This is a story of the bravest. This is a story about loyalty. This is a story about danger. This is a story about… Rainbow Dash
The subway train travelling to Coney Island was almost empty since it was quarter to six. There were only six people in the train. At one side of the train four of them were watching the walls of the subway passing fast. On the other side, one teenage was holding her friend next to her. All of them had wounds, some of them were just bruises, but one of the girls had a nasty cut on her forehead. Her friend was comforting her when she woke up.
“You shouldn’t have pick me up.”
“What?”
“You shouldn’t have pick me up. And you knew it.”
“What did you want me to do? To leave you there, alone, so all the other gangs could hurt you Spitfire?”
“Look, Rainbow. I wanna thank you, for real. You have done a lot of us and the only thing we did for you was putting you into trouble.”
“We already talked about that. I won’t let anyone behind.”
“But we-”
“Not even you. Not one of you.” Rainbow said to all of the other people on the train. “I know some of you feel guilty about the events of tonight. Even I feel bad about tonight. And I know Twilight and everyone were right about most of the things they said about you.” Rainbow Dash cleared her throat. “But we went there all together, and we will came back, all together.”
“We know Rainbow.” Soarin, one of the others riding on the train, said. “But you gotta admit, you were pretty badass down there.”
“Yes, I know.” Rainbow smiled. “They didn’t saw me coming.” They laughed for a moment, until Rainbow stopped and her smile gone away. “But that’s not the right thing.”
“Rainbow, you did nothing wrong. You were only protecting us and yourself.”
“Yes, but still…” Rainbow looked through the window. Her optimism was gone, she only wanted to get to her bed and sleep. It was the worst night of her life.
The thursday before.
“There’s only 2 minutes before the match is over, people.” Vinyl Scratch was narrating the soccer match to the school. “Unless a miracle happens, this match is going to penalty shootouts.”
Rainbow Dash was running with the ball, she was trying to pass it to one of her teammates, but all of them were far away from her. Sooner than that, she found herself surrounded by four defenses from the Diamond Dogs.
“Oh no, she’s trapped!” Twilight exclaimed from the terrace.
“Run Rainbow run!”,“Don’t let them get you!”, “Go Rainbow!” Her other friends were encouraging her. Even with all the noise from the field, Rainbow could hear them, so she decided to outrun the defenses instead of waiting the other players. She passed through them, and began to run to the goal line. The goalkeeper tried to stopped her, but with no avail, since Rainbow slotted the ball into the net.
“GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!! The match is over! What a goal! What an amazing goal! Rainbow Dash, little cosmic comet, which planet did you came from? That was one of the most amazing goals I’ve ever seen in my life! The match is over folks, and thanks to Rainbow Dash, Canterlot Wonderbolts wins by 2-1 to the Diamond Dogs”
Ten minutes later, Rainbow Dash was closing her locker. She was named the MVP of the game and her team made it to the finals. She was going to Sugarcube Corner to celebrate with her friends. But before she left, she was stopped by Spitfire, the captain of her team.
“Well done, Rainbow!”
“Thanks, Spitfire. Was an amazing goal, right?”
“Yeah, Maradona would be proud.”
“I don’t know, they were so gentle.” Both of them laughed.
“Are you going somewhere?” Spitfire asked.
“Well, yes. I’m going to Sugarcube. Wanna come?”
“No, thanks, I just wanted to invite you to a party.”
“Did you said a party?”
“Yep, do you love parties, right?”
“Yes, I mean, I have a friend who is in love with parties and stuff but, yeah, I’d like to hang out.”
“Great, go to this place when you finish your meeting with your friends. Don’t be late!”
“I won’t!” She said while Spitfire was leaving the lockers. “Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh oh gosh-”
“Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh-”
“Rainbow, are you ok?” Twilight asked.
“What? Oh, yes, sure, why are you asking.”
“Maybe it’s because you were saying oh gosh for about 15 minutes.” Sunset Shimmer replied.
“I’m sorry, I’m kinda excited. Do you know who are the Wonderbolts Warriors, right?”
“Yes?”
“Well, they invited me to a party.”
“OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!!!” Pinkie Pie screamed. “That’s the coolest thing ever! I should bring my balloons, my party cannon, my gummy, my pinata, my-”
“Pinkie, stop.” Rainbow stopped her. “They didn’t invited all of us, just me.”
“Oh, but can I go with you?”
“I’m sorry Pinkie, I don’t think so.” Seeing her down, Rainbow added “but I guess that party will blow, maybe we should have our own party this sunday.”
“Really?”
“Yes, and I’ll tell the Warriors to come out, what do you think?”
Pinkie begin to inflate her lungs, and then a big shout that most assumed it was ‘YEAH!’ spread to all the city.
“I won’t let you down.”
“This is DJ PON-3 with the greatest music of all time. Now, it’s time to play a classic tune. From Ireland, The Cranberries brought you Linger.”
The party where Rainbow was invited was located on a house at Brighton Beach, on Coney Island. Rainbow was having fun at the party. It wasn’t as fun or crazy as a Pinkie party, but it was great. She was hanging out with the prom guys and having a good time. She was going to the bathroom until she bumped with a guy wearing a red shirt, a top hat and white makeup on his face.
“Get the hell outta here!” He said while he was leaving.
“Sorry. Geez.” Rainbow Dash then found Spitfire. “Spitfire!”
“Rainbow! Those are my friends Bulk Biceps, Rapidfire, Fleetfoot, Misty Fly and of course Soarin.”
“Nice to meet you, too.” Soarin said. “You were the one who scored that last minute goal?”
“Yeah, that was awesome, right? I was there, surrounded by rivals, no one there to pass it, so I decided to run to the goal line.”
“Wow, that’s awesome.”
Rainbow and Soarin begin to talk to each other, talking about sports, challenges and parties. They begin to have a good time until Soarin asked her if she was having fun at the party.
“Yes, well, mostly.”
“What? What happened?”
“No big deal, just a guy who bumped on me and he shouted at me.”
“Really, who was it? It was Bulk? He look though but he is no big deal to me”
“No, Bulk was amazing, it was this random guy. He was wearing a red shirt and make up.”
Suddenly, Soarin smile faded. “Make up? What kind of make up?”
“You know, like the ones that clowns or mimes wore. But it wasn’t the big deal.” Rainbow said, but she noticed that Soarin had a serious expression on his face, an expression that was turning slowly in anger.
“Sorry Dash, you stay here. I need to talk to Spitfire.”
“Well, let’s go to-”
“No. You stay here.”
He walked away from her, and Rainbow noticed he was whispering something on Spitfire ear. Her expression changed as everyone else around her. She went outside with Soarin and her other four friends. Rainbow decided to follow their tracks. As they begin to walk far away from the party, she began to feel uneasy. They went to an alley, and when Rainbow entered there, she was confronted by them.
“Aw, let me go!”
“What are you doing here? I told you to stay in the house!” Soarin said.
“That’s what I’m asking, what are you doing here? And why you were so freak out when I told you about the mime.”
“Look, this is dangerous. Really, really dangerous.”
“Spitfire, what the hell is going on here?”
“Nothing that matters to you. Now move on.”
“I won’t leave until you tell me what’s going on.”
“Get away from here, Rainbow Dash”
“Well, well, well.” Suddenly, all of them stopped. They heard some steps going on their direction. The guy who bumped on Rainbow was walking to them, surrounded by other people with the same attire and makeup. “It’s the Wonderbolt Warriors”.
“What are you doing here? This is not SoHo” Spitfire talked to them.
“Well, we heard there was a party, and we wanted to have some fun.”
“You are not allowed to enter this neighborhood. Go back to SoHo.”
“What if we don’t wanna go home early? Whatcha gonna do?”
“Well, remember there is a truce. Do you wanna break it?”
“Maybe, maybe not. But I remember one thing, warriors.”
“What?”
“That truce… is for true gangs.”
As soon as the mime said that, Spitfire punched his face, throwing him to the ground. Then a brawl began with the mimes and the Wonderbolts fighting each other. Rainbow stayed away from the battle until she noticed one of the mimes took out a knife and was walking to Spitfire. Quickly Rainbow Dash kicked him and throw away his knife, fighting alongside the other Wonderbolts. The Wonderbolts had the upper hand until they heard a scream from another person.
“HEY!” Suddenly both the mimes and the warriors stopped. “What are you doing here?”
“We were protecting ourselves from them. The Cloudsdale Hi Hats are not allowed to enter here.” Spitfire said.
“Is that true?” The man said to the mimes, the Hi Hats.
“Well, part of it. I mean, there was- there-. Please we don’t want to break the truce.” The leader said.
“I thought you wanted to break the truce.” Soarin said.
“No, that’s not true.” He said to the Wonderbolts. “Please man.”
“Do you have any problems with them.” The man said to the Wonderbolts.
“As long as they leave, no.”
“Go back to your home base. And I don’t want more trouble from you. Is that understood?” The Hi Hats silently nodded as they began to walk off from the street. “Don’t forget about the meeting.”
“No, we won’t.”
“Remember, no guns.” He said before leaving quietly.
Rainbow Dash was really pissed off. The face she gave to the Wonderbolts was mad.
“I guess you have some questions, right?” Spitfire asked.
“Whatcha think?”
Author's Note
Yes, I know, I still have my Doctor Whooves waiting, but this story just came to my head and I wanted to write it.
So, yes, the Wonderbolts are now a gang. But not that kind of gang, wait til the next episode.
This is DJ P0N-3 with the latest news. Some guys tried to outsmart the Wonderbolts. It’s such a shame when they met the newest member. She thought they could give a better fight. Now remember boopers, the truce is fragile, but it is important, so don’t break it. Unless you want to have a really bad time.
Rainbow Dash and the Wonderbolts were walking to Spitfire’s home after the beating of the Hi Hats. Rainbow felt a little tired, but somehow she also felt excited, like if she was liking the idea of beating other people. But part of her knew that wasn’t something good. Her conscience was killing her.
“So, you were telling me what the hell were you doing with those mimes.” Rainbow asked.
“Yeah, you’re right. You deserve to know the truth.” Spitfire said. “We are called the Wonderbolts Warriors. We are a gang.”
“What? Why?”
“Because life sucks, mostly. Sit down please, it’s a long story.” They all sat down on the sidewalk. “How did I became part of a gang? Well, it happened a long time ago…”
This neighborhood used to be good. People were nice, you could play on the street, and all of us had that sense of security. Back then my dad used to work on Manhattan, while my mom was a housekeeper. It was a good time, until some jerks came around. They called themselves the Changelings, and all the safety that this neighborhood had was gone.
Soon after they came up stores were robbed, there were drug dealers, and they even threatened kids if they didn’t help them. Things were getting worse and worse until I said no. They didn’t take it well. One day… they shot my dad in front of the house.
“I’m sorry.” Rainbow said, with tears in her eyes.
“Don’t worry.” Spitfire answered, also with tears in her eyes. But unlike Rainbow’s whose eyes reflected sadness, Spitfire eyes were reflecting anger. “It’s not something you said when you meet someone.”
That day changed my life. My dad was the best person in the world and they killed him. After that my mom had to look for a job to keep us steady. When she found one she was almost all day at work, and I learned how to cook, how to clean, how to wash and iron clothes. I became an adult that day.
But then I met Soarin and the gang. We were living in the same neighborhood before those changelings came around and we saw how they changed everything. We decided that we couldn’t let things like that to happen again. We became the Wonderbolt Warriors.
“The very first we did, was to get revenge on my dad.”
“Look,” Rainbow interrupted her. “I know you lost your dad and I understand you. I know how is to grow up with one parent. But, you couldn’t find another way to cope with your pain?”
“I tried. I honestly tried. And actually I’m still trying to do it. I got into the sports team so I could think of something else, I got a part time job the weekends so I could help my mom to make ends meet and I did a lot of things, but, I can’t. It wasn’t just that he killed my dad, It was that he got away with it.”
“What?”
“Nobody saw him, nobody remembered anything so he couldn’t be tried. Everyone was so scared that they couldn’t denounce him. That really pissed me off…”
We knew who we was. He went by the name of Dusky Fang. He was boasting all the time what he did to my dad. We needed to stop him. And that’s what we did.
One day after a baseball match, he and his buddies were leaving his house, I guess for drinks or something. Before they got to the store, we were there. We were young, a little younger than you Rainbow. We were just 14, and he was 27. And he saw us, and smiled at us.
“Look, girl. If this is about your daddy, forget about it. I only asked a favor to you and you said no. I don’t like when people say no to me. You must know that. So everything that happen to your daddy, it’s your fault, alright? Next time, I ask you for something, you said, ‘yes sir.’ Is that understood?”
I didn’t reply. I was staring at him. Waiting…
“Is that understood? Do you wanna have trouble?”
Waiting…
“Maybe you need a new dad. A new one who teaches you to respect your elders. Maybe I should pay a visit to your mom.”
Waiting…
“Or maybe, I could become your daddy, right here, right now.” He came closer, and I was just waiting, waiting…
“Is that what you want?”
Until he was close enough, so I punched him in the face. One hit, and he fell to the ground.
“Awww, beat that girl! Now!”
The others ran to me, but the other Wonderbolts protected me. I was watching him on his knees, so I punched him, and I kicked him, and then I beat him. On some point he grob a gun, and he was pointing at me. But I didn’t care, I beat him, I broke up his nose and I grab his gun. Now I was pointing to him. And then I realised something.
He was a coward. Not because he was scared. Anyone can be scared of a gun in front of you. He was a coward. He didn’t expect to someone to fight him. He imposed his fear to cover up his cowardice. My dad got killed… by a coward.
“Please don’t kill me. Please don’t kill me.”
“Why? Why I shouldn’t kill you?”
“I’ll give you money! All the money I have.”
“I don’t want your filthy money.”
“I’ll give you drugs, I’ll give you booze.”
“I don’t like that shit.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
“I don’t want your forgiveness.”
“What do you want?”
“I WANT MY DADDY BACK!!!!”
Then I shot three times.
“No, you didn’t” Rainbow stood up. “You didn’t… you didn’t…”
“Kill him? No. Did the bastard totally deserved it? Yes. But-”
“But what?”
“I knew that killing him wouldn’t bring my dad back. And if he could saw me, he would be disappointed about what was about to do.” Spitfire broke to cry. Everyone began to console her, even Rainbow Dash.
“It’s ok, darling. Let it go.”
“I’m sorry, Rainbow. It’s have been four years, and I still miss my dad. I miss him so much. I want my daddy back.”
“Where did you shot?”
“Two bullets went to the sewer. The third one went to his arm…”
He was bleeding in front of me. The coward who killed my father was staring at me. So I told him:
“Out.”
“What?”
“You heard me. I want you out of here. I don’t wanna see you in Coney Island. I don’t wanna see you in New York. I don’t wanna see you in the country. Because the next time I see you, the bullet will go to the head. Got it? GOT IT?”
“Yes! Yes!”
“GET OUT OF MY FACE!”
Then he ran, and all of his friends ran with him. On a couple of days all of the changelings left New York. But that brought a problem that we didn’t expect. Now that the changelings left Coney Island, the other gangs wanted to rule here. That’s when we met the Blazers, the Fastballs, the Hi Hats, the Moonrunners, and so on. They thought they could go here and do what the Changelings did. But they found out that we were protecting Coney Island.
Finally, we met the Riffs. The biggest gang in New York. They offered us a truce. If we accepted, no gang would try to conquer our space. So, we accepted.
“That was about two months.” Spitfire recalled. “Before those Hi Hats came along, it was a peaceful time.”
“Wow, that’s a lot to digest.” Rainbow said. “I, man, I don’t know what to say.”
“It’s ok. I want to you to understand us. We didn’t have another choice.”
“What does your mom think about all of this?”
“It breaks her heart.” A tear came from Spitfire’s eye. “From the beginning.”
“There’s one last question. Why didn’t you stop after that guy left New York?”
“I didn’t know for sure that he left. The riffs told me that he hasn’t been spot for years. So is either hiding or he left. Besides, there was another gang who wanted to take our little spot. We couldn’t left. It wasn’t easy.”
“I- I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to think. I, think I want to go home.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“No.”
“It’s 3 in the morning, it’s dangerous to go alone and you have school at eight. I’ll go with you.”
They waved good bye to the others Wonderbolts and left to Rainbow house. When they made it, Spitfire asked Rainbow.
“I know it’s not easy, but I want to understand us. We don’t like to live in this world. If there’s a way to leave it, we’ll do.”
“I know. Let me think about it. Thanks for the party.”
“Good night Rainbow Dash.”
