I would have never imagined being kicked off the wrestling team my junior yea
r. It was one day during practice, we had just got done with our warm up when the coached called me over. I was a little suspicious because I was the only one called over. When I got over there the coach said “ Take a look at this” as he showed me my grades. You had to have a 2.0 to stay in the sport and I did not. My heart sank because I didn’t know what to tell my parent, I felt is as I have failed them. But I thought to myself that there must be something that I can do.
After I was told this news I sat out till the end of the practice. When everyone were getting ready to leave I went up to the coach and asked him if there is anything I can do to get back on the team. He told me I could if I were to get to of my grades from the last term to bump up one grade level and talk to the sports director I could get back on the team. If there was a chance to get back on the team it was better than no chance at all.
The first thing I did the next day was go to my world history teachers glass to go talk to him about my grades from last term. He was very nice man that I was very good friends with. When I got there I sat down with him and explain my situation about the wrestling team and my grades. I ask if there was any thing I can do but he told me that he will just bump my grade up since my grade was so close to being a B. After I heard this I felt a little stress come off my shoulder for I got one of my grades down and had to get one more up to get back to the team.
Next was my Spanish teacher, she was a nice lady that had a short temper at times. As I got to her class I sat down with her and had to explain again about my situation. She then told me that I could make up a couple of test that I got very low scores on. We set up a date to were I would take them, so I thanked her and later that day at home I study as hard as I could to be prepared for the test. When the day came I took the test and got my grade up making me less stressed and more happy. All I had to do now was talk to the sports director.
It was a hassle to try and talk to this guy, he would call me up to his office but when I get there he already be gone. He would also not respond to any of my emails which kind of made me a little frustrated. I was worried that maybe he wont let me back on the team, that I would have let my parents down. When I thought all hope was lost I was notified by my coach that I was able to join back on the team. I was so relieved and didn’t have to worry anymore.
This whole experience has taught me a good lesson, that school is important and to not take it to lightly. Imp not a very smart kid and get very decent grade if I put effort into my school. My family has always told me to thrive in school and never realized how important it is until that year.
