Rain pounded on the ground and thunder echoed through the orphanage walls. Everyone was fast asleep except the mares patrolling the halls and Firefly. The poor filly hated the orphanage with a burning passion, and she wanted to escape as soon as she gets the chance. It was midnight, and it was her chance of escaping. Firefly had peeked at the orphanage's blueprints and maps, and had also found an exit. She listened every night for when a mare comes trotting down her room's hallway, and she found out the pattern. Packing only a picture of her family in a blanket, she waited at the steel door that kept all of the fillies in their room.

Firefly had snook a key into her mane that unlocks the door, and it was only a matter of time before someone noticed that it was gone. She put her ear against the door, and heard a mare trotting away from her room. The filly counted a few seconds, then unlocked the door and crept her way out. She had to mainly crawl through vents and hide in lockers that were scattered through the halls. For her, it seemed like she was escaping a maze, despite knowing where to go.

She made her way to the entrance, knowing where the button is that opens the heavy titanium door. She also knew that there was a night guard watching the button and the entrance, so she had to distract him in order to get to the button. The guard was hard to distract, as he concentrated so hard on both the cameras and the button. Firefly threw a rock at the bin behind him, and once he had turned around to see what happened, she ran up to the desk and pushed the button, then quickly ran out of the room to get to the opening doors.

The guard cocked his head back towards the doors when he heard they were opening, and he saw the little filly run out. He slammed his hoof on a large switch which is only pressed when a filly escapes. A vast number of mares and stallions raced towards the entrance to catch Firefly, who was already climbing at the gates surrounding the orphanage. She managed to jump over the fence before anyone was able to catch her, and she started heading towards a forest that wasn't too far in the distance.

Firefly had entered the Everfree forest, and just managed to avoid being caught by any pegesi that were in the sky looking for her. No one was brave enough to go into the forest, so they let her go, knowing that a filly like her would probably die in under a minute. Firefly raced through the bushes and branches that were hitting her face, and tried looking for something, anything that would keep her safe for the night. She managed to find a huge hole in one of the trees, and hopped in it. It kept her dry from the rain, and would hopefully keep her hidden from any monsters that would try to find and kill her.
