You don't get much of a choice in our town. The entire population has to act the same. That is the village's main rule. Even parents don't get to chose what to call their children. Starlight Glimmer, the village's leader, named me Nick. It's strange that my name is Nick because ponies that are outside of this village have these long and wacky names

All of the ponies that act equal in this town act weird. Actually, they are this village's version of normal. I call it village-normal. Instead of something being weird, it's village normal. I am village-weird, however. I do not live up to Starlight Glimmer's expectations. Fortunately, nopony seems to care about my non-village-normality and it has never gotten me into trouble.

Everyone in this village seems happy to be here. They all have the same big smile on their faces. I don't take this as a very welcoming thing. My parents, Sketch Durso and Full Canvas, don't like it either. My parents are the ones who are closest to me. They were most likely disappointed when they found out I was going to be named Nick and not something long and non-village-normal. I'm sad I didn't get named anything else, either. But my parents and I are still very close to each other, and that's all that matters. We are still together and happily living with each other. I prayed to Celestia that my parents will never get taken away from me. It isn't long before I found out that Celestia has denied my prayers.
