The big day, erm, night //-------------------------------------------------------// 1. The big day, erm, night OMG! A DISCLAIMER!! Sorry boy and girls, but I don't own The princesses or the mane six. I wish I did. But I don't. However, I do own any OCs that are in this fic so that's a plus. NOW ON TO THE STORY!! Princess Luna's School of Magic Chapter one The big day, erm, night Luna paced back and forth, each hoof impact echoing through the cool air of the bland hall that led back stage. Her sparkling midnight blue mane flowed in an eternal, imaginary breeze covering half of her excited expression. The hallway wasn't meant for show, so it wasn't overly decorated. It was, however very clean. Mostly because the school still needed to make it presentable for those who performed on or just used the stage. Today is the big day, she thought to herself. After months of planning, recruitment and hard work it is finally time. The back stage door opened and Celestia entered. Her summer-colored mane billowed in an invisible wind while she wore a warm smile on her face. "It's time, Lulu." She said gently. The midnight alicorn gave her sister an unsure look. Celestia knew that look from anywhere and she wasn't going to let it stay for long. "Don't be nervous. I know it has been a long time but I trust you can do this. Besides I have asked my faithful student, Twilight Sparkle, to assist you. Everything will be fine." She gave her little sister a reassuring smile. "Are you sure, Tia?" "Positive." She gave her little sister another encouraging look, however one that wasn't returned as the younger alicorn's nervous expression returned. "I said don't worry. You remember the speech you gave at your first school? There is no way it could possibly be worse than that." They both thought back to that time and shuddered. The kids didn't stop rioting until at least the third day. "You have a point." They both shared a laugh. "If it helps, I'll be right here beside you." Celestia told her sister. She put a hoof on her shoulder reassuringly. "Now go; you can't keep them waiting forever." Luna sighed and turned her gaze to the ground. "I guess you're right." She looked up at her sister and hugged her. "Thanks, Tia, you have always known what to say." "You're welcome Lulu." They ended their hug then approached the door, and opened it, entering a night themed room. Since the classes would take place in the evening, the ceiling of the main hall was open, to allow the moon's light to shine into the hall. In addition, it was magically enchanted so it still worked as a ceiling, keeping the elements out. The room's color scheme consisted of shades of blue and purple. The room was set up like your normal auditorium complete with its very own stage, on which Luna now stood. The air was clean, and inviting. It was all designed to give a feeling of peace and knowledge. Of course most of which was lost on the three hundred excited colts and fillies standing before Luna right now. To her right was Twilight Sparkle, and her friends; Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy. Each had a hoof in the creation of this school. Rarity designed the decor. Applejack helped choose the menus for the cafeteria. Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie helped with the recruitment of nurses and councilors. Rainbow Dash designed the physical exercises. Finally Twilight Sparkle was head organizer over every aspect of the process. The princess couldn't thank them enough for all their hard work. To her left was a young unicorn filly, with a midnight blue coat, and a dark purple mane that was beautifully combed and hung over half her face. Her eyes were a dark blue that sparkled at the sight of her beloved personal instructor. She was neither the biggest, or the smallest of fillies. Even though she was not small in size, she sure acted like she was. The only pony she knew that was shyer than her was Fluttershy. She was embarrassed by her timidness, but Luna found it rather cute. She could still remember the day she hoof-picked her... The midnight blue alicorn stood in the back of the room, next to the other examiners. She wore a hint of dissatisfaction on her face. Almost every candidate had passed, but none of them seemed right to be her personal student. Not only that, this was the last day of selection. The examiners called for the next candidate. A small unicorn filly with a midnight blue coat, and a dark purple mane, cautiously poked her head through the door. After a minute of trying to decide whether she should enter or not, she slowly made her way to the center of the room. Her light hoof steps were only audible due to the dead silence that blanketed the room. The air was uncomfortably cold, causing the innocent little filly to shiver a little. Luna felt sorry for the shy filly. The room was designed to be unnerving, and intimidating. The reason being, that the examiners wanted to see how well the student performs under pressure. However, she thought they went a bit overboard with the "dark room with single spotlight" thing. The little filly looked frightened to death. "Please state your name." the examiner said in an authoritative voice. The midnight blue filly hesitated a little bit, before finally stammering out. "S-Silent Night." Her voice was soft and gentle, with some timidness thrown in the mix. The princess noticed that there were no parents in the room. Were they unable to make it? Maybe they did not feel the need to attend? She pondered this as the candidate stood nervously and the examiners wrote something down, probably to make her feel even more nervous. For this exam one could do one of two things; hatch a dragon egg, or cast an impressive spell. What interested Luna was that this midnight blue filly was the only one who signed for the latter, of those that had signed up that day. In fact very few students overall chose the spell. "Please begin." the examiners told her. She nodded her head bashfully, and tried her best to collect her already shattered confidence. She muttered to herself little words of encouragement and took deep breaths. For a moment there the alicorn thought she would be too nervous to do anything, until one of the examiners cleared his throat as a way of saying "hurry up." This caused her to jump a little. After composing herself again, she closed her eyes and began repeating something quietly over and over again. After she collected what she could of her confidence, she began to concentrate. A soft glow surrounded her horn, as she concentrated purely on the completion of this spell. The glow grew brighter and brighter, as sweat beaded on her forehead. Suddenly an explosion erupted from her horn, flinging her backwards. She slammed into the wall, and slid down to the floor with an audible thud. Luna felt sadness wash over her. This was usually the point where the candidate just lays there until she is helped out of the room. The alicorn had had high hopes for her. She waited for the medical ponies to be called in. However something entirely different happened. The small filly slowly rose to her hooves, and began to concentrate. She wasn't giving up. She was trying again. Curiosity, and hope, filled the Midnight blue observer. One the examiners opened their mouth to speak, but the princess of the night raised her hoof to silence him. She wanted to see what happens. The candidate concentrated harder this time, allowing her will to succeed to fuel her. The light around her horn grew brighter and brighter. Luna watched intently, as the timid filly, poured all her heart and soul into this single spell as if the world would be doomed should she fail. The shimmering around her horn continued to grow brighter, and she continued to strain herself more to the point the Night Princess thought she might pass out. Then the glow around her horn grew unbelievably bright and a flash erupted from her horn, followed by the emergence a starry night sky, whose darkness spread to blanket the room. Stars sprinkled in different spots, even a few shooting stars streaked across the space. The examiners were dumb-struck. Luna was surprised herself. This was a highly advanced illusion spell, which required a huge amount of concentration and control. This was difficult for even an skilled unicorn. Yet this filly just performed it only on her second attempt. This impressed, nay amazed, the princess of the night greatly. At that moment she knew that this shy little filly was the perfect candidate to be her personal student. She stepped forward with a warm smile on her face. "Silent Night, that is your name correct?" The shocked filly snapped out of her wonderment, and nodded her head nervously. "Congratulations I have chosen you to be my personal student, at my school of magic." Luna's voice was gentle, complimentary. Silent Night's eyes went wide with surprise, as she took in the news given to her. Which made Luna smile inside; she always loved the looks of joy that ponies gave her when she delivered good news. "I'll give you time to pack your things, when will you be ready?" she asked gently. Silent Night turned her gaze to the ground as a sad expression spread across her face. The alicorn frowned. Before she could ask if everything was okay, the filly responded. "Umm, well all my things are already collected. If that's okay with you." Silent Night said softly as she pointed a hoof towards a small bag that leaned on the wall. Luna gave her a slightly confused look. "Is that all you are bringing?" she inquired. Silent Night looked away and turned red, then spoke very quietly. "That's all I have..." Realization hit the midnight blue princess. How could she not have seen it before? No parents, small bag, determination to succeed, it all made sense now. She was a thousand years old, she should have known. Silent Night was an orphan. She quietly reprimanded herself for forcing this poor filly into such an awkward situation. Then a warm smile spread across her face, for she knew exactly how to make it up. "Okay Silent Night. You may stay with me." The surprise combined with the joy and excitement on her face was one of the most adorable and joyous things she had seen in her life. Luna looked over the excited fillies and colts, and took a deep breath. You can do this. She thought to herself. She cleared her throat, and the hall silenced itself. The moon shone brightly through the ceiling, giving the Princess of the night a shimmering effect. "Welcome colts and fillies to my school of magic." That was followed by a light cheer. Luna waited for the cheers to subside, then continued. "You are the first students to walk these halls, and it is my hope that you all will become exceptional users of magic. There has been much work put into making this into reality. So please try your best."She paused for a moment, to allow herself a breath, then spoke again. "The classes will take place at night allowing time for sleep and playtime during the day. Sorry if you do not like this schedule, but it is the only way to fit it in my schedule." A few grumbles were heard, mostly because most of the students there didn't dare to complain. She nickered inside. Children never failed to amuse her. "Tonight you will be given time to find your rooms, meet others, and make friends, as Pinkie Pie has generously offered to throw us a party to celebrate the formation of this school (well actually she made it clear that she was going to do it either way). So please enjoy yourselves, and classes start at 7pm. Don't be late my little ponies." That was followed by cheers, as the midnight blue alicorn smiled again and stepped back to allow Pinkie to take the stage. "Okay everypony!! Time to PAR-TAY!!" Pinkie seemed to brim with energy, as always, and began to play some loud music. The room exploded into colts and fillies dancing, and playing party games. Luna quietly slipped out with Silent Night. Being that the Night Princess had duties to perform, and the shy filly, not being one for parties, wanted to tag along. The faithful student was perfectly happy being with her teacher. She spent every moment she could with the princess, and when she wasn't with the midnight blue alicorn, she was faithfully studying or exploring the Royal Canterlot Palace. Not only that, she loved to make her teacher proud. Shining Armor and Cadence enjoyed seeing her wandering the halls of the palace, exploring and trying to find new ways to learn. Silent is very curious in nature. At times her curiosity was so great it overcame her timidness. The best time was when she first met Shining armor...... The investigative little filly known as Silent Night, was exploring her new home. Normally she was shy, but her curiosity overwhelmed her as she snooped around, and in, the different halls and rooms. She slowly opened a door into a grand hall that lead to a huge door, and a big balcony. She then cautiously entered the hall, staring up at the decor with wonderment. The room had a royal, and grand feel to it. It was also lavishly decorated, as well featured a breath-taking view of the city of Canterlot from the balcony While distracted by the decorations of the hall,  she bumped into what felt like a steel wall, and fell back on her rump. She looked up in confusion to see a white unicorn stallion with a moderate cerulean, and dark phthalo blue mane. His eyes were a brilliant sapphire blue, and he wore purple armor. She immediately hid behind the door, scared by the sudden appearance of the rather large stallion. "Wow. Celestia was right, you are very shy. Why don't you come out, I'm not going to hurt you." The stallion said in a gentle voice. Silent slowly peeked her head out at the stallion, who was smiling amiably. In his mind he was thinking Cadence would be a lot better at this than he. Seeing that she was not going to move from behind the door, he tried saying something different. "How about a name? Mine is Shining Armor, Captain of the royal guard." Silent thought for a minute, then decided it would be harmless to tell him her name. After all, he had given his. "S-Silent Night." She replied softly and quietly. The royal guards scared her. How they stood completely still, with that overly serious look on their face. But something about this one seemed different. He seemed more pony than the others. She slowly came out to inspect this "Shining Armor". He watched on in interest, as she came out from behind the door and started examining every part of his body. Curiosity shone in her eyes. First she touched his leg, and jumped back expecting a response. After the non-existent reaction she got from that little test, she started circling Shining taking in every detail. How he stands, how he is dressed,  even how he styled his mane and tail. He nickered when she knocked on his armor and jumped at the metallic sound it made. Cadence will love her, I'm sure. Just look at how adorable she is. The white stallion thought to himself, as she finished her inspection of him. At that moment, the large door opened, causing Silent Night to jump and hide behind Shining Armor, who smiled and greeted the newcomer saying, "Hello Cadence! I'm so happy you could show up." "Me too, I can't wait to meet Princess Luna's new student," The newcomer replied as she greeted the stallion with a hug. "Well she is right behind me. You might want to be careful though she is pretty shy." He motioned to the timid little filly peeking out from behind him. Once again curiosity overtook Silent Night, as she studied the pink alicorn with the mane that consisted of dark violet, moderate rose, and pale gold streaks. What also interested her, was that her cutie mark was of a teal heart within a gold lace. What does it mean? The little filly wondered, with a sparkle of inquiry in her eyes. The one referred to as "Cadence" must have noticed because she smiled warmly at the filly and said. "It means my special talent is love." Silent pondered that for a moment, with a really cute thoughtful look on her face. She had never known of a pony whose special talent was an emotion before. The pink alicorn gestured at the filly's own cutie mark. "What about yours? It's beautiful." Silent looked at her own cutie mark. It was of a night sky. The stars, the moon, galaxies, planets, the whole bit, right there on her flank. Some have told her, that it was beautiful, or that it almost seemed to be real, even that the celestial bodies in it seemed to shimmer. But the problem was, she didn't have the slightest clue to it's meaning. "I don't know." Her voice was quiet. The smile that Cadence gave her wasn't one of confusion, nor was it one of ridicule. It was one of understanding. "My name Is Princess Mi Amore Cadenza." She laughed, when Silent started trying to pronounce her name, and told her, "But you can just call me Cadence." The midnight blue filly smiled. "My name is Silent Night." She said in reply. "Nice to meet you Silent Night." Silent grinned. Well you could call it a grin, but due to her character, it was kind of weak. Silent Night didn't know why, but she felt safe around this mare, and stallion. She just knew that they could protect her, and would never harm her. That day she, Shining Armor, and Cadence all shared a pleasant, and quite interesting, picnic on the balcony of the great hall. Everyday since, Cadence, Shining Armor, or both, would come to visit the small filly known as Silent Night. Luna stood on the balcony overlooking Canterlot, with Silent Night by her side watching her intently. The sounds of the party could be heard through the double doors that remained closed behind the duo. She had other things to attend to, but she just wanted have a moment of rest before she did them. As a princess, she has many duties. One of them, was organizing the night Pegasai that oversaw ponys' dreams to make sure nothing very traumatic happens in them. Another was signing request forms regarding the weather. Her foremost duty was indeed to coordinate the weather with the pegasi, sending water to where it is needed and withholding it where there is too much. The reason this was her job, was that farmers and towns turn in their agricultural reports at the end of the day. Another responsibility she had, was organizing the night sky. She needs to make sure it is perfect. If the stars were out of place, then sailors and field scientist would get lost and quite possibly die. Not only that, the night sky helps one think. So it is an important job. One that her student loved to watch. "Princess, how do you control the stars?" Curiosity once again sparkled in Silent's eyes. The teacher gave her student a warm smile. "That's a good question Silent." The little filly grinned at the complement. "You see, I'm attuned to a celestial object. The moon. So because I am attuned to the moon, I can control other celestial objects." "Like the stars?" "Yes. But there is a catch. I can only control the ones that aren't already attuned to another." Silent Night tried her best to understand the answer, once again getting that very cute, thoughtful look on her face. Luna loved that look. "So if Celestia wasn't around, you could control the sun. Right?" Wow. This filly is an excellent learner. The umbral alicorn thought. "Exactly. Good job, at this rate you will be as good as Celestia's student in no time." Silent Night beamed. "Thanks Princess Luna." "You're welcome Silent. Would you like to see?" The filly nodded, happily. "Okay watch closely." Luna gave her student a warm smile, then her horn lit up, and the stars in the sky began to move and disappear, then some reappearing. After she finished, the scheduled constellations were in their correct places and a whole new night's sky was displayed before them. Wonderment was displayed all over Silent's face, as the feeling washed over her. She had never seen something so awe-inspiring before. "T-that's amazing." The teacher smiled. Her student showed great interest in the stars. But now she could see it wasn't the stars she was interested in, but the magic behind them. "Thank you Silent Night, I am glad you show interest in the subject." Once again Luna managed to make her beam. They spent the rest of the night talking and performing the Night Princess's royal duties (during which the student watched or tried her best to help with) until Silent Night couldn't stay awake any longer. At the end of the night, the midnight blue princess tucked in the cute, timid, little filly. She had fallen asleep during the night court, while standing right next to her. Thankfully it was the last thing on Luna's list of things to do that Twilight had designed for her. She sighed. Tomorrow night the classes begin. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. She reassured herself. Of course it will, Twilight has made sure all the correct preparations have been made. What could go wrong? //-------------------------------------------------------// 2. Catch, school, and chaos //-------------------------------------------------------// 2. Catch, school, and chaos LOOKIE HERE!! A DISCLAIMER!! I do not own the princesses or the mane six. Hasbro does. The cool thing is though, is that I DO own any OCs in this fic. But you wouldn't steal from me. Would you? Princess Luna's School Of Magic Chapter two Catch, school, and chaos. The night princess's eyes fluttered open to light of the sun shining through her window. She stretched out her wings and yawned. She then looked around the room and spied a sleeping Silent Night, curled up on the foot of her bed. The small filly's chest quietly, and gently, rose and fell with each breath. The moon princess smiled softly, and stroked her beautiful mane gently. Her tiny eyes slowly opened, and she looked up at the alicorn. "Bad dream?" Luna asked gently. She already knew that it was one; this must have been the tenth time she has awoken to find the filly asleep beside her because of a bad dream. But asking showed she cared. The young filly nodded her head. Silent's room was right next to Luna's so she could stay near the princess. But that didn't stop her from wanting to sleep with the alicorn every time she had a bad dream. Not only that, Silent's room was incomplete, so it wasn't that comfortable to sleep in. The night princess's private quarters were very comfortable, and could easily house the two. On the floor, a big crescent moon was depicted, and on the ceiling, a starry night sky. The bed itself was circular and midnight blue colored. Luna looked at the moon shaped clock on the wall. It was six pm. Classes started at seven. She had to raise the moon at six-thirty so she had about thirty minutes to spare. So what should I do with my spare time? She pondered. The midnight blue filly stared up at her teacher's thoughtful look, with curiosity. Lost in thought, Luna didn't notice. "Umm...Princess, what are you thinking about?" The alicorn snapped out of her thoughts and looked back at the small filly, with a gentle smile. "Well I am wondering what I should do with my spare time." She saw no reason to lie to her. "Well, umm... You could play with me... I mean if you wouldn't mind." Her nervousness was highly evident in her voice. It's not every day somepony asks one of the princesses to play with them. A look of surprise appeared on the night princess's face. It faded as it was replaced with a warm smile. Well she is a filly after all... Not only that, I do have the time. "Okay Silent Night, I will play with you." The filly's eyes lit up with a combination of joy and excitement. Luna loved that look. She nickered before following the excited filly out the door.          ~~~~~~~~~~~~ "So how do you play 'catch'?" The alicorn stared at the ball with a confused look on her face. She had never actually "played" with anypony before, because she always had her sister. They had chosen the Royal statue garden to play catch in. It was a beautiful day; even with the sun beginning it's decent. The cool breeze felt nice on the Princess's body. "Ready to learn?" Luna looked up at the unusually energetic filly. "Yes I am Silent Night." That drew another smile from the midnight blue filly. The princess began lifting the ball up with her magic when Silent interrupted her saying, "No! You aren't supposed to use magic. You are supposed to use your hooves." A confused look appeared on Luna's face. She had a strange feeling of déjà vu as she thought of her first nightmare night in Ponyville, where she learned how to play the various games played at the festival. She wondered if Tia had to go through this same thing with Twilight. She'd have to ask her later. She picked up the ball with a hoof. "Okay, now what?" "Now toss it at me, and I have to catch it." "Okay......" She tossed the ball towards Silent, and the filly tried her best to catch it on her head. However, the ball bounced off her face landing on the grass next to her with a small thud. This made a screwed up look appear on her face that caused Luna to chuckle. After shaking off the look, Silent Night picked up the ball and tossed it at her teacher, taking her completely by surprise. The ball bounced off her long horn, as she moved to catch it. It rebounded into the air, hitting her in the face on its way back down. The student started giggling at the resulting look on her mentor's face. She gave her a smile. "Do you think this is funny?" The filly nodded her head, having no idea what she was getting herself into. "Well," The princess began as her horn lit up and she picked up more balls from the basket with her magic," let's see how funny this is." her smile turned into a grin. "Uh-oh" At that moment the mentor began her assault, Silent dodged as many as she could. When the student reached the basket of balls, she picked up a couple of them with her magic. "Your mine now Princess!!" The filly giggled as she flung some balls at Luna, who raised a wing to defend herself from the onslaught of bouncy projectiles, chortling as she did so. As the two fired balls at each other, laughing and having fun while they did so, the stone statue known as Discord frowned inside. Ew, gag for the love of chaos play elsewhere. This is too.. Happy.Discord thought to himself. Twenty-five minutes later the two lay giggling and laughing side-by-side. This was the most fun they both had had in a long time, and they both knew it. Also by the end of it, the entrapped spirit if chaos had mentally thrown up at least twenty times. "Thanks princess.. I had a lot of fun." The student gave her teacher a happy grin, which was completely out of character for her. The teacher gave her student a warm smile. Then somewhere a clock's bell resounded, announcing that somepony was running late. Luna's eyes went wide as the realization hit her. "I'M LATE!!" a certain alicorn's voice cried through the royal palace, causing all the guards to glance up in curiosity. The princess of the night entered, with her student, the great hall as calmly as she could, where the princess of the day waited patiently with hers. It was decided that it was a good time for the two students to meet. The reason they hadn't meet before, was because Twilight was so busy with the organization of the creation of the school, she didn't get the chance. "Sorry I am late sister, I had gotten distracted by my student for while. I guess I had lost track of time." Luna's voice sounded apologetic. However as usual, her sister was understanding. "Catch?" Celestia asked with a knowing smile. Luna laughed, so did her sister, for the alabaster alicorn could easily tell by the joyful look on Silent's face. I guess that answers that question. The midnight blue princess thought to herself. "Twilight Sparkle, this is Silent Night." The white alicorn said in her usual happy, complacent tone. "Hello, Nice to meet you." Twilight added as she extended a hoof out to the filly. However, Silent's usual behavior was back in full swing, and she hid behind Luna. The purple unicorn, got a confused look. Luna gave her a small smile. " Do not worry, she is pretty timid Twilight." Now that the librarian thought about it, she kinda did act like Fluttershy. However judging from the beautiful night sky on her flank (it almost seemed real!), a baby dragon wasn't going to bring her out of her shell. Twilight had to actually work for this one. After a mix of pondering, memories of past experiences with Fluttershy, and calculations, she finally had a plan. "You don't have to be shy around me Silent." She told the filly with a confident smile," I am Shining Armor's sister, after all." This piqued Silent's curiosity once again. She peeked out from her hiding spot, at the purple unicorn. Twilight was about to say something, when the midnight blue alicorn cut her off. "Just humor her, I guarantee you will like this." She even added a warm smile. At that moment, if purple mare had her way, she would have had a paper and pencil to take notes on this interesting behavior. First, Silent slowly made her way towards the bookish mare, with much curiosity about the librarian sparkling in her eyes. She then continued to examine her, much in the same way she did Shining Armor. However, this inspection passed quicker due to her smaller stature, and lack of armor. The one thing the purple unicorn had to admit was that she was being unbelievably cute in her way of doing so. After some more poking and analyzation, the two finally ended up staring at each other. "So.....Umm... Hi." This had to be one of the awkwardest introductions Twilight had ever experienced. But at least the little filly was trying. The two princesses just watched on in amusement, as the two students inexpertly tried their best to start a conversation. "So I noticed your cutie mark, are you interested in astronomy?" The purple mare asked as gently as she could. "Well..... I have always felt a... Um... Connection between me at the stars...... So I guess you could say that." Well at least she is starting to warm up to me. Thought Twilight. "If you like the stars so much, you should come by my house in Ponyville. I have all kinds of astronomical equipment there. You would be able to stargaze all night long with no trouble." That caused Silent Night's face to light up at the thought of being able to spend an entire night in a nice home staring up into the night's sky, taking in all its wonder. "Wow, really?!?"She turned to her mentor," Can I go over to Twilight's house tonight?" Her mentor chuckled and responded saying. "While that would be fun, you have a lesson in basic illusion spells later tonight. Maybe another time." That drew a disappointed look from the little filly, but there was nothing that could change the princess's mind and she knew it. Then the sun princess turned to her counterpart and said, "I believe it is time to raise the moon sister." The moon princess nodded in agreement, and they gave each other a smile. The two turned to their students. "Are you ready Twilight and Silent?" Celestia inquired. The two unicorns nodded their heads. "Watch closely." Luna instructed, and they both obeyed. Years of practice allowed for no words to be needed, for both sisters knew their part. The sun began it's decent, and the moon it's ascent. Silent watched in wonder, as the two celestial objects moved across the sky. Then at one point, the two were right across from each other, their beams of light mixing together and swirling around. The air was rife with beauty and shades of colors. The sight was near indescribable. Amazement filled the onlookers' eyes. Twilight's mind was frantically searching for words, and Silent just watched in total awe. The midnight blue filly's cutie mark seemed to shimmer in the mixed light. Then two celestial bodies continued on, the colors retreating, almost as if they had simply just said hello to an old friend. The moon rose into the sky and the sun set into the horizon. When they finished the moon was high in the sky, and a beautiful night sky was displayed. "Wow... That was amazing." The unicorn mare uttered. The little midnight blue filly just nodded her head in agreement. The princesses gave them both a smile. "Thank you." Both replied. "Now I believe it is time for you and Luna to go to the school, am I correct?" The day princess's voice was warm and gentle as ever. Silent turned her gaze down in disappointment, as she nodded her head slowly. "Do not worry Silent Night, I'm sure Twilight will be able to let you stay over at some other time." The night princess reassured her student, as the purple unicorn nodded her head in agreement. It didn't do too much to lighten her mood, but it was enough to make a visible difference on the midnight blue filly's face. After saying their goodbyes, the pair left Celestia, and her pupil, then headed for the school. The two trotted through the school's courtyard, where many colts and fillies could be seen talking while walking to their classes. The courtyard looked kind of like something Luna had seen from P.K Rolling's, Harry Trotter. A big stone yard, with trees along the sides, and benches and pillars at different intervals. It was colored according to the schools theme, except with a little green to match it up with the vegetation. "Um, excuse me Princess, but why are we in the courtyard?" The little filly asked, with an inquisitive look on her face. "I just thought that we would enjoy a walk through the courtyard, on our way to our spot. Might as well satisfy your curiosity." Silent thought about it, and realized she was right. She WAS curious about the courtyard. In fact she was intrigued by the grey colt with a red messy mane, messing with one of the benches. She got her chance to go find out, when some staff members decided that something had gone wrong and they needed the night princess's help. She approached the colt timidly from behind and asked, "Excuse me, but what are you doing?" The colt waved a hoof back dismissively. "One second, this is gonna be a good one." His voice was a scratchy. It reminded Silent a bit of Rainbow's, when she helped her design the physical exercises. However most of the time was spent talking about how awesome she was and how she was going to be in the Wonderbolts someday. "What's gonna be good?" She noticed the colt's cutie mark of a hammer and screwdriver crossed. "The prank!" He replied. Puzzlement spread across the midnight blue filly's face. "A.... prank? What is that?" The colt froze then turned to her with red eyes filled with surprise. "You seriously don't know what a prank is?" She nodded her head. "That's insane!" He said, throwing his two fore-hooves into the air. "How could you not know what a prank is?!?" His voice was full of disbelief. Silent shrugged. A slightly frusterated look came over his face, as he directed her attention to the device and began working on it. "Okay I'll show you a prank. Here come help me with this." "Umm... Okay." She bashfully looked over his shoulder, to spy a weird contraption strapped under the bench. "What is that?" Silent inquired, once again curiosity overriding her shyness. He gave her a devious smile, before replying. "This," He pointed a hoof at the spring-loaded device, "is one of my greatest pranks: The launching bench." She gave him a look of confusion, which made him face hoof. "When somepony sits on it, the bench will spring up and throw the victim off the bench and onto the ground." He gave her a devilish look. "That doesn't sound very nice." She felt unsure about this. She took another look at the item. "Or safe." she added. He laughed, which confused her. "Don't worry it is perfectly" He waved a hoof for effect which accidentally set off the device which was clearly not correctly calibrated."Safe?" The bench was sent flying across the air straight into a pillar, knocking it over. That caused a domino effect, as the pillars started falling one after the other. "RUN!!!!" the colt yelled, as the bench came back down with the contraption still attached to it. Silent didn't know what else to do, so she followed the colt's lead. The bench landed where they just were with an explosion. Probably caused by the destruction of the device. Soon the whole courtyard was falling apart, debris landing in random points of the space. "I HATE PRANKS!" Silent yelled as the two ran through the carnage to escape. "Why?!? They are harm-" The colt cried as another piece of stone landed nearby causing them to flinch"-less!!" "Obviously not!! Besides what if we get caught?!? My-" she wore a fearful look, as more pillars toppled and crumbled in the background, interrupting her. They reached the door, as more pillars and debris fell behind them with loud thuds, cracks. "We are not gonna get caught!! Even-" He was interrupted by Silent frantically shaking him, fear in her eyes. "Y-you don't understand my personal teacher is going to k-kill me!" Panic filled the midnight blue filly, and it showed. He rolled his eyes. "Look who ever your teacher is, I'm sure she won't kill you. It's not like she is a princess or something. Also besides, like I said, we aren't going to get," He opened the door and his eyes went wide, before them stood Princess Luna and the dean."caught?" They all shared looks of shock. Except Silent Night, who just wore a guilty look on her face. "I-I'm sorry Teacher." Her voice was audible, but soft and shaky. The colt looked at her in even more shock. "Y-your teacher is P-Princess Luna!?!" Silent nodded, as the last pillar landed horizontally behind them with a loud thud. Silent felt angry. Angry that she got tricked. Angry that he got her to do something wrong. Being stuck in a room with him that was magically enchanted to not let them out until they completed their standards didn't help anything. The room was empty save for a couple of blackboards that the two were writing on. He kept turning his gaze over to her, then looking away when she noticed. It didn't matter to her though, she didn't want to talk to him. She just focused on writing "I will not cause total destruction of the school courtyard." over and over again. "Umm... Sorry I got you in trouble." Silent remained silent, as she was still mad at him. "It was just a friendly joke, ya know? I really didn't mean any harm." The midnight blue filly sighed. She couldn't ignore him forever. She gave him a serious look. "How could a bench, launching ponies be 'friendly'?" His eyes grew a bit wide as he gave her a nervous look. "Well, umm.." She jumped at the chance. "Exactly! It was very mean, and I'm not happy." "But pranks aren't meant to be mean. Just for laughs." He hoped it would work, but the midnight blue filly wasn't buying it. One thing that made it hard, was that unlike everypony else, he wanted her approval. He had no idea why, but something about her seemed.... different from all the others. All he knew was, he felt the need to make her forgive him and that was all he needed. Problem was, he had never apologized before. She continued to give him a cold angry stare, with her mane covering one side of her face like it normally did. "If they aren't meant to be bad, then why are we here?!?" He didn't know what to say to that. He never saw it that way. He always thought others thought they were fun. Well maybe that's why everypony hated him. He let out big sigh. Here goes nothing. "Okay. You're right. I'm sorry. It's just... pranks are all I know. Do you forgive me?" Surprise appeared on Silent's face.  He looked so sincere. And sad. He was truly sorry. She gave him a big hug. He started flailing wildly. "Ew!!! Cooties!!" He cried causing her to laugh and release him. "Oh no!! I've been infected!! What do I do!!" He had a panicked look on his face. The unicorn began laughing and giggling her flank off. After brushing off what cooties he could, he sighed then smiled weakly. "So does that mean you forgive me?" She gave him a warm smile, which actually made him feel warm inside. "Yes it does. What is your name?" "My name is Practical Joke. Yours?" Silent didn't know why, but this colt gave her confidence. Which is pretty strange considering she just met him ten minutes ago. "Silent Night. Nice to meet you." (Author's note: Sorry for the wait! I had a lot going on. That's a lie. I actually had a bad case of "not being able to decide which fic you want to work on." I hope you enjoyed it. That includes you Mifloxie and any other people who disliked this fic.) //-------------------------------------------------------// 3. A not so silent night part one //-------------------------------------------------------// 3. A not so silent night part one Princess Luna's School Of Magic Chapter 3 A not so silent night part one The student stood across from her teacher as the instructor demonstrated an illusion spell. "Watch closely my student. I shall demonstrate a basic illusion spell." Silent nodded her head absentmindedly. The princess smiled then her horn glowed and a replica of the midnight blue filly appeared in the empty space on the grass next to a statue of a pony victoriously holding a flag with a star on it. "The key is to visualize what image you're making." Silent seemed to have her mind elsewhere. She couldn't stop thinking about that colt by the name of Practical Joke. He was so...... different from the other students. The foal shook her head clear, she had to focus on learning right now. Not interesting colts. Luna gave her student an amused smile. "Are we back in Equestria, Silent Night?" The midnight blue filly turned red before responding. "Umm, Yes. Do you want me to try it?" Her voice was full of embarrassment and quiet as well. She had never spaced out during a lesson before. The night princess nodded her head. The filly responded by returning the gesture and taking her "concentration" stance. She has this cute way of casting anything above a telekinetic spell. The bashful filly will lower her center mass, and close her eyes with a screwed up look on her face. She then concentrates purely on the execution of the task. So you could understand Luna's nickering when she began performing the spell. A midnight blue glow surrounded her horn, and an image of Luna appeared next to the real one. But it didn't last long. Nevertheless the teacher smiled. The fact that she could do it on her first try, meant that what she lacked in power, she had in control. "Fairly good for your first attempt." She told her student, " Now practice makes perfect so why don't you try making a different image appear?" Silent nodded, then once again resumed her stance. She concentrated, and this time a duplicate of Practical Joke appeared, then faded after a bit longer of a time. Also the filly appeared to be out of breath, as if it was a strain in her. A thought occurred to the regal alicorn as she duly noted this. If she could do such an advanced spell as the one she performed for her exam, then why is my student having difficulty with basic illusion spells? It was a good question indeed for the princess. One that continued to trouble her for she couldn't find the answer. The alicorn pushed it aside for now, and focused at the task at hoof. "Getting better. It will improve with practice." The instructor told her student. The latter beamed at the comment. "Would you like to take a break? You look exhausted." She then inquired her protégé. "Umm that would be nice." The shy filly offered the princess a small smile. The mare of the moon nodded in reply. They had been working for five hours straight starting of with telekinetic techniques. The little filly deserved her two hour break. It was half past midnight and luckily for the bashful student it was recess time for the whole school. Not only that a certain red colt just "happened" to be strolling by. Luna watched Silent approach her friend then observed the duo  leave together. I wonder how Twilight Sparkle is doing? She thought to herself as she began her journey to her office. Where more grades and paperwork awaited. Perchance if the alicorn was fortunate enough something interesting would occur in the next two hours. " GET BACK HERE!!!" A certain bookish mare raged as the two foals ran for their lives. "You told me this WASN'T a prank!!" Silent cried in between breaths. "I already told you it was an accident!!" Joke yelled in reply. Behind the dynamic duo Twilight was in pursuit. She was practically burning with rage and covered in frosting. "You threw that enchanted cake on purpose!!" The midnight blue filly shouted a mix of anger and fear in her voice. "I know! It was an accidental prank!!" The prankster answered as he rounded the corner nearly running into a group of students. "THAT COUNTS!!" Silent yelled. She turned the corner and was instantly pulled through a door with a soft yelp. Before the filly could say a word the door was quickly shut and she was being shushed by her red companion. "We can't let her hear us." The colt whispered. The sound of hoofsteps followed by a screeching halt echoed from the other side of the door. Then a pause. After that the duo could hear the sound of magic. Following that, nothing. The two foals sat there in fear filled silence for what seemed forever. "I think she's gone." Joke whispered. Suddenly the door let out a loud knock, as it bent inward a little. "COME OUT I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE!!!!" The bookworm yelled. The two friends screamed as the assault on the door continued. "WHAT DO WE DO, I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE!!" Silent cried desperately. "Help me up here; I have an idea!" The colt replied in kind. Princess Luna sat her desk in utter boredom. She had gotten through one stack of papers and had about twenty more to go,  in addition the mare of the moon had also perfected her wastebasket basketball skills as well as origami abilities. How does Celly's student ENJOY doing this? The alicorn asked herself. She was never really one for paperwork. Luna stopped for a minute and stared at the vent located above her desk wishing something interesting would happen. The vent was a barred hole at the end of a pipe, designed to allow warm air to leave the room and fresh air to enter. It connected to a network of tunnels in the building. Suddenly her wish was granted as the metal pipe began to vibrate uncharacteristically. She continued to watch in interest, as it shook more and more. Then another noise accompanied it. A faint screaming which grew louder as the vent began to shake more violently. Then it burst open, unloading a couple of familiar students onto the princess's desk sending the various stack of papers onto the floor. Directly after that, the opposite wall exploded revealing one Twilight Sparkle whom was quite literally burning with rage. Not only that, she was covered in frosting. "NO ESCA-" The infuriated librarian stopped mid-sentence as she noticed the alicorn princess sitting at the desk wearing an expression of utter surprise. The flames on her back faded as her coat and eyes returned to their natural color. The filly and colt on the desk remained frozen. For they believed that the proverbial spit had hit the proverbial fan. The four ponies all stared at each other for about a full minute. Paperwork and various other items littered the floor. The wall (along with many of the walls behind it) bore a big hole, with a trail of debris ending at the bookish mare. All in all the place would make the lord of chaos proud. Then straight out of nowhere Luna began to laugh. This caused the other three to stare at her in utter confusion and shock. Soon the librarian, the prankster and the bashful filly all began to laugh nervously. This continued for an additional five minutes until it died down. The alicorn then smiled and asked the trio, "So what brings you three to my office?" She already knew the answer, but wanted to hear it for herself. There was a pause, then all three of them began to speak all at once as if they believed that if the side who delivered their story first, would have the princess on their side. This made the mare of the moon to chuckled some more, which caused the other three to stop. Silent Night approached her beloved teacher and asked bashfully , "Umm does this mean we aren't trouble?" "I can't believe I'm stuck in here with you two!" Twilight complained as she continued to write the phrase, "I will not go on a rampage in pursuit of two pranksters." "Not my fault that cake was so conveniently placed." Practical commented as he copied "I will not enrage the librarian to cause major destruction to school property." "You still shouldn't have done it." The midnight blue filly countered in her disappointed tone as she did her standards. "In my defense I didn't go in there planning to prank her." The red colt replied, putting a hoof to his chest for effect. Silent then gave him a glare that was somewhat softened by her shy nature which only served to give it more effect. Twilight, whom was previously angrily coping down the same phrase, now watched in interest. The normally aloof prankster found himself sweating. He couldn't resist her stare last time and this time it was no different and the colt knew it. The filly took her time for the effect to fully register before making her move. "I already told you that pranking is mean. I am very disappointed in you." The princess's pupil said plain and simple. Silent made it exceedingly clear that she wasn't going to have any of it. The filly sharply turned around and resumed her work. Which spoke volumes. The librarian and prankster exchanged glances then resumed their own punishments. "NO! I'm mad at you." "Oh COME ON!! Pleeeaasssee? I said I was sorry!" "I said no. That is final." The midnight blue filly walked away eyes closed, head up, leaving the red colt in the night themed hallway with his head hung low in a defeated way. The moon light shined through the openings that lined the right side of the hall and the air was cool like it was on most nights. This all didn't help the now somber colt who began walking the opposite direction of the filly. "Seems somepony could use some advise." A voice said behind him. He gloomily looked over his shoulder to find the princess of the night who wore a comforting smile. Normally he would have shown some form of respect, but he wasn't feeling to jovial at the moment. Besides, he never was one to respect authority. Something that Luna quickly picked up on. She also noted that he wasn't in a listening mood. An idea popped in her skull. "How about a treat?" The alicorn offered which was accompanied with a small smile. The prankster peered up in interest. The gruff looking stallion was wiping the counter of his shop with a rag when the bell rang announcing the arrival of customers. He looked up to find his most common customer at this hour accompanied by a very young red colt. "Well if it isn't Princess Luna." He said as the alicorn approached the counter with her companion. "Hello Donut Joe. Nice to see you once again; I brought a young friend in need of cheering up." The princess replied amiably. Donut Joe's was the only quality donut shop that was open at that hour. Hence Luna commonly frequented the shop and the stallion also came to befriend her. "Oh hello Joke! See ya got in to the school." Joe said to the prankster "Hey Joe. " The red colt replied. "Ya left some of ya stuff here; it's in the back." The red colt nodded and headed through the door leading to the back room. "You two know each other?" The mare of the moon inquired as a smile tugged at her muzzle. "Of course we do, he used to work for me." The donut maker replied. She arched an eyebrow. "Work? Where did he live? Was there not somepony to take care of him?" Joe shook his head then shrugged. " I don't know. He never had any family he talked about. I checked the city records out of curiosity and you know what I found?" He leaned in closer to the princess who wore an interested look. "Nothin'. It was like he never existed." He leaned back and pulled out a mug and began pouring a cup of coffee. Luna put a hoof to her chin in thought. "Interesting." The gruff stallion took a sip. "So why the questions?" He inquired. "My student. She has formed a bond with our mysterious colt." The alicorn replied. He pushed the mug of coffee towards the mare who accepted the drink. " I've seen stranger." The mare of the moon popped an eyebrow. "Like what?" She inquired. He chuckled. "Like an immortal alicorn princess who visits my shop every night and acts just like anypony I've ever met." The both shared a small laugh like old friends. Well they were in fact good friends. The back room door opened and the colt in question entered wearing a set of saddle bags. He sat down  next to the princess as Joe produced a pink donut on the counter of which the prankster accepted. Joke took a bite of the confection, then asked, "So what are you talking about?" His tone suggested he didn't know the topic of the previous conversation. The two adult ponies exchanged glances then simultaneously replied, "Nothing." "Anyways should we not check up on Silent? She seemed quite hurt," Luna said as an attempt to send his attention elsewhere. His ears perked up at the mention of the name. Success. "Yes come on!" The colt said while leading the princess out the door. "Bye you two!" Donut Joe called out after them. The two ponies entered the night princess's home; Practical dropped his bags next to the door. Basically the hall that contained the mare of the moon's quarters and her protégé's as well; not to mention their washrooms. From personal experience Luna knew this was one of the likely places to find the filly. Another was the roof (even though nopony really knew how in Equestria she was able to reach it). "Silent!" The red colt called out. There was no answer. "Where is she?" He asked aloud. "The roof, I believe." The mare of the moon answered for him; as she gestured towards an open window that had a gentle breeze flowing through it. "Oh...How do I-" Practical was interrupted as the princess picked him up in her magic and placed him on her back. "I advise you hold on." She told the prankster as she spread her wings and shot out the window, the red unicorn clinging to her back. The duo quickly gained altitude until they were above the school. With the light of the moon aided them in their search. Soon Silent was quickly spotted on the roof of the tallest tower of the school. The change of course was barely noticeable due to the princess's exceptional flying skills. Moments later the duo arrived at the opposite side of the roof. "Aren't you gonna stick around?" The red colt asked as Luna turned to leave. She gave him a knowing smile. "This is your affair, I trust you will not harm my faithful student." With those words she soundlessly took off into the night. The moon's light coated the slightly slanted circular rooftop in a grayish glow. The stars seemed to shine extra bright over head as a cool breeze flowed across the area. Practical approached Silent with an air uncertainty. "Silent?" (Author's note: SORRY FOR THE WAIT!!
