Knocking On Gods Door

Previous Chapter

POV Twilight

The world slowly came back to me as my mind swapped from sleeping to wakefulness. After I wipe the sleep from my eyes I look at the clock on the small table next to my bed. It reads eleven... just great. I doubt I'll be able to go back to sleep so I get up and get dressed. Once I'm all set I leave my room and begin to wander the halls of my foalhood home after I became Celestia's personal student. As I walked along the halls I started to feel something pulling me in a certain direction, Knowing the castle had several hidden rooms that even I hadn't found yet I let the feeling guide me. Eventually I came to a solid looking wooden door in a corridoor I had never seen before. Something was telling me to go through the door.

Reaching forward I grasped the handle with my hand and pulled it open, immediately I'm blinded by a bright light. When I can see again I look at my surroundings and notice that I'm no longer in a dimly lit hall but a brightly lit room. Looking behind me I see an exact copy of the door I entered from, I wanted to say it was the same dor but somehow it didn't feel like it was. Ever since becoming an alicorn I've learned to trust the feelings I often got about things around me because more often than not they were correct.

Looking back in front of me I notice another door set into the far wall, walking towards it weaving my way around the covered pots on the floor. Opening the door I walk through and find myself in a rather large common room of sorts, it had tables and chairs scattered around with a fireplace off to the side.

The sound of china clinking together brought my attention to one of the far tables and what I saw nearly made me faint. Sitting at the table was a bipedal creature, but what startled me the most was its appearance. It had red hair and red eyes and wore red pajama like clothing, exactly like what Celestia described the Guardian to look like!

"Hello young one, What brings you to visit little old me... hm?" He spoke, glancing up from the book he held in his hand.

"W-well I was just wandering the castle and then I found this strange door I had never seen before, I opened it and then I found myself in the room through the door behind me." I said in a nervous voice, which he must have noticed.

"You don't have to be scared around me young one. Come and sit for a while." He said motioning to the other chair at the table he was at. Making my way over to the table I sat in the chair he pointed out and waited patiently for him to speak. "So it seems that door still exists even after all this time eh? Good I wasn't looking forward to making another one. But let me ask you something little filly... what is your name?"

"M-my name is Twilight Sparkle" I respond still a little nervous, from what princess Celestia had told us he was a very powerful being so I thought it was best not to upset him.

He seemed to jump a bit when he heard my name. "So the sparkle clan is still kicking as well? That is most interesting indeed. Now miss sparkle is there anything on your mind that you wish to talk about?" He said not looking up from his book except to take a sip of what I can now tell is tea.

By now my nervousness had almost completely faded away as a calmness seemed to radiate from the being in front of me. "You're the one known as the Guardian aren't you?" I ask trying to make sure I wasn't just seeing things.

"Hmm, you could say that yes. Though I haven't been around for quite some time. Now I get to ask a question, How do you know that title?" He replied setting down his book for the first time since I had entered the room.

"Well Princess Celestia told me and my friends about you. She hasn't told us everything but she told us what you looked like and when she first met you." I said as he raised a brow at the mention of the princess.

"And how does this Princess Celestia person know about me? I don't recall ever meeting a pony by that name. The only ponies I ever interacted with were my two students." He said taking a sip of his tea.

"What were your students names?" I ask hoping he would tell me.

"They were known as Sunbeam and Starshine, they were alicorns not unlike yourself, Sunbeam had a white coat with a pink undertone to it and a pink mane while Starshine was a cobalt blue and lighter blue mane. However once their training was complete their manes changed to an ethereal form, Sunbeam had an aroura borealis and Starshine had a starry night sky for manes."

"Thats exactly what Princess Celestia and Luna look like!" I exclaimed.

"So they are known as Celestia and Luna now? I figured they would have passed on a long time ago but it seems even they are meant to stay." He said with a smile on his face. Now miss sparkle is there anything else you wish to talk about?"

"Well I would like to ask you a few questions about this place if you don't mind." I say as I look around the room.

"Do you mean this room or the structure?" He replied with a slight smirk.

"I meant the structure if you don't mind." I say not noticing the smirk.

"Well currently we are in the sitting room of my home, where we are is a little hard to explain without you freaking out." He said dropping the smirk and replacing it with a calm expression

"What do you mean?" I ask almost afraid of the answer.

"My home floats in the upper atmosphere miss sparkle, I wasn't sure how well you would take that. I know Starshine wasn't very receptive when I told her. She hyperventilated and passed out." He said with a chuckle.

"Really? How do you keep it up in the air like that?" I ask not really sure i believe what he just told me.

"I don't honestly know how it happens miss sparkle" He said draining the last of his tea. "But as with anything on this planet... it can probably be explained through magic or something like that. Now before we go into other things... I have to know something, What is most important to you?"

I close my eyes and think for a moment, the first things to come to mind are my studies and magic. But then my mind passes one of the many happy memories I have of me and my friends going o the park for a picnic or having a sleepover at the library. "The most important things to me are my friends and family." I say with a wide smile.

"Impressive, and how did you come to that conclusion miss sparkle?" He continued.

"I thought about all the good times we've had together how happy my life has become since I met them all." I reply still thinking of them. "I would give everything for my friends."

"I'm happy to hear you say that, Element of Magic." I look up and see him smiling almost as wide as I was. "I have enjoyed our chat young one, but I believe the others will start to worry if you aren't back for breakfast on time."

I look at the only clock on the wall and it reads half past seven. "Oh no! I'm going to be late!"

"Just go back the way you came young sparkle, the door will get you back to where you came from in time to meet with the others. Though I ask of you to keep quiet about our little session until I make myself known to my pupils again." He states as he picks his book back up and continues reading.

"Why though?" I ask confused as to why he would want to remain hidden for any longer.

"Because if they knew I was back they would come storming up here demanding answers that I simply don't have right now."

"Oh... ok." And with that I head back through the two doors and find myself back in canterlot castle. I guess it's time to start my day.
