The First and Only Chapter
CRACK!
Twilight nearly leapt out of her skin as Discord's form flashed into her bedroom.
Catching her breath, and putting her book down, she glared at the Spirit as he grinned at her.
"Whatcha readin'?" The draconequus snapped the book into his hand. "How to Avoid Huge Ships?" Discord turned the book over and skimmed the back cover. "Wait, wait, wait. Someone wrote an entire book... on how to avoid large marine ships? Why in the world are you reading it?" He handed the book back to Twilight.
"For entertainment, actually," She replied, a slight smirk on her face as she placed the book back on the table. "I couldn't believe someone wrote a book on something so silly. You should have seen the customer reviews. They were hilarious!"
"You're reading a book... to laugh at it?" Discord's grin widened. "I think I'm rubbing off on you!" He erupted into laughter as she rolled her eyes at him.
"You wish," She said tersely, tipping her nose slightly into the air.
"Haha, enough of that, Twilight!" The draconequus was suddenly wrapped around her body, face nearly touching her own. As usual, Twilight felt the odd mixture of annoyance and warmth in her stomach at this action.
"What do you want, Discord?" She pushed him off lightly and he slid to the floor, lying on his back with his hands steepled on his chest.
"I'm sure you remember our little secret band gig, right?" He said, examining his claws.
"Oh dear," Twilight sighed, though she found herself listening closely.
"I have another song in mind, if you'd like to try it out..." Discord trailed off, eyeing her.
Despite herself, Twilight found that she was warming up to the idea. "Well... Depends on the song."
"Oh, it's another one from back in my time! 'Everybody Talks', I believe it's called. How about we practice it a few times, then we can see if you're up for it?"
Twilight began to grin. "Alright! Let's do this!"
Discord had once again turned into his (quite dashing) pony self, and was getting ready to use his magic to disguise Twilight.
"Wait!"
Discord paused, the magic in his horn dying away. "What?" He asked, bewildered.
"Don't you think this is kind of... lying? I mean, hiding ourselves like this," Twilight's eyes fell to the floor.
"Well, if you want paparazzi following you everywhere, I'll be happy not to," Discord replied indifferently, and began to walk off.
"Wait!"
Discord stopped again, facing away from Twilight with a slight smirk on his face.
"... Okay, fine, transfigure me."
"With pleasure, dear," He replied, a laugh in his voice. A flash of his horn and Twilight's mane turned aqua once again with a much lighter shade of purple as her coat.
"And, um, what's my name again?"
"Sapphire Dusk, Twilight. It was only three days ago, and you forgot your alter-ego's name already? What if I had forgotten and we had to look in a magazine or something?" The gray stallion stuck his tongue out at her, and walked out the door.
"And... your name?" Twilight asked as she followed.
"Must I tell you everything?" Discord sighed, exasperated. "Coal Blaze. Now," He put his hooves on her shoulders. "Pull yourself together, man! ... Mare. We're going to Canterlot!"
Twilight's eyes widened. "To perform?" Her voice cracked.
"Why of course! What else would we do? Well, we could prank the Princesses, but that's an adventure for another day, and for different disguises," He winked at her playfully. "Let's go!"
With a flash of light, Twilight felt herself pulled through space in a heart-wrenchingly different way then her own teleportation. Stumbling as she landed, she looked around for something to throw up into. She saw Discord looking at her amusedly, as he handed her a bucket. Shortly after, he handed her a glass of water.
"How... How do you handle that feeling every time?" Twilight gasped.
"Eh, you get used to it. Just be happy I teleported us backstage. What a scandal it would have been if you had thrown up in front of all of those ponies out there," He gestured to the curtain that Twilight just now noticed.
She crept over and peered through a small break in the fabric. Her jaw dropped as she saw several hundred ponies milling about.
"Did you summon all of those ponies, or did they really come to see us?!" Twilight asked breathlessly.
"Apparently, good talent spreads fast in Equestria!" Discord grinned. "I just put up a few signs, and checked here about five minutes ago. I have to say, I was quite shocked as well."
Suddenly, the announcer's voice rumbled through the crowd. "Presenting, for your enjoyment on this fine night, Coal Dust and Sapphire Dusk! Singing 'Everybody Talks'!
'Coal Dust' smirked at 'Sapphire Dusk'. "That's our cue!
"Well, I think that went splendidly." Discord crowed, doing a few back flips in the air to properly demonstrate his excitement.
Twilight giggled at his antics. "Do you really think they liked it?"
Discord put a paw to his ear, as if listening very hard for the crazed screams that the audience were still emitting close to three minutes after their performance. "I think I can safely surmise that they did."
"I can't believe I'm a star! And nopony even knows it's me!" Twilight gasped.
"Well, to be honest, do you really need more paparazzi?"
"Oh Celestia, no!" Twilight laughed.
"Then be thankful Sapphire Dusk is taking all that fame for herself, Princess!" Discord chuckled. "You wanna go get some ice cream or something? My throat is tuckered out from all that singing."
"Mine too," Twilight grinned. "What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?" She asked as they began to walk off towards the shop.
"Why, double chocolate brownie supreme, of course! What about you?"
"I think I'll stick to plain vanilla, thanks."
"Of course even your choice of ice cream would be boring," Discord scoffed.
"Hey!" Twilight nudged him, and they both laughed as they walked into the sunset.
