Chapters I stared out of the train window. It was hard to focus when everything moved so fast. Both the scenery and my life. I couldn't stop thinking about what I would do now. I already missed Canterlot. The big city, the clean streets and the beautiful architecture.
And let’s not forget the ponies, everyone just minds their own business and knows how to behave. Just the way I loved it. It almost hurt to know how different Ponyville was gonna be. I had no friends there, no place to stay permanently and my career was going nowhere.
“Stop looking so grumpy.” Bass Blues didn’t even look at me while she said that. “Ponies will think that I’m forcing you to go with me.”
I turned my head to look at her. Bass Blues’ muzzle was buried in one of her coltfriends letters. They met once and apparently fell in love at first sight.
I put on a big fake smile and said as sarcastically as I could
“Oh yeah we wouldn’t have that, since I’m so absolutely thrilled to go with you to visit your ever so perfect coltfriend.”
Her head shot up from the letter and she glared at me with angry eyes, “We aren’t visiting we are moving in.”
She snapped at me. I just turned back to the window.
I glared down the cliffside on which the train drove. “You met the stallion once.” I decided to focus on the little town in the distance. I figured it had to be Ponyville. “How do you know you love him enough to move in with him?”
I saw her reflection turn towards me again. She looked at me with a serious face and a small frown across her muzzle. “I just do. You wouldn’t know, you have never been in love.”
I could feel a little pang in my heart at that comment. I muttered a reply “Of course I have.”
She sighed “I would hardly call that love Creepy Quill. You barely knew the colt.”
I didn’t answer but maybe there was something about it. I had never been in a proper relationship. I wasn’t very lucky with the stallions nor the mares. And the most intimate I had ever been with anyone was a kiss. And not a very good one at that.
Creepy Quill, the mare who didn’t know how to fall in love.
Maybe I would write a story about that. A pony who didn’t know how to fall in love. Of course I would have to finish the dozen of stories and such that I had already started.
Bass Blues always had luck on the dating front. Everypony liked her, whether it was her looks or personality, I had no idea. No wait, it couldn't be her looks. Her and I look almost exactly the same. Many ponies asked if we were twins. Both unicorns, same shade of bordeaux red coat, both dark green eyes. Almost clones, except for the manes and tails. Bass Blues had a chestnut mane with a few big curls, her tail was the same color and was one big curl.
My mane was short and straight and so was my tail. It was a few shades lighter than my coat and both the mane and tail had two blue streaks. The streaks were dyed in.
I also had freckles.
Bass was a few years older but I got my cutiemark first. I didn’t get it very early though, I got it very late actually. Bass just got hers even later.
Bass’ cutiemark was a note with strings on so that it looked like a guitar. Mine was a scroll of paper with my initials on it, C Q. Very creative I know. It wasn't even all of them, my full name is Creepy Amelia Quill, not just Creepy Quill. But I had given up on questioning it long time ago.
“You’re zoning out again Creeps,” I cringed at that nickname. “The least you can do is look happy that you are getting out of that big city.”
I wanted to tell her that she could go kiss my dirty hooves but I didn’t want to start a fight. Again.
“Sorry,” We looked at eachother once again. “I just lost the TRAIN of thought.” I snickered at my own joke. Bass Blues didn’t seem to understand. “You know, ‘cause we’re on a...” She rolled her eyes.
“Please, just stop.” She said with an irritated frown. I figured that she did, in fact, understand my brilliant pun.
Bass packed her coltfriends letter back into the saddlebag at her hooves. I gave her a confused look but she just sighed and pointed out the window to her left. The train was slowing down and we passed a few small houses. Had time really passed that quickly?
Bass Blues looked at me again and said “Now Creeps remember that String Chimers house aren’t very big so you have to crash on the couch until you find somewhere to stay.”
“I didn’t even ask to be here in the first place.” I snapped back at her, “I like Canterlot, it’s beautyful, big, clean and less… Ponyville.”
She looked at me with an almost sympathetic smile, if that’s even possible for her, and said “I’m sure you’ll settle in quite nicely, and there’s nothing wrong with a small town.
String even mentioned a library so that’s something you know. And the librarian’s actually from Canterlot too. Hey, maybe the two of you could become friends.”
She turned towards the window facing the town again. She took a deep breath and said “Nice and fresh air. I’m sure that you will love it once you get used to it.”
She smiled but I knew it wasn’t because of the air. The train had come to a halt and a gray unicorn stallion stood and waved through the window.
She immediately waved back through the window and started to put her saddlebags on. I followed her lead but I also picked up a case containing my typewriter and notes.
We stood up and walked towards the train door. I held the case in my magical aura and had to avoid hitting all the ponies who was walking in the tight hallway. We finally made it to the door and Bass practically threw herself at her coltfriend while I just stood and took it all in.
I ended up walking away from my sister and String Chimer who chatted endlessly. I saw the town of Ponyville. I felt a big knot in my chest as I muttered to myself
“Fresh air.”

Thanks for reading Creeps out
Bass Blues was right, String Chimers house was just barely big enough for one pony to live in without too many problems. I wondered how they were gonna make it work. The couch both felt and looked uncomfortable too. It took up most of the wall it had been pushed against. I was thankful that the dining table was in the kitchen, or else things would be incredibly cramp.
String Chimer had made coffee for Bass Blues and himself, I had a glass of apple juice since I hate coffee. Their cups stood on the little coffee table, the black liquids would soon get too cold to drink. The two of them hadn’t been able to keep quiet since we got of the train. I wondered if they would ever do so. I held my juice in my right hoof and swirled the yellow half clear drink around.
“So Creepy Quill,” That got my attention. String Chimer looked directly at me. At me! Not my sister. I was impressed, “I thought that maybe you could work in the kitchen, since there’s more room for your typewriter, and great light too.”
“That doesn’t sound too bad, thank Stri…” I was cut off by a laughter. Next to String.
“Work? Creepy Quill?” Bass Blues laughed even louder, “Creepy haven’t done anything productive since she graduated, why do you think mom and dad wanted her out?” She laughed in between breaths. It made my blood boil. It required all I had to not charge at her at full speed! My jaw hurt from grinding my teeth so hard. How dared she! All she did was play cover songs at cafes. I used my imagination at least!
String Chimer and Bass Blues both gasped all of a sudden, I looked at both of them and they had horrified expressions on their faces. My hoof felt wet. I hadn’t even noticed it. I had been holding my glass of juice so tight in my hoof that it had shattered. The apple juice had splattered all over my foreleg and half the table.
“I need some air.” It was all I could get out. My heart pounded and my hoof stung like hell. I rose and started to move towards the hallway.
I could hear my sister pulling in air “Creepy Quill did I say something?” She asked worryingly. Did she say something? Did she say something!
I forced myself to take a deep breath and just kept walking. “Creepy?”
I opened the front door at the end of the hall with my magic, I almost galloped out and slammed the door behind me. I could feel my eyes starting to sting and tear up. “Dammit.” I whispered to myself. A huge lump had formed itself in my throat and I speed up. I ignored all the ponies that I passed by and focused on the pathway that was underneath my hooves. The pain in my right fore hoof started to get more intense and it started to throb.
I spotted a few trees, some grass and bushes and figured I was headed for a park of some sort. The trees started to get closer and i ducked behind the closest one. Tears started to flow freely as I sat behind the big trunk, I raised my hoof. The soft fur had gotten dark and damp from the juice but that was not what I was worried about. I tried my best not to sob while I slowly turned my throbbing foreleg. Right there on my wrist, below my hoof was a long, deep gash. Blood still flowed but not at an alarming rate. I sighed in relief that the broken glass hadn’t hit my pulse vein, that would have gotten ugly.
I leant my back against the big tree and held my other hoof over the wound, it stung horribly but I hoped that it would stop the bleeding a bit. The blood that had already flowed had mixed itself in my fur and the sticky juice.
“Why do you always have to cry?” I asked myself, “Why can’t you just get angry?” I sobbed. My entire body felt like it was on fire, and not in a good way, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t stop the sobs. Unconsciously I tightened the grip around my hoof. My breath quickened and I tried to get control of my own thoughts, but they were too much of a mess. Bass’ words came to me again, it made me sob even more. Also what she said in the train. Was I never going to accomplish anything? Was I never going to get anything done? Was I going to die alone since I didn’t know how to love somepony? I knew that it wasn’t true but I couldn’t stop thinking that maybe there was something about it. I was a disaster. Both my brain and heart felt like lead and my hoof wasn’t doing any good.
“You okay?” It was a stallion's voice. My mind went blank and I blinked a few times. I tried to hide my face in my forelegs.
“I’m fine.” I muttered back, I would have said more but i choked on another sob.
“You sure?” He asked, I nodded but it seemed like he didn’t notice. “Cuz your hoof seems pretty messed up. You slipped or something? He had a bit of a city accent, he couldn’t be from Ponyville.
I looked at the hoof in my grip, blood had found its way out. “It’s fine, I can handle it.” I lied, a simple band aid weren’t going to do the job and I had no idea how to fix it myself or where to find a hospital.
He remained silent but I knew he was studying me. “I don’t think so.” I heard a thump and felt a sudden warmth next to me. “Lemme see.” It was all he said before grabbing my wounded hoof.
I hissed at the pain from having it touched so suddenly, “Is it bad?” I finally looked at the stallion while he examined my hoof. The first thing that caught my eye was his deep blue mane. It stood out completely from his chestnut coat and eyes.
“Well it ain’t good.” He still hadn't removed his eyes from the gash, “Was this why you were crying?”
I had barely noticed but the sobs were gone, the tears still flowed though. “Yes.” I lied again, I didn’t want to talk about Bass Blues.
“You’re a horrible liar you know that?”
He turned his head to look at me. I pulled my hoof back to myself and tried to avoid his gaze. It weren’t judgemental though, it had sympathy. I could feel the sobs starting to return. No words came out of my mouth while i tried to hold back my sobs, all the while the lump in my throat grew.
“Wanna talk about it?” He asked with a cautious voice. He had tried this before. Something started patting my shoulder but all four of his hooves were planted on the ground. I shaked my head and turned my head away from him. This stranger was so kind. You would never see this kind of behaviour in ponies in Canterlot. “You from here?” He tried to make me think about something else. I shaked my head again. “Me neither, Cloudsdale. And you?”
“C-Canterlot.” I stammered. Oh it was wings, I thought to myself.
“Came here recently?” He asked, the patting had stopped and now the wing was simply lying on my shoulder. “I came here when I turned sixteen.”
“T-today.” Sweet Celestia why couldn't I just stop crying and talk like a normal pony.
“Today? All alone?”
“With my sister” I felt the anger coming back. “My parents forced me to go with her.”
“Can't have been easy. I assume you like Canterlot.” I looked at him again.
“I love it” Wait there was something I love. Or love the way you love a city. Or like the way you love a friend or a family member. The more I thought about it, Canterlot wasn’t just a city, it was a part of me. A part of my soul.
“So you like Canterlot a lot?” I laughed silently. The stranger had a bit of song to his words as to intentionally make a lame joke. “So she can smile” I heard him laugh a bit to himself. It was true though, a little smile had found its way. I stille felt mad though, and sad…
“Smad.” I muttered and started laughing a bit more of my weird contraction.
“Smad?” He asked. He had no idea what I talked about.
I nodded, “Smad.” I laughed even more. The lump in my throat started to disappear. He started to laugh as well.
We just sad there and made even more stupid jokes and puns. It was hilarious and I started to forget about the gash in my wrist and about Bass Blues and String Chimer.
“I never really got your name.” He suddenly said. It caught me completely off guard.
“Uuhm.” Wow. Forgetting your own name. Good job Creepy Quill.
“Well hello Uuhm my name’s Snowy Sky.” He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes and sighed, “You’re worse then my dad. My names Creepy Quill.” I extended my healthy hoof for him to shake. Snowy Sky gave me a brohoof instead.
“Alright Creepy Quill let’s get your hoof there patched up.” He stood and motioned for me to follow him.
I stood as well and trotted along as best as I could.
What had I been thinking?! Following a complete stranger home. I could have gotten murdered! Or worse! Though Snowy Sky was totally cool he might not have been.
We sat in the kitchen of Snowy Sky’s house. It was in the outskirts of the town and it had been a pain in the plot to walk all the way with my hoof.
Sky had found his first aid kit and started cleaning the gash.
“It ain’t as bad as it looks but you’re gonna a need a few stitches.” I winced at his words and from the stinging alcohol he used to clean it.
I gulped “Can you do that, or should I try and find a hospital?” Even though Snowy Sky seemed to know his business I was more comfortable with the second option.
“Horseapples,” He put down the bottle of alcohol. “I’ve patched my self up more times then you can count.” He whipped up a little ball of string and a needle.
“Are you sure?” I asked again.
No response except for a nod. “Now try and hold your foreleg still cuz it ain’t gonna be painless.”
I nodded and bit my lower lip. Instead of looking at Sky slowly threading the needle, I looked around the little room. The walls was a calming light blue. Almost the same color as the sky outside. Not the “Sky” in here. Because he's brown. It made sense that the young pegasus would have painted the walls this color, it would remind him of his old home in Cloudsdale.
“Hey Sky, can I call you that?” I asked cautiously, I felt as if I kept saying Snowy Sky I might begin to stumble around in the s’.
He kept looking at the needle, trying to get the thin string into the little hole. “Uh, sure. All my friends call me that.”
Wait, did he consider me his friend? But we only just met. Though the thought of him being my friend kind of made me happy. I smiled, “Thanks.”
“No prob… Gotcha!” Sky had finally succeeded in threading the needle and he held it proudly between his hooves. “Now let’s get down to business.”
I tapped the kitchen table with my left hoof and made a false impressed expression.
He bowed with his head while still holding the needle, “Thank you very much.” When he turned his head back up he had a wide grin, we both laughed a bit. “Seriously though let’s get this over with, I think you’ve suffered long enough.” He had a bit of a laugh when he ended the sentence.
I took a deep breath as Snowy Sky placed the cold tip of the needle against my skin.

Creeps out
(mature content ahead)
I could hear the springs creaking in the room next door and I really wanted to cover my ears with a pillow but I didn’t have any, only a blanket, i had to use the armrest as a pillow. Occasionally the faint sound of a moan could be heard and it kinda grossed me out, the two of them mumbling to each other could also be heard once in awhile and I desperately tried to shut it out.
It was late when I had returned home and they had already gone to bed. String Chimer had prepared the livingroom for me, he actually seemed alright the more I thought about it. I thought about my outbreak earlier and I blushed from the shame. I had overreacted but I had just had enough of her bullshit. Bass Blues always criticised me, whether it was about my career, my love life or just me in general! Sometimes it’s like she want’s me to feel bad about myself. Or maybe it’s just me overreacting again.
“Ugh!” I covered my ears with my hooves and shut my eyes. The couches fabric scratched at my skin as I moved around, trying to get comfortable. My mind wandered back to the train ride and my heart sank. Did Bass Blues really mean what she said? Or was she just and trying to make conversation, because if that was the case, then she sucks at conversations. Also, the way she talked about me in front of String really embarrassed me, maybe that’s why I got so angry.
“I’ll apologize tomorrow.” I promised myself, not to Bass though, to String Chimer. I had made a horrible first impression and I didn’t want to have him think that I’m some sort of psycho who crushes glasses whenever they get moody. My stomach growled,I hadn’t had any proper dinner. Snowy Sky had made us some snacks when I was there but except for that, I hadn’t had anything else and I was too tired to go find something in the kitchen. That, and I had no idea where everything was. I mean, he had a fridge but raiding his kitchen seemed like bad manners too.
“Oh yes! String!” Bass Blues yelled from next door. It’s almost incredible how long they could keep going. How long has it been? Two maybe Three hours? Well all I know is that it prevented me from falling asleep.
I tried to think about something else, maybe about Snowy Sky. He had done a pretty decent job with my hoof, it was obvious that he had lot’s of experience. The stitches was great and he was so gentle with the bandages. Sky had told me about when he moved to Ponyville. Apparently he had moved here to get away from Cloudsdale, something with his twin sister, Sky wasn’t really clear about that and when I tried to question him, he just changed the subject. Snowy Sky also told me about why he was so experienced with patching up wounds and such. He was on the Ponyville weather team and got a lot of scratches on the job and figured that fixing them himself was way easier than going to the hospital or doctor each and every time.
After I had told Sky about me being forced to move here and needing someplace, he actually told me about his friend who needed a roomie. She couldn't pay the rent on her own, luckily my parents had promised to send me money every month until I started making my own. I was gonna have tea with her tomorrow. Autumn Aurora, her name was. Snowy Sky thought that her and I had a lot in common from what he had learned about me.
Suddenly the creaking from the bedroom stopped and there was a little mumbling, but that stopped pretty quickly too. After listening carefully for a few moments, I concluded that they must have finally gone to sleep, and so should I. It was almost impossible to get comfortable but it was easier without having to cover up my ears. I ended up laying sideways with my face against the backrest, though my injured right hoof was placed so that nothing was touching it, the pain was still there after all and I wouldn't risk ripping up the stitches.
I forced my mind to go blank and I could slowly feel that soothing calmness as I drifted off to sleep.
Mugs knocking against tables could be heard in the kitchen and it was obvious that the ponies talking right across the hall was doing their best to keep their voices down.
I didn’t want to open my eyes. Mostly because I knew that I wasn’t going to wake up to my bedroom’s homely lavender walls, nor mom’s delicious fried hay and eggs. And dad wasn’t going to sit by the white kitchen table and read the day’s newspaper before heading off to the castle to guard the gates. I had never imagined waking up somewhere else. I had never imagined waking up somewhere that wasn’t home. I had never been to a sleepover as a foal, they had always been at my place. Nor any school trips, and all vacations was with my parents. Basically, I had never imagined waking up somewhere that didn’t feel like home.
A frizzling sound could be heard in the kitchen and the smell of fried hay hit my nostrils. My mouth watered at the smell but I still didn’t want to get up.
I focused on the voices, “Do you think we should wake her up? I don’t think she had any dinner last night…” It was String Chimer. I was glad that he thought about me, even after my outbreak.
Bass Blues chuckled and said “Trust me honey, as soon as she smells this, she’ll wake up,” The frizzling from the hay stopped but soon started again as she must have replaced it with the eggs. “That’s how mom and dad does it. And… I think she should have something that’s like home.”
It was hard to open my eyes but I did it. I turned around. I didn’t look at the green walls, I looked at the door as my stomach screamed for food. The wooden floor was cold as I brought my right hind hoof to it and I considered bringing the blanket with me, but I decided against it. I let myself roll off the couch completely, though still not putting any weight on my right hoof. The blanket landed on the cushions. I just stood there and swayed for a minute or two until the sound of plates forced me out of my sleepy trance. Humping on three healthy and one injured leg I made my way to the door, with my right hoof I turned the doorknob though it was hard with the still very existing pain. Slowly the door swung open and I trotted into the hallway. The talking in the kitchen stopped. I kept going, into the little room and the smell hit me immediately. My stomach growled even louder and my eyes darted towards the cheap wooden table. There was placed three plates, each with hay and eggs.
“Hungry?” Asked Bass who sat at the table next to String Chimer.
I tried to get comfortable on the chair but it seemed almost impossible. Not with everyone staring at me. But I couldn’t blame them, I was sitting there, all alone.
“Five more minutes and if she isn't here by then, I’ll go home,” I mumbled to myself. Autumn Aurora was supposed to meet me here at Sugarcube Corner at two PM. I took another sip of my milkshake. I knew that we were just going to meet up here and then go to her place, but if I just waited and didn’t order I would have seemed like an arsehole. I looked at the clock on the wall
“Two thirty, that’s it I’m going home,” I left a couple of bits and rose from the table. On my way out I tried to put as little weight as possible on my right hoof, and I could only mentally prepare for those few steps outside. Climbing them was horrible and knew that going down would only be worse.
I walked out of the open door and looked down. It was only two steps. “You can do this,” I told myself.
I might have overreacted but at the time, it seemed worse than it was.
I started with my left, healthy hoof and then the right. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. Even with the weight of being pulled down. If I could have levitated myself down it would have been easier. But even skilled unicorns have a hard time at that, and I only knew two spells, levitation and a spell that detects grammatical errors… It isn't the most effective spell.
I managed to get down without too much pain but I still reminded myself to get some painkillers for bedtime. Getting comfortable with a gash in the right hoof isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Not that it sounds easy but you know what I mean!
I kept my head low with my eyes on the ground, I didn’t want to step on something and slip. It wasn’t long until I bumped my head into something. Perfect.
“Excuse me..” I lifted my head and met a pair of purple eyes behind glass. I took a few steps back. The pony was a young mare. She had a beautiful blue coat to match her eyes, her mane was a bit strange though.
“Don’t worry about it,” She smiled, orange locks of hair fell down over her glasses, she blew them away. She obviously needed to visit the hairdresser. That mane was a mess. “It was my fault, I should have seen where I was going.” She chuckled nervously.
I hesitated with speaking at first but decided that I should say something. “I should be going.” I walked around her, tried to keep a straight face and thought to myself ‘These ponies, I swear…’
“Wait!” C’mon... I stopped and turned around. She smiled nervously and it looked like she was sweating a bit. “Are you Creepy Quill?”
I was taken aback. Wait, was she Autumn Aurora? I stammered “Y-yeah..” I must have been looking like one big question mark.
“I’m so sorry! I was so caught up in my research! It’s a new moon tonight and that’s always my favourite time in the cycle because the stars are more visible, the moon blocks a whole lot and the light coming from it kind of makes some fade so it’s the perfect day for observing Y’know?” She sounded a lot more sciency than that, but that's all I can recollect.
“I came as fast as I could, I’m Autumn Aurora.” She held out a hoof for me to shake. Hesitantly I shook it carefully.
“All forgiven.” I think my fake smile was convincing enough because she seemed to relax a bit. I had to be friendly and make a good impression, she was going to be my future roommate after all. “Shall we go then?”
Her eyes widened for second, “Uh, yes! Let’s, just fair warning, though, the place is a mess, I didn’t have time to clean up.” That nervous smile again.
“I’m sure I’ll manage, I am from the suburbs after all.” I fake chuckled. She repositioned her glasses and nodded. “Is it far?” I asked and gestured my chin towards my bandaged hoof.
Her eyes darted to it. “Oh, um, not at all.” She said while shaking her head slightly. “But if it get’s too much I could always carry you.” A shallow laugh. She blushed a bit, but I don’t think she noticed herself.
I simply nodded and gestured for her to lead the way.
It wasn’t that far, but enough for me to almost accept the offer for her to carry me. She looked strong enough, I guess it’s because she’s an earth pony, they almost always have stronger muscles than pegasi and unicorns. They sometimes have more muscle than even the royal guards.
Autumn Aurora breathed in. “We’re here.”
The house didn’t look like much. Just a bit bigger than String Chimers. Autumn lead me to the front door and held it open for me.
There were books everywhere! I hadn’t seen such a large collection of textbooks since the field trip to the royal library with my old class in second grade! She instantly removed some from the table and couch and then went out into the kitchen. I stood in the middle of the room and waited. I considered moving to the armchair but decided against it, since that would be bad manners.
She poked her head through the open doorway to the kitchen, “I only have chamomile, is that alright?” She asked hastily. “Oh, and please sit down.”
“That’ll do just fine.” Honestly, I don’t care much for tea, hot drinks in general actually. But it would be impolite to reject an offer.
I sat on a free spot on the light brown couch and looked around the room. The collection of books was enormous for one pony, they all had titles about astronomy.
A few minutes passed until Autumn Aurora returned with a tray with cups, a small bowl of sugar and a teapot on top. She placed it on top of a book about nebulae, poured the tea and then sat down on the armchair opposite me. “I heard you came to town with your sis’?” She wanted to break the ice obviously.
I took a careful sip of my tea and placed the cup down again, “Yes, just yesterday. My parents decided that I should get out of Canterlot for a while.” I smiled, even though I wanted to frown. I thought about how parents shouldn’t have decided for me, but it all went better than expected, no I kind of want to thank them.
“So uhm, what do you work with?” She tried to keep eye contact, I got the notion that she doesn’t meet new ponies often.
I remained silent a bit to think, I didn’t want her to think that I was a lazy, “Well, I spent most of my time working on a collection of short stories and essays.” I thought back to my school time again, the teacher would sometimes read my essays to the class, as an example. I was a straight-A student. “What do you work with?” I asked out of courtesy.
