Prologue
I gasp awake from a terrible nightmare. By now you'd think I'd be used to them. I've always had these terrible nightmares, yet I never get less afraid. Am I really that big of a baby? I shake my head. Now is not the time to think of silly things like this. I get out of my bed and I slowly walk to my bathroom, my hooves making a light noise on the crystal floor. I turn on the tap and I splash some water on my face. I look at my reflection, my dark mane falling into my face, my light pink coat is so plain... The only thing that isn't boring about me is my eyes. They're so pretty. A nice blue-green mix, basically a light turquoise. Just as I was about to head back to bed, the alarm in the castle goes off. I immediately hear hooves on the floors as guards run through the castle. I run to my window, looking outside. Being unable to see anything due to the darkness of the night, I step out onto my balcony. I squint my eyes and I notice something on the ground, it looks shiny. I hop off my balcony, opening my small wings. I glide down to the object and I quickly realize it's my father's helmet. My eyes open wide and I look around quickly, he is no where to be seen. All is see is his helmet and... Blood.
Chapter One: Is He Dead?!
I stand, frozen in place. A light breeze tickling my face, gently blowing my mane and tail around. I stare at his helmet, my father no where to be seen. Guards are searching the empire, the castle, everywhere looking for him. I hear the clicking of hooves behind me and out of the corner of my eye I see my mother, Princess Cadence approaching.
"What is going on here?" She asks, looking at the guards. Nopony says anything. She frowns and looks at all of the guards before noticing my father's helmet. Her eyes open wide and she lets out a screech.
"Shining Armour?! What happened to him?! Where is he?!" One guard shakes his head, indicating that they don't know. My mother's eyes fill with tears and she lifts the helmet with her magic. She rests her forehead against it as a tear falls from her eye, hitting the ground. A couple guards decide to escort my mother back to her room. One trots over to me.
"Princess, you should join your mother." He says. I look at him and then out to the horizon. I swallow nervously and I shake my head. I want to find him. I know deep down inside he's not dead. There's no way he can be dead.
"No." I say. The guard frowns and he urges me to follow my mother. I let out a growl and I open my wings, taking off into the sky. The guard calls out to me but I ignore him. I look around, looking for any sign that would let me know where my father is. I don't find anything and I start to become very frustrated.
"Sugar Rush..." I hear my mother call my name gently. I turn and I look down at her. "Let's go home..." She continues. Not wanting to argue with my mom, I slowly fly back down to the ground. She gently pushes my mane out of face and she forces a gentle smile. The guards continue escorting her back into our home and I follow slowly. I look over my shoulder one last time before the doors close.
"Dad.. Please... Come back.."
