They say that going there is dangerous. They say that there are a lot of strange and magical creatures waiting to hunt you and stop you from going further. They also say that even if get past the creatures, they won’t leave you alive.
Yeah, but… who cares? Well, not me of course.
And that was where everything started. My brave, or as other ponies said, ‘idiotic’ decision was made when I said, ‘Who cares?’ to what others told me. I mean, really, these Fairy Ponies didn’t seem as bad as others made them sound. I hadn’t seen one myself but it wasn’t as scary as those pony’s explanations.
Magical beauty that froze you to the bone and eventually leads to your death by those Fairy creatures! Seriously? I don’t know about those cowards but I didn’t believed EVEN A WORD. Those nonsense belonged to their superstitious owners. None of these lies can scare me, the one and only brave Soarin.
And my story starts from right here. From the day my best friend and I and started our long to the boundaries of…
Wait a second, why am I being this sappy? This is supposed to be my journal not a cheesy, sappy romance novel. Therefore… here we go!
As I said earlier my friend, Starswirl and I were heading to a dangerous journey. A journey to find a Fairy Pony and come back alive. This way, we could prove ponies wrong ideas about the Fairies and also prove that we can be the first ponies who come back alive.
And because of that, I woke up early in the morning and grabbed my saddle bag as I walked outside of my room. There, in front of the fire place, Starswirl stood with his hand made map of Equestria. Being an egghead like what he was, had some advantages such as knowing every single detail about Fairy Ponies AND Equestria. Therefore, our job was much easier with his knowledge.
“Ready to go?” he asked as he saw me.
“Pff, I was born ready,” I answered casually.
“Um… Soar? You sure you wanna do it? It’s still not that late. We can stop it right here,” mumbled Starswirl.
“Star, if you don’t really wanna come with me, it’s okay. You know I can handle myself,” I said.
He rolled his eyes and huffed as he heard my answer. “I can’t leave this idiot fearless colt who wants to experience the most dangerous things. God what should I do?”
“Maybe you should let him experience it?” I said with a grin.
“Fine. But only because you’re the only and the best friend I’ve ever had and the fact that you won’t stay alive without me AND the fact that I’m responsible for you,” he said as he smiled sadly at the end. “By the way, I sure don’t wanna be disloyal to your parents.”
I sighed sadly as I let my mind drift off to the memories from the past. I still could remember my dad’s last trip. I still could see his gentle smile at me and hear him when he told me to take care of my mother while he was away. I could also remember my mother’s sad tears as if she wasn’t going to see him anymore. And that exactly happened. He never came back and the only thing left from him was the necklace my mother had given to him.
After his companion in his journey gave the necklace to us, my mother caught a very hard disease. That was the only time I was scared in my life. Scared of losing that always happy mare that I knew as my mother but unfortunately my fears came true. And the last moments of her life, she talked to Starswirl and I. She said that she could my dad smiling at her. She made Star promise that he would protect me since he was older than me. After that, she passed out right in front of me and ever since then, Starswirl had become my everything. My friend, my companion and the brother I never had.
But he sure wasn’t coming to the trip with me just because he was responsible for me. I knew that he was even more eager than me to start this trip just because he wanted to discover new magic very badly. By the way, it was Starswirl, the most egghead pony in Equestria that took any risk just for the sake of magic!
“Earth to Soarin! What are you doing high above?” said Starswirl sarcastically. “I know you want to fly badly but try not to go so high above.” He snickered as he saw my glare.
“Hahaha, so funny,” I said as I hardened my glare.
“I bet you didn’t even hear me, did you?” he asked. He got his answer quickly as he saw my sheepish grin. We a roll of eyes, he continued, “I was saying that Fairy Ponies can be anywhere. According to my studies on them, they are invisible to us but they can be visible whenever they want. Therefore, there might be a bunch of Fairies now listening to us. They inform the other fairies and therefore we will be dead even before we get to their realm.”
“Then what should we do?” I asked.
“Well, there’s always a way for everything and this one too. There is a powerful spell that keeps them away but it’s too hard to cast. When I was gathering equipment for the journey, one of my worries was how to cast this spell almost every inch of the way because it takes a lot of energy but then a thought crossed my mind. You see, there’s another way for keeping them away and it’s using small bells but they’re not a good idea because Fairies can destroy them easily but what if we cast the spell on the bells? Therefore, whenever they wanna get near, we ring the bells and they go away and they can’t get close to the bells because the magic stops them from getting near.”
I looked at him with wide eyes and dropped jaw. Slowly, a smile and then a grin broke on my face. “Starswirl! Oh star, star. You’re… you’re… just wow! I don’t know what to say. Now I know why you delayed the trip till now! All I can say is that you’re genius!”
“Thank you so much but it wasn’t anything. I just put two and two together. That’s all!” he said with a smile. “However which one do you want?” he said as he pointed to the two items in front of the fireplace. One of them was a cloak that had bells on the bottom of it and the other one was a wand that had bells at top of it.
“Wait, you mean if I choose the cloak, I have to wear it all the way,” I said as I looked at the strange hood in disgust.
“Yeah, so what?” he said casually.
“So what? Everypony will make fun of me for wearing this! No thanks, I won’t. At least if you wear it, they say that Equestria’s big magician is wearing his working suit… er, cloak! But I’ll be a laughing stock if I do it,” I said.
“Big magician, huh? I’m not that famous you know,” he said.
“Maybe not THAT famous but that few spells you invented really blew unicorns away,” I said with a small smile. “However, I think picking that wand would be a better idea.”
“Great! I really wanted to try that cloak!” he said happily. “But I have an extra one if you changed your opinion.”
“No thanks…” I said as I looked at the… thing in horror. “How about starting our trip right away?”
“Yeah, let’s go!” he said. We stepped out of the house and closed it behind of us. I stared at it and sighed as I turned away from it. Starswirl who saw everything, put a hoof on my shoulder and said, “Don’t worry. We’re gonna be back here again.”
“I hope so,” I answered with a sigh.
“Come on now! You’re with the most genius pony of Equestria. Nothing can happen,” he said cheerfully.
“Yeah, I sure hope so!” I said with a chuckle and received a punch as answer.
“Wait a second, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!” I said happily.
We started walking in the path when suddenly Starswirl stopped. “Use the wand. Now!” he said suddenly. I didn’t waste any time and shook the wand right away. Right as I did this, an ear piercing scream was heard and a couple strange floating ponies appeared. They were shutting their eyes and holding their ears. They were exactly like two ghosts floating. And when I say ghost I mean literally. Their transparent bodies showed the scenes behind them perfectly.
“W-what are they?” I stuttered.
“Fairies,” answered Starswirl simply.
“They’re… not as beautiful as I thought they are,” I said as I looked at the screaming creatures in disgust.
“Yep. They sure aren’t beautiful when they’re angry like them but in general they’re the most beautiful creatures around,” he explained.
Right on the cue, the Fairies raised their heads and looked at us with such angriness that made a chill run down my spine but the angriness on the face wasn’t the thing that scared you. The amount of angriness was almost unseen as the scary face of them made you have nightmare for a good week.
“I just hope you’re right about them being pretty,” I whispered to Star.
“You’ll pay for that!” hissed one of the Fairies.
“You’ll pay for that!” said the other with the same angriness as its partner. Then in a blink they started dashing as they repeated the phrase over and over.
“Will… they really do it?” I asked as I watched them disappear.
“They still don’t know us. As I said, the magic prevents them from getting near us,” he said. “By the way, place this in your ear.” He gave me a small object that… well, there was just no way to describe it because it was indescribable. The best definition for it was a small wooden ball. “Once you place it in your ear, it doesn’t come out till you want. With this, you can hear voice of the Fairies wherever they are. Therefore, you’ll know when to shake the wand. And don’t worry about stealing it. It has the same spell that keeps Fairies away just it’s stronger and won’t let ponies steal it either,” he said.
“You know what? I would have been already dead without you,” I said as I placed the ball in my ear. It felt a little weird but soon, I got used to it. After getting everything set again, we continued our walk. I took a deep breath and smiled as the first rays of sun hit my face. A beautiful day to start a good trip. Too bad that ours wasn’t anything near good. Dangerous, thrilling, mysterious, yes but good, definitely not.
And guess what? It was just the perfect way to start a life-threating-super-dangerous-and-awesome journey. Yep, just the right way.
“Are we anywhere near the Green Leaves Forest?” asked Star tiredly.
“C’mon man! We just walked for four hours and you’re already exhausted?” I asked cheerfully. Star did looked pretty tired but to tell the truth, I was just getting ready for another good four hours of walking!
“Soarin, not everypony is as… as… strong as you,” he said between his pants.
“Fiiiiine. Because of how generous I am, I’ll let you rest for fifteen minutes but that’s it!” I said. He collided to the ground as my sentence ended. I looked at him with surprised. Walking for four hours couldn’t be this bad could it? However, I just shrugged and sat next to the panting Starswirl.
“Whoa! Look at here! The great Starswirl is passed out!” I said with a chuckle. “Can’t you perform a spell to make you stronger or at least give you fresh breath?”
“First, shut that mouth! Second, there’s no spell that can do it. At least not yet. And third, there IS a spell for fresh breath but a unicorn can’t perform spells when he/she is tired,” said Star as he took deep breaths.
“There are strangers here,” said a voice.
I turned to Starswirl and said, “Strangers? What strangers?”
“Huh?” he said with surprise.
“Didn’t you say there are strangers here?” I asked.
His eyes quickly became wide as he heard what I said. “Wand! Soarin be quick!” My eyes widened and I quickly grab the wand and shook as hard as I could. Just like the last time, two screaming creatures appeared and fell to the ground as they caught their ear.
“You’ll pay for this!” said one of them angrily.
“Why don’t you leave us alone?” I said angrily.
“Danger! Danger is coming at you! Be aware that young princess won’t leave you alive!” hissed the other one.
I gritted my teeth and grumbled, “You know what? I don’t give a damn about your princess!”
Two Fairies gasped upon hearing that and roared angrily. “Princess won’t leave you alive!” said one of them again.
“Princess won’t leave you alive!” roared the other one. This time I didn’t waited for Starswirl and shook the wand right away. Two Fairies screamed away and flew away as they repeated ‘princess won’t leave you alive’ and ‘you’ll pay for this’ again and again.
“Wow…” was all Star said.
“What was that? Princess?” I asked as I stared at the direction they left.
“Yeah. In some of the books I read about Fairies Ponies, there were somethings about the princess of Fairies. Princess is the smartest and the most beautiful of them all but she’s also the most skilled of them,” explained Star.
“Therefore, we’re dead,” I said with wide eyes.
“You didn’t believe them, did you?”
“Uh…”
“They can’t do anything. They’re just bluffing and try to scare us. Every single of the Fairies we saw are the banished Fairies. They’d broken the rules of the Fairies realm and they are banished from there to live in the place where all of the Fairies are scared of; Ponies’ world. They don’t have the permission to enter their former home and therefore, they can’t tell the princess,” said Starswirl.
“You… sure about that?” I asked doubtfully.
Star shook his head. “Totally. The real danger is when we’re getting close to the gates of the kingdom. Fairy guards are everywhere in there but don’t worry. I have a protection spell for that time.”
“And where the gates are?”
“At the end of Green Leaves Forest.”
“Then we should be pretty prepared. There’s only one more hour till we get to Green Leaves Forest,” I said as I checked the map.
“Include rest time, breakfast time and lunch,” said Starswirl.
I snickered and replied, “Then we’ll be there at tomorrow morning.” Starswirl rolled his eyes and said nothing. I smiled and sat beside him. We had a long way to go and saving energy was the best thing I could at the moment.
“There it is!” said Starswirl happily.
“What? Did we reach to the forest already?” I asked with surprise cause with all of the time we had wasted it didn’t really look like we were there this soon. Unless Star had done a magic that I didn’t notice.
“Forest? Of course no! I found the right spot to rest for the night,” he said as he pointed to the spot.
I face hoofed as I heard him. “Seriously? After all of the times we wasted for taking breaks, you wanna stop for the night? The sun hasn’t even set!”
“C’mon Soar, there’s just few more minutes left till sunset and we have to find a spot without any Fairies,” said Star.
“Yeah, only sixty minutes,” I said with a roll of eyes.
“Whatever,” replied Starswirl. “Now, do me a favor and shake that wand.”
I sighed and grabbed the wand for the thousandth time that day. Although Star helped me get the Fairies away with his cloak but I’d also shook the wand enough to get annoyed. As all of the times before, some screaming appeared and flew away as they all muttered the same thing, ‘you’ll pay for this’. I’m wondering if they know anything except from that…
“Great! Now I can set up the protection spell. Fairies won’t even get close to us while we’re resting through the night,” said Star. He began casting the spell and made a big shield like a huge bubble around us.
“Now what?” I asked. “Let me guess, some more resting?”
“What else? Resting and reading books is the best thing in the world!”
“For you. Not me. Walking is the best thing I can think of now.”
“Walking is always the best thing you can thing of!” he said with a roll of eyes. “However, will you make dinner or I’ll do it. Although I already know the answer…”
“Then why don’t you start cooking if you already know the answer, Mr. Chef!” I said as I lay down on the solid ground.
“Just as I thought,” muttered Star.
Princess’s P.O.V.
“You’re highness, one of the prisoners permits for talking to thou,” said one of the guards.
“Let them in,” I said nonchalantly. The guard bowed quickly and ran out of the door. Even the poor guard knew I wasn’t in mood for talking and I was annoyed enough to kick him out of the castle if he stayed any time longer.
“Here she is your highness,” said the guard as he came back in with the prisoner. He shoved her forward and left the room as he made sure his duty was done.
“Speak,” I said.
“Your highness, I won’t get your time so much. I already know how annoyed you are of the princess duties,” the prisoner said.
What she said made me sit right up and look at her with a raised eyebrow. “How do you know?”
“Before your sister threw me in the jail, I used to be an expert psychic,” she answered rather rudely.
That was why I frowned and said, “Speak of my sister properly or your punishment will be doubled!”
Her face suddenly showed tinges of fear and she quickly said, “No you’re highness! Your sister is great but she threw me in the jail for the wrong reasons. I was just a poor psychic who made money out of telling pony’s future but the old princess thought that I’m a thief and threw me in the jail.”
“Well, what she did was right because you’re lying.”
“I’m not lying your highness. That’s why I came here. Sleep has gone away from my eyes for some nights and I see the future of thee twenty four seven your highness!”
“My… future? Do I even have a future? Always doing royal jobs and not a moment to blink. I thought you’re a psychic. How don’t you know of this?”
“I knew of your condition your highness. I know everything and more. Soon there will be a danger getting near and among all of the Fairies, it’ll be thee who shall stop the disaster but disaster won’t be stopped and you’re highness will fall in love with the one who’s trying to kill her!” said the psychic with fear.
I frowned. “How can I trust your blabbering?”
“Don’t you believe my words? It’s fine. I predict than your sister will enter right away groaning about weather Fairy’s bad job. I predict that she will began with this, ‘the more that passes the more I hate the disorders of town’,” said the psycho.
“We’ll see,” I said. Deep inside I knew that she was lying but a part of me was curious to see if she really is right or not. By the way, it was a good opportunity to rest a little. Few minutes passed and nothing happened except the fact that I felt sleepier than before.
I was about to open my mouth and say something to the fake psycho when my older sister burst into the room with a deep frown. She was muttering some things under her breath but they were audible due to the echo of the hall.
“The more that passes the more I hate the disorders of town,” she groaned. Then she huffed and walked up to me with lowered head. That was why she didn’t notice my dropped jaw and shocked expression. But wait… just a sentence couldn’t be a good evident. That psycho said that she was angry of the weather Fairy’s bad job.
“Um… what are you angry of?” I asked carefully.
“A lot of things but they all lead to one thing, weather Fairies! They don’t even know how to shape a simple cloud in the sky!” she said with a big frown. “UGH! I’LL FINALLY KILL MYSELF BECAUSE OF THEIR UNDISCIPLINED FAIRIES!” she shouted angrily.
“O-okay,” I said with wide eyes. Not because of her shouting but because of the fact that every single word of the psycho were true!
“Are you okay? You look like someone had struck you in head,” said my sister with surprised face.
“Oh! Oh! I did!” said the psycho excitedly but she quickly stopped herself when she met my sister’s glare. “Uh-oh…”
“What is this liar doing here? She thinks she’s a psycho but I can swear she had ran off of one of the madhouses!” said my sister.
“I don’t think so Twi. I mean, she predicted that you’d arrive while you mutter stuff about the weather Fairies. I think she really is a psycho,” I said to her.
“Oh my poor little sister, have she fooled you too?” said Twilight with a sigh.
“HEY!” I shouted. “You just take everything hard. What if she really is psycho? We can use her in the castle!”
“Rainbow are you kidding me? These things don’t exist at all. There’s just no proof for that,” said Twilight in a professional tone. I rolled my eyes. I knew I shouldn’t answer her but she was wrong. She might have been my older sister and of course wiser than me but she was just super overprotective. I mean who wants a proof for everything in the world and a proper reason for anything that happens around?
“Not all of the things have a proof!” said psycho as she wrapped her hoof around Twilight. Wait… when did she came up here?
“AAH!” shouted Twilight. The she looked at her with a glare. “Get off of me!”
“Okay you’re highness,” she said as she went back to her previous place in less than a blink.
“I do think that she’s good to work in castle but as a clown,” whispered Twilight.
“I can do any pranks if you want as a clown,” said the psycho as she appeared beside us again. This time she appeared beside my throne as she grin from ear to ear. Her silly grin disappeared as Twilight glared at her again. “Fiiiiine…” she said as she went back to where she used to be.
I giggled. “I like her.”
“But I don’t,” said Twilight flatly.
“C’mon Twi. Don’t be so uptight,” I said as I shoved her comically.
“Fine, but if you woke up and saw that the castle is gone don’t blame me,” she said with crossed hooves.
“Fine, whatever,” I said with a roll of eyes. “So psycho-”
“Please call me Pinkie princess Rainbow,” said the psycho…er, Pinkie.
“And whatever happened to the ‘you’re highness’?” said Twilight with glare.
“TWILIGHT!” I said angrily.
“Ugh! Fine!” she said with crossed hooves.
“Okay Pinkie, you have to get back to the jail till I get things ready but remember that the first thing I’ll do is asking you of my destiny,” I said.
“Yes you’re highness,” she said happily. Then she started bouncing out of the door.
“Aaaand the last Fairy to see for today,” I said as I closed my tired eyes with a smile.
“And the last job for today. Whew! Luckily, we have the whole afternoon to ourselves!” said Twilight as happily as me.
“And even something better! Dad comes back today!” I continued with a grin.
“Today’s gonna be the best day ever!” cheered Twilight happily. I stood up and we both walked to our rooms as we chatted happily.
