“So, how have the last few days fared, Tia?” Luna asked between a couple of bites of her salad, noticing that her sister seemed extremely stressed.
“To be short: awful,” Celestia answered, only poking at her own salad, “The past few nights have not been as relaxing as they should be.”
That actually made Luna perk up in curiosity, “Really? You haven’t been having any relaxation over the past few days?”
“I did.”
“Then what is wrong?”
Celestia sighed, “It’s getting boring, Lulu. There is no fresh meat in the Guard anymore. Every day it’s the same stallions in front of my doors.”
“And you’d like something new to relax with from time to time,” Luna ended with a smirk.
“Indeed. While it is relaxing and enjoyable to a certain point, I really wished there could be a change from time to time,” Celestia dropped her fork, “I even asked the Captain, but it seems good recruits are rare at the moment.”
“Equestria is not at war, dear sister. The recruitment stalls are closed, except for a few smaller ones in the bigger cities. Ponies tend to do what they do best, and that is not always being a guard or soldier, Tia.”
Celestia nodded, “Yes, this is quite true. Still, even one night would be a relief. But I guess it shall not be.”
Celestia wanted to go on, but they were interrupted as one of Luna’s night guards approached the table, whispering something to her princess. She looked over the mare at Luna’s side. It was a tall thestral with a lavender coat that matched the purple of her leathery wings and armor quite nicely. The purple mane and tail sparkled in the light, pronouncing the amber eyes as well.
Luna noticed her sister inspecting her guard with an interesting gaze, and it brought her an idea. Motioning for her guard to stay at her side, she grinned at Celestia, “I might have an idea to solve your problem.”
The gaze from Celestia was broken as she looked at Luna, “And that would be?”
“It shall be a surprise, but please, let me worry about it. Sadly, the night’s duties need my attention. I wish you a restful night, Tia,” Luna said before rounding the table and giving her sister a quick hug.
Celestia was left curious as Luna waved her guard with a wing to follow her, leaving the room.
“Sister, what is your plan now?” She sighed silently before continuing her salad.

As Luna entered the barracks, everypony was surprised, but still quickly stood to attention or bowed. It was rare that Luna visited them in their quarters.
Luna let her gaze wander over every single member of her guard that was present. Most of them weren’t wearing their armor, and were in a general state of chaos trying to put their regalia on due to Luna’s unannounced arrival.
“Please, do not be alarmed. Those of you that are not on duty remain as you are,” she said before turning to her Captain, “I need ten of your best soldiers lined up.”
It went quickly, and it surprised her how easily the Captain collected his ten best. Shortly, seven stallions and three mares stood tall and proud before Luna.
“You are the ten best serving my Guard. Most of you are aware of the actions I participate in during my resting times. Some of you have even joined me,” Luna stopped, “What I ask of you now, isn’t as your princess. I am doing it as your friend, so please consider it before accepting without thought.”
All ten were surprised, but nodded while Luna let her gaze wander over them. She knew her sister always took stallions, but maybe it was time for a change. Her gaze stopped at the three mares in the line, one of them was her personal guard, Midnight Flow, who had already caught her sister's attention at dinner. Smiling, she bowed her head at the stallions, “Gentlecolts, I’m sorry, but for this task I have to rely on the mares of the Guard.”
She could see that they were disappointed, some even angered, but all seven stallions bowed deeply in front of her before leaving.
“Midnight Flow, would you care to introduce me to the lovely mares at your side?” Luna asked, “Please, be at ease. I am here as your friend,” she quickly added as Midnight saluted.
Midnight Flow coughed before pointing to her left, “This is Dream Wave,” she said, then pointed to her right, “And this is Strawberry Ice.”
Luna smiled as the mares quickly bowed, looking them over. Dream Wave was a smaller mare with a night-blue coat and white mane, giving her a sweet look that went marvelously with her grey eyes. Strawberry Ice was nearly as tall as Midnight Flow, with a red mane and grey coat with piercing pink eyes.
“It is nice to meet you. I’m deeply sorry to not know every one of you by name, but it is quite hard to remember all,” Luna apologized.
“There is no need to apologize, princess,” Strawberry Ice smiled, “We live to serve.”
“Nonsense. You are my guard. You are supposed to be my friends and companions through every single day and night. I shall remember your names better from now on,” Luna said, causing the three mares to smile, “But now, for my request. Are all three of you aware what I do to relax at night?”
They all nodded, but only Midnight spoke up, “You invite two or more of us to your quarters,” she said, licking her lips.
“Of course you know,” Luna chuckled, “What you all probably won’t know, is that my sister takes the same interest. She takes two of her guards to relax, as she describes it.”
“You want us to help your sister?” Midnight asked quietly.
Luna beamed a smile, “Yes, indeed. My sister gets bored if something stays the same, and she is very stressed. Her Royal Guard has no mares, so I would like to ask you three to take care of her this night. Show her a world that is new to her.”
“And you are sure that she will agree to this?” Dream Wave cut in.
“She will,” Luna grinned, “You just have to stick to this plan.”

Celestia was tired, stressed, and it all bothered her. Normally, she would look forward to her night's rest, but she was certain that today would be just like the last few days. Her guards would stand tall and proud at her chambers, and not even flinch in surprise when she invited them in.
She needed something new.

A chuckle that died in her throat as she rounded the corner to her chambers.
Where she expected the double gold of her guards, she was greeted with triple purple this time. All three guards were mares, that she could tell. One was Luna’s guard she had already noticed at dinner, the other two were foreign to her.
“Princess,” Midnight spoke up as all three bowed, “My name is Midnight Flow, and these are my companions, Dream Wave and Strawberry Ice. We are here to treat you to a well deserved night’s rest.”
Celestia was left speechless, not knowing what to say. Instead, she let her gaze wander over the three mares. She immediately understood what Luna had done, and wondered if it could really work. She usually took stallions to her chambers, never mares. But looking at those leathery wings, the fluffy ears and the piercing fangs, she wondered how it would be with a mare, especially with a thestral. Even she had to admit that those mares were beautiful.
“Did Luna order you to do it?”
“No, princess,” Strawberry spoke up, “She simply asked us, leaving us to decide what we wanted to do.”
“Your sister yearns for the same relaxation you do. I’ve served her well these past few months,“ Midnight Flow smiled and licked her lips, “If you agree to this, we will show you a whole new world, princess.”
Celestia hesitated, but it quickly left as once again she was reminded of her fatigue, “Take off your armor, all of you.”
Midnight coughed, “Princess, there is one thing we have to make clear. If you agree to this, you have no command over us. We do this on our own, not as your guards.”
“And why should I agree to this?”
“Because in private, in the wonderful act of love, everypony should be equal, not standing over or below one another,” Dream Wave spoke up.
Celestia looked at the three mares. She knew she could always command them, she was their princess after all. But did she want to have the power, or the relief and relaxation? She noticed that Midnight Flow’s amber eyes rested on her, waiting for a reply. Sighing, she smiled a bit, “I agree to this.”
Without a word more, Celestia opened the doors to her chamber and went in, heading straight for her bed. She stopped as she heard the doors close and the lock click closed. She turned just in time to see all three mares stripping off their armor before sauntering closer to her. They circled her, all three looking her over.
