His parents were at it again. This type of fight would go on nearly every night. Every time his dad started to get angry, Rose’s mother would rush Rose to his room and told him to stay there. It was only Rose’s guess as to what happened after that. How long had it been like this? Rose’s curiosity got the better of him tonight as he decided to open the door to his room slightly to see what exactly had been happening every night. He was horrified by what he saw. Rose always knew his father was not nice when he got angry, but he never expected him to hit his mother like that. Rose’s mother tried pleading with Rose’s Father, but he gave only violence in return. Rose couldn’t stand watching this. Tears were beginning to well up in his little eyes. He wanted to do something, but what could he do? He was just a little filly. As the tears started running down the side of his face, a shock came to him. His father had hit his mother so hard she fell to the ground with a loud thump. Rose almost yelped as he witnessed this. He quickly closed the door and proceeded to lean against it and continue crying. How could he have not noticed something like this before?  He needed to calm down. He quickly grabbed his favorite book and a flashlight and crawled under his sheets. As he opened the book, his heart was soothed. This book always brought him such joy and comfort during painful times. It was a story of a filly that lived in a far away place where he never had to grow up. He had friends who he played with everyday and would always stop the mean ol’ Captain Hook from spoiling their fun. Everyday was fun and the filly and his friends were never sad and never stopped having fun. This place of eternal fun was called “Neverland”. As he read through the book his eyes and smile grew wider, his heart filling with happiness. He thought about how great it would be to live in Neverland. To live in a place where you never had to grow up or be sad and could just play all day. He would never be yelled at by his dad or have to watch his mom get hurt. He closed the book and came out from under his sheets, then went to his window; gazing at the stars. The book said you can reach Neverland by flying towards the second star to the right. Oh, how he wished he could fly. If only he was born as a Pegasus. He wondered how he could make himself fly, then he realized that the book said the all you need is faith, trust, and pixie dust. If he wanted to go to Neverland, he would need pixie dust. With this thought he decided that tomorrow he would try and find some pixie dust for him and his mom, never having to deal with his father again. He noticed that the yelling and crashes stopped, so he figured that all the fighting was finished. With his head filled with thoughts of Neverland, he decided to crawl into bed and go there in his dreams. “Neverland…Second star to the right…” Rose murmured sleepily as he began to yawn. “Just… wanna' make mama… happy…” The door to happiness; The Second Star to the Right.
