Applebloom walked into the kitchen with a yawn, as she walked out she saw the table covered in a breakfast of pancakes and waffles, and Applejack, looking exhausted, making some more, Big Macintosh, who was also in the kitchen at the time, looked exhausted as well
Applebloom trotted up to her siblings "Happy Mother's Day!" she shouted, although she knew her mother wasn't living with her and her siblings, her grandmother, Granny Smith, was usually a good substitute, she and Applejack would usually plan a present for her together, while Big Mac would plan his own
"Good mornin' Applebloom" Applejack said, although her voice sounded weak, Applebloom thought her sister must have been up all night with how she was
Applejack sat at the table, slowly she got to her breakfast, Big Mac was the same, Applebloom got to the table with an excited hop
"So, Applejack, do ya' have a present planned for Granny Smith yet?" Applebloom questioned with a mouth full of pancake
Applejack swallowed "Oh, that, yeah... Sorry... haven't really ben' able to come up with an’thing" she scratched her head
Applebloom looked closer at her sister, she looked exhuasted, but her tone of voice was sorrowful "What's wrong, Applejack?"
Applejack had spit out her waffle after hearing her little sister's question "Well, uhhhh..." she finished eating, same with Applebloom and Big Mac, they all got up from the table
"Okay, well, do ya' really wanna hear? I mean, I don't wanna ruin your day or an'thing..."
"I'm sure it's not that bad, Applejack! I can take it!"
Applejack put her hoof on her sister's shoulder "Well, ya' see... Uhhh... Do ya' know why I go out of Sweet Apple Acres every year on the same day between Mother's Day and Father's Day?"
"Because you say your visiting our mom and dad? And that you can't bring me for personal reasons?"
"And I take it you know how I say that our mom is... Well, living far away from us for your own good?" Applejack's eyes started to well up with tears, Applebloom's as well, she hated seeing her sister cry, she was usually such a strong pony who only ever cried on the inside
"Ye- Yes, Applejack?" Applebloom feared what was coming next, her heart and her thoughts raced
Applejack wiped a tear from her eye, and then continued, with her voice breaking "Well... I kinda lied about all that..."
"What do ya' mean?" Applebloom asked
"I mean that, when you were only a few days old... Mom and dad... They died in an accident..."
Applebloom looked shocked "W- What!? They can't be dead! You said they're alive!" Her thought's were racing, Applejack... Lied? She couldn't of, Applejack is the most honest pony in all of Ponyville, maybe even Equestria
"It’s true," Applejack replied "And it happened between Mother's Day and Father's Day” Applejack sighed “That's why I looked so down today, me and Big Mac, we were trying to find a way to tell you"
Applebloom felt both sad and angry at the same time, why did Applejack lie to her? Her own sister?
"What I wanna know, is why did you lie to me for so long!? It coulda' been way easier to just know so I didn't have to feel hopeful!"
"Look, Applebloom, I just thought you weren't quite ready to know, you're still a little pony!"
"Not ready? Not ready? I'm pretty sure I've been ready to know that my parents are dead and I’ll never meet them!" she trots off to her room and slams the door
"I can't believe my own sister lied to me like that!" she shouted to herself
she trotted into her bed and lied down, she cried in silence, not only because she found out that her parents were dead, but also because her sister had lied to her about it for so long
Applejack had trotted atop a hill, she held flowers in her mouth and and sat down, she put them on the graves and tears dripped down her face, she would of asked Applebloom to come, but because of how she snapped at her, and how she's still kinda grumpy about it, she felt it wasn't worth it
She heard another ponies hoofsteps behind her, and she quickly wiped away her own tears, and looked towards where the noise was coming from, it was Applebloom with a bouquet of flowers in her mouth
"Applebloom, what are ya' doing here?"
Applebloom put the flowers down "I wanted to come with, sorry I was so angry with ya', it's just that, you've never lied to me before, I felt so betrayed"
Applejack bore a small smile, which turned quickly back into a frown, she looked at the graves once more and tears started to drip once more, she tried to hide them
"It's okay, you can cry, I won’t judge" Applebloom said
Applejack then cried and lied on the ground, Applebloom put her hoof on her sister's shoulder and looked at the graves
"Must've been tough losing them" Applebloom said
Applejack looked up "Yup, it was, especially when I was there, they told me to get help, but by the time I started to trot away to get some, it was too late
"After it happened I would look up at the sky ev'ry night, wonderin' if things coulda' been different"
Applejack and Applebloom looked up at the sky, now covered in stars
“Come on, sis” Applebloom broke the silence “let’s get back home, the family reunion is tomorrow”
