'Twas a quiet day in Ponyville. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining and everypony was enjoying it, all except for one.
That one pony had wrapped herself in her blankets and was completely isolated from the day.
That one pony was crying, which was not something she would do often. Her bed was wet from her tears.
The pony's name was Rainbow Dash, the fastest flying pony in all of Equestria. She was fighting with herself.
Should I? She might not wanna be friends with me anymore! No no Dash, think positive! S-she'll love you as much as you love her! But what if she…
Her train of thought was distributed by a knock on her door. "Go away! I've got some crying to do!" She called to whoever was at the door.
"Oh, ok." She heard a familiar soft voice. She bolted out of bed and ran to the door and opened it.
"Heh, sorry Flutters!" She said to her friend.
"I-it's alright...um....why were you crying?" Fluttershy asked.
Rainbow's mind raced. She had to think of an excuse, NOW! "Um... The next Daring Do book won't be out until next week...heh..."
Fluttershy didn't buy it but went along with it. "Ok. Um...the girls and I want you to come on a picnic with us...if you want..."
Rainbow grinned. "Course, Shy! When?"
"In half an hour. A-at the normal spot." Fluttershy said.
"Alrighty! I'll be there!" RD sheepishly smiled.
"Ok, bye!" Fluttershy started to fly away.
"Bye!" Rainbow called. She closed her door and sighed with relief then her eyes shot wide. Half an hour? What was she supposed to bring? A letter slipped through her door. She opened it and it read:
You don't need to bring anything!

Rainbow Dash smiled. Typical Pinkie.
Rainbow was one for procrastinating but she wanted to make a good impression for AJ. So she decided to leave early.
She flew to the park where the picnic spot was. She landed at the entrance and walked the rest of the way. She turned the corner and saw her long time crush setting up a picnic blanket. Alone. With none of her friends.
jeez!Rainbow thought. Applejack turned and waved to her.
oh sweet Celestia, what makes her so perfect? She thought again. Why is she so perfect? Rainbow started to trot up to Applejack. Play it cool, Dash, play it cool.
"Hey RD!" Applejack called out.
"Hey AJ." She smiled.
"I'm surprised that you showed up early." Applejack snickered.
Resist her Dashie! "Pft...yeah...had nothing on so......yeah...hehe." Rainbow blushed.
Applejack was now confused."Well Fluttershy said that you were cryin'."
"Oh...I was...uh...crying tears of joy because...I...uh....I got a new Wonderbolts poster...heh..." Rainbow Dash looked away.
The breeze picked up and it blew gently on Applejack making her mane and tail dance with the wind. "You love the Wonderbolts a lot!"
Oh Celestia, she's gorgeous! Rainbow thought. "Um...yeah..." She tried to change the subject. "Our friends are here!"
"Hi girls!" Twilight said, happily.
"Howdy!" Applejack tipped her hat.
"Hi!" Rainbow greeted.
They sat down. Rainbow Dash sat next to Applejack. Pinkie had a saddle bag full of treats. They were ever so mouthwatering. There was cupcakes, cake, daisy sandwiches, apples (from Sweet Apple Acres!), candy, lemon short-bread and water. "DIG IN EVERYPONY!" Pinkie yelled.
"Shh, Pinkie, not so loud!" Rarity hissed.
"Fine, ok :(." Pinkie agreed. She took a cupcake and ate it in one bite.
The others took a cupcake each to. Twilight realised something. "The icing is coloured like our soulmate!" Sure enough Rainbow's cupcake was orange and Applejack's was light cyan. Rarity had a yellow one and Fluttershy had a white one. And as for Twilight, hers was pink.
Applejack leaned over and whispered in Rainbow's ear. "What's a soulmate?" Rainbow blushed as she felt Applejack's fur against hers.
Rainbow whispered back. "I have no idea!"
Twilight sighed. "I heard what you said."
Egghead time! Rainbow thought.
"A soulmate is a pony with whom one has a feeling of deep or natural affinity. This may include friendship and/or romance."
"Blah blah blah blah blah!" Pinkie giggled.
Rainbow Dash turned to Applejack. She blushed when AJ giggled along with Pinkie. Oh dear Celestia, she is so adorable when she smiles. Rainbow smile became wider. I'm gonna put that letter in her mailbox no matter what!
After the picnic, Twilight, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie left, leaving Applejack and Rainbow Dash alone.
Applejack sat on the picnic blanket and looked at the spring scene before her. The light reflected of her orange body causing Rainbiw to awe.
Pick up a conversation, Dash! She thought. "So..." She nervously began. "Nice weather we are having today...heh...." Applejack turned around so that her bright green eyes were facing Rainbow's magenta ones. Beautiful...
"Yeah! I mean, a little to hot for buckin' apples but other than that, I would say so!" AJ cheerfully said.
"Hehe...yeah...so...what else do you want to talk about?" RD asked. She went a little closer to her friend.
"What about the history of apples?" AJ smiled then giggled. "Oh! I would never do that to you!"
Rainbow thought. This would be an excellent excuse to listen to AJ's voice. "No. Tell me the long, long history of apples." She said.
"Well alrighty then. In 1300...blah blah blah apples blah blah and then blah blah blah apples blah blah..." Applejack talked. Rainbow listened to every word she said, inhaling the sweet smell Applejack. After an hour of nonstop talking (as a couple of musical numbers!) AJ finally finished. "And that's the history of apples!"
Rainbow nodded. "Can you keep talking? I like your voice." She quickly covered her mouth shut with her hooves. "I...uh...I mean..."
"It's ok. You really like my voice?" Applejack asked. Rainbow blushed and nodded. "Well I'll be..."
-The next day-
"Why did Applejack get us to come here again?" Rarity asked Rainbow, Twilight and Pinkie. They were sitting down in the Golden Oak Library.
"I have no idea!" Twilight answered. Fluttershy and Applejack came trotting through the doors.
Jezz, she's looking cuter today, than she was yesterday, Rainbow thought as Applejack trotted past her. "Um...hi everypony." Fluttershy started as her and AJ walked out the front. "Applejack and I wanted to tell you something."
"Well me and Fluttershy are..." AJ blushed and looked down.
"Dating!" Fluttershy happily squealed. Rainbow felt her heart shatter into a million pieces.
"You are perfect for each other!" Rarity hugged Fluttershy.
"A farmer and an animal expert. What could be more perfect?" Twilight smiled.
"OMGYOUGUYSIMMAGONNAHAVETOTHROWCONGRATULATIONSAPPLEJACKANDFLUTTERSHYPARTY!" Pinkie Pie squealed.
Rainbow Dash felt tears in her eyes. Why? Why? Why? Why? AJ…
"You ok, Dashie?" Pinkie asked.
"...I..." Rainbow looked down. "I gotta go." And with that, she bolted to her cloud house. "AJ could have been yours, Dash!" She screamed. She bolted into her house and flew as fast as she could to her room.
"Oh AJ, I love you." Rainbow Dash said as she looked at a picture of her closest and best friend. A thought suddenly became over her. That's it!She thought.
