Intro
My name is Nick Carson. I am 22 years old, I live at the edge of a city that leads to a forest. I like to go on camping trips a lot because I love to escape from life and be with nature. I’m not a hippy I just like to camp a lot. I don’t know why its just when I went on my first camping trip with my family when I was 6 I’ve wanted to live in the forest ever since. Those were the good old days, playing and laughing with my family but now... We drifted apart and we hardly talk to one another. I don’t know what happened, we didn’t have any problems with each other but for some reason we hardly talk. Its weird, as the years went on by we talked less and less, to the point where it was just plain awkward to even say hi. I don’t really care for my family anymore since I moved out and now i’m on my own. I’m doing pretty good with the bills and I have a good job so life is good but it won’t be perfect until I get a house in the woods but at least I still camp there. The only problem I have is my trust problem, I have a very hard time believing and trusting people. I’ve never been deceived by people or anything, its just something thats been with me my whole life. Over the years my trust has grown but I still have a hard time when I meet someone I don’t know. Well no one is perfect, anyway I shouldn’t worry too much about this.
Chapter 1
The wonders of camping
Finally! I can go camping and have some time to myself again. God its bad enough I have to deal with people but I had to deal with my boss yelling his fat ass off at me. He only yelled at me for not getting the right coffee, I mean if its so important to you then get off your lazy ass and get it yourself. I’m glad I can go camping today since i’ve dealt with a lot of stuff for the past month. When I go camping I bring food, a tent, flashlights, a sleeping bag, a few extra clothes and a survival knife (or sword) I got from my dad. He gave it to me when I was 8 and he showed me how to use it as a weapon and how to make it useful. The blade is double edge and a foot and a half long, the hilt is big enough to where I hold it with both hands at once. I don’t know where it came from but my dad got from grandpa, and grandpa got it from his dad and so on and so forth. I don’t know why my dad called it a knife if its way bigger than a knife and it has a medieval look to it. From time to time I would play with it and pretend i’m some hero in some made up story. Just because i’m an adult doesn’t mean I can’t have some fun. I’ve kept this in top condition since my dad did the same and I don’t want to disrespect him or my elders. Its been with me ever since I got it and I haven’t forgotten it since. I’m no survival expert but I took a few classes on it and I can at least identify poisonous plants and what not. Only a few times I’ve gotten lost and have been rescued by the park rangers. I think this time i’m going to take my bike with me for this trip. The camping sight I go to is a few mile hike and I might get to the woods at night since the sun is setting. I packed my things into my SUV, turned off everything in my house, made sure I didn’t forget anything and headed off to the woods. They say you shouldn’t head into the woods at night since dangerous animals come out but i’ve it done it a ton of times. By the time I got there it was already dark and I had a long way to go. I parked my car, got my things out, got my bike out and set a flashlight on it and headed towards my campsite. On foot its takes a few hours but on bike its only a 30 minute ride but you gotta be careful when you’re biking it there. The dirt can sometime be muddy and you could end up flipping your bike and hurting yourself pretty badly. I’ve done it a few time but I never broke anything or got hurt too badly. By the time I got to my camp spot it looked the same as I left it. Same bonfire at the middle and a few of my foot prints were still around. I set up my tent, made a fire and relax and listened to the nightly creature make their noises. I almost ended up passing out so I headed into my tent and called it a night since it was already dark. By the time I woke up the sun was barely up and I could see a few deer walking around. They raised their heads and stared at me for a moment then went back to walking. I love it when its the morning because you can see so many animals walking around. Its just so peaceful and relaxing. Once I had enough of watching the animals I ate some food and walked around in the woods for abit. Of course I take my knife (or sword) with me when I go on these walks. Its funny how I always feel like i’m a knight on a quest to save someone when I walk around. There’s a lake that's pretty close to my camp spot and I go there to wash up. Sure its freezing in the water but i’m used to the cold so it doesn’t bother me. After that I went back to walking in the woods. A few hours later I got tired so I back tracked my way back and found a few deer sniffing around for my food. I scared them off by screaming and swinging my weapon like a madman. After that I had some lunch and sat around for awhile until it got dark then I made the fire and sat around for abit. I watched as the fireflies flew around me and glowed happily to one another. I don’t know what it means when they do that but its pretty neat when they do. Luckily the smoke from the fire drives away the mosquitoes so I don’t get swarmed by them. Once it was fully dark and the moon was out I laid down and stared at it for a few hours until I pass out from exhaustion. I ended up waking up to a deer sniffing me and thinking i’m dead or something. Once it saw me open my eyes and take a breath it ran off somewhere. Stupid deer, thinking i’m food or something. I don’t have a problem with them its just they can be annoying from time to time. After that I had breakfast and did the same, sat, walked to lake and cleaned myself and went back to my spot. I don’t do much here but I just love the outdoors and whatnot. I just wish I could live in the woods forever and have no problems with anything. It’d just be me and nature and I wouldn’t get lonely or anything. (sigh) life can be a bitch from time to time.
