Game of Twilight
Prologe
Load Full StoryTwilight was just a filly when she learned to play chess. She loved the game. Couldn't get enough of it. On some days, she would she battle against Princess Celestia she never won, though. She would play it whenever she got the chance. She loved the way the pieces looked she even when t to the park and competed against the old folk there. Still she didn't often win. Chess was part of her. It was everything she loved you could take it anywhere and it was an easy way to stimulate her brain. Then you had all the moves you could do like castling. Chest was her favourite hobby besides magic and reading of course
"Princess Celestia, I finished my book," The adorable purple filly, Celestia smiled and her small pupil. She always liked how eager Twilight was to learn, and she knew what her student would say next. "May we play chess?"
"How did I know that's what you would say?" Celestia said smiling as she used her magic to grab her hoof-carved chess set. She might give it to Twilight one day it was going to waste in her possession, and that filly would use it more in her lifetime than she would ever do. She never understood why Twilight like chess so much. In fact, it was actually lunatic, she hated that would ponies made after Luna, but it was fitting her, though. Now the let's get on with the game she thought. "White, or black?"
"White of course! That one goes first," The purple unicorn said using her magic to fiddle with the white queen, for some reason the queen had a crescent moon on her crown. She quickly debated whether to ask Celestia but decided against. then her thought was forgotten as she thought of the advantage she would have with black, she would she what the other was planning to do she might go with that one. "Well with black I guess you could see what the other person is planning to do. That's great too! I'm going with black."
"Oh, Twilight," Celestia laughed, she really liked Twilight. She reminded her off... Anyway, she was having a good time. She liked to play chess too. They'll meet someday. "I'm
white, that's my favourite colour," This was going to be fun, Celestia though completely forgetting her previous topic, it didn't matter now, well not soon anyway. She missed her sister greatly she even had the pieces from a there old castle. these were almost a thousand years old. She tells twilight how old they were when she gave them to her.
"Let's start!" Twilight played a rough game, Celestia had her in checkmate ant least 5 times! The game was intense twilight would take a pawn, and Celestia would take a bishop or something of larger value, and vice verse. In the end, Celestia and Twilight were in a stalemate. It was a good game, and this was the closest Twilight ever got to winning against Celestia. Alas she didn't win.
"Good game, it was challenging Twilight, I haven't been in a stalemate since, oh it doesn't matter. you did great," Celestia smiled at her pupil Twilight was good at chess, she might be good at the game of houses. She was a filly she didn't have business in that yet, she hoped she never would. Nobles trying to get things from her arranged marriage it was madness. She been proposed to multiple times, maybe she would actually marry them if she felt that the were in love with her. Once she got out of the trap she called her thoughts she looked down on the filly's face noting that she was near tears, no wait there were tears. "Twilight look at me. Just because you lost doesn't mean that you should cry. would you feel better if I just let you win?"
"But I was so close I could have won, but I," Twilight was crying now she was so close. She was waiting for this forever. She just didn't spend a year and a half playing chess, just to get so close and lose. She wasn't just said, she was angry at herself. Sh beat her mother, Father, brother, she beat everyone she ever came across and she was so close to beating the sun goddess. So close.
"Twilight day in and day out, I play a different kind of chess, not one with rooks, and bishops, but one with real ponies. I have practised this for thousands of years. You have been practising only a year and a half. Not even to the magnitude of what I do with the nobles. I surprised your even that close to beating me. nThere's only been one pony that's ever bested me in chess. You got close that most ponies ever could," Celestia just spewed out words to show her student what she was up against and the magnitude, of what she just did. She hoped that would make her student feel better. Twilight would make a good princess. The was a fact Celestia knew. Princess Celestia hastily used her magic to put up the board and talk to her student once more. "In fact Twilight, I'm very proud of you. And what else do I tell you to do when you lose?"
"What do you mean a game with ponies? Can I play it?" Twilight said with stopped tears, she was back into learning mode, and she was excited to learn.
"By a game with real ponies, I mean planning out what people around you will do and how they will act and pushing the silently towards what you want them to do. This should never be abused, though." Celestia said letting her questions being forgotten she doubtedTwilight even hear anything after the game with real ponies part. This is what sparked Twilight's large to play the game of chess. with actual ponies. When she was older she would rule the world by Celestia's side. her life was going to be changed drastically, it better makes way for the monster named Twilight Sparkle of house Sheild.
