Years in the future, or is it?
Dear Diary,
I think I'm alone now, but I'm not too sure. They said they were going to go with the plan with or without me, so there's that. Scoots says it'll get us out of here but I'm not too sure. I mean, a Reset? How's that going to help, we can't win. This game is just a huge waste of time I say, but will the others listen? No. Of course not, they have every reason not to. I'm the one that got us in this mess anyways. I shouldn’t have listened to what those things had to say, but it was so tempting. Just another screw up for Spike huh?
Well it’s fine by me if they keep to this stupid plan without me! They can rot in Tartarus for all I care. They do nothing but hurt me and get me all sucked up in their messes along with mine! Well I won’t put up with it anymore! They can just DIE...
Celestia what’s wrong with me? Did I really just write that? They’re my friends! I should help them, even if it get’s me killed along with them, even if I think it’s stupid. It’s not like there’s a world we can accidentally end right? Okay, too soon. Even after months. This thing is so frustrating and those darn sprites don’t help at all either. Look at me, I can’t even stay on topic. I guess this is it though. Either this plan miraculously works and we get another shot or it fails and we die. Come to think of it, a few months ago I’d be so scared I wouldn’t be able to stand, but now I’m talking about death so casually. After everything I guess I’ve become more than a little jaded.
This whole thing is such a mess. Ever since the thing with Dash, Scoots changed. She’s been a bit distant for a while and now she says she’s come up with an idea to fix everything. Whenever somepony talks back to her she starts yelling. She almost killed AB for being snarky. Everyone’s so different now, I would think they were Changelings if I wasn’t the reason for it happening.
You know what? I’m going to help them. I just might be able to make this plan of hers work. I said this before, I’m their friend, I’m going to help them if it kills me.
Because of that, I’m pretty sure this’ll be my last entry. So I’ll thank you for keeping me company these past few months. I’m sure I’d have gone crazy without you here to write in. So thanks Mr. Diary! For helping me through these past few months. It means a lot.
Goodbye, Spike
He closed the Diary slowly, careful not to rip it’s already tattered exterior. Who knew so much could happen in just a few months? It’s cover, with a six pointed starburst symbol emblazoning it, was discolored. What used to be a vibrant lavender was now a mottled brown. The corners were all but destroyed, and if one were to look inside they’d see a mixture of burned and soaked pages. Each one filled with text. Each one personal. Each one about to be destroyed.
With a deep exhale emerald flames spewed from the young dragon’s maw, engulfing the Diary the boy cared so deeply about and turning it into ash. Once upon a time he’d wail to the skies dramatically, but he had no time for that. His friends needed him. He quickly moved toward the large double doors of the once magnificent castle, now covered in dust and graffiti from his dreamself. Twilight would be disappointed to see it in such condition, but she wasn’t there. Spike didn’t know where she was actually, maybe still exploring his Land. Maybe after the Reset she wouldn’t be angry with him anymore.
With that thought his movements quickened even more. He burst through the double doors with tears falling from his eye. He would make everything better, just like Scoots said they would. He ran through the large, empty hallways recalling the fun he used to have with his friends. He remembered the sconces lining the crystal halls being lit with a magical fire. Passing the throne room, he remembered the Cutie-Map and the problems his friends had solved together. He passed the library and remembered late night study sessions with his mother, learning all there was to know about everything they could think of. After what felt like hours of running and nostalgia he came across the castle entrance. It’s gigantic golden entryway had fallen to the forces of nature, leaving a large frame in it’s stead.
He crossed the threshold into the everlasting storm of his Land. He had spent so much time exploring it he knew it like the back of his claw. But this trip wasn’t for exploring. He spread his large lavender and emerald wings to soar up to his First Gate, one of seven. It was lucky for him that Sweetie Belle’s Land was only one Gate away, else he’d find himself lost on another’s Land.
Passing through the Gates was so common for him he’d grown accustomed to the instant of agony that came with their traversal, but no matter what they tried they never could rid themselves of the pain entirely. With a flash of lavender light he appeared in the Land of Scones and Song, the smell of pastries filled the air accompanied by a sweet melody of unknown origin. At a time they speculated that it was her Denizen’s work, but they never could find Hephaestus to ask him. Never mind that, what he was searching for was the gigantic microphone that Scoots had mentioned.
He turned left and right, hovering over the Carousel Boutique, formerly the home of his crush Rarity. He was beginning to become frantic when he spotted it in the distance, a building sized microphone and speaker. He quickly flew over to the top of the speaker, hoping to find his friends. When he arrived nopony was there. Fearing that they had already started he shot up to the hovering microphone above, only to find something he hadn’t ever wanted to see.
Standing atop the mic was Scootaloo, covered in blood and their friends’ bodies lying to and fro, all of them dead. All of them with expressions of surprise etched on their deceased faces. When she turned to see him hovering nearby, he saw her sword, floating in her purple magic, covered in blood as well. He saw the tears in her eyes and the grin on her face. Her blue hood dancing in the wind, she said but one thing. One thing that stunned Spike to no end.
“Help me.”
