"Applejack...! Not so fast! I'm old, remember?!" called an elderly pony; she was chasing after a young filly all over the farm they lived in. "I can't help it, Granny Smith! It's such a beautiful day!" called Applejack; she was a young Earth Pony with a yellow-orange coat, green eyes, and a yellow mane and tail. "C'mon, Big Mac...! Let's play!" called Applejack; she continued to frolic about in their apple orchard. Big Mac tried to follow Applejack, but not even he could keep up. The three ponies lived on the family farm called Sweet Apple Acres. It was a plantation outside of Ponyville that is famous for it's apple crops and farming equipment for generations. "This filly...is runnin' me down!" said Granny Smith; she was a light green, elderly pony who stopped to rest from her pursuit of Applejack. "Eeyup." said Big Mac; he was male pony with a red coat, orange mane and coat, and he was Applejack's older brother. The Apple Family each had one thing in common: They each had an Apple for a Cutie Mark. All except Applejack, who was still a filly. Applejack then ran back to her granny and older brother, "Are you alright, Granny Smith? I'm sorry for runnin' so much. It's just such a nice day for a picnic!" She was full of energy to see the flowers blooming, to hear the birds chirping, and to feel a gentle breeze of wind against her mane. It was a free day for them since they are always so busy on the farm. "You just try to take it easy on this old mare, ya hear? I don't run like I used to...." said Granny Smith; she was trying to catch her breath. "Eeyup." added Big Mac; he was carrying a basket that contained an assortment of food like pies, bread, juice, and apples. The three then continued to the center of the apple orchard and they each set up the picnic they had planned for this day during Spring Break. They eagerly started eating the food they had prepared and thoroughly enjoyed it. All that was left for them to do after eating is to enjoy the day. "Ah...such a beautiful day." said Granny Smith; she was resting her old bones on the picnic cover while Applejack and Big Mac played Ball. "Heads up, bro...!" called Applejack; she bucked the ball high into the air and towards Big Mac. "Eeyup!" said Big Mac; he then spiked the ball back with his head with no trouble. They continued to play until late-afternoon. As the sun was going down, it was nearing the end of the day and the three knew they had to go back home. They gathered up their picnic basket and cover, and to Applejack's disappointment, went back to their farm. "It's alright, Applejack. We'll have another picnic soon. I promise." said Granny Smith; she tried to offer Applejack some comforting words. Applejack was silent and continued walking back to the farm. Granny Smith and Big Mac knew there was something troubling Applejack despite enjoying such a beautiful day. The day had quickly turned to night like always and Applejack was still awake. Her brother and granny were asleep for the night, awaiting for the next day of farm work. Applejack had a candle lit in her room so that she could look at a piece of paper that laid on the table on the opposite side of her room. It was a letter from her parents who were out of town on a business trip. She read it over again, feeling uneasy.
"Dear Applejack,
I know it has been a while since we last spoke and you probably miss us. I wish we could be there right now, but work is never done. Sorry about that. We spoke with our relatives in Manehatten and we feel that maybe you should live with them for a little while. You're still a young filly and we think you should be in a safer place before you start working at the old apple orchard. I know you got some mixed feelings about all this, but your mother and I only want what's best for you. Our relatives agreed to this and they welcome you with open hooves. We hope you understand.
With love from Apple Core and Apple Blossom."
Applejack was troubled by this, but she kept it to herself. Deep down she didn't want to go to Manehatten because she loved Sweet Apple Acres and her granny and big brother. But even though her parents are gone most of the time, she loved them a lot too. Applejack knew her parents would never steer her wrong and decided to abide by their word. She is hesitant about leaving everything for something completely different, but was willing to brave it. After she was done reading her letter, she blew the candle out and went to bed for the night. A new morning came and so did the day Applejack would move to Manehatten to live with her relatives. They stood at the Ponyville train station to wait for the train to Manehatten. All Applejack had packed with her was a picture frame with her, Big Mac, and Granny Smith in it. "Now be sure to write whenever you get the chance, ya hear?" asked Granny Smith; her heart felt heavy from having to say goodbye to her little grandchild. "I will, Granny Smith. I'll be sure to come back and visit when I get the chance." said Applejack; she forced herself to show a strong front despite not wanting to go. "Take care...." said Big Mac; he was sad to see Applejack go. "You too, Big Mac." said Applejack; she gave him a big hug. "Eeyup." said Big Mac; he hugged back. Suddenly, they then heard the sound of a loud train-whistle approaching the train station; it was time to go. Applejack didn't want to leave so soon, but she knew it was inevitable. 'Well...I guess it's time to move along, Applejack." said Granny Smith; she was sad to see Applejack go. "Um...yeah." mumbled Applejack; she nearly fell silent as the train had just reached the station. Passengers left the train and other passengers entered the train to go to Manehatten like always. "I'll be...seeing you." Said Applejack; shaking her hesitation, she then got on the train leading to Manehatten. Applejack then took her seat and then waved goodbye to Granny Smith and Big Mac for what seemed to be the last time. Granny Smith and Big Mac waved goodbye, wishing Applejack safe travels. With another loud toot, the train was readying itself to leave for Manehatten. "ALL ABOARD!!! ALL ABOARD!!!" called the conductor; the doors to the train closed and it's mighty locomotive began to move to the east. Applejack was now making her way to this unknown city of the east where her relatives lived. As she sat in her seat, waiting for her stop, she kept repeating to herself "It will be fine." over and over again. She was very nervous and she was getting goose bumps all over. Eventually, the train had finally stopped at the train station in the big bustling city of Manehatten. The city was as large as her parents described in their letters and Applejack became overwhelmed by it. The buildings rose high into the sky, the streets were solid and cold, and there were ponies everywhere. The train station was packed with ponies getting on and off the train and Applejack was scared stiff. She then noticed amongst the crowd was a lone adult male pony carrying a sign that had her name on it. "Uncle Apple Sauce...!" she called, recognizing the stallion. Applejack ran to the stallion, feeling both relief and safety to find one of her relatives so quickly. The stallion noticed her and had a big smile on his face. "Little Applejack...! You finally made it!" He ran to Applejack, relieved to know she got there safely. "You got big since the last time I saw you! Time flies fast!" said Apple Sauce; he was a dark green coat with a yellow mane and tail. "When my brother and his wife told me you've grown up a lot, they weren't kidding." Applejack blushed, "I guess I did grow a little. How is Aunt Apple Tang?" She noticed her aunt wasn't there with Apple Sauce. "Oh, she's at home getting lunch ready for your arrival. She's been bouncing off the walls with excitement. Better not keep her waiting." replied Apple Sauce; he and Applejack began to leave the train station. When they left, Applejack suddenly felt really tiny compared to the towering city she walked into. "Heh...not used to this, huh? Yeah, your dad is like that all the time here. He never could get used to this place." said Apple Sauce; he stuck close to Applejack, noticing her reaction to the city. "How can you live here? It's so...loud and scary." asked Applejack; she was on the edge of freezing in fear. "Eh...you get used to it after a while. Don't worry though. Your aunt and I are here for you." replied Apple Sauce; he knew this change of scenery won't be easy for his little cousin. They walked through a few blocks to reach an apartment building where Apple Sauce and Apple Tang lived. They walked up to the fourth floor and into a room with the number 43 on the door. "Welcome home, little Applejack." said Apple Sauce as he was opening the door. They step inside to smell the fresh and crisp scent of newly made bread. "Honey, I'm home!" called Apple Sauce; he and Applejack then went into the kitchen, following the smell of food. They see an adult female pony running around the kitchen at great speed and precision. "Is that Aunt Apple Wood...?" asked Applejack; she could hardly keep up with her speed. "Heh...yeah, that's her. You get used to this as well. She runs a bakery and the funny part is...we never run out of bread." replied Apple Sauce; he sat down at the dinner table to wait for his wife to stop running around. The mare stopped and she then saw the two and quickly ran up to Applejack. "Applejack, you're here...! I am so happy to see you!" Apple Wood quickly embraced Applejack out of joy, despite being covered in flour and baking-mix. "It's good to see you too, Aunt Apple Tang!" said Applejack; she was overwhelmed by this welcome. "You must be famished...! Please, eat some bread! Or do you prefer apple pie?! Or maybe this croissant! Or maybe-!" Apple Tang went on gathering many different kinds of food she baked for Applejack's arrival. She was a mare with an orange coat with a green mane and tail. Her Cutie Mark was a Pie with a red Apple sitting next to it. "Is she always like this...?" asked Applejack; she knew she couldn't eat all the food she was presented with. "You get used to it. She means well. You might as well eat right now. She's gonna be at it for a while." replied Apple Sauce; he began to head out of the kitchen and into the other room. "Where are you going, Uncle?" asked Applejack; she couldn't really move with all the food in her way. "I got work to do. I make juice. And I'm a little behind schedule here right now. Can't take too long." replied Apple Sauce as he left the room; his Cutie Mark was a glass with rainbow-colored juice inside. "Do you want this cobbler?! Or maybe this basket full of bread! Or maybe-!" Apple Tang was still dishing out different kinds of food for Applejack to eat. Applejack was not going anywhere anytime soon. After such a long day, Applejack sat in her bedroom feeling like a stuffed teddy-bear from all the food she ate. Her room was very nice and tidy with a bed, a dresser, a couch, and curtains on her window. She looked out at the city and still couldn't believe how different it was to Sweet Apple Acres. She felt cramped in this loud and busy place and she didn't like it. Though, if there was anything good about the view, it was the sunset see saw through her window. The light of the sun was warm and it filled Applejack with nostalgia. The day was coming to an end, almost as if it ran as fast as Apple Wood. "Hey Applejack...! Dinner is ready!" called Apple Tang; she had prepared dinner with another large amount of food. But after all that Applejack ate, food was the last thing she needed right now. But Applejack decided to at least join them and left her room to do so. When she got to the dinner table, it was packed with all kinds of food for eating. Despite eating so much earlier, Applejack began to drool. "Help yourself, Applejack! You can have as much as you want!" said Apple Tang; she was still covered in flour and baking-mix. "Um...I think I might." said Applejack; she couldn't help but want to eat what was just cooked and sat at the table. "Sigh...well, that was a fail. Thought the grape and mango recipe would be good." Apple Sauce came into the room covered in grape juice and mango juice. "Heh...another pile of food we can't finish. Just the way I like it." he said as he sat at the table. "Apple Sauce, you smell like grapes and mangos! Go and wash up before eating!" said Apple Tang. "Only if you wash up first. The yeast you could do was clean up the kitchen." said Apple Sauce; he chuckled at Apple Woods appearance. Apple Tang's cheeks then became a bright pink color, "Mmmmmm!" She was red with embarrassment. "Alright, I guess I'll go wash up. You two can eat without me." Apple Sauce left the room to go and wash up the grape and mango off him. Applejack couldn't help but laugh at her uncle's joke and her aunt's reaction. The only time she ever felt this happy was at Sweet Apple Acres. Even with all this, she still felt empty inside. After dinner, the three sat in the living room and told each other stories. "And then I said, "If that is supposed to be lime-cherry flavored, then I'm Princess Celestia." said Apple Sauce; they all laughed at his funny story. After they calmed down, Applejack then became down. "So Applejack, how are you feeling? Still homesick...?" asked Apple Sauce; he noticed something was wrong with his little cousin. Applejack wanted to deny it, but knew she couldn't. "I...don't know if I'll like it here. It's just so different here. And...I'm scared." Apple Tang then quickly embraced Applejack again. "It's alright...! It can be scary at first, but you'll like it here! I'm sure of it!" Apple Sauce chuckled, "Heh...guess this place isn't like the old homestead. Like father, like daughter. You'll get used to it after a little while. We're here for you if you're feeling down in the dumps." Applejack felt assured that they were willing to help her with anything she needed, but she still couldn't shake off that feeling of wanting to go back. They then heard the clock ring as it was 10 o'clock. "Time for bed, everypony! Brush your teeth, brush your mane, and get some sleep for a brand new day tomorrow!" said Apple Wood; she ran all over the house to prepare for bed. "Heh...you heard her. Time for bed. Tomorrow I'm gonna show you the sights help you know where you're going." said Apple Sauce; he then began to prepare for bed. "Um...alright." said Applejack; she followed to prepare for bed as well. Applejack sat in her room, still awake with that pestering feeling of nostalgia. She couldn't tell if was from nostalgia or from all the food she ate. She then looked at the picture frame she brought from home and that wasn't helping her get to sleep either. She stayed awake for what seemed like hours; but then she saw something amazing from her window. The city lights were like the stars that lit up the sky and Applejack was dazzled by it. It was still loud and busy, but the sight of it was enough to spark a sense of wonder in Applejack. "Maybe...it might not be so bad." she thought to herself; feeling a bit of curiosity. Finally, she made a deep yawn from the lack of sleep and then went to bed. She slept peacefully that night and hoped for a better day. Finally, just before the sun could rise over the horizon, Applejack was waiting patiently for the first light. Being raised on a farm usually creates that habit. Apple Sauce and Apple Wood were both still asleep since neither of them had to work until later. Finally, the sun rose above the horizon and Applejack took it in. Though, she felt a little sad about being away from everything she knew. After witnessing the sunrise, she was left with nothing to do but wait until either Apple Wood or Apple Sauce woke up. There were a few books on the table next to her window and she opened up the first one. It was titled, "Taxis and You." and all it talked about was how taxis were made and how you can get their attention for a ride. The next book Applejack opened was titled, "City Fashion-Sense." and it talked about clothing and looks, which Applejack quickly found boring. She then opened the third book titled, "Manhatten High: Class of 82." and it was actually an old yearbook from 16 years ago. Applejack looked through the book and saw all kinds of things like the Track Team photo, the Club photos, and she then saw the roster of students that were photographed. She looked through them all and saw not only her uncle and aunt, but also her parents' photos. She was surprised at how young they were 16 years ago. She laughed at the many things that were photographed into the yearbook like a prank the students pulled on the teachers or the funny faces made by the club leaders. Applejack enjoyed it from front to the near-middle until she then heard a knocking on her door. "Come in...!" Applejack closed the book when the door opened with Apple Sauce walking in. "Good morning, Applejack. I heard you giggling about something and...hm?" He noticed the book Applejack was reading and was surprised to see it. "Ah...! You found my old yearbook. I thought I lost it a year ago." he said, feeling relieved to see it again. Applejack moved it towards Apple Sauce, "I was reading it when I found it. Is that ok...?" Apple Sauce smiled, "It's fine. I don't mind. I like to look into it and remember the good and bad times I had in that old school. Your dad was such a nerd back then. He talked about plants and farming all the time when he was young. But he was pretty cool though...." Applejack looked through the book and the photos again and looked at the goofy smile on her father's face. "Heh...I hardly ever see that face anymore. He's always so busy that I hardly see him at all. I worry about him sometimes.... Keep telling to take it easy, but he keeps telling me that work is work." said Apple Sauce; he had a sad tone in his voice, showing his concern for his brother. "I'm sure my folks are happy right now. I'm proud of them both." said Applejack; her pride could be seen in her smile. "Heh...glad to hear that. Let's go eat some breakfast. We've got some sights to see today." said Apple Sauce; he began to leave Applejack's room for the kitchen. Applejack followed her uncle into the kitchen to enjoy large portions of breakfast prepared by Apple Tang. Like always, the food wasn't finished since there was so much of it. To Apple Tang's dis-pleasure, the leftovers had to be discarded. Apple Tang couldn't join them because she had her duties at her bakery to attend to. Afterwards, Applejack and Apple Sauce took a tour of Manehatten and began their sight-seeing. Applejack was filled with a sense of wonder as she looked on at the many landmarks and buildings. he two even went into the Museum of Natural History and Applejack was amazed at the many exhibits that showcased events from the past. Even seeing the dinosaur exhibit was a blast for her. After hours of walking and sight-seeing, Applejack and Apple Sauce decided to stop and rest at the Central Park. Applejack was quite tired from all the excitement and awe-inspiring sights she witnessed and waited for Apple Sauce to buy the Hot Carrots from the local sale-pony. Applejack sat underneath the shade of one of the trees in the park and enjoyed it. As she tried to take in the sight of the city again, she couldn't help still feel overwhelmed by it. The sounds of countless voices converging at once was ear-splitting. Apple Sauce then came back with the Hot Carrots for lunch and sat next to her underneath the tree. "So Applejack, how do you feel? You getting used to the city at all?" he asked; presenting one of the Hot Carrots to her. Applejack remained silent for a moment, feeling unsure about how she felt about the city even after all she has seen. "I mean...we can head back if you're tired. We can take it easy for the rest of the day if you want." said Apple Sauce; he began to eat his Hot Carrot. "Uh...I'm fine! I'm just a little tired right now! Just a few minutes rest will do me some good!" Applejack panicked in her answer; she then quickly began to eat her Hot Carrot, hoping to avoid the topic. Despite her efforts, Apple Sauce noticed her odd behavior easily. Though, he kept to himself so that the two could continue to enjoy the rest of their day. The two continued their day without any interruptions and after seeing a couple more landmarks, they then arrive at a school nearby Apple Sauce's apartment. It was a school that was much larger than the one back in Ponyville as it was made with bricks, was two-story, and had a bell at the top of it. "This is the school you'll be going to, Applejack. The teachers are very nice and the fillies have all kinds of fun here. And it's nearby so you don't have to walk to far. I hope you'll like it." said Apple Sauce; he was keeping a close eye on Applejack, knowing that she has been acting rather down since she got to the city. "It looks...nice! I'm sure I'll have lots of...fun here!" Applejack then let's out a nervous laugh after her reply; she seemed rather tense. Apple Sauce knew there was something wrong, considering how obvious Applejack was making it. Whether it was intentional or not is difficult to say. Apple Sauce then looked at the clock under the bell and noticed that it was 5:42 pm. It was rather late in the afternoon. "Heh...guess it's gotten pretty late right now. We might as well head home. We don't want to keep Apple Tang waiting." Apple Sauce began to make his way back to his apartment. "Alright!" said Applejack as she quickly followed her uncle back. They got back home to Apple Wood making more baked foods like always. "Thank Celestia you two got back home safely! I made you both some food in case you both were hungry! I even got extra from the bakery! Help yourselves...!" Apple Tang was hard at cooking again as she piled on so much food on the dinner table. Applejack, for once, was not looking forward to dinner. She snuck passed Apple Wood while she was distracted by her cooking and went into her room. "Smart move, Applejack." thought Apple Sauce; he sat down at the dinner and began to eat whatever he could to appease his rather excited wife. Applejack sat down on her bed to rest after a long day of exploring the city. Even after seeing so much of it, she couldn't help but feel homesick. She then looked out through her window and could see the outside of the city. The hills covered with grass and a few trees that she could see. It reminded her so much of the apple orchard she used to play in with Big Mac and Granny Smith. She then heard a knocking on her door, "Come in...!" It was Apple Tang who zipped through the door. "Applejack, how did you enjoy your day in Manehatten?! Did you like it?! Was it fun?! Did you see all the sights?! Tell me...!" she asked; pulling up a seat for herself. Applejack had to take a moment to process all these questions that came at her in such a quickly spoken sentence. "I...uh...had fun. Uncle Apple Sauce showed me a lot of things like the museum, the school I'll be going to, and even the park." She then readied for any more fast-paced sentences that would come out of her hyperactive aunt's mouth. "Oh, well that's great! Do you feel like you can live here now?! Me and Apple Sauce have been wondering about how you feel about living here...!" asked Apple Tang; she gave another quickly spoken sentence. Applejack was able to catch it this time, but she then fell silent. "Applejack...?" Apple Tang noticed Applejack's lack of positive energy and was concerned. "Aunt Apple Tang, am I...supposed to stay here...with you and Uncle Apple Sauce?" Applejack's voice sounded a bit shaky as she was trying to say those words; feeling scared at what her aunt would say. "Oh...um...well, I don't know. Only your uncle and father talked about it. I was actually really happy to have you live with us. Though...if you want to. You will have to talk with your uncle about it." Apple Tang figured Applejack was still anxious about living in such a different location and went with it. "Ok.... I'll talk to uncle Apple Sauce about it." said Applejack; she then decided to lie in bed after she finished talking. "Well...dinner will be waiting for you when you're ready to come out. I'll see you later, Applejack." Apple Tang then left Applejack's room without another word, closing the door. Applejack was rather tired after a long day's exploration and closed her eyes for a couple of hours. When she opened her eyes, it was 7:22 pm.; it was nearing the sunset. Applejack got out of bed with a yawn, walked out of her room, then saw Apple Sauce reading a book alone in the living room. "Hey sleepy head. Hope you're feeling a little better now that you've rested up." Apple Sauce noticed Applejack walking into the room, taking his attention away from his book. "I...uh...feel fine now." She then noticed that Apple Tang was not in the kitchen. "Where is Aunt Apple Tang...?" She asked, feeling concerned after their conversation from earlier. "Oh, she's at her evening book club. She started one with her old high school friends a year ago and goes to it once a week. She does this all the time...." Apple Sauce then closed his book to pay attention to his cousin. "Oh, ok." said Applejack; she was a bit relieved, knowing that what she said earlier didn't break any hearts. "She told me about what you said earlier.... It had her rather frazzled." said Apple Sauce; he sounded rather concerned for his wife. Applejack then froze in terror as her fears then came crashing down on her shoulders. "Honestly, I've never seen my wife like that. She was always upbeat and cheerful. But before she left she sounded like she was trying to hide something. Guess I'm just good at noticing when something is wrong." Apple Sauce kept a cool head as he spoke his words. Applejack then sat down on her back legs and began to tremble in fear and guilt; she felt like something was squeezing her throat. Apple Sauce then looked at Applejack with serious eyes, "Applejack, tell me how you really feel. And be honest about it." Apple Sauce wanted the truth and nothing else. Applejack then took a deep breath to calm herself down so she could give a straight answer. "I...I don't like it here. I know we just had a tour of this place and I enjoyed it. But...." She was having a hard time speaking her mind. "Take you time, Applejack. We have all night." said Apple Sauce; he was willing to listen. "I really appreciate all that you two have done for me. You and Aunt Apple Tang have been so nice to me and I feel safe around you both. But whenever we go outside into the city, I feel...like I'm lost and afraid. I don't know if I can stay here." Applejack wasn't confident in herself in living in such a place full of loud sounds and so many unfamiliar faces. Apple Sauce then took a deep sigh, almost like he expected this conversation would happen. "Applejack, I knew you have been acting weird ever since you got off the train. To be honest, Apple Tang and I were happy to have you living with us. Made us feel like we had our own child. But right now...well, I'm not so sure." Apple Sauce felt a little heavy as he let those words leave his lips. "I'm...I'm sorry. I just...." Applejack didn't know what to say with all that was happening right now. "Hey, I get it. You want to go back to Ponyville. And believe me, I think you should. But you see, your dad wants you to stay with us because he feels that you need actual parental figures than just your granny and big brother. Understand?" Apple Sauce explained why Applejack was there to begin with, but that was only half of the problem solved. "Uncle Apple Sauce, am I not allowed to go back to Ponyville...?" Applejack sounded almost desperate when she asked that question. Apple Sauce was silent for a moment, because that was the plan he and Apple Core made prior to this day. He smiled, "Well, given the circumstance, I think maybe going back to Ponyville would be even better for you." Applejack then felt great relief and joy when she heard her uncle say those words. She was just about ready to make her decision until her uncle then stood up from his seat. "But before you say anything, let me make this clear. Right now, you got two choices: Stay here or Go back. You can stay here with us and try to stick it out. Maybe you can find something to like about this place if you just try. Or you can leave and go back to Ponyville where you'll be happier. Keep in mind, you could be throwing away a chance of a lifetime. Just saying...." Apple Sauce wasn't going to Applejack's choice be easy, considering why she was there in the first place. Applejack then sat back down after hearing all that was said. "I hate to drop this on you, but this is one of those life choices you need to make. Wish it wasn't this early though.... You only get one choice, so make this one count." Apple Sauce then made his way to the kitchen. "I'm gonna go eat the food that was left over from lunch. You coming...?" Applejack had a lot on her mind after their conversation. She thought it was an easy decision to make after given the choice to go home, but now it just became difficult. Like her uncle said, if she tried hard enough, she could come to like living in the city and maybe make new friends at the school. Or she could go back and enjoy living in Ponyville on the apple farm with Granny Smith and Big Mac. This became a decision that could very well decide her path in life and she was having a hard time deciding. About an hour went by and Apple Tang finally returned from her book club, being the happy-go-lucky mare she is now. "I'm back...! I hope I didn't keep you two waiting!" she called; she sounded like she was singing at an opera. "Hey Apple Tang, how was it? Your book club, I mean." asked Apple Sauce; he and Applejack just finished off the food and they were very full. "It was fun! We talked about a book titled, "Taxis and You."! It talked about the history of how taxis were made in Manehatten and how you can get a ride from them!" Apple Tang then placed her coat and book on the living room couch and stepped into the kitchen. Applejack then gave an exasperated sigh since she read the book of taxis earlier. "Heh...yeah, I know. It's a pretty boring book." said Apple Sauce. "Did you two already eat?! Now I have to cook for myself...! No fair!" said Apple Tang; she became dis-pleased from cooking for just herself. "Sorry honey, we're both full. Guess it's just 'dinner for one' this time." said Apple Sauce; he and Applejack were too full to eat. "Mmmmmmmm!" Apple Tang's cheeks were pink from the dis-pleasure. After they shared some stories, had some laughs, the three then went to bed for the night. Apple Sauce and Apple Tang were both fast asleep, except for Applejack. She had a two hour nap earlier and her eyes wouldn't shut. All she did was just look out at the lights of the city, trying to make the big decision of her life. Stay or Leave? That was the big question. No matter how hard Applejack thought, she still couldn't make a clear decision. She repeatedly looked at the picture frame of her granny and big brother, hoping that it would convince her that going back was the right choice. But she then remembered that her uncle and aunt have been so kind and caring to her from the moment she got off the train. With her mind spinning faster than a top, she then fell onto her bed and just stopped thinking about it. She was caught between two families that deeply cared for her and it was difficult to choose between them. Applejack just looked at the ceiling of her room, trying to figure out what the answer to this problem. The sounds of the city echoed loud enough for Applejack to listen to. None of it was familiar to her. All she could remember was the sound of crickets chirping in the forest at night. The rooster announcing the rise of a new morning. And the birds singing from their nests. The image of the farm was clear in Applejack's mind and the memories of all the work she does with her granny and big brother were just as clear. Suddenly, she then heard a knocking on her door and she then opened her eyes to a bright sunny morning. "Time to wake up, Applejack...! It's Tuesday morning and we have some friends coming over!" called Apple Tang; she bursts through the door with a big smile on her face. Apparently, Applejack was asleep the entire time without her even noticing. "My friends from my book club are coming over and they all want to meet you! I'm going to prepare some food for them before they get here! Go and wash up before they do!" said Apple Tang; she then bolted into the kitchen to prepare for her friends' arrival. Applejack then made a sigh and then went into the bathroom to wash up and look good for the guests. Afterwards, she then went to the kitchen to see Apple Sauce drinking a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. "I hope you slept well, Applejack. Hope our talk didn't keep you up...." Apple Sauce was a little worried that what he said yesterday had a negative affect on his cousin. "I'm alright, Uncle Apple Sauce. I slept like a log." Applejack then began to eat some of the food Apple Tang prepared for breakfast before getting the food for the gathering prepared. Apple Sauce was a bit relieved to see Applejack calm. He then got up from his seat after finishing his coffee and began to make his way out the door. "Where are you going?" asked Applejack; she had her mouth full as she asked the question. "I got some things to do. I won't take long. You stay here and help your aunt get everything ready. See ya." Apple Sauce then left after taking his coat and shutting the door behind him. Applejack then felt a chill run down her spine when Apple Tang got right next to her. "Applejack, I'm so glad you're here to help me! I can now show you how to bake all kinds of stuff! And your mane could use a little bit of work! I know this is more your style, but maybe it could use a few touches!" Apple Tang was ready to get to work and Applejack just became caught in her web. Applejack was then subjected to learning how to cook and bake large amounts of food all at once and then she got her mane done all fancy and over-the-top. After that, the members of Apple Tang's book club arrived and they were all happy to see Applejack. "Welcome everypony...! I have just finished making lunch and I hope you're all hungry!" She then stepped next to Applejack. "This is my cousin Applejack and she will now be joining us for our little gathering!" Applejack was so nervous about meeting all these strangers that she could hardly get a word out. "Uh...um...hello." The other mares then gathered around Applejack and began to smother her. They kept saying things like "She's so cute!" or asking questions like "How old are you, dear?!" Applejack felt overwhelmed before, but this was ridiculous. After all that attention, the mares and Apple Tang all sat at the dinner table and began talking about all kinds of things like their personal lives, the books they have been reading, and other things that Applejack didn't know about. As they were distracted, Applejack fled the kitchen and slipped into her room to avoid any more uncomfortable amounts of attention from the mares. Applejack then made a huge sigh of relief as she sat in the safety of her room. Naturally, this incident would have instantly made up her mind on what to do, but she then realized that the mares were just being friendly, so she couldn't really fault them for that. With all this in mind, it only made deciding that much harder for her. She then let's down her mane and looked out the window again to look at the hills and trees. That was really all she could do right now and she felt helpless. She looked at the picture frame again and suddenly, she then began to cry. This decision was so hard on her that finally broke down in tears. "I guess...you're not happy here, are you?" Apple Sauce stood right behind Applejack, as if he just appeared out of nowhere. "Sorry to barge in like this, but your door was wide open." Applejack then ran at her uncle and hugged him tight, crying her eyes out. "I hate this...! I don't know what to do! I want to go back home, but I don't want to hurt you two!" Applejack couldn't keep herself calm with all the frustrations crashing down on her. Apple Sauce was so surprised that his reaction was too slow. He then made a gentle smile on his face. "Heh...it's funny. Your dad said the exact same thing when he was your age. You're just like him in almost every way." Apple Sauce chuckled at how nostalgic he felt after hearing those words. Applejack stopped crying for a moment and looked up at her uncle's smile. "I know this is very hard on you. I wish I didn't have to do this to you when you're so young. But right now, I'm really starting to regret my choice of words." Apple Sauce then embraced Applejack in hopes of comforting her. "I'm sorry, Applejack. But I can't make this decision for you. I know it's hard, and trust me, it is. But if you're honest with yourself, and figure out what is important for you, then your decision is set. After all, it's your life and you call the shots. Understand?" Applejack didn't like having to hear those words, but she knew that Apple Sauce was right. She brushed her tears from her eyes and nodded. "Alright then.... Listen, I hate to do this to you, but I'm going to give you until the end of the day to make your decision. Right now, your dad is making plans for a school transfer before Spring Break ends. So you better make this decision before the day is done. Understand?" Apple Sauce wanted this to end for Applejack's sake as soon as possible. He then left Applejack's room without another word to join up with the mares and their little gathering. Applejack was left with a serious predicament since she has only this one day to make a decision. Coupled with the fact that her father was about to make a school transfer from Ponyville to Manehatten. Applejack was panicking as she was still running back and forth between deciding. "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that you got something from Sweet Apple Acres. Check it out." said Apple Sauce; he then placed a basket full of apples and an envelope tied to it's handle. Applejack then stopped panicking as she looked at the basket with red, green, and yellow apples beautifully arranged in the basket. It had the smell of the farm that Applejack was so familiar with. She then looked at the envelope and it was from Granny Smith and Big Mac. She quickly opened it and read it carefully.
"Dear Applejcak,
I'm sure you're feeling a little homesick right now and you probably want to come back to the old farm. It reminds me of how my son, Apple Core, was like when he was your age. Guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree after all. Big Mac and I miss you dearly. But whatever you want to do, we'll be behind you. Big Mac agrees. Just remember that this farm will always be your home and that you can always come back to it.
Love, Granny Smith and Big Mac."
Applejack finished the letter and she was trembling with joy. Apple Sauce watched as his cousin just sat there reading the letter. "Uncle...." Applejack stuttered as she was on the edge of crying again. "Made your decision, Applejack?" Apple Sauce smiled with relief. Applejack nodded. "I want to go back." Applejack's mind was made up and she was not taking it back. "Alright, then I guess these tickets I bought at the train station aren't gonna be a waste after all. I'll be escorting you personally." Apple Sauce had a couple of train tickets in his coat pocket that granted passage to Ponyville. Applejack then hugged Apple Sauce again out of joy. "I love you, Uncle Apple Sauce." Apple Sauce chuckled. "Yeah, I know." They both shared a loving hug. "But...won't dad be angry with you...?" Applejack was concerned for her uncle. "Heh...don't worry about him. I'll handle your dad. You made your decision and I'm behind you all the way. We still got time before the train arrives, so we better break the news to your aunt." said Apple Sauce; he began to head into the kitchen to do so. Applejack then became scared at how her aunt would react to her decision. Later that day, Applejack and Apple Sauce were at the train station and were waiting for the train to arrive. "I'm glad we got your aunt to let go of you so we could get here. We almost missed the train." said Apple Sauce; he was pretty nervous about missing the train. Turns out Apple Tang didn't really take the news well and embraced Applejack so much that she didn't want to let go. "I'm really sorry about this, uncle. Will she be alright?" Applejack was worried for her aunt. "Oh, don't worry about her. Give her a few buckets of ice cream and she'll be back to her old self soon. Right now, what's important is getting you back to where you belong." Apple Sauce wasn't going back on his word. Finally, they then heard the sound of the train approaching. "Here it comes." Apple Sauce was relieved that they didn't miss the train thanks to Apple Tang's drama show. The train arrived on schedule and the two got on board. Applejack was so happy to be going back to the place she knew she belonged to. After some passengers left the train and some passengers boarded the train, it was time to go. "ALL ABOARD!!! ALL ABOARD!!!" The conductor made his call and the train then made its toot. The doors closed and the train had finally began to leave the station. It was going to take a little while since the train had to make a couple of stops before reaching Ponyville. After the train reached Rainbow Falls, Applejack never felt so happy before. Apple Sauce was happy to see that smile on his cousin's face again. When they just reached Apploosa, Applejack knew they were only a few miles away from Ponyville and she was shaking from excitement. After the train left Apploosa, Apple Sauce then made a sigh of relief. "You know, Applejack, if you're ever in Manehatten, you can always come and visit me and your aunt. Might make her happy." Applejack was surprised to hear that, despite being so close to home. "Just remember...that you have a home in Manehatten too. And we'll be there to welcome you with open hooves. Alright?" Apple Sauce gave a wink of assurance to Applejack. Applejack smiled and then hugged her uncle. "Alright. Thank you." Applejack was relieved to know that her uncle was willing to let her go and do what she felt was necessary. At last, the train stops at Ponyville and Applejack was the first to step off. She felt like she was revived as soon as she took in the fresh, clean air of the place she called home. "C'mon, Uncle Apple Sauce...! Let's go! I want to surprise Granny Smith and Big Mac!" Applejack was bucking and bouncing like a pebble on a water's surface. "You go on ahead. I'll be right behind you." said Apple Sauce; he decided to take things slow before heading to Sweet Apple Acres. "Alright...! Yeehaw!" Applejack then dashed off back to Sweet Apple Acres without stopping. Apple Sauce then began to look around the small town and felt nothing but nostalgia. "Heh...I forgot how small this place is." Apple Sauce chuckled as he made his way passed the houses and then to the old farm. Applejack finally arrived at Sweet Apple Acres and then took a deep breath. "GRANNY SMITH!!! BIG MAC!!! I'M HOME!!!" She let's out a loud call to Granny Smith and Big Mac and it was loud enough to wake the dead. Granny Smith and Big Mac stepped out of the farm to find out what made the ruckus and they then see Applejack happily standing at the front of the farm entrance. "Applejack...!" Big Mac ran straight at Applejack with joy. "Eh...? Applejack?! Is that you?! I can barely see ya!" asked Granny Smith; her age has not been too kind on her eyesight. "Yes, I'm home, Granny Smith! Uncle Apple Sauce brought me back home just now! There he is...!" Applejack pointed at Apple Sauce slowly making his way to the farm. "Heh...the old farm is still standing. Good times." Apple Sauce was glad to see the old farm again. "I'm so happy you're back, Applejack! We've missed you so much!" said Granny Smith; she and Big Mac hugged Applejack with joy. "Eeyup!" Big Mac agreed. "I missed you too...!" Applejack was so happy to be back. What they didn't know was that Applejack's flank then began to sparkle and three red apples appeared. It was her Cutie Mark and it symbolized not only Applejack's love for Sweet Apple Acres, but the strong bonds she has with her family. Apple Sauce was the only one that noticed and was happy to know that Applejack was going to be alright. "By the way, Applejack, you came just in time for some good news." Granny Smith and Big Mac both chuckled to see Applejack's reaction. "Good news...? What good news?" Applejack was very curious. Apple Sauce just got to them. "What's up...? Something going on?" Granny Smith then whispered to Applejack's ear. "I HAVE A BABY SISTER?!!" Applejack jumped back in shock. "Wait...WHAT?!" Apple Sauce was just as shocked. They were not expecting that....
