Chapter 1: A night over the bridge.
It was a dreary evening for the young officer on his daily rounds. Walking the streets as he commonly did, along the orange lights of the street lamps which gave a warm glow to the often gloom gray and darkness of Canterlot streets. He found tonight to be a bone chiller as his farther said to him once, a night which could make your breath as thick as dragons smoke and make your bones freeze till your joints stiffen from the cold dusky wind of midnight. For nights such as this he always wore his full uniform along with the addition of a knitted scarf and cotton boots to keep him warm, that and he would nick a cup of the lads cider just to keep his spirits up when the nights were glum and the streets empty. "Their always empty ya fool" Sergeant Underline would chase with his southern Canterlot accent echoing down the hall to him before taking a sip from his own flask of Cider which he homed brewed himself, and could you really blame anypony for not walking the streets at such a dark and dangerous time. Yes crime wasn't common but when it happened, it shook everypony to their core weather Unicorn, Pegasus or Earth it just wasn't in their nature to want to bring harm to one another.
But this night was a night for crime, fog as thick as butter and silent streets with not a soul to see, any who stepped out were either up to mischief or doing their job. Such as the young officer who found himself just about to finish his rounds at his normal spot of Canterlot temps Bridge which helped carriage and pony alike cross over the deep normally crystal blue waters that tonight and every night, turned black as the eye of a grate white.
Lucky for the young officer their was so much fog over it that when he did look over the stone barriers of the walk way he was just greeted by a billowing bed of solid white smoke. "Unless I felt like a midnight swim in the filth of the temps I'm not seeing a single shimmer" He said out lowed as he gave an amused chuckle to which coursed a billow of white breath to block his vision for a breath second before his eyes widened to the vision he saw only ten steps ahead of him.
A pony dressed in a long, dark coat and a workers flat cap stood over what seemed to be another pony this one a little smaller, possibly a mare or younger stallion.
POLICE OFFICER LAWSUITS REPORT.
So I was making my rounds around town, nothing really special just really foggy but as I was about to cross the Canterlot Temps bridge I saw what seemed to be a normal sized stallion wearing a long coat and workmen flat cap, standing over what I thought at the time was a hurt or unconscious mare. I called out, "Hello there! Any need of assistance!" raising a hoof to the side of my mouth to help my already loud voice ring out to the two as I quickened my pace. The pony in the coat's head seemed to quickly raise and it took four or six steps before it suddenly turned tail and ran, probably saw my uniform and realize I worked for the nick. I then naturally went into a sprint and went to give chase but the pony was long gone. So I checked the other and was shocked to find the now identified young stallion to be cold to the touch, so I raised one of his hooves and checked his pulls, nothing. I then looked down and saw a flash of red under his collar. But it wasn't a scarf or cravat, it couldn't have been his mane, his mane was a bright nutty color of beige. I dared not pull down the piece of fabric which hid who knows what had happened to his neck. I then looked around to see who else may be around and then blew my regulation whistle and instantly I found support of my comrades who had heard the whistle from the North side of the bridge. I was taken back to the station and wrote this report while the others assessed and quarantined the entire bridge.
"LAAAAWWWWSUIT!"
Sergent Underline yelled in a call of demanding fury which caused his already thick brows to furrow, along with his mustache that was connected to his thick, bristled side burns. As his mouth widened so did the thick brown fields that ran over the stallions once gray, coarse fur which held not a piece of warmth for him in his one time of need. Lucky enough for him, the blood rushing to his face seemed to help.
Lawsuit jumped from his desk, his hooves clattering against the cold floorboards of his office before coming to the sense of his name vibrating down the halls of the small police station.
