Author's Note

This is the first of many chapters to come. Each will tell of the milestones of Snow's life. Please leave your thoughts to this first chapter of her life down in the comments . No, it's not a typo when I write "he", Snow is a transgender pony as you will see with the story.

ITS A BOY

Atop the snowy mountains in the horizon of Equestria is the great capitol of Canterlot. This city was built thousands of years ago on the side of these slopes and has marked the greatness of the union between all ponies for an infinite number of generations. The three races of pegasi, unicorns, and earth ponies have been in harmony together under the rule of the princesses of the sun and moon. These ponies are given their supreme magic and power from the divine and are most easily recognized by their having horns just like the unicorns, delicate wings like the pegasi, and strong and proud body frames like the earth ponies. These two sisters are alicorns and maintain harmony over their kingdom in day or night, awake or dream, and rain or shine. Though, in their many years of existence, nopony will touch their lives or their kingdom in the way the Sparkle family is destined to bring.

Winter had come unusually early one year. On an October morning it began snowing in the silent streets of Canterlot. The sun had barely begun to rise over as the gas-powered street lights turned off. For that moment, the streets were dark and quiet. The only light to be seen was lightly emitting from the gentle snow flakes as they gently touched the ground.

The cloud-filled sky dimly lit the streets as morning crept in. However, passed the empty winds of silence and slumber in the kingdom, a hospital room was filled with life.

The doctor was close to the mare with his hooves held closely, "Miss Velvet, you're doing wonderful. Please just keep a steady pace of breathing and continue pushing."

Night Light, or better known as Mr. Sparkle, had little patience during this moment. "Her name is Mrs. Sparkle!" he snapped at the doctor. "And you let me tell her what to do!"

Twilight Velvet didn't acknowledge her husband's poor choice of words and said through quick, heavy breaths, "Just let the doctor do... let the doctor do his job, hon... honEY!" Her voice raised up quickly as loudly as she fought the pain of another contraction. Mr. Sparkle held and stroked her hoof gently as she battled.

The mother's screams filled the room as she groaned against the pain of pushing. Her face became red as she became dizzy. "HONEY!" her husband called. Just as she was losing her breath and about to give up, a baby's crying emerged in the room.

The doctor carefully collected the tiny foal as the father starred in awe to witness the birth of his child while holding the mother's light gray hoof. The mother fell back against her pillow without breath as she tried to regain her own balance as her sickness and pains turned to endorphins and exhaustion.

"It's a BOY!" the doctor exclaimed victoriously as he handed the parents their new foal. The foal was wrapped up in a blue blanket by the doctor upon delivery which the baby cried into. That baby became the parents' whole world as they looked at it for the first time at their dark blue furred son. "Aaawe..." The mother began to cry and held the baby close. As she did this, the foal started to calm down and soon no longer cried.

The doctor shared the family's warm moment until it was time to get the first documents of the pony's life. He took his gloves off and washed his hooves at the nearby sink then sat at his desk, taking out important enough looking papers. Taking a quill out then dabbing it in ink, "Have you both already decided on a name?"

The family did not break their warm moment. The father looked out the window. While the morning grew brighter, one could see more of the little cold flakes falling down from the sky, catching in the breeze. Smiling with the mother of how fate smiled at them with what they had planned. Both now looking at the doctor, Velvet said softly, "His name is Snow."
