"And that'll be 5.25ß, please!" The happy cashier says after hitting different buttons on the register, smiling at me. My tired eyes look back at her before I gaze down at my non-significant leather wallet.
'5.25ß... do I have that much in cash?' Yes. The clinking of gold coins was heard as I dug through my wallet to find enough to pay for this stupid coffee that I desperately needed.
Fishing out the necessary amount and handing it to the cashier. "Here you go, no need for a receipt."
I grab the paper mug in front of me, turning my heel and walking towards my usual table as the cashier placed the coins into the register. I sit down, placing my cup on the table and I take off my backpack, placing it on the floor. Taking out a laptop from the backpack, it was coloured a simple matte black with no logo on the top.
I place it in front of me and as I open it, the screen lights up and reveals a web browser with several tabs open. Most of the tabs were forums dedicated to chatting mostly about anything. Everyone's daily life and what not.
Placing my hand on the touch pad and moving the cursor to close the tabs, I put the paper mug to my lips and sip a bit of the coffee. As the cursor hovered over a tab that had a chat forum open, I noticed a notification on my profile. Opening the notification, it only notified of my recent reports of an abusive user. I sigh and close the tab. 'Nothing special today, huh? Just like every other day.'
The café was vacant. Everyone was over at Sugarcube Corner and since I found this hidden place, I could finally enjoy a coffee in peace without having to hear a song break out every single hour. The consistent nagging of Pinkie to help you find something for you to eat or snack on. 'Ugh... not for me...' I shudder and continue browsing through different websites. Most were quick visits, others were those that I frequent. 'Okay, been there. Nothing new... There's a sale on mechanical keyboards. Maybe I'll find something good.' I think to myself as i flip through the websites to find something to binge in.
A small chat window suddenly pops up out of no where. No website logo or anything. Just a plain chat window that displayed the message "Hello.". I ignore it and close it, thinking it was spam of some kind. The window didn't pop up after that and I finish my coffee, getting up and heading home to my apartment. A small bell could be heard as I exit the café.
The sun had gone behind the clouds and a few raindrops were starting to fall. The marketplace was packing up and heading home as well, not wanting their products to become wet and ruined. I pick up my pace and do a light jog to get home quicker so I wouldn't become drenched. The road to my apartment wasn't that long and I made it inside the complex before the rain started to pour down. Shaking myself off, I walk upstairs to my apartment and I get my keys out. As I unlock my door, my neighbour Sweetie Belle, came up the stairs as well. She was drenched from top to bottom and her hair wet and plastered over her face and shoulders. The weather gave her no mercy.
"Oh hey, Sweetie." I say as I stand there with my door open. "Hi, Midnight!" Her adorably squeeky voice replied. "The weather changed rather quickly!"
i nod as she tries to shake the water from her ears. "Yeah, sure did. Where were you if you had to run through the rain?" I close my door.
She stopped trying to get the water out and just giggled. "Oh, at Fluttershy's. She needed help with the animals so me, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo were there to help!" She exclaimed and struck a pose like Superman. I laughed lightly. "Well, she got the help she needed." I smile, imagining the three Crusaders running around frantically as the animals were going haywire.
"Uh-huh!" She nodded and smiled back. Her bubbly and innocent personality always made me smile and laugh. The light purple and pink hair, her slim figure, cute voice, large bosom... 'Hold up, why am I thinking about that?' I catch myself drifting away in my thoughts.
"You sure had a fun day. I'm going to head in. Need to finish working on something." I smile weakly, rushing inside and closing the door behind me.
'Fuck...'
I take off my jacket and hang it on one of the coat hooks next to the door. My small but quaint apartment was dimly lit from the light that came through the window. Flipping the light switch near the door illuminated the hallway and living room. I take my shoes off, placing them by the door and walking to the kitchen to prepare some coffee to enjoy as I sit in my room, doing the same thing I always do. Sit on my computer and do nothing.
Loading the coffee machine with the ground up beans, water and turning it on, I lean against the counter, tapping my fingers as I wait for it to finish up. I decide to check my refrigerator for something to snack on, only to find nothing. 'Well, I should probably stock up on food.' Closing it and rubbing my eyes, I hear the machine finish up and I grab my regular coffee cup, pouring in about three quarters with coffee and the rest with milk.
Taking a sip, I smile and walk to my room, placing the cup on my desk. My backpack was still by the door as I sit down, only for me to get back up and fetch it. The laptop was kept quite dry inside it as I pull it out and insert the charger, opening the top. As the screen lights up, my eyes go wide as I look at it. The tabs I had left open were not there anymore. They had closed for some reason and the only thing open on the screen was the familiar chat window from earlier. The message "Hi." was still there but a new one had appeared under it saying
"It's not polite to reject one's greeting, Midnight..."
