The Elder Scrolls MLP: Dawnguardby CayKobChaptersChapter 1: RecruitChapter 2: The BasicsPrologueChapter 1: Recruit"I bucking hate rain!" Spirit Blade, an Earth Pony, cursed to himself upon entering his home. "Well, at least I'm home from the fields. That place is just a dead-end job." Even through his extreme hatred for his current life, he had one thing to look forward to; his sword his Father passed down to him, who which received it from Blade's Grandfather, And so on. He sulkingly threw his hat into the corner and carefully lifted the sword from its mount on the wall. He hasn't given it a name, so he just calls it his sword. After admiring its gleam from the torch-light, he raised a hatch on the ground, revealing a small staircase to a basement. After pacing down the stairs, he scanned the room for his old training dummy; an old food sack stuffed with gravel hanging on a rope from the ceiling. "Well." Spirit said to sorry-looking thing, slowly walking up to it. "You still don't think I've done my worst on you, eh? Well, I'll show you how the Blade family gets it done. I don't think I'll be able to stitch you up after I'm done." The young stallion gripped the sword in his mouth and took a swing at the dummy. It just lazily swang back and forth, a small ammount of gravel seeping out of the cut. He sliced it a couple more times just like this, but then stopped. Is this how he was going to live the rest of his life? Just as the question finished echoing through his head, a knock on the door startled him. Who in the world could that be? The only person he knew that lived in this general area is his one friend, Overlook. He worked during the night and slept during the day, but according to the sun's last position and his own track of time, it was only about 6:00 in the afternoon. He trotted up the stairs and slowly creaked the door open. A Unicorn in a simple brown robe was standing on his doormat. "Are you Spirit of the Blade family?" The mysterious mare asked. He hesitated a bit, but swallowed and answered. "Y-yes I am. And w-who are you?" For some reason, this pony made him nervous. "That's not important now. What IS important is the fact that you come with me RIGHT NOW." Spirit was extremely reluctant on answering. "O-okay... what do I need to bring?" "Nothing. Absolutely nothing. If you are to bring ANYTHING it would be a weapon. Now would you by any chance have something like that?" The mare asked. "Well... yeah. It's in the house. Let me grab it real fast..." Spirit Blade swiftly latched the door in place and grasped the sword in it's sheath with his mouth. He returned to the door right after and it glided open. "Great. Now let's go. And just so you know, I'm Shadelash." Shadelash started a steady trot to the North. Spirit eventually caught up with her. "So, where are we going?" He asked. "The Dawnguard's cistern." "The Dawnguard? This is the first I've heard of that term... so who are they?" "I'll explain everything when we get there, but for now we have to move! Quickly!" By now Shadelash was at a full gallop. Spirit followed. After about an hour, they finally came to a stop, not that they already were completely exausted. Spirit Blade just collapsed on the floor, and Shadelash leaned up against a wall. "It's me! Shadelash! Open the door, will you?" Shadelash shouted into what appeared the sky. About a second later, a crevice was revealed in the wall, taking the shape of an oval. A portion of the rock then slid back and to the side, showing a lit staircase. "Come in here. This is the cistern." Shade stumbled in, Spirit following. It only took but 10 seconds to reach the other end of the tunnel, but probably an entire life-time before Spirit would forget what he saw. It was amazing. An enourmous cavern was lit by a concealed hole in the roof. About half of the floor was a lake, and a four-way bridge over it. And multiple doors just lined up on the wall. An entire half of the remaining space was dedicated to a garden of wheat and oats. And the other half was stocked with weapon racks, so many, not even enough to count. Or at least even TRY to count! Many training dummies, (actual figures of ponies, not sacks of gravel) took up the remainder of the space. Only a small stone path allowed room to walk. The floor was just simple dirt, but that didn't even begin to match up to what Spirit's eyes are telling him. He was so enthralled that he didn't notice another stallion walk up to him. "So you're the new guy, eh?" He asked. Chapter 2: The Basics"Let me introduce myself." The winged stallion continued. "My name is... Spirit!!! What are you doing in the Dawnguard?!?!" Spirit instantly recognized him. The stallion standing before him was Overlook, his friend who supposedly patrolled the walls of his home city at night. Who would've known he was part of the Dawnguard? "Well, this is fortunate! It's nice to have a friend here at the Dawnguard! I'm in control of the entrance and surveillence. Not to mention I'm also the archer. The reason we needed you, if I remember, is because you have a weapon of great importance. And you're estimated to be the only one who's able to use it." Spirit stopped him right there. "Wait, wait. MY sword? GREAT importance? My sword was just a hand-me-down from my Dad!" While finishing his statement, he unsheathed his sword from it's sheath which was strapped to his back. The sword took an appearence of just a simple, straight iron line with a petrified wood hilt and a stone handle. "There's nothing special about this sword!" "I'm also guessing. Why in the world would Number 7 need this?" Shadelash added to the conversation. "'Number 7'?" Spirit mimicked in confusion. "The Dawnguard isn't anything new, so our past and future leaders are given a number. We're on our seventh." Overlook answered. Spirit carefully slid the sword back in it's sheath. "Alright... so, now that I know about why you guys need me and how your leaders get their names, what exactly DOES the Dawnguard do?" Spirit asked. "I'm glad you asked!" Shade blurted before Overlook could say a single word. "You see that door at the other end of the cistern?" Spirit immediantely located a large, bronze door where Shade pointed out. "In there is The Pendalum, it's what gives us Day and Night. Our job is to make sure it stays like that forever. Now also, we have a job for you... actually, we've been needing somepony to do this for a while. We've heard of some threats off to the East of the Cistern, not too far away. You could get there just by walking." Spirit's attention was focused on the weapon racks still. But he kind of heard what he had to do. Kind of. "We need you to go there and just make sure it's all just a rumor. If it isn't, just run back here. We can take care of any trouble. Got all that?" Spirit shook his head while trying to put his attention back on Shadelash. "Uuh, erm, got it!" "But before you go, we need your sword real quick." "Okay, but make sure it's fast." Spirit mumbled through gritted teeth as he once more pulled the sword from his back. Shadelash snatched it from his mouth and galloped towards the Bronze Door. "You'll need to come with us." Overlook said to him, flying off soon after. Spirit trotted calmly along, not minding his slow pace after Shadelash seemed in such a hurry. He didn't really have any oppositions about what was happening to him. Only if this was better than working the fields, he felt blessed to be here. After only a couple seconds, he halted at the large door, with a height of 3 ponies and the width of 7. They broke at the middle, opening up as if they were bound to swallow him. But they just stood there. Not moving. "You might want to come inside." Overlook whispered to him, hovering only a couple inches away from him. Spirit, consumed by inexplainable fear, slowly paced in. The room was very, very dense. As if he was actually underwater, but not. In the middle of the room, coated in a glass case, was a simple, golden pendalum, swinging hypnotically back and forth. In the exact time of seconds. Back, one second, forth, another second. Repeating this process. Shadelash carefully lifted the glass casing off, and gently placed it to the side. With Spirit's sword in her mouth she leaned in towards the pendalum. The pendalum skimmed the tip of the sword, allowing the blade to crumble into dust. "MY SWORD!" Spirit screamed. "Hold on, now. Hold the hilt." Shade placed it on the ground in front of Spirit, like offering candy to Nightmare Moon. Spirit hesitantly gripped it in his teeth, and a ominous golden glow seeped out of where the blade used to connect to the hilt. A golden streak shot out of the hilt, abruptly stopped, then completed a sword-like pattern, returning to the hilt. The line glowed, and filled in. The DawnBreaker has awoken. The hilt also changed, but Spirit was too utterly baffled at what just happened to notice it. It followed the same design as before, a light, breezy cage was holding an orb of light in the center of the hilt. Golden hawk wings spread from the cage, glistening in the dimly-lit cavern. The handle was just a simple, gold rod. At the end other end of the handle was a bland, silver ball. "Number 7 MIGHT want to see this... " Overlook commented. "Naww, really?" Shadelash sassed back. PrologueThe Elder Scrolls VI: Dawngaurd "Welcome, all of you. I'm very honored at the fact that even all 3 princesses were eager to attend this reenactment! Today, I would like to tell you a tale, a tale that took place over thousands of years ago, even before the founding of Equestria and the rule of the princesses! Like Nightmare Moon, this pony was not very... fond of the sun. His desire was to end its "tyranny" forever. And trust me when I say this, he was not alone. Hundreds of others, pegasus, unicorn, and Earth ponies, were all part of this dastardly plan." The lights dim, and seconds later, a single spotlight shone over a single pony, a legendary alicorn to go into detail. This pony was pacing impatiently back and forth in what looked very much like a dungeon. His tone signaled that he was adressing a group of others, size unknown. After a couple seconds more of pacing, he took a stand in the center of the room. He silently and quickly took in a breath of air, and began to speak in a deep and mysterious tone that had almost the same effect on ponies as Fluttershy's stare. "But what is it you seek? Is it to become one of us? To make the darkness your own? Or, will you join them, The Dawnguard? They think they can stop us. But we will hunt them down, every last one of them... with thier heads on stakes. And we will find the long-lost sources of infinite knowledge, the Elder Scrolls, and use their power to end the tryanny of the sun." His voice echoed through the whole building. The other lights, one by one, lit up the entire stage, revealing what looked like an army. Each and every pony had a very simple design of black cloth, with a red, lightning-looking insignia on the chest. Except for the leader, Lord Nightfall. His design was very similar, simple, black cloth... except with a long, drooped cape attached to his shoulders. The same insignia was on the back of his cape, and he wore a crown, looking more like Twilight's Element of Harmony, except represented the night. A purple, moon-shaped amethyst was lodged in the center of the crown. It had an ominous glow to it. By now, the play had phased into an actual scene, much like the episode "Hearth's Warming Eve." "Are all of you up to the task? Will you back down from minor challenges, seperating us from our desire? Or will you power through, devote your own life to what is right in this world? Will you set this world straight!?" As Nightfall's last word bouced multiple times through everypony's ear, the rest of the ponies following his rule burst out into a cheer of approval, and the scene faded out, ominously. End of Prologue.
