Dragon Lord Ember; many have claimed the title of Dragon Lord, but none have deserved the role more than Ember. It takes a brave dragon to fight his own battles. It takes a braver dragon to ask for help, and Ember was the bravest yet. Her rise to power was predicated on her fighting her self-preservation instincts and aiding a friend, who in turn aided her.

Dragon-Guard of the Elements of Harmony: Spike; His first taste of fame came from the Crystal Empire, when he was depicted as the one who defeated King Sombra. Later, Spike was known as Timber Hunter after saving a group of touring ponies from their ill-thought venture into the Everfree Forest (which earned them an ambush from Timber Wolves). As the years went by, and the generations rose and fell, Spike was given the most difficult task he could have ever been assigned. Dragon-Guard of the Elements of Harmony: a glorified title for "crypt-keeper". With the eventual passing of his and Princess Twilight's best friends, a special tomb was erected in their honor, and Spike's job was to guard it. It was a role in which he received both pride and pain.

Dragon Lord Ember, having been overthrown after decades of rule, was left a wanderer. Spike, after decades of service to the Equestrian throne, felt that the pain of his job overshadowed the pride it offered. And resigned. Fate would bring these two emotionally defeated dragons together, and their combined strength would carry them higher than ever before.
