Mara, the mother-goddess/goddess of love of the world of Nirn, was looking at other mortal worlds far beyond the solar system of Mundus when her sights landed on Princess Cadence and Shining Armor. Sensing both their love for each other and kinship with Cadence, Mara's attention was held. She grew fond of the couple and was happy for them when Shining proposed, however, there was a dastardly plan about to unfold by the hooves of a certain bug pony. Mara will not simply let one of the events she cherishes the most be ruined.

It's time to call in the dragonborn.
