        “Twilight i’m sure it was nothing!” a drowsy Spike snapped at Twilight.

        “NOTHING!” shrieked Twilight. “An explosion in the everfree at 5 o'clock in the morning was NOTHING!”

        “Fine maybe it was something!” yawn “But did ya have to wake me up?”

        “Yes, Spike I did! I need my number one assistant on this mission! I have no idea what this could have been!” snapped Twilight in respond.

        A grumble was all she got in return. Honestly some ponies… er some-dragons could be completely odd sometimes! I mean, who wouldn’t love to research? The thrill at discovering new possibilities, walking in other ponys footsteps, and following a trail of knowledge and discovery, I mean come on!

        “Oof!” Twilight exclaimed. Caught up in her mental rant, Twilight had completely forgotten where she was going, and had unceremoniously run into one of the many trees of the everfree forest.

        “Uh, Twilight, are you okay?” Spike inquired.

        “Yes, fine. Just got caught up in my thoughts.” Twilight answered, shaking a few loose twigs from her mane. “Lets keep going.”

        The rest of the time was spent in silence as twilight mulled over the possibilities of the explosion. Could it have been a manticore, or a cockatrice, or even a hydra. No, that was impossible.

A manticore couldn’t even had produced an explosion, let alone an explosion that size. A hydra might have, but they would have heard its roars and saw it. The cockatrice was simply out of question. Could it be another threat that only the elements of harmony could stop! Could it be a…..

“Uh Twilight, you should see this.”

“Huh?”

Twilight and Spike had arrived in a clearing in the Everfree adjacent to the Castle of the Two Sisters. The explosion had left a crater in the middle of the clearing.That wasn’t the curious thing though. The curious thing was the smoky haze surrounding the crater, making it impossible to see what’s inside.

“What is it?” Spike inquired.

“I have no idea… I’m gonna touch it.”

“WHAT! Twilight are you sure? We have no idea what it could be! It could be dangerous!”

“Oh Spike, I’m sure it’s oka…

BOOM

        “Uuhgan..”

        When Twilight had started to respond to Spike, a blast had rocked the land and sent Twilight and Spike flying. The force of the explosion was almost as big as the explosion that had rocked Ponyville hours before.

“Twi...Twilight...Are you okay?”

“S-spike?”

“What was tha…”

At that moment Twilight heard a noise coming from the crater. The smokey haze had returned over the hole. Suddenly a flash appeared over the hole, and a silhouette of a large alicorn rearing in the smoke.

“Did you see that?” Spike asked twilight, staring in awe at the smoke.

“Ya-yes. What is it? How is it making that smoke?”

“Um, Twilight, the question i’m asking is what is making that noise?”

“Huh?”

Twilight listened hard for a moment. Spike was right. Coming from the hole were noises of a pony rustling, and wings fluttering. Twilight was puzzled. It sounded like a pegasus pony, but a normal pegasus pony couldn’t have made an explosion, let alone one that size. But what if it wasn’t a normal pegasus pony...

“Spike, I’m going to part the smoke.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea? I mean, what if it’s dangerous?”

“I know Spike, but listen. It sounds like a pony. Can’t you hear its wings?”

“Well, ya but still..”

“It’s okay Spike. If anything happens to me you can get a letter to the princess.”

“Fine.”

Twilight prepared a spell to part the smoke. Once she was fully prepared for what might be inside the hole, she moved the smoke.

Poof

Twilight opened her eyes.

“AHH!”

In the crater stood a blank-flanked filly with a minty colored coat, and a mane of red and orange. She stood with her wings, very much like the wings of Luna and Celestia, outstretched at her sides. That was not the thing that surprised Twilight though. The thing that surprised her was the spiral shaped horn resting on the filly’s head.

“S-spike. Get a letter to the princess.”
