"How was your day at school?"Minty asked Twist as she came in the house.Twist was a beautiful child with red curled hair and a pale smooth coat.She was normally kind and shy.The only problems she had was disleslexia.It was very hard if Twist to read and speak properly.Constantly Twist got bullied for being a blank flank and being a stutterer,but Minty always comforted her.
"Spectac-u-lar!"Twist cheerfully answered as she put her backMack inthe house's closet .The house was actually a studio apartment with light green walls and a bunk bed.It was only the two of them so not much space was needed.
"Good."Minty kindly told her daughter as she kissed her on the head.
"Are we gonna make candy?"Twist asked,which was followed with stutters due to her braces.
Minty smiled.She had been waiting for this day forever.Candy was a natural part if their life.Unlike Pinkie Pie,they made hard candy like candy canes,pepper mints,and even gum balls.If Twist didn't learn today,the family business would be lost.Thats why Minty was so proud to have her daughter learn today.For many generations these secrets had been passed down.It was finally Minty's turn to share her knowledge!
"I'll get the pots and pans."Twist offered as she headed over to the kitchen corner and began to open the cabinet.
"Okay.Remeber not to touch the stove.It has to be very hot to melt the candy."Minty called as she got some candy batter from under the bunk bed.She kept it under the bed in case some one ever tried to steal it.Ever since the "incident" happened,she was positive she could keep the batter and recipe a secret forever.If her great great great great great grand ponies could do it,so could she!
What really pained Minty was that Twist didn't know.Twist didn't that her father was the cause of the incident and the horrible pain stabber;Twist was adopted.
Twist was Fluttershy and Big Mac's child before they divorced.Fluttershy didn't want Twist to live in a divorce family,so Twist was left in a box on the street.Minty took the foal in hopes of showing it to her husband,but ofcourse that was the incident,that she never spoke of.
All of a sudden a crash filled the rooms.Minty turned around to see Twist stuck inside a giant pot.
"Hi mama!"Twist said as the pot slowly rolled across the room.
Minty laughed and helped her daughter pick up the pots.But Ofcourse like a good parent she got Twist out of the pot first.She didn't want a boiled baby.
Minty put the largest pot in the stove and added some of the batter."First you wanna make it really hot.So could you go grab some fire wood?"Minty asked.
"YEP!"Twist eagerly replied.She was always wanting to help her mom and be just like her mother too.
Minty opened the bottom part of the stove and pushed some of the logs into place.They had just started burning so her hoof was in fine condition.
"Got 'em!"Twist exclaimed with two large logs of pine on her back.Twist's legs slowly shook as she tried to support the weight of the heavy logs.
"Good job."Minty said."Now do you wanna add the batter and help mommy stir the mints?"
Twist nodded joyfully.She picked up the bag if batter and poured a little bit of it in the boiling water.The pink batter spread around the pot like thunder,touching everything in it's way with its emmence power.Minty shook her head;Thunder was a deadly word to her.Never to be said or heard.
"Okay,now do I stir?"Twist questioned.Twist's eyes were always full of curiousity.Partly because Twist saw the world as an oppritunity.Minty wished that she was like that again.Minty now recognized evil,and that trust wasn't a simple as they said.Mknty always tried to stay positive,especially in front of Twist.
"Yes sweetie."Minty answered as she handed Twist the spoon.
Twist began to stir gently."Peace porridge hit,peace porridge cold,pease porridge in the pot nine days old.Some like it hit,some like it cold,some like it in the pot nine days old!"Twist retired and giggled at the end.
Minty laughed.If candy was nine days old it would definitely be bug covered or in someone's hair.That was her favorite nursery rhyme.Twist knew that verse by heart,she had heard it so many times.The rhyme itself seemed timeless.
After a few minutes of stirring Twist spoke again,"Mama,who is my papa?"
Minty looked up.She rembered Father's Day was in a few days.Coukd she really tell her daughter the truth about the incident and her origins?
Minty decided that she should tell about the incident;Minty's husband."Well..."Minty tried to say."Well...."but Mjnty burst into tears in front of her own child.
"Mama?"Twist began."Whats wrong?"Twist put a good on her mother's side in an attempt to comfort her.
"Twist I can't tell you."Minty argued,it was hard to hear since it was followed with tears.
"Mama you can tell me anything and I can tell you anything.We are 'best' friends."Twist said as she pointed to the tattoo under Minty's mane.The tattoo read:Nothing is like a Mother's Love.You couldn't see it since it was tucked deeply under Minty's pink mane,but many times had Twist braided her mom's hair and seen the words.
"Twist.I am not your real mother!Big Mac and Fluttershy didn't want you.Not even your foster father did.He left to go to war.That leaves me your foster mother.The fake mother you've been calling mama."Minty explained as she tried to hold back a huge tear storm.
"What?"Twist said.
Minty hid her face in her turquoise hooves."I know you hate me."
Twist then curled up next to Minty and started,"Even if your not my real mama,you gave me mother love,which means you are my mama.Cause that's a mother love."
Minty stopped crying."Your right Twist.I bet that one day Thunderlane,well papa,will come home from the Lunar Gaurds knce Luna frees him."
Twist then asked,"So my papa is Thunderlane?"
"Yeah."Minty began."He isn't a war hero like Shining Armor but he has to serve for one more year and then he will come racing home to see you and me.Oh,he doesn't know about you yet.When I first showed him little baby you,he thought we were your temporary foster parents."
"Mama?"Twist then said.
"What?"Minty said.She exclected Twist to ask how she met her father or if she could mail Thunder.
"The candy is burning."
