Prologue: Jacinto's Final Stand

For 15 years, the Humans of Sera have fought against the Hordes of Locust in order to merely survive. And though they fought to the best of their abilities, the Locust just kept coming. Now Jacinto, the last mega-city, is hanging on by a thread. Chairman Prescott, after being under siege for so long, order all COG soldiers to make one final stand.

If they were to go extinct, they were going to make it memorable.

With a new type of bomb, called the ‘Omega Bomb’, this was going it’s first and only field test. No one fully knows how it works, but they were going to detonate it to try and take the Locust with them.

And so, the COG Military pulled out everything in order to make sure they would make the Locust feel how serious they were. All vehicles and weapons were to be used in this one, final, defensive. From Mark 2 Lancers to all the King Ravens, the COG pulled out everything in this last stand against their enemy.

With a timer now active and the Locust Horde coming at them with next to everything they have themselves, the final battle now begins.

Jacinto - 10 Minutes before ‘Omega Bomb’ detonation

“TAKE COVER!!!” Marcus Fenix yelled over the roar of gunfire.

Him and the rest of the Gears had been pushed all the way back to the building that held that new bomb. He wasn’t one to go out like this, but as the old saying goes in the COG: ‘Shut up and roll with it.’ So if they were to go down, they were going down guns blazing.

“~Control to Delta Squad, Marcus, how do things look out there?~” Anya asked over the comlink.

Marcus put his finger to his ear “What do you think?!” he questioned as an explosion from a grenade goes off a few feet away.

“~Horrible, got it. Anyway listen, the bomb with be going off in T-minus ten minutes. And the Hammer of Dawn is now online.~” she told him.

“That just made my day.” Marcus said as he turned to his brother Dom “Hey Dom! The Hammer is ready to fire!”

“About time!” Dom said as pulled out a targeting gun and pointed it at an incoming Brumaks.

As the laser beam comes down from above, two King Ravens fly over head and mow down hundreds of Locust in the courtyard. Suddenly, a Reaver comes up from behind one of the Ravens and shoots it down. As soon as that happened, the other Raven chases after it.

“~KR 24 is down, repeat, 24 is down! I’ve got that bastard, he’s going no where!~” the comlink says as Delta Squad continues firing.

“Cole, Baird, get back inside and get ready to barricade the doors!” Marcus yells as he uses his Lancer’s chainsaw to cut a Grub in half "We'll shoot them from the windows."

Both soldiers nod and get moving.

"~Control to Delta, new orders: We need help in here Marcus, Wretches got in! Hurry!~" Anya yells.

The Sargent groans and replies "Wilco, Delta's on it's way! Just stay safe, Anya!" he turns to his squad mates "Baird, you're with me! Dom, Cole, hold down the fort!"

Marcus and Baird ran into the control room to find Coronal Hoffman shoving a shotgun down a Wretch’s throat and pulling the trigger. As it’s brain matter splatters on the wall, Marcus spots Anya cornered by two more.

With a pistol in hand, she kills one of them, but the other slashes at her leg. She grunts and kicks it away, giving Marcus a chance to shoot it. Once the little freak was dead, he ran over to her.

“How bad?” he asks her, a little worried.

She shakes her head “Not as bad as it looks…” she tells him “I’ll live.”

Marcus smiles “Feisty, I like that in a girl.” he said helping her to a chair.

“Ha ha ha.” she said, sarcastically.

After another round of gunfire, Baird calls out “All clear.”

“-T-minus five minutes till detonation-” an overhead com says.

Marcus sighs as he looks at Anya. Really looked. She just smiled and stared back. No words were ever said for none were needed to be said.

Baird glanced over and groaned “Would you two just kiss for god’s sake!”

Marcus frowned and turned to him “Baird, shut up.” he said flatly before the building suddenly shook violently, knocking everyone to the floor.

“The hell was that?” Hoffman asked looking around.

He got his answer when a double door blew open and Locust Grubs began entering the room. Marcus flipped a steel table over and pulled Anya behind it for cover. Baird and Hoffman were already blasting away when Marcus popped up and slashed at a Grub with his Lancer.

As more Locust started filling the room, the bomb’s clock continued to wind down to zero.

“-T-minus one minute till detonation-”

Marcus dropped down into cover again and glanced at Anya. And glanced at him. Both smile and nod. They interlock their hands and waited for it to end.

Outside, COG soldiers continue firing at their enemy with everything they have.

Despite knowing they were all about to die, all Gears had smiles on their faces. Even as they were gunned down by the Locust. Just knowing that they gave it their all was enough to bring smiles to their faces.

“-5… 4… 3… 2… 1…-”

Their was a pop. And then, all at once, the entire city of Jacinto is consumed by a massive dome of light.

Locust that saw it coming tried to run, but weren’t fast enough.

The only thing left of city once the light faded away was nothing but a giant hole in the ground.

Unknown Location, Night Time

The sound of rain falling and hitting the metal roof reaches Marcus’s ears first. After a moment, he opened his eyes and looks over to Anya.

When he finds a very brightly colored horse next to him, he quickly wakes up. When he noticed that the horse was wearing the same uniform as Anya did. A thought crossed his mind.

He looked down at himself next.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me…”
