Dimensions
V - Flinching
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe sound of hooves galloping echoed through the dark cavern, as well as drips of water coming from the ceiling. A pony trotted through the cave, aware of any wall or obstacle that comes in front of her without needing to see it. She was an earth pony, but not like the others. Her cutiemark was replaced with an 'error' sign, and the only vibrant colour on her was her mane, tail, and the tears that were affixed to her face.
She edged closer to the end of the damp cave, yet she knew what to do when she reached her destination. She grinned, showing yellow, disgusting teeth that had been destroyed by sweets that were stuck in between them. As she came up to the wall, her eyes glowed a deadly red colour. She stomped with one of her hooves, creating a small sound wave that pushed away some dust. After a small pause, the earth started quaking.
Rocks shuddered and the drips of water poured down faster. The wall before this earth pony began to crack and rumble. All the pony did was smile as she watched her plan go into action. As the cracks became larger and larger, a white light brightened up the cavern.
After the light had faded, there before the pony was a portal. Grinning, the earth pony stepped one hoof at a time into the new world that she had opened up. She looked as if she had been their before. On the other side, everything was white. No living thing in sight. What use could this new world be?
Midnight walked back into her shack, closing the door behind her. She turned to her guests, and then sat back down at her chair, and began reading once more.
"I'm sorry for the wait." Midnight pursued. "Just a little bit more reading, and I will be able to tell you some more."
"Yeah, we've been thinking..." Dash hovered in the air. "We wanna help."
"No." Midnight felt like slamming her hoof on the table again. "I don't need-"
"Our help? Yeah, we get that." Rainbow landed, folding in her wings. "But we're helping whether you like it or not."
Midnight stared at the group of ponies. "And your friends agreed with this?"
"We want to help." Starlight Glimmer argued. "It's our world too, not just yours."
"And I know how we're going to help!" Twilight smiled softly at Midnight, giving her a reassuring look. "Please, just give us a chance?"
Midnight looked side to side at the ponies, the dragon and the draconequus in disappointed. She knew that they would end up helping her in the first place, but it them helping could put everyone in danger. Midnight didn't tell them even one of the possible horrible things that would happen to them if they were killed by the dimension glitch. Or what the result of protecting a dimension leads to.
"I'm guessing I have no choice here..." Midnight sighed, glancing over at her book. "Fine. I guess."
"Thank you for giving us a chance." Twilight smiled with glee. "You will not regret-"
"Spare me your long monologue." Midnight rolled her eyes. "Just know that it won't be me that will regret this decision. It would most likely be you." Midnight turned back to her book.
"Hey! I have a couple of questions about dimensions." Discord put up his hand politely.
"What would someone like you want to know about dimensions?" Midnight was obviously still angry at Discord.
"Well..." He started sweating nervously. "What are they like?"
"Most dimensions are nice. Most are bad. It's 50-50, I guess."
"Oh..." Discord frowned. "Can you be a little specific?"
"Some are good, some are bad." Midnight repeated. "I created them to be so."
"Why did you create bad ones, then?"
"To keep it balanced." Midnight turned away from her book. "It would be a bit bland if all dimensions were good."
"Good point..." Discord tapped his chin. "But what else can you tell us about dimensions?"
"Some dimensions are simply games or T.V shows for other dimensions. For example, we could be a T.V show for one dimension, or a game for another. Heck, this whole thing could be a fan-fiction on a website for people that like said T.V show." Midnight said, ignoring the author's silent attempt to stop her from breaking the fourth wall. "Though-"
Before Midnight could finish, she flinched, and toppled on to the floor. Spike and Applejack ran over to help her up, but as she got up half-way, she flinched again, and fell once more. She rubbed her head, and started to get a migraine, as the ringing in her ears became louder and louder. Finally, her eyes twitched, and she stood up straight as her eyes started flashing different colours every millisecond.
Everyone covered their eyes, as the flashing lights almost gave them seizures. Finally, Midnight blinked, and stumbled back on to the ground, shaking her head as the ringing leaves her eardrums.
"Are ya okay, sugarcube?" Applejack helped her up once more.
"Y-Yeah..." Midnight squeaked, regaining her balance.
"Wha... What happened..?" Fluttershy whispered, quivering in the corner.
"Nothing good, I don't think." Twilight yelped, turning to Fluttershy, and then back to Midnight.
"That one.... Was a doozie...." Midnight panted. "Something's happened...."
"What do you mean, darling?" Rarity asked, still covering her eyes.
"This dimension... It's corrupting even faster than I had expected..." Midnight gasped for breath. "It... This... It's going to be harder than I thought...."
Everyone looked around at each other, and then back at the whimpering white mare. She wasn't scared, and she had managed to regain her breath quickly, but she looked more angrier than scared. Now, everything has gotten more serious. And Midnight cannot wait around much longer to fix this.
