Error In The System
The surface

“Thanks for taking me here Rarity, you were right about those spa sisters, they really know how to destress somepony.” Starlight thanked Rarity with a smile.
“Not to worry darling, if you're ever feeling stressed out or just need a little bit of girl time just find me and we can do this again sometime.” The fashionista replied with a kind smile. “Now, why don't you head back to the castle to get some sleep, it's getting dark out.”
Starlight looked up and saw that the sky was now turning black and stars were beginning to appear, the sun had set awhile ago and the last rays of light were beginning to retreat behind the horizon. “You're right, I should get home. Thanks again Rarity, I really enjoyed this.
“Goodnight dear, now you get going, this fashion pony needs her beauty sleep.” With that the two mares parted ways, both heading to their places of residence to sleep the night away and allow Princess Luna to watch over their dreams.
Walking through the long empty crystal hallways Starlight sighed as she began thinking of all the selfish things she did before the whole time travel incident. How she refused to believe that a few ponies could change the world, how she let her own anger get the better of her and how she tried to drive a group of friends apart for petty revenge.
She quietly stepped into her bedroom and crawled under the covers of her bed before burying her face in her pillow and letting out a groan. She turned her head slightly and looked to a photo of her friends in the Equality Village after she had been reformed. “Well...at least there's no permanent damage.” Worth that one comforting thought she closed her eyes and entered the dream realm, unaware of the figure that was currently walking through the streets of Ponyville in the darkness.
“W-W-W-Well, this c-certainly looks like a com-com-comfortable little town.” Error Sans said to himself as he walked in the middle of a street in Ponyville in the dark of the night, no one around to see him. “Although...this one se-se-se-seems to be crawling-ing with traces of dark magic.” He looked around the street while coming to a stop, placing his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. “C-c-c-c-come to th-think of it, this world seems to have-have-have a lot more dark magic present, and I-I-I can tell it's not an error that's causing it.”
Error looked to the ground in thought, wondering what else could be causing such levels of dark magic. There was the possibility of Discord, but he used chaos magic not dark magic, so he was ruled out.
“Oh we-e-e-e-ell, it can wait, I have more important matters to a-a-a-attend to.” Lifting his head he continued his walk through the streets of Ponyville, humming dark, darker yet darker to himself as he went along.
It wasn't long until he came to the front of the Castle of Friendship. He smirked before disappearing, reappearing inside the map room. Turning around he looked over the smooth crystal surface of the table between the six thrones. He slowly placed a finger on the table and a dark red version of the cutie map took its place on the surface.
“Interesting…” He lifted his finger off the crystal and the map faded away. “Now, to fi-i-i-ind the one who was m-m-messing with the timeline, after I spent so-o-o-o-o-o long trying to fix it.”
He placed his hands back in his pockets before walking out if the room, his footsteps echoing through the hallways as he walked on the crystal surface in his black slippers.
“T-T-This place needs some decorations, t-t-t-these hallways are b-b-bare as a bone.” He chuckled to himself for the pun he had made before stopping. “Seriously though, this is j-j-just depre-re-re-ressing. Get some p-p-plants or something, this is just boring.”
Finding nothing in the hallways he began to check each of the rooms that he passed, eventually finding his way to the bedrooms. He first checked Spikes room, he would have just left if it had not been for a strange energy emitting from the slumbering drake, not dark magic but something else.
Error stood to the side of Spikes bed, carefully watching him with his uneven eyes. “Strange, u-u-u-u-usually a dragon this age would-d-d have hit a growth spurt due to their greed, but this one see-seems to be able to contain his n-natural desires. S-s-strange indeed.”
Error turned his body around and quietly walked out of the room, the door closing behind him. Spike opened his eyes and looked around for a second before shrugging and falling back to sleep again.
Error then checked Twilight's bedroom, standing next to her bed and looking over her body. “An al-l-l-licorn huh? Didn't know Ce-Ce-Celestia was helping others ascend to godhood.” He questioned Celestia's reasons for taking in ponies to become alicorns before he shook his head and left the room. “Oh well, to-o-o-o each their own I g-guess.”
Finally, he reached Starlights room. He looked around and saw a rolled up scroll on the dresser. His hand glowed red and the scroll was picked up in a red aura before being lifted up and floating over to Error. He opened it up, reading the contents and recognised it as Starswirl the Bearded's time travel spell.
“W-well, looks like I've fo-o-ound the one I'm looking for.” He put the scroll back and walked towards Starlight. He looked at her and frowned. “Now why-y-y-y would a unicorn like y-you want to mess around with time?” He moved to wake her up, but stopped himself and shook his head. He decided that he'd only step in if something went wrong, until then there was no reason to scare anyone with his appearance. “I-I-I-I haven't been around the sur-sur-sur-surface for a few centuries, I think I'll take a loo-loo-look around, see the sights.”
Error smiled again before disappearing, leaving to explore the modern world while waiting for the right time to reveal himself to the ponies.
Error stood atop one of the tallest skyscrapers of Manehatten, looking down at the lit city streets. He took in a breath of the city air, reminding him of his old life in a metropolis back on earth. “Heh, I never expected this w-w-world to have its o-o-own version of Manhattan, and for its na-name to be a pun.”
As he walked along the rooftops without a care in the world he looked over to the skyscraper across from the one he was standing on, seeing a shadowy figure with glowing white eyes staring at him. It pointed its claw like finger at him before sliding it on its own neck in a threatening manner before disappearing.
Error just blinked and his teeth formed into a confident smirk. “H-here comes a ne-ne-ne-new challenger.”
