Chapter 1: A defeat that comes with a little annoyance
‘God damn it I was so close! I had the power in my hands but I got defeated by them.’Sunset thought as she walked quickly home from school. Her clothes were all ripped up from her transformation, most of the clothes she didn’t really care about but her leather jacket was another story. It wasn’t as ripped as the rest because it had come off during the transformation, however some ripping was still present.
If it was destroyed then she would have been heartbroken, she loved her jacket. It was nice, heavy, and warm. Also, it was a bitch to buy a good leather jacket around here.
She walked along the sidewalk that seemed to be deserted at the time. There weren't any clouds in the sky tonight but with the city lights and other stuff, it was close to impossible to see the night sky. One of the few things that Sunset did miss about Equestria was the night that she could stargaze. Sunset shook her head to push that thought away.
“No time to think about that; I need a plan to steal that crown again when the portal is open without anyone noticing. I was stupid to let Twilight live when I was in Equestria but no matter, next time around I won’t go easy.” Sunset smiled at the thought of seeing Twilight defeated by her after she went and ‘saved’ her. It sounded a bit odd but it worked regardless, did they really just let her go since she just said ‘I’m sorry,’ she couldn’t believe that it had been so easy to fool them. Now they were going to pay the price for being so nice to her. Sunset started to chuckle, which sent a shot of pain through her body.
“Before I can do anything, I got to get my back looked after,” She muttered to herself. One of the things she didn’t realise after getting turned back from being a she-demon was that there were two open wounds on her back where her wings had been. She could feel her blood soak through her shirt which meant that she would have to go and throw it away. Why would the magic do this to her, why would it hurt her? She again pushed the thought to the back of her mind, thinking that it wasn’t important as she continued her trek home.
Normally it would take about twenty minutes to get from school to her home but Sunset took some different paths that made the twenty-minute walk into about an hour walk. This was to ensure that if she was being followed she would lose them from all the twists and turns she took or the fact that whoever was following her would get bored and leave her. After taking one of many paths that she found over the years and doubling back a couple times just to be sure, she got to her home. Her house was a run-down apartment building. Well, that’s not really true, it was a dorm building that was sold to someone else, it just looked rundown. It was also a place that had others that Sunset could tolerate, kinda.
Sunset went to the front door and tried to open it, only for it to not budge. Groaning at it, Sunset grabbed the handle with both hands and began to pull. Feeling pain in her back as if she was being stabbed, she grit her teeth and pulled the door open and walked in. Inside was mostly a meeting room with some couches, love seats, and a flat screen tv. Sitting in one of the couches was a short old woman knitting a black hat out of yarn.
She looked over at Sunset and snorted. “You look like hell,” she said in a raspy voice. Sunset responded with a glare.
“It’s been one hell of a day, when is this door going to get fixed?” Sunset asked, the woman simply went back to what she was doing.
“How the hell I should know? talk to the landlord about it, but if I know her she would just say ‘soon’ and just go out and buy more alcohol,” the old lady said.
Sunset rolled her eyes and walked to her room. She walked upstairs to the second floor where most of the tenants slept. As she walked to her room she passed a door with a sign that said ‘Landlord is sleeping, DO NOT DISTURB!’ Another door with a tiki mask on it, and lastly one that had the words ‘Do not bug the chef.’ marked on the door. Sunset moved passed them and went to the door that had the sun with red and yellow intertwined in it. She opened the door and went into her room.
It was a simple room, other than the dresser with crowns on it, a bed with handmade pillows and blankets and books. There was also a desk with a state of the art computer with two screens and a laptop sitting beside it. She went to the closet and opened it to pull out a full-length mirror and started to peel off her clothes. When she was done she looked at her back. Grumbling at the fact that she couldn’t really see. So she went to grab another mirror and angle it so she could get a better look. Sure enough, there were two scars right around her shoulder blades and two long stains of blood ran down her back. She then looked down at the shirt that she wore and sure enough there was blood on it too, which meant that she would have to get rid of it. Pushing the mirror back into the closet, she went back to her dresser to grab some PJ’s
As she was getting them on she saw all the crowns that she won over the years and her eyes landed on the empty spot that should have been filled with this year's fall formal crown. Grinding her teeth she slammed the dresser drawer closed and left her room, clothes in hand.
Sunset went to the bathrooms and started the shower. Waiting for it to warm up she took the rest of her clothes off and as soon as she was done, jumped in the shower. Once the water hit her wounds she had to bit down to not scream in pain. She grabbed a cloth, rolled it up and bit down on it as the water washed away the blood. She then looked down at all the blood that was being draining out of the shower.
‘Why, why did my magic do this to me? Just why?!’ Sunset thought as she screamed into the cloth. After a few more minutes of this Sunset turned the water off and walked out of the shower. She then took one of the towels and carefully began to dry herself off. Once that was done she wrapped the towel around her and picked up her clothes, opened the door, and walked out, right into two mounds of white flesh.
“What the…” Sunset started until she saw who she ran into, “Oh, hey, Vi.”
The woman who stood in front of her smiled. Vi was the landlord of the place and really hard to miss, mostly due to that fact that she always had a bottle of alcohol with her or her hair which is a different color every other week. This week it was neon green.
“Hey~ Sunny, how’s it going?!” Vi said as she wobbled. Sunset could tell that she was in fact, drunk. She was giggling to herself and had that loving look in her eyes. Sunset rolled her eyes at her.
“Fine, can you move? I want to go to bed,” Sunset said as she tried to get passed her but due to the wobbling she failed to do so.
“Awww~ what’s biting you in the ass? Didn’t you have a thing tonight? The fall something?” Vi said to her. Sunset clenched her jaw and closed her eyes.
“The Fall Formal…” Sunset told her as she tried to hold back from striking the drunk woman in front of her.
“Oh yeah, that! So I’m guessing that you lost?” Vi said. Sunset balled her hands into fists and felt her anger rising.
“Yes it was, and yes I lost now can you move?” Sunset said through her teeth. She then started to push Vi out of the way as Vi just smiled at her.
“Ahh don’t be like that, it’s just one loss, just try again next time,” she said as she slapped Sunset on the back. Right on one of her wounds. Sunset bit down on her lip so she wouldn’t yell out in pain, but Vi saw she wince.
“Sunny? What’s wrong with you, I didn’t hit you that hard? What wrong… with…” Vi stopped talking as she looked at her hand. Sunset looked back at Vi, there was blood on it. Vi’s face was one of shock as she looked at Sunset.
“Sunset is this…”
“It’s just hair colouring! Yeah, I just used some for the dance and I guess I didn’t get it off my back, now if you don’t mind.” Sunset then turned and walked quickly back to her room, leaving a confused drunk Vi. Sunset opened her door and closed it behind her and let out the breath that she was holding.
“That was close, too close.” She said softly. She then unwrapped herself and grabbed her first aid kit and started bandaging herself up. When that was done she threw on her pj's and turned off her light, crawling into bed. She stared at the wall and went through what happened tonight, scowling.
“I will get what’s mine, Twilight Sparkle, just you wait,” Sunset said. Slowly her eyes closed and she fell to sleep.
She was running, she didn’t know where or why but she knew one thing, she was running from something, what she was running from she couldn’t say. But she knew she had to get away from it.
Voices, that was all she could hear, all around her the voices echoed. Yelling the same insults, and taunts as she ran, she couldn’t even hear her own footsteps, only the taunting voices of the ones she manipulated.
She tried to block them out, make it all stop, but she couldn’t. She was forced to listen to their words as she ran on through the never ending darkness.
“I can't believe that she did that, no wonder she's a she-demon,”
“I used to be scared of her, boy what an idiot I was,”
“She had the whole school under her thumb with empty threats, now she's nothing more than trash.”
She tried to tell them no, to tell them otherwise, but she couldn’t, all she could do...was run.
“Now that she's nothing, she can just disappear.” Sunset breath caught in her throat. That voice... It belonged to one of the two lackeys that followed her.
“Just disappear” the voice continued.
Sunset tripped to the ground, desperately trying to back away from the raging voices around her.
“Just disappear, we don’t want you anymore” Sunset looked back behind her, hands reached out of the darkness, the voices continuing their assault.
The hands grabbed her, holding her down despite her struggling. The voices continuing their demonic chant as the hands tore her apart.
She tried to scream, beg them to stop, but nothing came out. The hands continued their assault, as she silently screamed to the blackness around her.
“JUST FUCKING DIE!” All the voices said at once.
Sunset lunged forward in a cold sweat. She looked around and saw that she was in her room. She turned her lamp on and looked around the room again. Signing in relief that there was nothing in the room with her.
“It was just a nightmare, there’s nothing to be scared about.” Sunset thought about the nightmare she had and frowned a bit, she reached over to turn the light off.
As she was about to turn the light off she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She looked at it and saw that it was her full-length mirror. She scowled at it, she remembered putting the mirror back into the closet.
She slowly got up from her bed and moved closer to her closet doors. She stopped and held her breath as she listened for a bit, faintly she heard someone breathing.
“I know someone is in there, you better come out before I come in there and beat the hell out of you,” Sunset said to the doors. Nothing moved, no sound was heard. She then reached over and grab a metal bat that she always kept by her bed.
“You have until the count of three,” She threatened as she tapped the bat onto the floor making a sound as she did, again nothing happened.
“One…” Sunset started.
“Two…” She lifted her bat up, winding up to bring it down to break the door and maybe the head of whoever was in there.
“Thr-” She started as she leaned back. She was then stopped by a voice that called out.
“All right all right, I’m coming out,” a chime like voice said to her.
Sunset blinked at that, it was female but she never heard a voice like that. Slowly the doors of the closet opened up and a child stepped out. She had long raven black hair, and light brown skin, she wore a dark purple hoodie and dark blue jeans. When she looked up at her Sunset saw that her eyes were teal coloured.
Sunset blinked at the girl in front of her, thinking that she was probably about twelve years old.
“Ummm, hello, miss can you um put down your bat please”
