rainbow would never be able to understand how Pinkie Pie worked, and she didn't bother to try. With a shake of her head, she focused on the sky above her. She unfurled her wings before rocketing off of her cloud, a rainbow trailing directly behind her. Even with the wind roaring in her ears, she could still hear the sound of Pinkie cheering her on below clearly. Dash smirked, loving the attention, and shot into a series of corkscrews through the sky.
Watching in absolute awe, Pinkie applauded from below. The sight of Rainbow Dash's brightly colored rainbow trail against the setting sun was truly one of the most beautiful things Pinkie Pie had ever seen, and it filled her with a sense of joy, and some other sort of fuzzy feeling she didn't quite understand. She'd never gotten a Pinkie sense like this before, which concerned her. When her attention returned to her friend, Rainbow Dash was doing a nosedive directly towards the ground, immediately alarming her. Pinkie ran for Rainbow Dash as quickly as she could. Surely, this is what her Pinkie sense had meant. There would be a rainbow-colored pancake on the ground if Pinkie didn't save her friend, and as great as a rainbow pancake sounded, she hated nothing more than the idea of Rainbow Dash getting hurt.
"Stop!" Pinkie cried, reaching Rainbow Dash's target and waving her hooves frantically, leaping up and down. "Rainbow Dash, stop! Please!"
Spotting the earth pony's protests from directly below her, Rainbow Dash skidded to a halt as best she could, coming to a standstill just before she nearly collided with Pinkie, her pink eyes wide.
"Seriously? What's wrong with you?" Rainbow shouted, throwing her hooves up into the air in frustration. "I almost crashed into you! What's the matter with you, anyway?"
Giving a nervous smile, Pinkie shrugged, taking a step back from her friend, who was now fuming as she waiting for an explanation. "I had a... weird feeling?" Pinkie Pie searched for words, but that was all she could manage to fish out. Not many things could render Pinkie Pie speechless, but an angry Rainbow Dash was certainly one of them.
The pegasus continued to hover above Pinkie, now utterly dumbfounded by the party pony's lame explanation. "Funny feeling? You almost made me crash... because of a funny feeling?" Her voice was progressively becoming louder as she went on. As soon as Rainbow realized the shrillness of her voice, however, she forced herself to stop, barely managing to calm herself. "You know what? I'll see you some other time, Pinkie Pie. You're being really weird." With that, Rainbow shot off towards her house, leaving Pinkie Pie alone with her thoughts.
Pinkie was hardly able to think of her dispute with Rainbow Dash, as they were all too common, anyway. All that was on her mind at the moment was the strange feeling she had gotten inside her when watching her best friend in the air. She had felt a warm, fuzzy feeling inside of her, but an exhilarating one all the same. It was nothing Pinkie Pie had felt before, as she surely would have recalled the funny sensation. While at first she'd figured it was her Pinkie sense, nothing strange had happened. Her Pinkie sense was never wrong. Something was definitely amiss. She needed help to see what was wrong with her, and quick.
Coming out of her musing, Pinkie rose to her hooves. It was nighttime now, so she hoped desperately that her friend would still be awake. With no time to lose, she galloped off in the direction of Twilight's castle. Twilight would know what was wrong with her, without question.
