//-------------------------------------------------------// The True Story of Nightmare Moon (One Shot/Crossover) -by Child-Wonder- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// True Story of Nightmare Moon //-------------------------------------------------------// True Story of Nightmare Moon It was a thousand years before the birth of Twilight Sparkle. Life was very different rather then the time of the fourth Alicorn princess. Each if the four types of Ponies had to work together to survive. But it was better. For the ones who were once divided, were now united. United under the rule of two Alicorns. Their names, were Celestia and Luna. It was a generally peaceful time. The sisters had just defeated the spirit of chaos, Discord, using the elements of Harmony. On one particular evening, Celestia awaited her sister. Dusk was approaching, and they, as always, must complete this task together. Luna arrived soon after. And in unidon, their horns glowed with magical aura. Celestina's yellow, and Luna's a light blue. Celestia lowered the sun to make way for Luna's moon. "Go. Rest, my sister. I will watch the night." Luna told her elder sibling. Celestia nodded, and smiled slightly. She then left, leaving Luna in the throne room of the Castle of Two Sisters, alone. Luna sighed. She walked over to a window, from she had a good view of the surrounding valley. Asleep. They were all asleep. All other Ponies, asleep. And no pony was awake to admire her wonderful, beautiful night. "Upsetting, isn't it?" A voice said softly, but loud enough for Luna to hear. She turned to the direction the voice came from. "Who's there?" She asked in a loud and, hopefully, confident tone, trying not to betray her fear. "Hey! Relax! No need to get all jumpy." The voice chided. "If it calms you, I am a friend." Luna relaxed a bit. But the majority of her stayed tense. "Who are you?" She asked. "You will learn that in due time. But anyways, upsetting, isn't it?" The voice seemed to giggle, as if it enjoyed keeping Luna in the dark. "What do you mean?" Luna narrowed her eyes. But she knew exactly what the voice meant. And the voice seemed to know it, too. "Oh, you know, being forgotten, overshadowed by your sister, ridiculed. To be in the shadows, always second place." "How... How... How did you know?" Luna felt all those things, but tried to keep then secret. "I just know these sort of things." The voice replied. "And before you ask how, I feel them, too. Made fun of for being different, a freak. For simply not fitting in." Luna was shocked. She felt sorry for the poor creature. "I'm sorry." She said quietly. "Don't be." The voice answered. "Because rather than be offended by their insults, I embraced them. I became different. I became a freak. And I found I was more me at this time than ever before." "What are you suggesting?" Luna's suspicion returned. She stared in the direction of the voice. It was silent for a minute. The voice seemed to be making sure they weren't being overheard. Finally, it whispered, "Revenge. Isn't that a wonderful word? Revenge. Revenge against your sister, and everyone else eho caused you this pain." The voice let it sink in. Luna was baffled. Her shock then turned to anger. "Why would I want that? And what makes you think I do?" The voice chuckled. "Isn't it obvious? You feel lost, alone, unloved. Why wouldn't you want revenge on those who hurt you? If it helps, think of it this way. You wish to be admired. The night is your style. Do what you do best. Don't back down. Don't lower the moon. Cast the land into eternal night. Then, your subjects will either have start admiring your night, or wait forever, with a vain hope that some time the sun will rise again." Luna couldn't help but nod. She knew she shouldn't, but she liked the idea. "Yes. Yes, you're right. I deserve to rule. I have worked towards this moment. And then, I had to share the spotlight with my sister, and she got the bigger slice. It's not fair. We are supposed to rule with equal power and voice, but she overshadows me. You are right. I want, and will get, revenge." The bearer of the voice smiled inwardly. It was simple. The sisters had already poured the gasoline. All he had to do was light the fire. He turned to leave. Luna heard him. She turned. "Wait!" She cried out. "Can I have your name? I wish to thank you, for enlightening me." The creature turned. "Why not? A beam of moonlight hit the ground in front of him, and he stepped into it. The light illuminates his body. Small, round and purple. He was adjourned in a small red bowtie and a jester hat. What he lacked in arms, he made up in oversized feet. A smirk played on his lips, barely confusing a single can't. "My name," he said, "is Marx."
