Maybe More Than Just Buddies

It was a bring sunny start to the day and all the fillies in the camp were already starting to go outside and fly about. However one filly in particular was the odd one out and was still deep in dreamland in bed, that filly was Rainbow Dash. She was arguably the best flyer in the camp, even if she tended to show off to the other ponies which forced her into crashing into clouds, giving her the nickname "Rainbow Crash". Even if she was the best flyer, it didn't make her any less prone to mistakes, if anything it made her most likely to be in an accident. She only really had one friend in camp, and that pony or rather griffon was Gilda. They both were always pulling pranks, flying together or just simply talking whilst looking into the blue skies. They got along quite nicely and they are always stood out from the crowd.

Their friendship only truly began however when Gilda found herself being teased by the same bullies which gave Rainbow Dash that scarring nickname. She was completely surrounded by the three bigger ponies, grinning and throwing insults her way.

"Your a griffon, go back to where you belong!" They would say

It was at that moment when a shadow flew over them and a blue blur came and defended the defenceless griffon. Rainbow Dash was there to defend Gilda, thus sparking a good friendship between the pony and griffon. Even today when camp was nearing to a finish they were getting teased, but they couldn't care less. They were there for eachother's company and that's all that mattered.

Gilda was currently outside, enjoying the fresh breeze of this morning's weather. She was stretching out her wings, trying to get ready for the hard day of flying ahead of her. She wasn't the most popular filly in camp but she always was close to one pony in particular, Rainbow Dash. She always made her feel safe, Gilda could never stand up for herself being the only griffon in camp and also being the smallest filly in camp in terms of size and not age. She was most definitely older than some ponies in camp, bullies probably just picked on her just to feel great about bullying an older kid. Gilda was now just sitting around, waiting for Rainbow Dash to show up so they can both finally go eat. Much to Gilda displacement she looked down onto the cloud and noticed three large shadows infront of her. She perked her head back up and faced the three ponies, this was definitely not a good sight.

"Look what we have here, looks like Gilda is here all on her own" They mocked "It's a shame that Rainbow Crash isn't here to help you with what were about to do with you!"

They all took a step forward as Gilda took a step back, now on the very edge of the cloud which only they were standing on. There was no other way to run and flying was out of the question since they were all much faster flyers than her, she was 100% surrounded and terrified. She closed her eyes, just hoping that they would magically disappear and that she could be back with Rainbow Dash, having a good time. She heard them get closer and closer until

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?"

Gilda reopened her eyes and looked up, no other than Rainbow Dash appeared above her, ready to defend her friend.

"Oh common! How come you're always here when were messing with her?"

Rainbow landed on the same cloud in front of Gilda, shielding her from the three ponies. She glared back at them, making one of them laugh.

"Or maybe shes just here to protect her griffon love partner?"

They all start laughing, both Rainbow's and Gilda's faces going red as they faced eachother. They never truly had any romantic feeling for eachother, or so they thought. Rainbow quickly snapped back that them

"Whats the big idea? Picking on Gilda like that?!"

Rainbow was furious, even more than she ever got before when dealing with these guys.

"Oh what wrong? Did we talk down your marefriend too much?"

They start laughing again. Gilda was just sitting here, looking down at the cloud beneath her. She didn't exactly know how to feel. Embarrassed? Ashamed? Depressed? Her mind was totally blank, just wishing that this would be over soon.

"I'm not her marefriend! And you should not be picking on her!" Rainbow exclaimed, obviously fed up about the comments

She was going more and more impatient. She couldn't even think properly anymore. Thoughts rushed through her head, ideas on how to get out of here and forget this ever happened.

"Just admit it, you like her don't you?"

"Maybe I do-"

She cut herself off, covering her mouth with her hooves. Everyone's eyes widened as what was just said by the cyan mare. Gilda instantly looked back up at Rainbow who still had her eyes shut closed, obviously hating herself on what she just said. Gilda's mind then suddenly started thinking about Rainbow Dash. Did she actually have feelings for her? Did she have feelings for Rainbow Dash? How would this effect their friendship? The bullies were also still silent, not even smirking but just wide eyed for what she just said. Silence went on and on for what felt like hours. Rainbow then suddenly unfolded her wings and took off, not a single word said, Gilda had to think fast. Whilst the bullies were looking up at where Rainbow Dash went, when they looked back at Gilda she was nowhere to be found. Gilda simply flew away whilst they were not looking but she did know where she needs to go next.

Gilda flew as far away as possible from where she last was, hoping that she wouldn't get caught again by those three ponies. Her mind was racing through emotions but one thing was clear, she had to find Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash was sitting behind the main building of the camp. In that building you could sign up, eat and it lead to the rooms where the ponies slept whilst being at the camp. She was sitting by the wall, face buried in her two hooves. Not forgiving herself for what she said. She wondered to herself if she actually did like Gilda that way, did she have a crush on Gilda and just not noticed? She wasn't crying or anything, just deep in thought on what would she say if Gilda found her.

She was interrupted as she noticed a griffon like shadow in front of her. She gulped and looked up, only to see Gilda looking at her.

"Look, I know you didn't mean to say what you said back there" Gilda broke the silence "I just want you to know that I think we should talk this out right now"

Rainbow gulped again and her cheeks began to flush a bright red.

"Well... I didn't mean to say that but now I don't know if it's true or not, if I like you or not" Rainbow responded

Gilda's eyes widened, did Rainbow actually have feelings for her?

"I just want to know, do you like me that me that way?" Rainbow suddenly responded, standing back up

Gilda backed away, curiosity must have gotten into Rainbow's mind. She looked at the ground and nodded shyly, her blush building up on her face. Much to her surprise, Rainbow then smirked and placed a hoof on her shoulder. She shivered at the touch but didn't back away from it, she instead enjoyed the touch of Rainbow against her as she got closer.

"To be honest I like you a bunch too and I don't care what those jerk were spewing about us, I would honestly love being with you" Rainbow spoke up, pulling Gilda into a hugging embrace

Gilda hugged back, way tighter than Rainbow did. She was now smiling, loving that fact the Rainbow loved her in that way too.

For the rest of the day they were flying together, eating together and in general acting like nothing ever happened but something defiantly did happen for Rainbow Dash and Gilda today and it was about to get even better. It was now night time and they were ready to get into the showers to clean up and then go to bed in their own rooms. They were the last ones to go since they got in trouble for a prank today but it was so worth it. Once they finally got the permission to go into the showers, everypony else was already asleep and leaving both Gilda and Rainbow Dash to clean themselves up before calling it a night.
