Yet, Time Eludes Us

Jedi Knight Sealed Scroll entered the vast library of information known as the Jedi Archives. With guidance from the Chief Librarian, he had little difficulty becoming intimately acquainted with the library's configuration. So much information was stored here, ranging from scientific research and fact, to Jedi combat forms and history. One could spend years researching any particular subject matter. That, however, would have to wait for another time. At present moment, the Jedi Knight was on an assignment. A personal assignment, but a charge nonetheless.

The high council had only asked him to ensure that the genealogies of the Jedi were not compromised. However, he had taken the liberty of pursuing a personal assignment. Some might criticize the action, but it had to be done. It had been quite some time since the history of the High Council itself had been considered up to date. In reality though, the configuration of its members changed rarely enough that the order's Grand Master often paid it little attention. Such a shame it is, really, that the truth and hard realities were, on occasion, lost to sentiment and obscure legends.

Sealed Scroll stood in the center of a holographic chamber, attempting to steel himself for the lecture he was due to record. He'd spent hours listening to ancient Jedi Master Gnost Dural's recordings and elaborations on the history of the Jedi Order's conflict with the Sith Empire. They were masterful, to say the least, and would be extraordinarily difficult to compare to. Scroll's own recordings would need to be perfect, lest he be made to look like a fool. But he was not ready.

The Jedi Knight took a deep breath, and meditated for a brief time, attempting to calm his nerve. He'd go over his personal notes and research one last time, in preparation for recording the lectures that would forever be stored in the recesses of the temple's archives.

He stood, took another deep breath, and began speaking to the open air.

Jedi Knight Sealed Scroll, keeper of the Jedi Archives. Year: 3631 ATC. Mission: to trace and build the most recent histories and profiles of the High Jedi Council. Firstly, the 10 official members of the High Council:

"Jedi Grand Master Celestia. She is perhaps the oldest living Jedi, yet retains a youthful appearance. Her longevity is a mystery to nearly all, the secret to which is known only to She, her sister, and the deepest recesses of the Archives. For more then a millennium, she has led the Jedi Order as Grand Master. She is commonly referred to by critics as the most balanced of the Jedi. Compassionate, reserved, powerful, and disciplined. Some speculate though that her care for her sister is her weakness, in that it is her most prominent personal attachment. According to the Jedi Code, personal attachment- emotion and passion- has no place. She seems personally afflicted and concerned, however, by Darth Tantabus". Sealed Scroll felt warm. The warmth was almost uncomfortable. But it was energizing. He still felt fresh, and felt compelled to carry on with his review.

"Jedi Master Of The Order Luna. She shares her sister's secret to longevity, despite being the younger of the two Jedi sisters. To the average mind, it may seem detrimental that such kin are knowingly permitted to serve, side-by-side, as Jedi Masters. However, they have played critical parts in sustaining the order. Some speculate that her weakness is her insecurity, coupled with her early longing for recognition, and for praise. According to the Jedi philosophy-in the words of Master Luna herself-, "A Jedi seeks not glory, or power". For more than a millennium, she and her sister have been a part of the order. In that time, Master Luna has become intimately acquainted with the force on such a level that few will ever rival. She has conflicted, personally, with Darth Saedus, and Darth Pandem, on different occasions. It is commonly believed that she is still tied to Darth Tantabus". Sealed Scroll felt... no change in feeling, only a build up in pressure. He felt no compulsion to slow down, however.

"Jedi Master Mi Amoré Cadenza. Although she is still relatively young, she is showing signs of a remarkable longevity that may bear similarity to that of the Jedi sisters. Curiously, Master Cadenza possess a unique ability rooted in the force. Through the cosmic and living forces, she is able to sense love and its associates, more so than any Jedi. Many have suggested that her affiliation with the sentiment could be attributed to her obscure origins. Despite Master Cadenza's affinity for love, she harbors a particular disliking for Darth Saedus, and for Darth Csolose". Sealed Scroll was reminded of feelings of love he'd harbored in the past. The order prohibited romance for the knights, and thus, Scroll was forced to hide the feelings.

"Jedi Master Starswirl. Although officially considered by the two sisters to be a member of the High Council, many believe him to be deceased. At one point in time, Master Starswirl was an acknowledged member. His force powers were perhaps superior to those of even Celestia and Luna, such as in the legend that tells of his use of the force to banish three demons to an unknown planet. This planet is speculated to be located somewhere at the center of the galaxy. He has been missing for several centuries, but was never confirmed dead. There is reason to believe, however, that through the cosmic and living forces, he was able to establish remarkable longevity.

"Jedi Master Scorpan. Very little is known definitively about him. He is officially a member of the order, and of the council, but is extremely difficult to contact. He and his brother were both encountered near the very edge of the galaxy, leading some to suggest that they originate from elsewhere. If this is the case, then Master Scorpan is the first known Jedi of extra-galactic origin, and his brother would be the first known Sith Lord of extra-galactic origin. Master Scorpan is the brother of Darth Temterren, whom he helped imprison".

"Jedi Master Amore. Few, other than the Sisters, Master Scorpan, and Master Starswirl- if he lives- are old enough to have ever met Master Amore. As such, much of her information was lost when the crystal planet originally vanished. She is believed, even by the sisters, to have been killed by Darth Saedus". Sealed Scroll stopped, abruptly, for a moment. He was starting to feel... cold. He felt a shiver run quickly along the length of his spine, and suddenly felt very alone.

"Jedi Master Abacus Cinch. She is widely regarded as being a formidable Jedi. Reserved, powerful, influential, disciplined, and able to shed interpersonal attachments. She has been criticized, however, for her obsessions with superiority, reputation, and condescension. She often conflicts with Celestia on the decisions the council should make".

"Jedi Master Wind Rider. Seen as a particularly skilled Jedi, where the light saber and agility are concerned. He is skilled, charming, inspirational to the younglings, and will seem to readily go out of his way to help others better themselves. However, there are rumors that he is strongly influenced by the dark side, in his pursuits of self preservation".

"Jedi Master Elaborate Luxure. He is seen as sufficiently compassionate, dependable, inspirational, kindhearted, and patient. Given his background and lineage of wealth, he is well versed in physical skills. However, it would appear that he is overly vain, and is incessantly concerned with reputation, and with interpersonal status".

Sealed Scroll took a breath. He had made progress, but was only part of the way through. He had to keep pushing. "Jedi Master Shining Armor. He is the order's most newly appointed Jedi Master, having shown remarkable physical skills, discipline, reservation, and concern for his fellow beings. As a padawan, he, alone, called for the salvation of the prophecy's home planet. He has recently garnered some renown for being pursued by Darth Csolose, and for surviving a duel with Darth Saedus, despite an injury, in an attempt to defend the crystal planet".

Just as the Jedi Knight was set to continue, he was interrupted by a voice, from behind.

"Master Scroll? The High Council... they've summoned you to the tower".

He took a moment to process. "So they did. Very well then, young one, I shall be on my way. You may leave".

"Yes, Master"

Having to resign to continuing at a later point in time, the archivist put aside his materials in a safe place, and left for the Council's tower. On the way, he could not help but allow his thought to wonder. Is the Jedi order truly as corrupt as some say? Are they but imitation's of the ancient visionary order?

Even among the high council, fault was found. There had been some recent successes with the code, yes, but Jedi should ideally be able to purge themselves of their emotions and desires.

So invested was his pondering that the Knight was surprised, after several minutes, to find that he was approaching the entrance to the council's chamber. Upon his approach, he could hear voices.

"This is... troublesome, to say the least. It is not the order's place".

"We, the Jedi are the guardians of peace and order in the galaxy. Don't we have this duty? To the people?"

"But of course. We are the Jedi Order. Over the millenia, the ancients have established for us a reputation, and we must uphold it. We the council, are supposed to be ten, yet so often we meet as seven. It is thanks to Celestia that we have this image, however misguided her attempts at solidarity may be."

"More than anyone, I understand what it means to fight for peace. But something about this conflict feels off. I feel... cold".

Lastly, Sealed Scrolled overheard the voice of the order's Grand Master. "They have come to us with this charge. We are the guardians of peace and order. This is not outside of our boundaries, as Jedi. I fear it must be done. As of today, the Galactic Civil War has begun".
