Before the events of the series Celestia had another student, a promising Unicorn called Atom Splitter. For a while, all was well until her student's dark desires were realized as the pony was far more interested in science than the magic of the gods. Discovering how to create life of his own the pony planned to work under Celestia hiding his intentions from her until he claimed his Alicornhood.

But when Celestia discovered his terrible experiments performed on her citizens she attacked with intentions of destroying her once beloved student, not expecting to run into the abominations he called life, they managed to narrowly escape and disappeared out of existence.

Year's past and no traces of him were ever found, and Celestia soon picked a new pupil: a young Twilight Sparkle who rose past all expectations and ascended to her Alicorn status. The previous student long forgotten.

Until recent reports showed signs of the pony and indicated he might be getting close to unleashing his devastating plot on all of Equestria.
