Ever since her battle with Tirek she had been obsessed with the further study of alicorn magic. Magic was everywhere in Equestria. In every plant, every creature, and even in everypony. Unicorns weren't the only ones that could harness the power of magic. It was a well known fact that pegasi and earth ponies possessed certain magical properties, but no one knew they could harness it, until Twilight figured it out that is. After the rebuild efforts, Twilight began to study the effects of magic in other pony races. She knew that something had to be done to better defend Equestria if another attack like this happened. If another foe appeared and she wasn't there to defend her home and her friends then all hope would be lost. So she hit the books. She knew the earth ponies drew their magic from the ground and soil. She learned that once enough had been stored their strength and speed were significantly increased. She began to work with Applejack first. She was reluctant at first, but took to the lessons well. She was now able to increase her physical strength up to 3x her normal abilities. Although Big Macintosh did not enjoy the amount of trees that were destroyed in her training. Pinkie's training was next. She took to it much faster than AJ did. Twilight was shocked to find that Pinkie, once charging her magic a good deal, could actually produce copies of her self. Not sentient beings, but projected copies which greatly fascinated Twilight. Pegasi magic was a bit of an enigma. It functioned similarly to earth pony magic, but was drawn from the sun (or moon) through the wings and the energy could even be fired from the ends of their hooves. Fluttershy was very against the idea of practicing any act of violence. Because of that they learned the light she could emit contained healing properties able to contend with even the strongest of equestrian medicine. Rainbow Dash loved every moment of training. She got a rush of excitement when she fired energy from her hooves. She even began to use it as a sort of booster when she flew. Lastly came Rarity and since unicorn magic came naturally, training Rarity should be a breeze. Should be. Rarity had absolutely no interest in learning to fight. She would have absolutely no part in that nonsense. Twilight left her be for now, but she could sense a great deal of magic kept inside her. Twilight looked from her book and got up from the table where she read. She lifted the empty cup that contained her tea and headed for the kitchen. Her hoofsteps echoed through the empty castle. What would happen if someone like Tirek ever came back? Would they be ready? Sure they had the princesses, but what if something was far more powerful than them? What if it decided it wanted to get rid of the competition? She shuddered. She finally reached the kitchen and put her cup away. She really needed to stop worrying. If anything did happen she had her friends and that's all she really needs. "Twilight!" Spike burst through the doors. "You're not gonna believe this!" "What?" she asked quizzically. "Applejack and Rainbow Dash are sparring, see and-" "They're what!?" She said as she bolted for the door that led outside. Spike ran after her. "Wait! You know how you said that earth ponies can absorb magic, but can't channel it, well" Twilight burst out the door to the outside where her friends had circled around and began to watch the match that was being played out. "RAINBOW BLITZ!" A cyan beam of energy shot violently from the sky and crashed hard on the ground causing a crater to form. In the middle of the gaping hole in the earth stood AppleJack holding steady. "Is that all ya'll got? Ah'm hardly breakin' a sweat" AppleJack taunted. "And why is your attack called 'Rainbow Blitz' if'n it's only blue?" "What? you got something better?" Rainbow shot back. "Yeah I reckon I do." Applejack began to scream. She began to absorb more and more energy. Her muscles swelled. Veins began to emerge on her forehead. "AppleJack stop! You can't take in that much magically energy! you'll pop!" Twilight screamed. An orange aura began to form around the farmpony. Her hat began to flutter in the magically current she was creating. Rainbow Dash watched with a bored expression. "Tell me how ya'll like this one! APPLE BUCK CANNON!" At the last word of that sentence Aj's jaw flew open and an orange beam erupted from her mouth and quickly lanced toward Rainbow Dash. Dash quickly crossed her front legs to counter the attack. She spread her wings in an attempt to absorb what energy she needed to deflect this bolt. She began to sweat. AppleJack's attack was nearly overwhelming. She gritted her teeth as the energy blast slowly began to envelope her. She spread her wings even further apart. She began to feel light headed. with the last bit of her strength she swung her hooves to the right along with Aj's attack. The bolt flew into a nearby mountain and erupted into orange light. Dash lost consciousness and fell from the sky. Twilight caught her in her magic and slowly set her down on the grass. "What was the meaning of this?" Twilight snapped. "Me and featherbrains were doing a bit of sparring." Applejack said as she climbed from the crater she was in. "Sparring? You almost killed her!" Twilight shot back. "I helped you develop these skills to defend yourselves not fight each other!" "Yeah, but how are we supposed to get stronger?" Rainbow said weakly as her eyes slowly opened. "I almost had you" "Yeah, that Rainbow Blitz of yours packs quite a wallop." AJ wiped the sweat from her brow. "If I may, Applejack" Rarity piped up "the name 'Apple Buck Cannon' could use some work" "Yeah, how about you name yer own attacks. Oh, wait, yer too chicken to fight." Applejack shot her a sly smirk. "Ah pshh hm" Rarity spat. She turned up her nose. "A lady would never be involved with such tomfoolery" Twilight sighed. "Just promise me to go easy on one another, and also" Twilight glanced at the carnage that was now her front yard. "Please find another spot to train." "Me versus Fluttershy next!" Pinkie screamed as she snatched Fluttershy in a hug. Fluttershy winced. "Do I have to?" ______ Meanwhile far into the sky a mysterious meteor cruises calmly toward earth. What does it bring with it? It was a serene morning. Spring Harvest sat her basket down beside her and gazed at the beauty of her crops down below. It never failed to bring a smile to her face. She grabbed her basket and began to work. It was now mid day and Spring Harvest had already gathered a considerable amount of crops. She wiped the sweat from her brow and decided it was about time for some lunch. She hitched to her wagon and began to head back to her cottage. A streak of light lanced from the sky and immediately caught her attention. A ball of fire flew swiftly directly toward her. She ducked out of instinct as the flaming orb crashed down in the field behind her. She slowly peeked over her wagon and observed the smoking object in the field behind her. It looked like a strange metal ball. It steamed from the heat of entry to the atmosphere. A loud hiss sounded as the front of the orb lifted and a large mass stepped out. The beings scales glistened in the sunlight. It stood upright wore strange armor with large shoulder pads protruding from either side. "Hm. It appears to be teeming with life. Looks like brother has failed in his mission." His cold stare shifted now and looked directly at Spring Harvest. "Tell me, equine, who rules these lands?" "P-princesses Celestia and Luna" "Both equine like yourself I imagine?" "Y-yes" "Would you kindly point me in their direction?" "They both live in Canterlot" She pointed atop the mountain where Canterlot resides. "There" "You've been a fine help, thank you! My sincere apologies about your crops however." The intruder levitated far above the ground. "You'll be relieved to know that I've decided to kill you quickly in return for your help." "What?" The visitor raised his hand and shot a small beam at the pony. It struck the ground and created a deceptively large explosion that engulfed Spring Harvest and her wagon as well. All that remained was a smoldering heap of wreckage. "Looks like Tavurth will have to make a house call" he grinned with sinister delight as he jetted across the sky toward Canterlot. ______ "So your friends are taking well to their training" Princess Celestia asked as she sat upon her throne. "Yes. They are making great progress" Twilight replied. She had been in the presence of Celestia many times yet she still felt nervous when speaking with her. "Have you trained with them?" "No. I felt there's no need. I'm already at the peak of my performance." Twilight replied. "Hm" Celestia peered out the window "don't be so sure. There is always room for improvement, dear Twilight. never underestimate your self" "Yes of course" Twilight bowed "If you'll excuse us, Spike and I are going to get some lunch" Celestia nodded. "Take care Twilight and may the sun smile upon you." Twilight and Spike turned and exited the throne room. "What do you think she meant by that?" Spike asked. "I'm not sure. She's never said anything like that." "Does she think you can become stronger?" "I don't see how" Twilight said. "Well she is the one who recognized your potential even when you were just a foal" Twilight nodded. Celestia did have a knack for recognizing talent. Spike and Twilight sat at a table inside a diner near the castle. As they settled Spike observed a couple across the diner nuzzling their new born foal. Twilight picked up on this and put a wing around him. "You thinking about it again?" Spike nodded. "It's just hard to believe that no one knows where I came from." He sighed. "Not even Celestia" Twilight gave him a nuzzle. "It doesn't matter where you were, Spike. All that matters is where you are now." He knew she was right, but something always itched in the back of his mind about his origins. He shrugged it off for now. "Can I have the French Toast" "Of course, Spike" ______ "Have you felt it, Sister" Celetia asked as she walked into Luna's chambers. "Indeed I have. One very imposing power. Very near." Luna said "I sense that it far exceeds any native equestrian's power ten fold." "Indeed. Perhaps it was wise of Twilight to train her friends, yet I fear it be not enough." "I would not count them out so quickly" Celestia said "Come sister, for we have a guest" ______ "So I said to him 'If you want to proceed any farther I'm gonna need some I.D. but he just wasn't havin' it" A deep red guard pony said to the other guard that was positioned in front of the royal chambers. "So what did you do, Force?" Asked the other pony. "Well I gave him a good kick in the flanks is what I did" Force Defender said as he puffed his chest out. "Didn't see him again for a good month" "Sometimes ya gotta be forceful to get the point across" "Oh I couldn't agree more" The two ponies instantly took a defensive stance. Directly in front of them appeared to be a dragon in battle armor. "Are the Princesses around? I'd like counsel with them" "I don't think so, bub, why don't you just turn around and head the other way." Force said as he gave a stern look. "Well, you see" The dragon began as he slowly approached "I came a long way and I just need to speak with the Princesses" "He said back off" The second guard said as he charged forward. The intruder was swift and shot a clawed hand out and grabbed the guard by his neck. "Now now, that is police brutality, my dear boy" "PUT HIM DOWN!" Force began to charge but Tavurth held up his free hand. "One more step and I crush your friend's windpipe" Force stopped. A bead of sweat streaked down the side of his face. "Now, May I see the princesses." "FOR THE SUN!" Force charged. "Wrong move" Tavurth closed his hand, successfully collapsing the guard's windpipe and tossing him aside. He grabbed Force by the throat his his opposing hand and laid his other palm to rest on Force's chest. "You just have to be forceful sometimes, ya know" Tavurth gave a menacing grin "To get the point across" Tavurth fired a beam of energy from his palm and sent Force flying out the window. Tavurth burst through the large double doors. "Knock knock!" "That's quite far enough." Celestia's voice boomed though the great throne chamber. "Why do you seek to bring destruction to these lands" It was just Celestia and Tavurth in the throne room. Celestia's presence boomed in comparison to Tavurth. Yet, he remained cool and collected. "Well, you see" Tavurth began "I am under the employment of a certain individual that does business in interplanetary salvage. He strips planets of their natural resources and leaves the husks floating in space. As you can imagine the inhabitants of the worlds we slaughter are not very keen on being obliterated. That's where we come in. Some years ago we sent a small egg containing another Dormin like myself to this planet" "Dormin?" "Ah yes, the vernacular" Tavurth searched for the word "You call them dragons on this world. Anyway, this particular Dormin was from the same brood as I. My little brother. I came to this world because it is next in line for salvage. I'm sure you've felled the little brat. Tell me, did he pose much of a challenge?" "I do not recall meeting your brother" "Are you certain? He would be purple and green just as I am" "What point are you trying to make" "Right" Tavurth nodded "Since my brother failed his task it is up to me to now ready to planet. That means getting rid of any resistance" Tavurth grinned "That means getting rid of you and your sister that is approaching behind me" Tavurth jumped just as a dark bolt struck the floor where he stood. "Blast it! How did he now!" Luna cursed. "There are many things I've not told you your highness" Tavurth laughed as he hovered above the two alicorns. ______ "Did you hear an explosion come from the castle" Twilight asked with a mouthful of hashbrowns. "Look! in the window!" Spike pointed to the flashes of magical energy being emitted from the windows. "C'mon spike!" ______ "How do you fly without the aid of wings" Luna questioned "Like I said. I'm full of surprises" "Silence!" Celestia bellowed as she shot a bolt of magic which swallowed Tavurth. "Ha! that magic bubble should hold him for good." "Oh this?" Tavurth asked as he simply walked through the forcefield. "Might I add that your petty equine magic has no effect on a true blooded Dormin." Celestia broke out in a nervous sweat. "What do we do now, Sister?" Luna asked nervously "We take him out the old fashioned way" Celestia gave a battle cry and charged. "Hmph" Tavurth spat "Typical equine behavior" He threw a right punch that caught Celestia right in the jaw. She flew across the room, taking out a few support pillars along the way. "Pitiful" "Have at thee!" Luna said as she charged, horn lowered. "Do you equine ever learn" Tavurth said as he side-stepped Luna and brought a fist down on her horn causing her to flip out of control. Luna slammed the wall. She then only saw black. Tavurth grabbed Luna by the horn and drug her toward Celestia. He approached the sun goddess and grabbed her horn as well. "Now, how about we fix this to where you may never interfere with the coming plans, hm?" Tavurth grabbed firm both the horns and began the scream. He channeled the primal Dormin magic of his ancestors and began to seep the magic away from the royal sisters. He felt the equine magic enter his body. The sickening sweetness rolled inside and built up. The foundations of the palace began to shake from the power that Tavurth emitted. He looked toward the ceiling and gave a long deep belch as rainbow colored flames erupted from his mouth and quickly disrupted in the air. Twilight burst through the doors. "What is going on in here!? Who are you!" "Jeez! Another princess? how many are-" Tavurth paused. "Verath?" "Pardon?" Twilight asked. He was glaring at Spike. "Verath! So you did make it here. Tell me, why was all of life obliterated from this wretched world?" Tavurth asked as he approached Twilight and Spike. "Uh. My name is Spike" "Spike!? HA!" Tavurth gave a hearty laugh. "They gave you an equine name and you live among them!? I suppose I'm the only successful one of our brood. Since you never gave in to your Dormin instincts that would explain why you're still so tiny." "Twilight, what is he talking about?" "I'm not sure. I don't know who he is, but I know he means trouble." "Ah, yes, forgive me. I am Tavurth, older brother to 'Spike'" he shuddered at the name. "and I've come to destroy your entire race" "Not if I or the princesses have anything to say about it!" "Bah" Tavurth chuckled "I've no need to worry about your petty princesses any longer. Or you either for that matter." He raised his hand and charged an attack. Twilight instantly brought her wings forward to shield her and Spike from the attack. "Twilight! Help!" Spike squealed as he was drawn toward Tavurth. "Little brother Verath and I have some conditioning to do back at my spacecraft. Until we meet again, my dear." Tavurth shot of in an instant with little Spike in tow. It was then twilight saw the lifeless bodies of the princesses lying on the floor. "Princess Celestia! Luna!" She ran to them. "Are you Oka---" She paused in shock. Layin on the ground before her was the body of a unicorn and a pegasus. ______ What will happen to Spike? Will Celestia and Luna ever be the same? Her eyes shot open and she began to cough. "Princess!" Twilight said as she ran to her side. "What happened" "That fiend Tavurth" Celestia tried to rise, but her legs quivered and she fell back to the ground. "He's done something to my wings. I cannot feel them" Celestia said weakly. "Well" Twilight hesitantly began "They aren't there anymore" "WHAT" She wheeled her head around and only saw her bare back. She looked at Luna who lay motionless beside her. Luna's horn had been taken away. "We've been reverted back to before we ascended" Celestia said with a defeated tone. "I thought you were always an alicorn" Twilight began. "No. In fact we weren't even born here" Twilight gave an interested look. "Although" Celestia began "That would be a fine tale for another time" The doors to the chamber room opened and instantly the two ponies were on guard. A dark red pony limped in. "I'm sorry princess. I have failed you" He said weakly "Force Defender" Celestia said with relief. "You are alive!" She stood now. She was now significantly shorter now in this new form. Force looked to Luna "I have failed Luna as well" He paused for a second. "I want to help hunt him down" "Hunt him down?" Celestia asked "I would not put anymore lives in jeopardy. When Luna is awakened she and I will find him. We will protect Equestria. Just like it has always been" "What about the Elements of Harmony" Twilight asked "We protect Equestria too and we've been training just for a moment like this" Twilight stood confidently "We can beat him and get Spike back" "Get Spike back?" Celestia asked "He took Spike?" "Yes, he said that Spike was his brother" Celestia's eyes grew wide. "He plans to force Spike to help him destroy this planet like we has originally meant to do." "What!?" Twilight exclaimed "He said that Spike was supposed to ready the planet, not destroy it!" "It can be explained later, now go and get Spike. Luna and I will meet you at your castle. It is not safe for us here any longer" Twilight turned to Force "Were you serious about wanting to help?" "Of course" Force nodded "Although my leg is kind of banged up" "We can take care of that" Twilight said as she put her hoof on Force's shoulder "Try not to move" In the next instant they were gone in a puff of magic energy. "Good luck, my dear Twilight Sparkle" Celestia said with closed, sorrowful eyes. ______ Tavurth flung Spike to the ground outside his spacecraft. Spike sobbed and curled up on the ground. Tavurth gave a disgusted glance and turned to his pod. He opened the hatch and began to rummage inside. He pulled out an odd looking device with a lens and mounted it to the side of his head with the lens covering his left eye. Spike watched. "This is Tavurth, come in. Yes. I've touched down. I found Verath as well. Yes. He was raised by equines, he's barely the size of a hatchling" Tavurth gave a glance to Spike. "Copy that. Good hunting, Chrome. Over and out." Tavurth bent down to Spike's level. "It appears I have the go ahead to do what ever I like to your miserable home" "You won't get away with this" Spike said between sobs "I won't let you, Twilight won't let you." "Ha! You think I'm worried about your sissy pony friends?" Tavurth gave a devilish grin "No, I believe I will have fun in killing them one by one." Spike continued to cry. Not out of despair, but of anger. He felt something well up inside him. "Take that back" Spike said "What did you say" "I said. Take. That. Back." Spike's eyes now glowed a fearsome green. The device on Tavurth's head began to beep and he gave a worried look. Spike lunged. "TAKE IT BACK" He punched Tavurth square in the jaw, causing him to lose his balance. Spike was angry. He was breathing heavily. Every muscle in has body seemed to constrict and expand. He couldn't take it. He began to feel light headed. He then fainted and fell into the dirt. Tavurth rose up and rubbed his jaw. "That is what little brother is capable of, is it" He thought. "So he's not a complete weakling after all" He gave grin and tossed Spike into his pod. "This pod has Dormin atmospheric conditions in it. A few days in here should bring out the beast in him. Yes, this should work nicely to my advantage" He grinned once more and shut the pod. ______ "So lemme get this straight, there's an alien here who plans to destroy the planet and has kidnapped Spike,which turns out to be his brother, and its up to us to stop him" Rainbow Dash said. "That's pretty much the story" Twilight said. "Why are we waiting here? Let's go!" Rainbow dash shot off out the door of the castle. "RAINBOW DASH, WAIT!" It was too late. She was gone. "We have to get her back!" Force said as he rose up. Fluttershy gently pushed him back down "Mr. Defender, you need to relax and let me finish healing you, ok" Force nodded and lay back down. "We need to stop her!" Twilight said "I'm going after her. We still need to contact Rarity and AppleJack. Make sure they stay here. I'll explain the situation to them when I return" Force and Fluttershy nodded. "Wait, where's Pinkie Pie? She was just here" Twilight said. ______ Rainbow Dash stormed through the sky. She knew not where she was headed, only that she needed to find Spike. She stopped and scanned the surrounding area. Nothing out of the ordinary. She closed her eyes and concentrated. She tried finding any odd magic signatures. "Whatcha doin', Dashie?" "Not now, Pinkie" "Okay, I can wait." "Wait, What!?" Dash's eyes shot open and found Pinkie right beside her. Flying. "How are you doing that??" "Oh! I call it my Pinkie Fly technique. Basically all the magic I build up is released slowly to create an aura around myself which allows me to levitate. Neat, huh?" "You've gotta teach me!" Dash said with excitement. "I will after we find that meanie bo beanie that took Spike!" Dash nodded. "I couldn't sense that bad guy's energy anywhere." "They're over this way!" Pinkie pointed. "How do you know?" "You can't sense the badnik's energy because you've never felt it, silly. Just feel for Spike's and it's a no brainer!" Pinkie grinned. Dash blushed. "Oh yeah" "C'mon, It's this way!" Pinkie Streaked off through the sky to the west with Dash close behind. ______ Tavurth sat out side his spacecraft and finished a squirrel he had hunted. This planet really was miserable. "Just a few days time, Verath" He thought as he glanced to his brother. "As long as no ponies come to meddle, you and I will destroy these pathetic creatures. I'd even wager we could defeat -" "Hey scaley!" "Speak of the devil" "Heard you have our friend" Dash said from the sky. "You mean my whelp of a brother. Yes he is present." "We're gonna need him back." "No I do not think that is within my power to do." "Wrong answer" Dash bolted forward and delivered a punch to Tavurth's gut. He doubled over. "Now that was not nice" He said as he raised up and grabbed Dash's leg. "Hey!" She began to flap her wings, but could not reach the amount of lift she needed for take off. She slumped to the ground. "Now now, wings clipped already?" "RAINBOW BLITZ" Dash delivered a Blitz attack point blank to Tavurth's face. "Ha! How'd you like... Oh. Buck." Tavurth closed his mouth as the last of Rainbow Dash's attack went down his gullet. He pulled Rainbow Dash closer and belched in her face. His hot breath singed the hairs on her face. Tavurth tossed her aside. "You are a wiley one" He grinned. "Hiya" Said Pinkie at Tavurth's side. He glanced over. "Goodbye" He said as he blasted a bolt of energy at Pinkie. She exploded in a cloud of mist. "Hiya" She said again, this time from his right. "Hiya" "Hiya" "Hola" She had him surrounded. Pinkies everywhere. "I've no time for your parlor tricks." Tavurth punched the ground causing a shock wave that shook the Pinkie's causing them to disperse. All but one Pinkie remained. He approached her as she picked herself off the ground. "Hiya" he mocked as he raised his hand to her face. "Enough" Tavurth looked to the sky where Princess Twilight Sparkle loomed in the air. "Tavurth, although I am honor-bound by the laws of peace and amnesty, I am not afraid to fight for my friends. That being said, I issue you one warning, and one only: Leave this place or perish." Tavurth grinned a sickly smile. "I suppose the latter sounds appealing if you feel you can muster it." "So be it" Twilight raised her horn high to the sky and spread to her wings. A small ball began to form at the tip of her horn. "KAAAA" Twilight began. The ball of light began to grow. "MEEEEE" a purple aura formed around her body. "HAAAAAAA-MEEEE" "What's this?" Tavurth said as he checked his scouter. Her power level was rising considerably. Was there more to these ponies than he originally- "HAA!!!!" A light blue beam of pure energy lanced from her horn and landed square in the middle of Tavurth's chest. The power was immense! It knocked him back and off his feet. The light faded and Tavurth lay on the ground. He chuckled and rose to his feet. "Having never been effected by equestrian magic before, I must say that technique packs a punch. Not enough to damage me, but a punch none the less." Twilight broke into a nervous sweat. "I tell you what. I love a challenge and I can tell you have potential." Tavurth began. He held up three digits. "I give you three days to train and on the fourth day we will fight. Any longer and I begin to destroy your petty race." "What stops you from doing that anyway" Twilight said "Like you" Tavurth began "I am bound by my word. Dormin are a proud race and allow their challengers fair time to reach their peak of physical prowess" "I am nothing like you" Twilight scowled. Tavurth shrugged "What about Spike" Tavurth motioned to the pod where Spike lay. "No harm shall come to baby brother. He is quite safe in there." Rainbow dash and Pinkies came to Twilight's side. "What do you think, Twi?" Dash whispered. "He has a better hand than we do. I don't trust him, but we haven't much choice" She chewed her lip. "Three days?" Twilight called back. Tavurth nodded. "You have a deal" Twilight said "But if you so much as glance at another pony all deals are off and you will be terminated." "You have my word, Princess." "Yes, three days time should be plenty for baby brother to realize his potential. Then I will use him to destroy the ponies he once called friends. Train hard Twilight, you fool." Tavurth thought. The three ponies bolted back to Ponyville to begin the grueling three day wait. What does Tavurth have planned? Will three days be enough for Twilight and her friends to train? Magic was everywhere in Equestria. In every plant, every creature, and even in everypony. Unicorns weren't the only ones that could harness the power of magic. It was a well known fact that pegasi and earth ponies possessed certain magical properties, but no one knew they could harness it, until Twilight figured it out that is. After the rebuild efforts, Twilight began to study the effects of magic in other pony races. She knew that something had to be done to better defend Equestria if another attack like this happened. If another foe appeared and she wasn't there to defend her home and her friends then all hope would be lost. So she hit the books. She knew the earth ponies drew their magic from the ground and soil. She learned that once enough had been stored their strength and speed were significantly increased. She began to work with Applejack first. She was reluctant at first, but took to the lessons well. She was now able to increase her physical strength up to 3x her normal abilities. Although Big Macintosh did not enjoy the amount of trees that were destroyed in her training. Pinkie's training was next. She took to it much faster than AJ did. Twilight was shocked to find that Pinkie, once charging her magic a good deal, could actually produce copies of her self. Not sentient beings, but projected copies which greatly fascinated Twilight. Pegasi magic was a bit of an enigma. It functioned similarly to earth pony magic, but was drawn from the sun (or moon) through the wings and the energy could even be fired from the ends of their hooves. Fluttershy was very against the idea of practicing any act of violence. Because of that they learned the light she could emit contained healing properties able to contend with even the strongest of equestrian medicine. Rainbow Dash loved every moment of training. She got a rush of excitement when she fired energy from her hooves. She even began to use it as a sort of booster when she flew. Lastly came Rarity and since unicorn magic came naturally, training Rarity should be a breeze. Should be. Rarity had absolutely no interest in learning to fight. She would have absolutely no part in that nonsense. Twilight left her be for now, but she could sense a great deal of magic kept inside her. Twilight looked from her book and got up from the table where she read. She lifted the empty cup that contained her tea and headed for the kitchen. Her hoofsteps echoed through the empty castle. What would happen if someone like Tirek ever came back? Would they be ready? Sure they had the princesses, but what if something was far more powerful than them? What if it decided it wanted to get rid of the competition? She shuddered. She finally reached the kitchen and put her cup away. She really needed to stop worrying. If anything did happen she had her friends and that's all she really needs. "Twilight!" Spike burst through the doors. "You're not gonna believe this!" "What?" she asked quizzically. "Applejack and Rainbow Dash are sparring, see and-" "They're what!?" She said as she bolted for the door that led outside. Spike ran after her. "Wait! You know how you said that earth ponies can absorb magic, but can't channel it, well" Twilight burst out the door to the outside where her friends had circled around and began to watch the match that was being played out. "RAINBOW BLITZ!" A cyan beam of energy shot violently from the sky and crashed hard on the ground causing a crater to form. In the middle of the gaping hole in the earth stood AppleJack holding steady. "Is that all ya'll got? Ah'm hardly breakin' a sweat" AppleJack taunted. "And why is your attack called 'Rainbow Blitz' if'n it's only blue?" "What? you got something better?" Rainbow shot back. "Yeah I reckon I do." Applejack began to scream. She began to absorb more and more energy. Her muscles swelled. Veins began to emerge on her forehead. "AppleJack stop! You can't take in that much magically energy! you'll pop!" Twilight screamed. An orange aura began to form around the farmpony. Her hat began to flutter in the magically current she was creating. Rainbow Dash watched with a bored expression. "Tell me how ya'll like this one! APPLE BUCK CANNON!" At the last word of that sentence Aj's jaw flew open and an orange beam erupted from her mouth and quickly lanced toward Rainbow Dash. Dash quickly crossed her front legs to counter the attack. She spread her wings in an attempt to absorb what energy she needed to deflect this bolt. She began to sweat. AppleJack's attack was nearly overwhelming. She gritted her teeth as the energy blast slowly began to envelope her. She spread her wings even further apart. She began to feel light headed. with the last bit of her strength she swung her hooves to the right along with Aj's attack. The bolt flew into a nearby mountain and erupted into orange light. Dash lost consciousness and fell from the sky. Twilight caught her in her magic and slowly set her down on the grass. "What was the meaning of this?" Twilight snapped. "Me and featherbrains were doing a bit of sparring." Applejack said as she climbed from the crater she was in. "Sparring? You almost killed her!" Twilight shot back. "I helped you develop these skills to defend yourselves not fight each other!" "Yeah, but how are we supposed to get stronger?" Rainbow said weakly as her eyes slowly opened. "I almost had you" "Yeah, that Rainbow Blitz of yours packs quite a wallop." AJ wiped the sweat from her brow. "If I may, Applejack" Rarity piped up "the name 'Apple Buck Cannon' could use some work" "Yeah, how about you name yer own attacks. Oh, wait, yer too chicken to fight." Applejack shot her a sly smirk. "Ah pshh hm" Rarity spat. She turned up her nose. "A lady would never be involved with such tomfoolery" Twilight sighed. "Just promise me to go easy on one another, and also" Twilight glanced at the carnage that was now her front yard. "Please find another spot to train." "Me versus Fluttershy next!" Pinkie screamed as she snatched Fluttershy in a hug. Fluttershy winced. "Do I have to?" ______ Meanwhile far into the sky a mysterious meteor cruises calmly toward earth. What does it bring with it? TwoThe sun slowly crept over the mountains. The dew glistened in the morning light. Birds began to chirp and leave from their homes in the trees. It was a serene morning. Spring Harvest sat her basket down beside her and gazed at the beauty of her crops down below. It never failed to bring a smile to her face. She grabbed her basket and began to work. It was now mid day and Spring Harvest had already gathered a considerable amount of crops. She wiped the sweat from her brow and decided it was about time for some lunch. She hitched to her wagon and began to head back to her cottage. A streak of light lanced from the sky and immediately caught her attention. A ball of fire flew swiftly directly toward her. She ducked out of instinct as the flaming orb crashed down in the field behind her. She slowly peeked over her wagon and observed the smoking object in the field behind her. It looked like a strange metal ball. It steamed from the heat of entry to the atmosphere. A loud hiss sounded as the front of the orb lifted and a large mass stepped out. The beings scales glistened in the sunlight. It stood upright wore strange armor with large shoulder pads protruding from either side. "Hm. It appears to be teeming with life. Looks like brother has failed in his mission." His cold stare shifted now and looked directly at Spring Harvest. "Tell me, equine, who rules these lands?" "P-princesses Celestia and Luna" "Both equine like yourself I imagine?" "Y-yes" "Would you kindly point me in their direction?" "They both live in Canterlot" She pointed atop the mountain where Canterlot resides. "There" "You've been a fine help, thank you! My sincere apologies about your crops however." The intruder levitated far above the ground. "You'll be relieved to know that I've decided to kill you quickly in return for your help." "What?" The visitor raised his hand and shot a small beam at the pony. It struck the ground and created a deceptively large explosion that engulfed Spring Harvest and her wagon as well. All that remained was a smoldering heap of wreckage. "Looks like Tavurth will have to make a house call" he grinned with sinister delight as he jetted across the sky toward Canterlot. ______ "So your friends are taking well to their training" Princess Celestia asked as she sat upon her throne. "Yes. They are making great progress" Twilight replied. She had been in the presence of Celestia many times yet she still felt nervous when speaking with her. "Have you trained with them?" "No. I felt there's no need. I'm already at the peak of my performance." Twilight replied. "Hm" Celestia peered out the window "don't be so sure. There is always room for improvement, dear Twilight. never underestimate your self" "Yes of course" Twilight bowed "If you'll excuse us, Spike and I are going to get some lunch" Celestia nodded. "Take care Twilight and may the sun smile upon you." Twilight and Spike turned and exited the throne room. "What do you think she meant by that?" Spike asked. "I'm not sure. She's never said anything like that." "Does she think you can become stronger?" "I don't see how" Twilight said. "Well she is the one who recognized your potential even when you were just a foal" Twilight nodded. Celestia did have a knack for recognizing talent. Spike and Twilight sat at a table inside a diner near the castle. As they settled Spike observed a couple across the diner nuzzling their new born foal. Twilight picked up on this and put a wing around him. "You thinking about it again?" Spike nodded. "It's just hard to believe that no one knows where I came from." He sighed. "Not even Celestia" Twilight gave him a nuzzle. "It doesn't matter where you were, Spike. All that matters is where you are now." He knew she was right, but something always itched in the back of his mind about his origins. He shrugged it off for now. "Can I have the French Toast" "Of course, Spike" ______ "Have you felt it, Sister" Celetia asked as she walked into Luna's chambers. "Indeed I have. One very imposing power. Very near." Luna said "I sense that it far exceeds any native equestrian's power ten fold." "Indeed. Perhaps it was wise of Twilight to train her friends, yet I fear it be not enough." "I would not count them out so quickly" Celestia said "Come sister, for we have a guest" ______ "So I said to him 'If you want to proceed any farther I'm gonna need some I.D. but he just wasn't havin' it" A deep red guard pony said to the other guard that was positioned in front of the royal chambers. "So what did you do, Force?" Asked the other pony. "Well I gave him a good kick in the flanks is what I did" Force Defender said as he puffed his chest out. "Didn't see him again for a good month" "Sometimes ya gotta be forceful to get the point across" "Oh I couldn't agree more" The two ponies instantly took a defensive stance. Directly in front of them appeared to be a dragon in battle armor. "Are the Princesses around? I'd like counsel with them" "I don't think so, bub, why don't you just turn around and head the other way." Force said as he gave a stern look. "Well, you see" The dragon began as he slowly approached "I came a long way and I just need to speak with the Princesses" "He said back off" The second guard said as he charged forward. The intruder was swift and shot a clawed hand out and grabbed the guard by his neck. "Now now, that is police brutality, my dear boy" "PUT HIM DOWN!" Force began to charge but Tavurth held up his free hand. "One more step and I crush your friend's windpipe" Force stopped. A bead of sweat streaked down the side of his face. "Now, May I see the princesses." "FOR THE SUN!" Force charged. "Wrong move" Tavurth closed his hand, successfully collapsing the guard's windpipe and tossing him aside. He grabbed Force by the throat his his opposing hand and laid his other palm to rest on Force's chest. "You just have to be forceful sometimes, ya know" Tavurth gave a menacing grin "To get the point across" Tavurth fired a beam of energy from his palm and sent Force flying out the window. Tavurth burst through the large double doors. "Knock knock!" "That's quite far enough." Celestia's voice boomed though the great throne chamber. "Why do you seek to bring destruction to these lands" It was just Celestia and Tavurth in the throne room. Celestia's presence boomed in comparison to Tavurth. Yet, he remained cool and collected. "Well, you see" Tavurth began "I am under the employment of a certain individual that does business in interplanetary salvage. He strips planets of their natural resources and leaves the husks floating in space. As you can imagine the inhabitants of the worlds we slaughter are not very keen on being obliterated. That's where we come in. Some years ago we sent a small egg containing another Dormin like myself to this planet" "Dormin?" "Ah yes, the vernacular" Tavurth searched for the word "You call them dragons on this world. Anyway, this particular Dormin was from the same brood as I. My little brother. I came to this world because it is next in line for salvage. I'm sure you've felled the little brat. Tell me, did he pose much of a challenge?" "I do not recall meeting your brother" "Are you certain? He would be purple and green just as I am" "What point are you trying to make" "Right" Tavurth nodded "Since my brother failed his task it is up to me to now ready to planet. That means getting rid of any resistance" Tavurth grinned "That means getting rid of you and your sister that is approaching behind me" Tavurth jumped just as a dark bolt struck the floor where he stood. "Blast it! How did he now!" Luna cursed. "There are many things I've not told you your highness" Tavurth laughed as he hovered above the two alicorns. ______ "Did you hear an explosion come from the castle" Twilight asked with a mouthful of hashbrowns. "Look! in the window!" Spike pointed to the flashes of magical energy being emitted from the windows. "C'mon spike!" ______ "How do you fly without the aid of wings" Luna questioned "Like I said. I'm full of surprises" "Silence!" Celestia bellowed as she shot a bolt of magic which swallowed Tavurth. "Ha! that magic bubble should hold him for good." "Oh this?" Tavurth asked as he simply walked through the forcefield. "Might I add that your petty equine magic has no effect on a true blooded Dormin." Celestia broke out in a nervous sweat. "What do we do now, Sister?" Luna asked nervously "We take him out the old fashioned way" Celestia gave a battle cry and charged. "Hmph" Tavurth spat "Typical equine behavior" He threw a right punch that caught Celestia right in the jaw. She flew across the room, taking out a few support pillars along the way. "Pitiful" "Have at thee!" Luna said as she charged, horn lowered. "Do you equine ever learn" Tavurth said as he side-stepped Luna and brought a fist down on her horn causing her to flip out of control. Luna slammed the wall. She then only saw black. Tavurth grabbed Luna by the horn and drug her toward Celestia. He approached the sun goddess and grabbed her horn as well. "Now, how about we fix this to where you may never interfere with the coming plans, hm?" Tavurth grabbed firm both the horns and began the scream. He channeled the primal Dormin magic of his ancestors and began to seep the magic away from the royal sisters. He felt the equine magic enter his body. The sickening sweetness rolled inside and built up. The foundations of the palace began to shake from the power that Tavurth emitted. He looked toward the ceiling and gave a long deep belch as rainbow colored flames erupted from his mouth and quickly disrupted in the air. Twilight burst through the doors. "What is going on in here!? Who are you!" "Jeez! Another princess? how many are-" Tavurth paused. "Verath?" "Pardon?" Twilight asked. He was glaring at Spike. "Verath! So you did make it here. Tell me, why was all of life obliterated from this wretched world?" Tavurth asked as he approached Twilight and Spike. "Uh. My name is Spike" "Spike!? HA!" Tavurth gave a hearty laugh. "They gave you an equine name and you live among them!? I suppose I'm the only successful one of our brood. Since you never gave in to your Dormin instincts that would explain why you're still so tiny." "Twilight, what is he talking about?" "I'm not sure. I don't know who he is, but I know he means trouble." "Ah, yes, forgive me. I am Tavurth, older brother to 'Spike'" he shuddered at the name. "and I've come to destroy your entire race" "Not if I or the princesses have anything to say about it!" "Bah" Tavurth chuckled "I've no need to worry about your petty princesses any longer. Or you either for that matter." He raised his hand and charged an attack. Twilight instantly brought her wings forward to shield her and Spike from the attack. "Twilight! Help!" Spike squealed as he was drawn toward Tavurth. "Little brother Verath and I have some conditioning to do back at my spacecraft. Until we meet again, my dear." Tavurth shot of in an instant with little Spike in tow. It was then twilight saw the lifeless bodies of the princesses lying on the floor. "Princess Celestia! Luna!" She ran to them. "Are you Oka---" She paused in shock. Layin on the ground before her was the body of a unicorn and a pegasus. ______ What will happen to Spike? Will Celestia and Luna ever be the same? ThreeCelestia gasped as air filled her lungs. Her eyes shot open and she began to cough. "Princess!" Twilight said as she ran to her side. "What happened" "That fiend Tavurth" Celestia tried to rise, but her legs quivered and she fell back to the ground. "He's done something to my wings. I cannot feel them" Celestia said weakly. "Well" Twilight hesitantly began "They aren't there anymore" "WHAT" She wheeled her head around and only saw her bare back. She looked at Luna who lay motionless beside her. Luna's horn had been taken away. "We've been reverted back to before we ascended" Celestia said with a defeated tone. "I thought you were always an alicorn" Twilight began. "No. In fact we weren't even born here" Twilight gave an interested look. "Although" Celestia began "That would be a fine tale for another time" The doors to the chamber room opened and instantly the two ponies were on guard. A dark red pony limped in. "I'm sorry princess. I have failed you" He said weakly "Force Defender" Celestia said with relief. "You are alive!" She stood now. She was now significantly shorter now in this new form. Force looked to Luna "I have failed Luna as well" He paused for a second. "I want to help hunt him down" "Hunt him down?" Celestia asked "I would not put anymore lives in jeopardy. When Luna is awakened she and I will find him. We will protect Equestria. Just like it has always been" "What about the Elements of Harmony" Twilight asked "We protect Equestria too and we've been training just for a moment like this" Twilight stood confidently "We can beat him and get Spike back" "Get Spike back?" Celestia asked "He took Spike?" "Yes, he said that Spike was his brother" Celestia's eyes grew wide. "He plans to force Spike to help him destroy this planet like we has originally meant to do." "What!?" Twilight exclaimed "He said that Spike was supposed to ready the planet, not destroy it!" "It can be explained later, now go and get Spike. Luna and I will meet you at your castle. It is not safe for us here any longer" Twilight turned to Force "Were you serious about wanting to help?" "Of course" Force nodded "Although my leg is kind of banged up" "We can take care of that" Twilight said as she put her hoof on Force's shoulder "Try not to move" In the next instant they were gone in a puff of magic energy. "Good luck, my dear Twilight Sparkle" Celestia said with closed, sorrowful eyes. ______ Tavurth flung Spike to the ground outside his spacecraft. Spike sobbed and curled up on the ground. Tavurth gave a disgusted glance and turned to his pod. He opened the hatch and began to rummage inside. He pulled out an odd looking device with a lens and mounted it to the side of his head with the lens covering his left eye. Spike watched. "This is Tavurth, come in. Yes. I've touched down. I found Verath as well. Yes. He was raised by equines, he's barely the size of a hatchling" Tavurth gave a glance to Spike. "Copy that. Good hunting, Chrome. Over and out." Tavurth bent down to Spike's level. "It appears I have the go ahead to do what ever I like to your miserable home" "You won't get away with this" Spike said between sobs "I won't let you, Twilight won't let you." "Ha! You think I'm worried about your sissy pony friends?" Tavurth gave a devilish grin "No, I believe I will have fun in killing them one by one." Spike continued to cry. Not out of despair, but of anger. He felt something well up inside him. "Take that back" Spike said "What did you say" "I said. Take. That. Back." Spike's eyes now glowed a fearsome green. The device on Tavurth's head began to beep and he gave a worried look. Spike lunged. "TAKE IT BACK" He punched Tavurth square in the jaw, causing him to lose his balance. Spike was angry. He was breathing heavily. Every muscle in has body seemed to constrict and expand. He couldn't take it. He began to feel light headed. He then fainted and fell into the dirt. Tavurth rose up and rubbed his jaw. "That is what little brother is capable of, is it" He thought. "So he's not a complete weakling after all" He gave grin and tossed Spike into his pod. "This pod has Dormin atmospheric conditions in it. A few days in here should bring out the beast in him. Yes, this should work nicely to my advantage" He grinned once more and shut the pod. ______ "So lemme get this straight, there's an alien here who plans to destroy the planet and has kidnapped Spike,which turns out to be his brother, and its up to us to stop him" Rainbow Dash said. "That's pretty much the story" Twilight said. "Why are we waiting here? Let's go!" Rainbow dash shot off out the door of the castle. "RAINBOW DASH, WAIT!" It was too late. She was gone. "We have to get her back!" Force said as he rose up. Fluttershy gently pushed him back down "Mr. Defender, you need to relax and let me finish healing you, ok" Force nodded and lay back down. "We need to stop her!" Twilight said "I'm going after her. We still need to contact Rarity and AppleJack. Make sure they stay here. I'll explain the situation to them when I return" Force and Fluttershy nodded. "Wait, where's Pinkie Pie? She was just here" Twilight said. ______ Rainbow Dash stormed through the sky. She knew not where she was headed, only that she needed to find Spike. She stopped and scanned the surrounding area. Nothing out of the ordinary. She closed her eyes and concentrated. She tried finding any odd magic signatures. "Whatcha doin', Dashie?" "Not now, Pinkie" "Okay, I can wait." "Wait, What!?" Dash's eyes shot open and found Pinkie right beside her. Flying. "How are you doing that??" "Oh! I call it my Pinkie Fly technique. Basically all the magic I build up is released slowly to create an aura around myself which allows me to levitate. Neat, huh?" "You've gotta teach me!" Dash said with excitement. "I will after we find that meanie bo beanie that took Spike!" Dash nodded. "I couldn't sense that bad guy's energy anywhere." "They're over this way!" Pinkie pointed. "How do you know?" "You can't sense the badnik's energy because you've never felt it, silly. Just feel for Spike's and it's a no brainer!" Pinkie grinned. Dash blushed. "Oh yeah" "C'mon, It's this way!" Pinkie Streaked off through the sky to the west with Dash close behind. ______ Tavurth sat out side his spacecraft and finished a squirrel he had hunted. This planet really was miserable. "Just a few days time, Verath" He thought as he glanced to his brother. "As long as no ponies come to meddle, you and I will destroy these pathetic creatures. I'd even wager we could defeat -" "Hey scaley!" "Speak of the devil" "Heard you have our friend" Dash said from the sky. "You mean my whelp of a brother. Yes he is present." "We're gonna need him back." "No I do not think that is within my power to do." "Wrong answer" Dash bolted forward and delivered a punch to Tavurth's gut. He doubled over. "Now that was not nice" He said as he raised up and grabbed Dash's leg. "Hey!" She began to flap her wings, but could not reach the amount of lift she needed for take off. She slumped to the ground. "Now now, wings clipped already?" "RAINBOW BLITZ" Dash delivered a Blitz attack point blank to Tavurth's face. "Ha! How'd you like... Oh. Buck." Tavurth closed his mouth as the last of Rainbow Dash's attack went down his gullet. He pulled Rainbow Dash closer and belched in her face. His hot breath singed the hairs on her face. Tavurth tossed her aside. "You are a wiley one" He grinned. "Hiya" Said Pinkie at Tavurth's side. He glanced over. "Goodbye" He said as he blasted a bolt of energy at Pinkie. She exploded in a cloud of mist. "Hiya" She said again, this time from his right. "Hiya" "Hiya" "Hola" She had him surrounded. Pinkies everywhere. "I've no time for your parlor tricks." Tavurth punched the ground causing a shock wave that shook the Pinkie's causing them to disperse. All but one Pinkie remained. He approached her as she picked herself off the ground. "Hiya" he mocked as he raised his hand to her face. "Enough" Tavurth looked to the sky where Princess Twilight Sparkle loomed in the air. "Tavurth, although I am honor-bound by the laws of peace and amnesty, I am not afraid to fight for my friends. That being said, I issue you one warning, and one only: Leave this place or perish." Tavurth grinned a sickly smile. "I suppose the latter sounds appealing if you feel you can muster it." "So be it" Twilight raised her horn high to the sky and spread to her wings. A small ball began to form at the tip of her horn. "KAAAA" Twilight began. The ball of light began to grow. "MEEEEE" a purple aura formed around her body. "HAAAAAAA-MEEEE" "What's this?" Tavurth said as he checked his scouter. Her power level was rising considerably. Was there more to these ponies than he originally- "HAA!!!!" A light blue beam of pure energy lanced from her horn and landed square in the middle of Tavurth's chest. The power was immense! It knocked him back and off his feet. The light faded and Tavurth lay on the ground. He chuckled and rose to his feet. "Having never been effected by equestrian magic before, I must say that technique packs a punch. Not enough to damage me, but a punch none the less." Twilight broke into a nervous sweat. "I tell you what. I love a challenge and I can tell you have potential." Tavurth began. He held up three digits. "I give you three days to train and on the fourth day we will fight. Any longer and I begin to destroy your petty race." "What stops you from doing that anyway" Twilight said "Like you" Tavurth began "I am bound by my word. Dormin are a proud race and allow their challengers fair time to reach their peak of physical prowess" "I am nothing like you" Twilight scowled. Tavurth shrugged "What about Spike" Tavurth motioned to the pod where Spike lay. "No harm shall come to baby brother. He is quite safe in there." Rainbow dash and Pinkies came to Twilight's side. "What do you think, Twi?" Dash whispered. "He has a better hand than we do. I don't trust him, but we haven't much choice" She chewed her lip. "Three days?" Twilight called back. Tavurth nodded. "You have a deal" Twilight said "But if you so much as glance at another pony all deals are off and you will be terminated." "You have my word, Princess." "Yes, three days time should be plenty for baby brother to realize his potential. Then I will use him to destroy the ponies he once called friends. Train hard Twilight, you fool." Tavurth thought. The three ponies bolted back to Ponyville to begin the grueling three day wait. What does Tavurth have planned? Will three days be enough for Twilight and her friends to train?
