The Never Forgotten Belly Rub
"I'm glad you could come." said Fluttershy to a new mare, one of her new friends. Angel Bunny had to cope with her making friends. First there were the six mares, then the mutated floating animal that could make anything appear, then the green mare that seemed to have had something bad in her food. (Ever since he met the last one, he had been cautious about eating any feed that he suspected had an antibiotic in it)
Now there was another new friend, another face for Fluttershy to turn to besides his own. Angel hated seeing Fluttershy spending time with other ponies and whatever the claw snapping jerk was. It was already bad enough that there were a thousand other animals for her to take care of besides him, but did she really have to add eight mares and the ugly one to the list?
The more 'friends' Fluttershy had, the less attention he gained!
"Thanks! I thought I could use a little break from my friendship assignment."
"Oh? What's it about this time?"
"I have to make a new friend before Princess Celestia visits us for dinner. It's kinda stressful with how it's so hard to make just one friend in one day..."
"Oh, I know what you mean! I'm not very good at making friends myself..."
(That's because she doesn't even need to in the first place!)
"Oh my!" said Fluttershy as Angel Bunny suddenly angrily stomped on the ground. It wasn't as loud as it would be on a wooden floor, since they were instead in the open field where the ground is thick to no end; but it still had its effect none of the less. "I'm sorry Angel, I forgot your carrots! I'll be right back!"
Angel Bunny facepawed as she was clearly once again oblivious to Angel's real problem, but a good carrot was something never to pass down... unless she said something stupid like 'don't forget to finish your carrot!'. Doesn't she know she can't tell him what to do?
"Aren't you a bratty little fella?" asked the mare ever so harshly! Angel folded his arms and rolled his eyes.
"Come here..." she said as she approached him. He knew that he hated her, but he could never turn down some attention, so he allowed her. She... actually looked kind of sweet and... cute...?
Before Angel could further question it, he felt her hoof scratch against his ear. His back leg thumped like his cousin Thumper as he felt a wave of warmth wash over him. She smiled, and it made his heart melt. So much so that he accidently fell over, an accident he was glad he made. With his stomach exposed, the mare seized the opportunity and began to rub his belly. He felt like he was in heaven! He felt like he could dance and sing! He giggled, and she giggled back.
"You're adorable! But... probably not what Twilight had in mind."
And then it stopped. Her hoof left his furry belly, then she turned to leave.
Angel Bunny watched as the mare just walked away. He couldn't think of anything else in that instant besides that mare. The way her soft, cotton candy coloured hoof rubbed against his belly, the smile under those light violet eyes; he wished the time that felt like an eternity of petting and love could last just as long.
He remembered her sweet, honey like voice as she said, 'You're adorable!'. The thought made him fill with happiness and his heart pump harder. She thought he was adorable! Sure, he already knew he was cute, (the cutest in the entire cottage, in fact) but to hear her say that... it was like a sunrise after years of darkness, or fresh fertilizer after years of dying grass.
But then his thoughts turned to what she said next, 'but... probably not what Twilight had in mind'. Twilight was the unicorn that long ago grew wings, which the enigma of how, when, and why Angel never bothered to ponder upon because it didn't affect him in anyway.
But... what did she mean by that? Was she looking for a mate? It was May, not Febuary, so why start so early before the pony mating season? Perhaps maybe when Twilight found a mate, she grew wings. Did ponies perhaps work like that? That when a unicorn or a pegasus finds a mate, she grows wings or a horn depending on which she didn't have? Maybe it's a phase of life for a pony.
If that's so, then Applejack and Pinkie Pie must be the youngest of Fluttershy's friends since they didn't have any wings or horns. Fluttershy is a year older than Pinkie Pie, after all, so it made sense.
So if that's so... then maybe Twilight felt that this beautiful mare was ready to mate. That also made sense, for she had beauty beyond reason. He sighed as he watched the two sea blue swirls and single grape purple star move away.
He wondered if he could ever see her again. It would be nice to return the favor by petting her soft mane that matched the elegant colours of her cutiemark. She did say 'but not what Twilight had in mind', so was he not worthy of her love? Was he really 'not what Twilight had in mind'?
Nigh!
She said 'probably not what Twilight had in mind', as he recalled. He could remember every word she said within those few seconds, how beautiful they sounded with the way she pronounced them...
Okay, focus!
So if he was 'probably' not suitable, then that meant she was only unsure. If so, then he had to make her sure!
Suddenly, Fluttershy came back with his carrots, but Angel didn't care. He could hear a sigh behind her, and he knew why. Ponies had been easily bored of her picnics, and it was rare for a pony to have the patience for it. Angel Bunny probably would have sympathized for her if it weren't for the fact that the love of his life was walking away before his eyes.
Quickly, he turned around and tugged at Fluttershy.
"Hah? What is it, Angel?"
Angel pointed where his happy eternity had left.
"Oh, Starlight Glimmer?"
'Starlight Glimmer'... oh how her name is just as beautiful of a ring. Ring... engagement ring... nah.
"What about her?"
'What about her'? 'What about her'?! Everything about her, that's what!
"'Everything'?" asked Fluttershy after she processed his squeaks, "You don't mean..."
Angel sighed with a stupid grin as more hearts flew in the air.
"U-um, Angel Bunny...? You know she's a pony, right?"
The world suddenly stopped.
"I'm sorry Angel, but I don't think she thinks of you that way. You're only an adorable little bunny, after all."
Oh no... this can't be...
"But I'm sure she likes you as a friend, at least. You understand, right?"
Oh, he quite did... Fluttershy didn't approve of his true love!
"Oh, Angel, please calm down. I'm sure there's--"
Fluttershy's small cup of tea flew in the air from the kick of a bunny.
"Angel!"
He stuck his tongue out to her.
"Angel Bunny! Bad boy!"
Suddenly, there was a snap of shame. It stung as his head hung low at that dreadful phrase, one any animal never wanted to hear. Mr. Bear growled a few assuring ones, and Angel nodded at his wisdom. She was a pony, after all.
And he was only a big, dumb, stupid bunny.
"O-oh, Angel, don't you cry... don't you cry..." cooed Fluttershy as she scooped him into her loving hooves. "It's okay, Angel Bunny. It's okay... mommy's here..."
Angel curled into her soft butter coated chest. Suddenly, he was turned over and he felt a hoof rub against his belly.
"There there, Angel Bunny..."
Angel soon giggled and completely forgot his worries.
