"Be there in a minute, damn it"

The bleach-haired girl rushed over to her kitchen, and shoved some oven mitts over her hands and turned over to her oven,  pulling out the sheet of bone-shaped doggy biscuits and placed it in the counter next to her, she turned around to see her dog looking up from her food bowl and sniffed the air, the blue-furred, Terri-Span-whatever breed she was shot her an equal parts accusatory and demanding glare looking up at the biscuit her owner held in her hand and growled.

"No Emery, you can only have this when Flutters and Spike come over" tapping the treat on her nose and the swiftly putting it back on the baking sheet, Emery shot her an annoyed glare and went back to her food

Gilda bit her lip, she usually tried her best to avoid the half-assed insults she usually makes, it caused her trouble in the past and lost a few friends I her arrogance, she'd probably kill her Grandfather at some point if one of her old friend Dash's friend had not been so...persistent in improving her scones. She laughed partly at the thought of her outlook changing over something so inconsequential. She turned over to stroke Emery's head, which was met with annoyance from the dog. It was shocking how much she reminded her of her.

"There is no pleasing you, Em you know that" the dog did not make eye contact and went back to her food. She turned over to the balcony of her house overlooking the alleyways and rundown buildings of Canterlot City's Griffonstone district simply waiting for Fluttershy and Spike to come up the steps, in hindsight meeting her at her house in her neighborhood was not the best Idea she didn't really help her case by making a scrawny little girl a couple years younger than her walk through such a sketchy neighborhood. She hit the corner of her mouth at this thought.

She was half-relived to see Flutters (followed by a couple other girls about her age) walk up to her apartment, followed by a couple knocks. Gilda barley brushed the doorknob before the girl bursted in followed by a girl she recognized a bit, though the outfit was way different then it was when they first interacted.

"I believe we have may have met before?"

"If we did I probably been trying to forget it."

"I sent your senile grandfather loose in the school looking for you because you gave me that black eye."

"There are worse things down to me because I gave someone a black eye"

"*Ahem*"

The girls turned to who Gilda assumed to be Fluttershy or Flutters from what she heard Tree Hugger say hoping to address the whole point of the affair when are second girl Gilda saw her with bursted through almost complete out of breath.

"Dude they are just steps." The white haired girl once again bit her lip at the sight of the girl, who was wearing thick black-rimmed glasses.

"I-I hope you don't mind Twilight came the dog IS hers, after all, and Sunset looked like she wanted to tag along.”

“Fair enough.” she turned over to Emery and picked her up showing her the purple dog Flutters was holding “look, Emery, it…it’s…that dog.”

“Spike.

“Right" Gilda looked at him "say hi to Emery, Spike.”

“Hi there, you look kinda cute!…” Gilda gasped and stared down at the dog

“Woof!?”

Gilda just shook her head at looked at Flutters, her old punching bag all through Middle School and High school, this felt awkward, what should she say to make her feel any less suspicious, or if that was even how she felt, she heard this girl had quite the temper when the situation demanded it (or not). A zoo of emotions flowed through the bleach-haired girl, she bit her lip and sputtered “Do you like animals?” before mentally facepalming.

Flutters seemed to take it in stride though, as her cheesy response was any indication “Oh yes, all kinda of animals, dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, reptiles, even snakes and spiders sometimes.” Flutters smiled but not to brightly, she was the type to avoid most attention.

Gilda looked down at Spike, who was giving Emery pats on her head, a move that annoyed the auquamarine-furred dog “Sssssstop it!” she growled.

Gilda’s mouth dropped open “The Hell!?”

Emery paw flew to her mouth then she inspected her paw, moving it in ways a dog should NOT be able to move their paw. “Whoa.”

Her dog tried to play it cool, but Gilda was all over the place pointing her finger and shouting “why does weird stuff always happen around you lackeys!!!” she raised her voice as all her shock, fear and surprise transformed into anger, making her say a few things she will most definitely regret “oh my gosh, why did i invite the weird [bleep] [bleep] tree hugger hippie to do some weird [bleep] [bleep] [bleep] to Emery.”

“You know, I kinda think ‘Ember’ is a bit cooler.”

“WHATEVER! I’m gonna find some weird gypsy woman or something to fix this.”

Flutters looked shocked and ran off to go cry, while the girl presumed to be sunset ran after her. Meanwhile Gilda stormed down the steps of her building, dog in ams when she felt someone tug at her shirt.

“What was that.”

“My feelings, I screwed up didn’t I!”

“Gee, ya think?” Emery (or maybe “Ember”) looked down “That did not help didn’t it.”

“who wouldn’t” Gilda looked at Sunset surprised at her sympathy “it’s kinda a long story, but my principal wanted me to study some energy around the school that started popping up at random times, or at least random from my perspective at the time, i wanted to have an out of town friend help me, but she didn’t show up, I got frustrated, and I snapped at some other girl, who was ‘messing around with it’ so to speak, I snapped at her, relegating to my old ways of bullying people and pushing people who meddle out of my way, it was only for a brief moment, but it made the situation ten times worse, eventually, this girl was pressured to use the energy she had captured to win a sporting event between our two schools, don;t ask me how that was supposed to work, but then she became a big raging she-demon, bent on gaining all possible knowledge about this energy and where it came from by ripping open portals, and stuff, when this happened a part of me wanted to turn around and yell at the public education system or something equally stupid, but i eventually turned around and realized how the energy works i was able to return it to it’s place, my friends, i’ll tell you later, and returned this girl to normal.” Gilda bit the corner of her mouth wondering the point, but not interrupting worrying she will make it worse between them “look, i know that is winded, but the point is, I get your confusion and shock, my lecture to that girl would have been more extreme if I did not have experience with this energy before, but you probably just made things worse.”

“I don’t get how this helps me”

“Look, I’ll try to clear things up, this ‘energy’ i talked about is ‘equestrian magic’ basically there is an alternate universe where everyone is a pony or in your case a griffon, that place runs on magic, and there are shreds of it here, when that girl was messing around with the ‘magic’ she took the magic from my friend and some of it ended in Spike, causing him to talk, either because that friend’s counterpart in the pony world could talk to animals or because it caused spike to ‘line up’ with his own counterpart in the pony world, who was a dragon, species that are are capable of speech in that world, don’t ask me why dragons somehow are dogs here…” there was a brief pause “…anyway Spike may have passed on his magic, making your dog talk as well as walk on hind legs and other stuff dogs can’t…normally…do.”

“You sound like a crazy person.”

“I know, I don’t expect this to be all that immediately conceivable to to a 20-something scone baker from the Griffonstone district, but that’s…”

“I did not say I don’t believe you in some degree…” Gilda thought back to those times Grandpa Gruff gave her his newspaper, and just thought he had picked up the tabloids instead of the actual paper again “…it actually explains a bit, this is just so crazy.”

“I won’t go out of my making sure you know every single facet of equestrian magic but I don’t want you to freak out and bully people because your dog is talking, especially in your case, I hope this clears things up for you, and you can breathe easy knowing your dog is not an alein or whatever you were thinking.”

Gilda gave a dejected sigh “It is Still weird”

“I know, but can you pretend it’s not weird, just for today, Flutttershy, Twi and Spike are hopefully still in your house, and I don’t think you invited them over because you have a new dutch oven ha ha.”

“Oh crap, right, them, heheh!”

The two girls and dog walked back up the steps  waiting to enjoy the rest of the day

“Just between you and me Ember, I hate talking dog movies.”

Who doesn’t.”
