The Origin of the Mare-Do-Well
It was two days after the incident with Psycho Mask, in which the new Mare Do Well has saved the day with the help of some heroes. And what's amazing enough is that this new one isn't any of the Mane Five this time!
"Well, at least things has toned down a bit." Ben said as he sat in his chair in the living room in relief.
"Right, I'm glad the new Mare Do Well helped us out." Twilight said with a light smile.
"I still has no idea who that new one is." Rainbow remarks as she sat in her chair in amusement. "But at least she isn't show boating me like what happened."
"I was meaning to ask about that...what happened?" Nyx ask her mother and her adopted aunts curiously. "What gave you the idea to teach Auntie Dashie a lesson?"
"Knowing them, they probably didn't consult Rainbow about it first." Phobos remarks as he roll his eyes.
"Actually, they did tried to speak to Rainbow." Spike said to Phobos in concern.
"Mind telling us that story?" Ben ask the Mane Six curiously. "Mind you, I was a Demon Pony during that time, Nyx wasn't born yet...and Phobos hasn't escaped from his imprisonment."
"Well, it's like this...you don't mind, Rainbow?" Applejack ask Rainbow curiously, wondering if her friend would mind talking about it.
"Hay, I don't mind." Rainbow remarks with a shrug. "Go ahead."
"Well, it's like 'dis, sugah cube. It was during the time when Rainbow is getting a lot of attention...and we're done concerned about her...ego..."
"Yeah, it takes guts." Rainbow chuckles as a filly runs up and hugs her. "But it also takes brains." The mare go through a serious of pictures being taken as a different filly zips up to pose with her in each one. "And sometimes a big lunch and a nap. Being a hero is surely not for everypony, but I’m up to the challenge."
Everypony else is impressed...all but her friends especially Twilight and Applejack who looks at each other in annoyance. They all sneak out of the room, taking Spike with them.
"Whoa, what gives, girls?" Spike ask, pondering why he is being dragged along.
"Girls...I'm worried about Rainbow." Twilight said seriously to her friends. "It's nice that she's being a hero and all, but..."
"She's letting the whole thing go to her head, we know darling." Rarity said in agreement. "We must do something."
"Oh! Will we do something not in the actual episode?" Pinkie ask with a wide grin, making the others roll their eyes.
"We should talk to her." Fluttershy said meekly. "I mean, if it's okay."
"Yeah...problem is, Rainbow is so filled with ego, she may not listen." Applejack said in concern. Knowing Rainbow, she rather listen to her fans than to her friends.
"Yeah, I know...but we gotta try." Twilight said with a nod of concern. If Rainbow doesn't stop letting her ego drive her, she may end up hurting somepony!
Rainbow laughs as she did some stunts in the skies, laughing excitedly. The mare loves being a hero.
"Hey, sugah cube! Hey, Rainbow!" Applejack calls out to Rainbow.
"Yeah, what's up, AJ?" Rainbow ask, smirking as she flew to near her level.
"Uh, pardon if I done interrupt your little show here, but can we talk?"
"We can talk...in front of my fans. They don't mind."
The fans cheers onward. Applejack rolls her eyes then sighs, "Listen, sugah cube. The girls and I have been talking. We are done concerned you may be taking this out of hoof."
"Oh, you're right." Rainbow said with a smirk. Applejack looks surprised, does this mean she's listening? "I gotta take it WAY out of hoof! Who wants to see me do the Sonic Rainboom?!"
"No, that ain't..." Applejack yelps as Rainbow flies into the air, much to her annoyance. "…what I was talking about..."
Next it's Rarity's turn. Rainbow is in a big shirt that said "I Am Awesome” on it with a Rainbow like hat on her head while somehow holding up some fillies on a bench.
"Rainbow, darling. What I wish to talk to you is a big problem, a big dramatic moment." Rarity said seriously to Rainbow. "It's a big disaster if you keep on doing what you're going."
"What? Don't like my outfit?" Rainbow ask Rarity. She got the wrong idea that her friend is concerned about her clothes.
"Darling, that isn't..."
"You're wrong-o! Just because I don't do fancy, doesn't mean I gotta stop being cool! But thanks for the input."
"Rainbow! I mean..." Rarity screams as Rainbow tosses the bench which fell right on her, knocking the white unicorn down. The fillies on it don't mind as they giggle like mad.
Rarity groans in frustration.
Pinkie took her turn to bat. And what I mean is that she is holding a ball while chasing Rainbow. But not to hit her, hay no! She wanted to talk to her...and play baseball!
"Hey, Dashie! Hey Dashie! Hey Dashie!" Pinkie giggles as she bounces up and down, chasing Rainbow like she normally does when the Earth pony wanna catch up with her.
"Yeah, Pinks, what?" Rainbow ask Pinkie, keeping his patience with her.
"Can we talk? Can we talk? Can we talk?"
"Fine, talk while we run/fly."
Pinkie giggles while waving her bat around, "The girls and I are worried you may be Super Duper Egotistical!"
"Oh, as in being a superhero? Yeah, Super Duper Egotistical!" Rainbow exclaims, doing a pose. But then she did some thinking and frowns. "Wait, lame name. Seriously, Pinks? Can't you think of anything else?"
"But we're worrying you're rubbing your success in ponies' faces and..."
"Oh, not all the time...JUST EVERYPONY WHO IS COOL!"
Rainbow laughs as she speeds off ahead. Pinkie stops, frowning in disappointment.
"Wait! I wanna play baseball with you!" Pinkie yells out in desperation, then groans in frustration.
Next is...Fluttershy. And...well...
"Well, Rainbow...uh, well..." Fluttershy said, trying to find the courage to explain to Rainbow who arches an eyebrow at her. "We're...well; how to put this...uh..."
"Oh, let me!" Twilight groans as she moves Fluttershy aside to confront Rainbow. "Rainbow, listen! You're letting your success as a hero get to your head! You don't have to be a jerk while doing so! I mean, its fine being a hero...but try to..."
"Oh, I see...you're jealous!" Rainbow remarks with a smirk, much to Twilight's further annoyance.
"That isn't what I meant."
"Yeah, it's okay to be jealous of how awesome and better hero that I am! No worries, I will let my friends get their time in the sun. When I'm done! Maybe not for a long time but who knows?"
"But Rainbow!" Twilight groans as her friend flew off to entertain more fans. "For the love of Celestia!!!"
"Oh, sorry. Did I mess up?" Fluttershy ask Twilight meekly and guilt-ridden.
A while later, the Mane Five meet over at the library. Spike was reading some comic books to speak of their talks...which didn't go well.
"Ugh! That pony is hard to speak to than a brick wall!" Applejack groans as she slaps her forehead. "All is in her head is being hero like!"
"Right, and she accused me of dissing her outfit?!" Rarity snaps in frustration. "I mean, sure, it's a bit uncouche but she didn't even let me speak!"
"And she won't play ball with me!" Pinkie cries out in despair. The pink random pony notices her friends giving her odd looks. "Oh, wait, were we talking about Dashie being an ego head or baseball?"
"Well, I...I didn't go too far." Fluttershy said meekly.
"It's obviously talking to Rainbow won't work. We need to show her that being a hero isn't about going on an egotrip but to be a hero with humility." Twilight said with a frown.
"Oh yes, I agree. But how will we do that?"
"Right, we try to show her up and Rainbow would just accuse us of being jealous mares." Applejack remarks with a frown. "That mare knows us way too well."
"What we need is somepony that she doesn't know. Somepony that is new to Ponyville." Rarity remarks with a frown, trying to think up a solution to this.
"Someone who won't get us stunned and reviled like in some guy's fan-fiction who didn't like the episode we're in!" Pinkie exclaims randomly, making her friends roll their eyes. If Rainbow was here and not showing off, she would say that the pink pony was random.
"Yeah, too bad you girls aren't like the heroes in my comic book." Spike remarks, reading a comic book.
"Uh, whatcha reading, Spike?" Applejack ask, noticing the issue that he's reading.
"Power Ponies! A story of ponies with secret hero identifies, saving the world and doing so with humility...well, most of the time."
"Hmmm...." Twilight said thoughtfully as she looks at the heroines on the comic book issue. The unicorn smirks, having an idea. "Girls, I got an idea...."
Rarity was hard at work on making costumes for Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Applejack. Once she's done, the white unicorn passed them as she spoke, "There. Try them on, darlings."
The mentioned four didn't waste time in trying the outfits on. Spike grins, observing while speaking, "Cool! You all look like heroes."
"All right, here's the plans, girls. We will take turns being the Mare Do Well, so not to arouse Rainbow's suspicion. Once the new heroine become a hit, we will break the news to Rainbow gently as possible." Twilight said with a smirk of determination. In other words, once the new heroine becomes a bigger hero than Rainbow, they will break the news to Rainbow as gently as possible.
"Oh, we aren't going to hurt ponies to do so, are we?" Fluttershy ask Twilight nervously and worried.
"No way! I am not that desperate to prove a point to Rainbow! We just need to step in when the time calls for it."
"So what shall we called the new heroines?" Applejack ask Twilight for a name of the new hero of Ponyville.
Twilight pauses, doing her best to think up a name. She needs a name that won't arouse too much suspicion...but a name that will last a lifetime.
"We shall called her..."Mare-Do-Well"." Twilight said with a nod. Applejack, Fluttershy and Rarity smiled in approval.
"Oh! That's a play on the term "ne'er-do-well," a person who is completely lacking in merit." Pinkie said in delight.
"Pinkie, darling, you are so random." Rarity remarks, rolling her eyes.
"And then, we went out to be hero and you know the rest." Twilight said in the present, ending the story to those not in the know how.
"Yeah...I gotta admit, you girls play a trick on me...but at the same time, you were right." Rainbow remarks awkwardly as she rubs the back of her head. "I should've listen to you fully instead of my head."
"Really?" The Mane Five ask Rainbow in amusement.
"Okay and to act with grace and humility and not with selfish arrogance so as to avoid losing the appreciation of the townsponies as well as causing a rift of jealousy between me nd her friends. And while it's okay to be proud of your accomplishments, you should never brag about them. Lay off!"
The others laughs as Rainbow rolls her eyes in her seat. Hoo boy.

"Mina's Visit (set shortly after "Not All Alternate Timelines Are Bad"): Mina, a Dragontown resident from Fillydelphia (whom Spike and Luna briefly met a while back), arrives in Ponyville to visit Spike during a brief quiet period and ends up meeting Spike's big brother Zylon (introduced in "the Consequences"). What will happen? Who knows?
Note: At this point, Zylon and Mina will be just friends, but that may or may not change, depending on what Zylon's creator feels on the matter."
