Dusk’s darkness hung over Ponyville as an early morning drizzle dampened the streets, the droplets falling rhythmically with the sounds of hoof beats. In a monster-ridden town such as this one, it would be almost laughably understated to call the inhabitants desensitized to danger, yet a danger far greater than any timberwolf lurked in the shadowed streets on this night.
The hoof beats echoed from a lone pegasus mare with a light green coat that, if it were any deeper, would reflect the villainous envy driving her forward. The mare carried a small satchel, which was slung across her back. Shivering slightly, the cool night air forced her to press her wings firmly against her sides as she walked toward the outskirts of the small town. Once she was a short distance from the last house, the pegasus unfurled her wings and flew a short distance upward to a barely visible mass of clouds. She landed softly on the doorstep of a cloud home and proceeded to enter quietly through a window on the balcony.
The pegasus took careful, deliberate steps as she stalked up to the bed. She smiled maniacally as she loomed over the sleeping Rainbow Dash. Thoughts of claiming her revenge rushed through the pegasus’s mind, but she stubbornly refused to give into her instinct to strangle the rainbow-maned mare in her sleep.
“You’ll get yours soon enough,” she whispered softly.
The light-green pegasus opened the satchel and removed a small metal rod. She smiled evilly as she flew to the top of the cloud home and pushed the rod into the clouds making the roof. Despite craving to take more immediate action to punish Rainbow Dash, the mare cackled softly as she glided down to the ground.
“You had better be careful, Dashie,” the mare warned mockingly, speaking Rainbow’s nickname with malice. “This is only step one.”
