PRACTICE MAKES CONTROLLING STUFF EASIER

“In all my years as the Princess of Friendship, I’ve never once come across a pony as wildly out of control as you are!” Twilight hissed sternly as she guided young Flurry Heart through the Canterlot Castle halls. "Well, except for maybe Pinkie Pie or Discord, but still! You need to learn to be more careful with your magic."

Flurry Heart just grumbled as she scuffed her hoof off the recently cleaned floor. After a few moments, she raised her head and looked up at Twilight. “Aunt Twilight, You know that it wasn’t my fault, right?”

Twilight sighed but didn’t give an answer. “We’ll let your mother decide on this. Don’t worry, I doubt you’ll be in any real trouble… but then again…” Twilight couldn’t help but smile as the young fillies wings tensed and she could see the hair on the nape of her nieces neck stand on end.

The filly looked at the floor and continued to follow Twilight’s lead without speaking another word. Twilight couldn't help but watch the young filly mop along, dragging her hooves with each step. Twilight could see the frustration flickering in her niece’s eyes as if she was in a heated internal argument.

Stopping in the middle of the hall, Twilight sat down and looked down at the little filly as she continued to passively walk by her. “Umm, Where are you going, Flurry?”

Flurry’s head popped up and her ears swiveled, alerted by the question, she quickly surveyed her surroundings before she looked over her shoulder to see where Twilight had stopped. She quickly turned around and took a seat in front of the Princess of Friendship. “Sorry…” She murmured as she stared at the patterns on the floor.

“Look, Flurry Heart… Why don’t you explain to me what you were doing out there in the first place?” Twilight softly asked.

Flurry Heart visibly relaxed, her shoulders slumped and she looked up at her Aunt. “I wanted to test my magic. I’ve only ever used it for little things like writing or eating. I feel so strong, but I never get a chance to play around with what I’m capable of! It’s frustrating!”

Twilight nodded. “You know, you could have just come to your mother or me and we could have run you through some drills sometime. It would be much safer than… Well you know.”

Flurry sighed as she looked back down, but Twilight caught her chin in her hoof and lifted her head back up. “Don’t worry so much. We will speak with your mom and she’ll understand. Then we can have some real fun, together. Alright?”

Seeing a smile stretch across the little fillies face made it impossible for Twilight not to share the same grin. “Let’s go, your mother’s room is just up ahead.”

“I know where her sleeping chamber is, Auntie Twilight. You act as if I haven’t lived in this castle my entire life!” She playfully spat out as she took off flying down the hallway.

Twilight started running after her, “Wait! You shouldn’t fly indoors! You might-” She watched as her niece ran headfirst into a pair of guards as their rounded a corner. The guard Flurry Heart ran into staggered for a moment before regaining his composure. Him and his fellow Guard pony just looked down at the young princess as she rubbed the side of her head. “... Run into something…” Twilight mumbled as she used her teleportation spell to appear next to the conflict.

Both the guards saluted in attention as Princess Twilight appeared. “We are terribly sorry, Princess.”

“It’s alright, you two may continue on your way. This filly needs to learn not to fly indoors.” She grumbled and dismissed the two of them.

“Sorry… again.” Flurry sighed as she finally picked herself up off the floor.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m okay… can we just talk to my mom already?” Flurry Heart murmured as she walked passed Twilight and rounded the corner. Twilight followed the filly until they came to Cadance and Shining Armor’s guest chamber.

Twilight knocked on the door, but Flurry Heart pushed the door open. “Mom! You in here?”

Cadance walked around the corner from the direction of the bathroom. “Yes, my dear. Everything alright?” Upon seeing Twilight standing in the doorway behind her, “Oh, Did something happen, Twilight?”

Twilight chuckled nervously, “I know I said I would keep an eye on her but while we were in the Library…”

Cadance had shifted her stance, moving her weight to one of her hind legs and raising an eyebrow suspiciously. “You let her out of your sight, didn’t you?”

“Well…” Twilight began, as she shifted her gaze to random objects in the room.

Flurry Heart spoke up, “She was going to teach me some magic tricks in the library and while she went off to find the book she needed, I snuck outside to the gardens and just started playing around with my magic.” Aggravation flowed from her lips as she spoke.

Cadance just looked down at her daughter, somewhat stunned and unsure what to say. Finally, she looked up at Twilight. “So nopony was hurt?”

Twilight nodded, “Nopony was hurt.”

“Good.” Cadance smiled and put a hoof on her daughter’s shoulder before straightening some loose strands of hair in her mane. “So what did you do?”

Flurry Heart started to chuckle nervously. “Twilight?” She asked as she looked over her shoulder at her.

Twilight chuckled a bit but held her composure. “She brought statues to life and made them have a tea party with her. She made two of them get into an argument before sword fighting with swords she had transmuted from nearby boulders… I noticed the statues sword fighting through the library window, by the time I teleported out there the fight was over. Though I suspect that the tea party wasn’t the first spell she has casted out there on her own. Care to explain, Flurry Heart.” Twilight pressed as she glared at the young filly.

Cadence watched as her daughter stuck her tongue out at her aunt before turning back to her. “Mom, I’ve been out there before and I’ve had control over those statues for a couple weeks now. Normally, I don’t do the tea party thing, but I felt like it would be fun. I’d conjure the water from underground to bring it to the surface then use magic to heat it and turn it into tea… but today… I learned something kind of new, and when Twilight tried to fix it, she couldn’t. She doesn’t have the same magic as me and you, Mama.”

Twilight shrugged when Cadance looked up at her, “I tried to dispell the area with my anti-magic zone spell, but the magic persisted. Apparently she uses natural magic to change the properties of nature around her. She also used a reversed form of your love spell to make the two statues fight, before making them fall in love with each other. Regardless of if they actually could feel emotions, They still behaved as if they had feelings.”

Cadence sighed, “So how did you dispel the area, Flurry Heart?”

“I haven’t… I just kinda turned off the spell. I don’t know how to explain it any better than that.” Flurry rolled the edge of her hoof in a circle on the floor in front of her. “Am I in trouble?”

Cadence chuckled and sat down in front of her daughter. She pulled Flurry Heart in and smothered her. Hugging her and kissing the top of her head. “Of course not, dear. You haven’t done anything wrong. Though next time you want to experiment with your magic, let me or your aunt know. So we can at least supervise you and so nothing can get out of hoof. Okay?” She asked as she loosened her grip on her daughter.

Flurry Heart started to squirm with excitement. “Okay! When can we go back outside! I wanna show you what I can do!.”

Cadence laughed and held her daughter tighter before kissing Flurry on the cheek, “I love you. So very much.”

Flurry Heart wiggled free from her mother’s grip, “I love you too mom. I know you’re the Princess of Love and everything, but geez….” She licked the side of her hoof and ran it across her cheek where Cadance had kissed her.
