The story takes place 500 years before the events of Friendship is magic take place. King sombra's war comes to an end and a group of ponies meet with princess celestia and Luna and they unite to protect Equestria from a new evil that is rising.

500 years before the birth of Twilight North Star a young general in the army of Equestria fights for its freedom from king sombra. While the war rages Celestia and Luna are on the run from an unknown enemy who swore to capture them. The two will unite and will meet many new friends along their journey to face the oncoming darkness that is growing and it will be up to North Star to make a difficult decision that will decide the fate of Equestria.
