The Calm and The Storm

The sky was alive with the vibrant colours of the autumn trees, as the sun descended beyond the western border of Equestria. Large flocks of birds followed the sun in a futile pursuit, as night was fast approaching and blackened clouds were moving in from the south. Clouds blackened with rain, hail, and thunder.

A young stallion rushed across the hills and moors with a bag on his side. His coat was a royal blue and his mane was a deep purple. His eyes shone like sapphire with a glimmer of determination. He raced along the rough cobbled path, using his magic to keep up his immense speed. A bright baby blue aura had engulfed his legs and enabled him to gallop at such an amazing speed. The storm wasn't predicted for another three days. Why now? He thought to himself. His breath was heavy and his legs ached, but he pushed on. No matter, I can make this work. I have to make this work.

On his journey over the crimson dyed hills of Equestria he passed several earth ponies hurriedly dragging carts of goods between towns, passing envious glances at him, with a hint of resentment. The great red sun had been half consumed by the distant hills and the storm was almost upon them. The unicorn ran as fast as his muscles and magic could carry him. Soon the sun had fled, leaving a yellow bar on the horizon and flooding the sky with a near black hue, speckled with dots of white. As the minutes turned to hours and the night grew older the black clouds had risen above the horizon and started covering the stars. Periodic flashes of white and the roars of light illuminated the night sky.
