So About Those Impressions...
"Um...Rainbow, darling? Could I ask you a question?"
At the mention of her name, Rainbow's ears perked up, and she, along with all of her friends, turned to Rarity. The fashionista was still scouring through the newspaper that contained her review, and while she still seemed glad at the positive press thus far, there did seem to be something in her expression that was just the tiniest bit off. Seeing this, Rainbow, naturally, started to get a little concerned.
"Er...yeah, Rarity?"
Looking up from the paper, Rarity raised an eyebrow before continuing.
"While I am certainly happy that your problems were dealt with before the big opening, there is one teeny-tiny thing in this paper that I'd like to enquire about."
Gulping, Rainbow looked around in a nervous manner, before, at last, speaking up.
"...Yeah?"
Rarity nodded.
"This...impression you did of me..."
Immediately, all eyes were on Rainbow, and the mare herself became as white as a sheet. She started sweating and, before long, took a step forward, speaking in a frantic manner.
"Rarity! I can explain!"
But Rarity, for her part, did not in any way seem upset or offended. Rather, she looked to her friend with what could only be described as amusement.
"Oh, there's no need for that, Rainbow. I was merely wondering if you would be so kind as to demonstrate your little routine."
Upon hearing that, Rainbow's expression became a mixture of both shock and fear, as she looked to all of her friends, Rarity included, before starting to speak again, only this time in a more fractured way.
"Well...I...er...why?"
Rarity shrugged her shoulders.
"Oh, I was simply curious. One does wonder how other ponies see her, and I'd be interested to see how my friends would portray me."
But Rainbow was still clearly quite hesitant.
"Yeah...I'm not sure if I can do that with an audience."
Applejack turned to her, chuckling.
"Y'all love everything else with an audience, but not this?"
Rainbow gave her a scornful look, but, sadly, realised that she had a point. So, after looking once more to Rarity, and realising that she probably wasn't going to relent, Rainbow let out a long sigh. She paused for a moment, all while her friends watched eagerly, and in the end, the pegasus took a deep breath, clearing her throat a little before finally giving her requested impression.
"Dah-lings! I'm absolutely doomed! Doomed! DOOMED!!!"
The words were spoken with all of the over-dramatic inflections that Rarity had been known for, and as such, Rainbow awaited some harsh words from her unicorn friend. But, to her surprise, she found that this was not the case. Indeed, Rarity, if anything, seemed outright amused by her friend's antics, and giggled alongside every other mare there. Gaining a confused expression, Rainbow hesitantly spoke up.
"You...you're not mad?"
Rarity shook her head.
"Of course not, darling! That was absolutely spot on! I realise that, without a sofa to faint on, your impression was rather limited in its accuracy, but still..."
In spite of herself, Rainbow couldn't help but laugh at that remark, raising a hoof and scratching the back of her head before replying.
"Yeah...I guess I was kinda great at it."
Here, Pinkie decided to add her voice to things.
"If you think that was good, you should see her do Twilight!"
The moment she'd spoken that, Twilight, naturally, looked to her with confusion. As for Rainbow, she gave Pinkie the same angry glance she'd given Applejack not so long ago. And Pinkie, for her part, simply looked over her shoulder before looking back to Rainbow and shrugging her shoulders.
"...What?"
But, it was too late, as Twilight then poked her cyan friend, causing her to turn to her just as she was speaking.
"You...you've done an impression of me too?"
Once more looking nervous, Rainbow cleared her throat again before talking in a defensive manner as before.
"Well...yeah...kinda. It was back when me and Pinkie were going to Gryffonstone, and I was remembering all that stuff you were telling us before we left. I got frustrated and...well...I may have done a bad impression of you."
Looking to her with an inquisitive look, Twilight spoke softly.
"...May we see it?"
Just like before, Rainbow looked to all of the other mares, all of whom seemed just as eager to hear this as Twilight was. Slapping her forehead with frustration, Rainbow let out a grunt of annoyance.
"Ugh! Fine!"
As before, she got herself in the right mind-set, but this time, she actually did a little bit more. She raised both hooves to her mane and, with just a few movement, styled it into an almost exact copy of Twilight's own mane-style. While taken aback by this, Twilight kept her focus, listening carefully as Rainbow finally did as she'd been asked.
"Always carry plenty of bits! The Gryffons are sure to help you as long as you share the wealth!"
Pinkie, as one would expect, giggled loudly at that, as she no doubt did the first time this happened. As for the rest of the mares, they too seemed greatly tickled by this. And, like before, Rainbow was surprised to find that Twilight was amongst them.
"Yep! That's me alright!"
Rainbow seemed rather surprised by this.
"You...you're okay with this?"
Twilight nodded.
"Sure. I mean, it's all in good fun, right?"
Before Rainbow had a chance to answer, Rarity spoke up again.
"Indeed. Friends do impressions of each other all the time. Why, I remember one rather embarrassing moment when Applejack and I both pretended to be like the other."
A grimace crossed her face.
"What a sorry day that was."
Applejack, while smiling at that memory, nevertheless nodded in agreement. Rainbow, still staring at her comrades, breathed a sigh of relief over this. But, it was short-lived, as a look of realisation crossed her face, followed shortly by one of guilt.
"Well...in that case...I, er...may have done some other impressions too...of all of you, actually."
That caused all of them to look to her with curiosity, prompting her to continue.
"It was when I got accepted into the Wonderbolts for real. I was trying everything I could to get a different nickname for myself and...well...I kinda pretended to be all of you guys to do it."
But, as was the norm at this point, they all looked to her with smiles upon their faces, with Twilight speaking up with genuine interest.
"Really? Show us!"
Looking around, Rainbow saw that none of her friends were in any way upset over this, and this, for the first time today, caused her to feel all the more relaxed about the whole thing. So now, realising that she no longer had any real reason to worry over the matter, she took on a more confident stance, before turning her attention to Pinkie.
"Okay, well the first one I did was you, Pinkie, and it went like this..."
