Prologue

Years Ago...

"As I was saying, there's a comet that encircles around the planet once a thousand years. With it's arrival, said comet brings about mysterious energy particles that, when viewed, reveal a vibrant shower of colors. Many experts have depicted this as the Nyx Spectacle. Something that is exclusive only to this comet. And a stupendous meteor shower one would not want to miss in their lifetime. In addition to it's brilliant light show. It also has been known to cause a few energy fluctuations from time to time."

Twilight turned back to her less than eager audience, a small group of students who had been invited to visit the Canterlot observatory. "Like many comets, this one follows an elongated path around the Sun. Which we all know is raised by our great Princess Celestia, whose idea it was to have this little...expedition. When the comet reaches its closest point to the Sun, we here at the observatory say that it has reached the Perihelion. In contrast, the most distant point from the Sun is called the aphelion."

A young stallion raised his hoof. "Miss Sparkle? There are rumors that pieces of the comet crash to the ground. Are we safe?"

"What an excellent inquiry," Twilight responded. "While there are no records of debris directly linked to this specific comet, there have been reports of many other types of debris falling."

Twilight directed the students toward a screen displaying various footage of startled ponies holding hoof-sized chunks of rocks with unusual patterns and colors. "All over Equestria, there have been instances where fragments would enter the atmosphere. Causing quite the surprise to local pony folk. While unremarkable in their makeup, these asteroids still provide many a wonderific tale."

Another hoof shot up, a mare this time. "Are these as big as they get?"

To be honest, Twilight was caught off guard by the question. Sure, she knew the answer. She had mentally prepared herself for anything the students could throw her way. But still, that didn't mean that she was capable of reading how they would react to hearing her answers. Much less how much they knew.

"Some have been theorized to greatly surpass Sweet Apple Acres' borders in size."

The students gossiped among themselves while some tapped excitedly on their phones.

"However!" Twilight coughed loudly. "There have been very little confirmed to be close to this size discovered in Equestria. The scale is used for a few that were found on the moon. This leads to the margin of happening to be less than 3 percent."

"Going on the off chance that one does occur. What would happen if something of that size does collide with the planet?"

Twilight frowned. She knew that they wanted answers. Real answers. What was worse was with all the muttering among the other scientists it wasn't long before the students discovered something was amiss.

There was no point in trying to control the situation now.

"You all know that the Observatory is holding an emergency meeting involving both of the princesses." She confirmed.

The students exchanged quiet glances and nodded.

Twilight sighed. "Guess it was bound to get out eventually." She sat down on the floor in front of the students. "Gather round. I'll answer whatever questions you have."
