The Day Everything Changed

Previous Chapter

Fifty years later...

Spike gulped as he laid in his bed. He dreaded the coming of this day forever. He dreaded this day so much that his dreams started to be plagued by the thoughts of it. Spike looked up on and found the clock on the wall. It read four thirty in the morning. The Apples would be getting up by now and that also meant that Twilight would get up in an hour. He had an hour. That was all he had. In one hour the day he couldn't stand would start.

The minutes ticked by slowly. The longer Spike stayed awake he the longer time seemed to stretch on. That was the way he wanted it. He wanted nothing more than to have time to himself. Spike didn't get out of bed, in fear of waking Twilight earlier than intended. But the cool morning air and the warmth of his bed sheets kept tempting him with the enticing dreamland that laid just a few eye shuts away. Spike continued to battle with the urges of sleep. But even he knew that it was loosing battle as his eyes started to closed by themselves. With a yawn of defeat Spike closed his eyes and started to drift back to sleep. Though to him the slumber didn't last long.

After what seemed like merely minutes, the door to Spike's room flung open and a lavender unicorn walked in. She walked over to the sleeping dragon and placed her hands on his arm and tugged. "Spike.... Spiiike. It's time to wake uuuuppp. It's reshelving daaay!~" she said in a singsong voice. Spike grumbled a bit as barely opened on of his eyes. He turned over to look at the unicorn and then quickly pulled the blanket over his head.

"Ugh...Twilight not today..... pleeaaassee." Spike pleaded. Twilight giggled a bit. She went to go walk upstairs to finish getting ready for the day. But not before turning back to Spike's bed.

"I guess those cinnamon buns that Pinkie Pie makes will have to wait until tomorrow." Twilight said before she left the room. Spike instantly sprang out of bed the moment he heard cinnamon buns. He ran to the bathroom to get ready for reshelving day. Twilight giggled. While Pinkie Pie takes the cake when it comes to having a sweet tooth, Spike came at close second.

As the hours ticked by, Spike had rushed to reshelve the books in the library. 'Of course Twilight would for schedule it for today. Curse my sweet tooth.' Spike thought to himself as he began to start shelving another large pile of books. Together, the duo managed to get more than half of the library reshelved by lunch time.

"Okay, Spike time for lu...." Twilight was cut of during her sentence by a purple and green blur run out the door. "H-hey!! Wait for me!!" Twilight yelled after Spike. Spike's speed managed to almost compare to the likes of Rainbow Dash. He silently thanked his growth spurts over the past few years. Before he knew it he was already at Sugarcube Corner. His mouth began drooling at the thought of those cinnamon buns. He opened the doors and found Pinkie Pie at the counter wearing her 'Kiss the Baker' apron. He rushed towards the pink mare, reached into the pockets of his black pants and pulled out a small bag of bits.

"Pinkie I have come for your cinnamon buns!!" Spike said excitingly. Pinkie smiled at the dragon's excitement for cinnamon buns. Even his tail started to wag on its own.

"Sure thing Spikey. We just sold the last batch, but I'm sure the Cakes won't mind if I make another one. Just have a seat and I'll be out in a jiffy!" Pinkie Pie said as she skipped into the kitchen. Spike sat at a booth and waited almost impatiently for his cinnamon buns to be done. He was so deep into the thought of his treat that he didn't notice that Twilight ran in through the door. She looked around frantically and found Spike sitting at his booth. She tried to call out his name, but was interrupted as an explosion rippled the front of the store.

The first thing Spike knew when he got up was that he was in a lot of pain. The second thing he noticed that he was being dragged out of burning Sugarcube Corner. Then the last thing he noticed was that there were dragons clad in armor flying overhead as well as some running through the streets. Though they didn't seem as big as the other dragons he faced before, much smaller in fact. From the looks of it, they looked like they couldn't be no more than a couple feet taller than Celestia. The pony dragging Spike stopped and slumped against the wall with a groan of pain. Spike groaned as he turned over and tried to get up. He looked up towards his savior and felt his heart dropped as he found Pinkie Pie slumped against the wall of the build clutching her left side. Her clothes and her hands were stained with blood.

"Oh hi Spike...... Good to see you're awake." Pinkie Pie said weakly as she flinched.

"Pinkie... what happened?" Spike asked. Pinkie took a while to catch her breath.

"My Pinkie senses were tingling and I was heading back..... to tell you that something was coming, but I guess I got there...... a bit too late. Hehe...." Pinkie Pie flinched as she started to laugh a bit. "I got hit was a piece of debris.... Twilight told me to get you out while she held off the dragon..." Pinkie Pie started to look more pale as she continued to lose more blood. Spike pushed himself to got up on his feet. His head began to hurt and he started to stumble a bit before getting his bearings straight. Spike looked around for something he could use for what he was about to do. Seeing nothing he could use he sighed to himself. He could hear the thud of a dragon walking towards them not too far off. If he was going to do what he needed to do he had to do it now.

"Pinkie, do you trust me?" Spike asked her. She nodded her head. "Okay, then. What I'm about to do is going to hurt, but I'm going to be quick about it. Just give me a minute." Spike pulled Pinkie's hands away from her wound. Both of them hissed at the look of it. What ever got her didn't submerge into her side, but it did leave a deep gash. Spike sighed again. He lifted Pinkie's shirt so it would be out of the way. Then had held his arm in front of Pinkie's mouth. "When I start, you're going to need to bite something. I can't find anything here so.... this is a close second." Pinkie looked at him with eyes of worry. It wasn't until he breath his fire into his free claw that she knew was going to happen. Tears started to fall from her eyes and her ears flattened as Spike prepared to cauterize her wound. "Okay, on the count of three. One... two.... THREE!!" Spike quickly placed his heated hand onto Pinkie's wound.

The moment his heated scales touched the wound Pinkie's teeth sunk into Spike's arm, muffling her scream. Though Spike felt lucky he had thick scales, he could have sworn Pinkie had drew blood from his arm by how hard she bit. After a few seconds, but what felt like hours to Pinkie, Spike was lifted his claw off of Pinkie's wound. Now in its place was burned imprint of Spike's claw. Spike felt Pinkie's teeth slowly release their iron grip on his arm.

Spike rubbed the area that was bitten and hissed. While the mare didn't penetrate his scales like he had thought, it still hurt like nothing he ever felt before. The time he belly flopped into a pool of lava wasn't as bad as this. But Spike knew he didn't have time to dwell on it. Spike picked Pinkie Pie up and helped her to her feet. He let her lean over his shoulders. 'She must have passed out.' Spike thought to himself, 'Who know those medical books would come in handy.'

Spike walked with Pinkie Pie over his shoulders and hide behind a house to take a breather before moving again. There were only a few dragons in Ponyville at the moment. There was a chance of him getting caught, but for now those chances were slim now. After getting another breather, he slumped Pinkie Pie over his shoulders again and walked on. Though just as he turned the corner he found a dragon eating apples out of a barrel. "Heh..... didn't know other dragons could eat pony food too." Spike quietly said to himself. Spike looked around for anywhere they could possibly go when he saw a door they could go through to just a bit a head.

He moved quickly and tried to make as little noise as possible to get passed the dragon. As soon as he thought he was in the clear he went in the building and closed the door behind him. He breathed heavily as he looked around the building. He remembered this building. It was the Quills and Sofas store. Spike laid Pinkie Pie on one of the many couches in the store, then found himself a seat. Spike let his tired and aching body melt into the sofa he was on. For while he just sat that and let everything sink in. After a while he started to think. He needed to get Pinkie some medical care. The only thing he did was seal her wound. It was going to have to need a lot more than just an amateur patch up.

Spike decided that he needed to get a good idea on where he was. The Quills and Sofas store was just down the street from the market. If he could get from here and to the market place, then take a left he should be able to reach the hospital in a few minutes. Seeing as to how he now had a plan, Spike looked out the door to see if the coast was clear.

It was at that moment that Spike felt his heart stop. Just a few feet to his right was a dragon with crimson wings, completely covered from head to toe in armor. Spike tried to sneak back in, but not before the dragon's golden eyes lock onto his green ones. In an instant, Spike knew this was going to be the end of him.
